UO 10.28

Let's hear your unpopular opinions!

Re: UO 10.28

  • - candy corn is delicious 😅
    - In-n-Out is overrated
    - Beyonce is too
    - I actually really like Little Caesars $5 pizza

  • peanut butter is good, chocolate is good, they should not go together.
  • @morgantu I totally agree! 100%
  • My UO: Schools should stop putting a blanket ban on entire food groups from school lunches just in case someone has an allergy. We eat plant based in my house; so its all nuts, seeds and legumes. Yet everything is banned from my kids school  except white bread, meat and cheese, therefore all seeds, all nuts and some legumes have been banned. I get notes from the teacher when I send something that I make from scratch because it has no ingredient list. So far I have been in trouble for sending: poppyseed bread, hummus, cashew cheese, Lara bars,  and the list goes on and on. The teachers hate me and apparently I have had to actually change my kids diet to lunchables so he doesn't starve.
PS, if someone in my kids class has a true allergy to 1 or 2 things, I get it. But there is no way a human can be deathly allergic to this many things.....
  • @realhousewife519 That is insane!!!! At DD1's old school they provided snacks and lunches, so we haven't had to navigate packing a lunch yet since she has been remote the last 2 years...but I am NOT looking forward to that at all...
  • @realhousewife519 I have SO much to say about this, but I completely agree. Plans need to be made for specific children, not a blanket plan. Your child hastheir own dietary needs, which now can't be met. And what teacher has time to read the labels of each students foods? We can't just go about eliminating all allergens when there is not a student with an allergy.
  • @kgg2241 my current favorite afternoon snack is a small bowl of candy corn and salted peanuts. Yummmmmmmmmmmmmy.
  • @realhousewife519 I was severely allergic to peanuts growing up.
It wasn't a thing to ban food in schools. When it started happening 5+ years after I graduated, It always angered me that people expect others to accommodate them to such a severe degree.

Now, as a mom of an allergy kid, I get it more. Haha. I'm far more interested in protecting my child than I ever was about protecting myself 😅.
That being said, we don't expect others to accommodate us. We just don't go anywhere, because it's our responsibility to keep him safe.
Family gatherings, we find out what food will be around. If it puts his life in danger, we just don't attend. He can't go to daycare, because he would die. We don't take him to other people's houses to play. We have never been to an indoor play place (plus... COVID plays a huge part in things). We haven't been to a restaurant since before he was born.

That being said, once he is school aged, and can communicate well enough that "something is wrong" and he's had an exposure, we can join normal activities.

As a kid, it was my responsibility to remove myself from a dangerous situation. That's how we plan to teach our son too.

Though, at least his allergies aren't aromatic like peanuts are. My reactions to airborne peanuts suck haha.
  • @morgantu you monster. Chocolate and PB should ALWAYS go together.

@kgg2241 I was legit bummed when the Little Caesar's in out town closed down :( $5 for a decent pizza? Just take my money! I LOVED the pretzel crust pizza they did a few years ago.
