I’m kind of glad to not be having a baby shower this time. Not that I wouldn’t want to celebrate this baby with friends, or like some financial help with things. But I’m just so particular sometimes that I like not having the burden of liking something that someone else chose for the baby. Am I terrible? Haha we ended up with so many diapers, and baby stuff that I just did not want to use with ds. I’m glad I won’t have to deal with the guilt of it again. 😅
@modoodles I had to google what they even was! I’ve always worn dhs old flannels, but it seems so casual to me that I wouldn’t wear it out anywhere. I’m like you though. I try to be trendy, but I’m bad at it. 😂
@photographerwife I do not want anybody buying me baby clothes this time around. I have a very specific style, can't stand 90% of the stuff at Carter's and the like, and honestly have dreamed of dressing my own baby girl for years. People roll their eyes but it's most likely my last baby and I just want to dress her exactly how I want!
@modoodles I just bought a shacket on Amazon I always buy into the trends just to realize how ridiculous they look on a mid 30-s preggo so we shall see how this turns out.
@kaf1788 I don’t blame you! I do like some of the Carter’s stuff, but I hate the cheesy ones. My mom bought me one that said. Moms hot, dads lucky. Like what?? 💩
@photographerwife OMG that's awful My SIL got Samson a bib that said "I'm with the MILF" and it went riiiight into the trash. And yea they definitely have some cute stuff among all the weird sayings I just don't trust my in-laws to find it
@photographerwife@kaf1788 I love shirt puns for the boys lol. I don’t buy any like your examples, but count me in for a shirt with an avocado playing a guitar with the saying “Guac and Roll” lol.
Despite wanting a baby shower, I really don't want anyone getting me anything off registry. We live in a small space and literally do not have room for anything I have not already accounted for. There are maybe two people I trust to go off registry, but so many people I know have very different ideas of what babies need. @kaf1788@photographerwife I also have a specific style for clothes, I don't want anything super graphic or too "cutesy". My mom bought the baby a sparkly red lady bug outfit that she had already asked me about and I said we didn't need clothes at that size but she bought it anyway. 😒 This all probably sounds very ungrateful, we're just so specific and purposeful in how we live, hence the registry.
@chgilmore that’s another reason too! Our old house was small too and our son stayed in our room, so everything for him was either in our room or in our living room. And my bio mom bought this big ass stuffed owl that was like 42 inches tall or something?! I immediately gave it away. It was so annoying! I hope your family sticks to your registry! 😅 I was thankful for our family showing up, but so grateful for the ones who considered our lifestyle too. It definitely brought a certain amount of guilt for those who didn’t.
@photographerwife you're describing one of my worst nightmares lol. I'm hoping to assuage guilt by sticking to this thought process/argument: I asked for what I needed, they either didn't listen or thought they knew better than I what I needed, they chose to spend money on this, I evaluated whether I truly needed it and determined it did not have a place in our home.
@photographerwife@chgilmore I’m guilty of going off the registry and buying stuff, but I don’t buy a ton of clothes or big stuff. I buy stuff that I didn’t know I’d need as a first time mom, or stuff that was unexpectedly (for me) helpful. Things like a snot sucker, haaka (if I know she’s going to BF), etc. I also always enclose a gift receipt, so it can be returned or exchanged. Is this bad? I usually get good feedback on them, but like I said, I avoid large items. If I buy something bigger, it comes directly off the registry.
@makingbacon I think that is fine! I have totally bought a Hakka or frida items too for new moms because I didn’t know about them either! I think it just gets particularly bad when it’s tons of clothes, or big items. Or when they don’t consider sizing or seasons! It really is a first world problem though. 😬
@chgilmore you’ll have to let us know how your shower goes!
@makingbacon@photographerwife yeah some small stuff can be okay I think, I just get worried if lots of people think "well it's just a small thing..." lol or not thinking to check the registry. For example, ie the Hakka, I don't like how it isn't wearable so I have the Elvie curve on my registry. These are definitely very bougie problems 😅 will definitely let y'all know how it goes, it's the first weekend in December though haha
@chgilmore the Hakka is totally wearable! You have to flex back the top, put the small hole against your breast and then bring the large ring back to your breast once you’ve created suction. Is the Elvie cuve the manual pump too? Because I was looking at reviews of that and heard the suction wasn’t as good as the Hakka. Now the Hakka isn’t going to be wearable under a regular bra. But flip that bad boy through a nursing bra and it’s a life saver! Lol just needed to praise how good that thing is real quick!
@chgilmore I also wore mine the way @photographerwife said. It was a lifesaver and helped my supply so much with DS2. I did try to use it to help engorgement. Do not do that. It does not work, and it hurts really bad. Cabbage leaves were friendlier lol. I stunk really bad for a couple days, but I didn’t care.
@photographerwife yeah the curve is the manual one, similar to the Hakka though apparently you don't need to keep manually pumping once the suction is on. Good to know the Hakka could be wearable, though I am imagining wearing it inside of a bra and not like a standard wearable pump (if that makes sense?). @makingbacon oof I'm sorry! Good to know, I will not try that; my plan was to use it to catch letdown when baby feeds from the other side. Also good to know about cabbage leaves. I'll warn MH lol
@chgilmore I think be able to wear the elvie in a bra would be more discreet for sure. But I’m pretty sure they work the exact same way. You don’t have to manually pump with the Hakka either. Once the let down starts the suction of it is what pumps. It’s was more gentle than I real pump. I just don’t want to to not try it out. I have read that the elvie leaks too. But I might try one too, for discreetness lol you will find what works for you!
@chgilmore the elvie will be super nice for catching your let down with guests around. I always hated feeling like a cow with the other pumps. 😂 and I only recommend a bra because either way you may lose suction at some point and that is a sad time. 😂
