How did you meet your significant other? What were your first couple dates like?

Oooh this is a good one!

MH and I met on Tinder. I was 18, he was 23; we agreed it would be "casual" since we didn't want anything serious (and I was reeling after a few bad break ups and rejections anyway). Our first date, he biked over to my dorm with a pizza taped (with black electrical tape!) to his handlebars, because I was a picky eater and didn't want to figure out how to get to a restaurant from campus, plus what if he was a creep and then I was away from everyone, etc. I was mortified because he was early and I hadn't had a chance to change/touch up make up after getting out of my coffeeshop job and classes all day. We watched old/obscure movies (Harold and Maude, Four Rooms) while we ate. He "spent the night"

and texted me the next morning after he left.

The next date I think he just came over and did homework with me in the library and then he tried to put my hair up in a ponytail. It was bad, and I said something like "heaven help you if you ever have a daughter" and he goes "ha! heaven help me if I ever have any kids at all" and we proceeded to have a very serious conversation where he said he didn't want kids or to get married. later that day he asked me if I wanted to be exclusive.

...7 years later here we are xD he is very excited and bought the baby a bilingual board book (spanish/english)

Met at a salsa club through mutual friends, but we almost didn't meet. Talked maybe 5 min and I just knew, but it took hanging out a 2nd time for him to get it together. Then talked for 6mos before becoming official..and now 8yrs later and our first on the way.

@alexxajams Salsa club sounds fun! They had a club when I was in undergrad, but it never fit with my schedule.

AFM: We met through a mutual friend. Our first date was playing pool at a bar and just hanging out. We then dated for 6.5 years before getting married. Of those 6.5 years, the first 5 years were long distance. We both thought it would fizzle out at the beginning because we only dated for 2-ish months before I moved 9 hours away. Turns out that we’re stubborn lol.

My husband and I are coming up on 14 years married on 07/07. Together 19 years in August.

We met while working at a bagel shop when I was 16 & he was 17. Friends at work first, Started dating 8 months later. First date was Mongolian BBQ and a movie (Signs).

My husband and I met on match. I’m from the east coast and didn’t know anyone but family here so going out always included my brothers which definitely does not make one approachable😂 After DS1 was born and I was ready to “get back out there” I tried a few of the dating apps and was very let down so decided to try a paid service. We met at the waterfront in Poulsbo, a really cute Norwegian village, for our first date and eventually were married there at the gazebo where we met the first time. Also randomly ran into a family friend who worked with my dad while on our first date so that was awkward😂. We dated for a while before he met my son (8mo at the time) who promptly fed him a half chewed teething wafer that my husband somehow managed to choke down and they’ve been thick as thieves ever since.

@chgilmore Love the pizza story! In college I'd get the Little Ceaser's $5 pizza, half with Canadian bacon half with pineapple and then flip the pizza in half so that I had a full on Hawaiian pizza (or sandwich!) for $5. HA. @makingbacon Long distance is rough! I did it once for 6 months. Too hard for me!

We met on Bumble (dating app). It was actually quite lucky because we had a distance restriction set on our profiles. He happened to be hiking near my town and we both saw each other's profiles in time to match! We traveled that canyon/hiking area a lot to see each other. We even got our engagements (and family pics done in that canyon).

We met at work and were instantly attracted/flirty but didn't have our first date until a year and a half later until after I got out of a relationship. I figured he would just be fun, but he was serious and here we are, married, one baby together and another on the way. 🤷‍♀️

Our first date was to the Mall of America in 2017, it is about a 3 hour drive from the area we live in, so it was going to be either a really fun date or a really bad one!

We met at work. He was a branch manager and I was at head office in HR. I wasn’t interested at first in general & because he was an employee but he was persistent so we secretly dated 6 months, I found a new job. Engaged after 1.5 years dating, married 1.5 years later!!

We met in Seattle working on a project, when neither of us lived there. Through a comedy of errors, I thought he was gay — but still told my sister he’d be the perfect guy for me if he weren’t gay, and broke up with the guy I was seeing because by comparison, it was clear I needed to move on. Anyway, he was a) not gay and b) very much interested in me. He made up a fake layover to visit in my city, and then several months later a friend & I stayed with him while we were at a conference in his city. We finally caught on to our mutual interest, and dated long distance and got engaged a year later. On paper it’s so absurd, but it really worked. Together 15 years now.

We met while both working for a cruise line in Hawaii. Working on a ship, we always had coworkers around, so it's hard to decide what our first date was. We had already been together for 2 weeks when we went to the zoo and then out to lunch (and later that evening to dinner) at the Old Spaghetti Factory. It's weird to consider that our first date though, because it was at some point that day that we decided to quite our jobs and move in together. Thankfully 22 year old me didn't think things through very well since moving in with someone I barely knew was probably not the smartest decision, but it all worked out. We spent a few more days in Hawaii, booked plane tickets to LA (because it was the cheapest flight) and then took a train up to San Francisco where we lived for about a year.13 years, 3 states, and 5 moves later, here we are expecting our first child.

@fuscok88 I also had an awkward encounter during our first date. Ran into the other guy I had been majorly crushing on, but he was a few years older and never showed any interest. Ran into him at the movies, he invited me and my date to sit with him,m. We did, and I sat between my 2 crushes for the whole movie.

Funny story, after that, the guy that I ended up never dating, did start calling me to hang out after that night, but I had already started dating MH and wanted to give that a proper go, so I turned him down a few times until he eventually stopped asking. I picked the right one obviously😉

I met my husband when I was a junior (17) in high school, and he was 20. We were both into the music scene, and both went to a show to see a friends band play. He asked me and my friend for headache medicine, and then we saw each other for a few months after that at different shows and casually talked. I didn’t even know his name for months, I just jokingly called him Jesus because he had long hair. A few days before my junior prom he added me on Facebook and got my number and started expressing his interests. To my surprise, he was actually from the same town! So we talked and went on our first date right at the end of my junior year. We moved in together after I graduated and We dated until we got engaged 6 months later and married in 2013 at 19 and 22. 😅
but my husband is a wonderful man, and I’m so blessed to have met him early and shared life with him. We’ve been together 10 years now and married 8 in October. So I’d say it worked out. We have one son together a spunky 3.5 year old and are looking forward to growing our family.

We started dating Sophomore year of high school. That night he asked me out (over AIM) he also told me he loved me

.. ahh the good old high school days! We broke up when we first went away to college, but got back together rather quickly and have been together since. This November will be 18 years together. We've been together for more than half our lives, which is so crazy to think about. He waited FOREVER to propose, (13 years) but this coming October will be 4 years married. Our first date was to see Elf in theaters.

I love hearing everyones stories, so cute!

I met my now husband when I was living in California going through a divorce with my exhusband. I went to a friends house because a bunch of us girls were going to go see Magic Mike. I met him at the friends house for about 5 seconds and he told his friend that "He'd like to get to know that". Anyways, my best friend in Cali was married to his best friend in Cali and my future husband and his friend (so my friends husband) just got back from being deployed 9 months. My friend instantly told MH to not even think about it and to leave me alone. We never dated (a lot of super drunk navy nights). The four of us just all hung out from Friday after work until Monday mornings to go to work every weekend. Since I was going through a divorce I was just looking for fun but he then started to call me his gf after awhile and I would always correct him telling him he was not my bf. Until one day I forgot to correct him and apparently that made it official. This September we will have known each other for 12 years, we dont have an official date anniversary so we go off that day we met for 5 minutes lol We also never got engaged, after 3 or 4 years we were planning a trip to the Virgin Islands and just decided we would elope while there.

So cute! A lot of you met so young, I love it!

AFM, we both went to the same college and graduated the same year but never met. The following year we were both invited to a Kentucky Derby party by mutual friends. It was also Cinco de Mayo so I was hammered by 12 PM from margaritas and he was in a similar state that evening from mint juleps. We spoke maybe two words to each other and I was pretty sure he hated me. I also had a thing for his friend.

We all went our separate ways and somehow connected on Facebook which turned into texting. He lived a state over so for about a year we communicated solely over the phone. On his way home to see his parents he stopped in my town and we went on three dates and they were AWFUL! It was so awkward to talk to someone in person that I had been talking to so much virtually. We both (I asked him years later) swore each other off to everyone but later that year said Kentucky Derby host couple got married and they had a whiskey bar and well, I guess the alcohol helped us get over the awkwardness. The rest is history! That couple says they get to be doubly responsible for both our marriage and any and all children we may have.

Everyone else's stories are so wholesome. We need to find a better story before we have to start explaining to children

I love everyone's stories!!

My husband and I met when I was 16 and he was 18. We both worked at the local fast food place but went to different high schools. I didn't like him AT ALL and there was a period of time where he was my assistant manager.

We both left that job around the same time and went our separate ways. Because of social media we were able to stay in contact. When I was 23 I lived in Europe and he still lived in our hometown. My mom was getting remarried so I was planning a trip home. I don't really remember why but we had been messaging each other and made plans to go to a bar, as friends, while I was home. We got drunk and the rest is history 😆. I think he's always been into me but won't admit it!

We had a long distance relationship for a while until I moved back home. We immediately moved in together and got married after four years. We've been married now for six years and have an almost two year old daughter!

I love reading how everyone met! So many good stories out there.

AFM: I was in college going out to the bar for a friends birthday party. I had just gotten out of a long on/off relationship and was looking to just enjoy being single for awhile. We ran into each other on the dance floor of a bar and got to talking. He tagged along with us after bar close for pizza, since his friends were leaving I told him I could give him a ride to his car the next morning since I lived in walking distance from downtown. Next morning (way earlier than I thought he said) I dropped him off and he almost forgot to get my number...had to run back to the car before I pulled away. About a week or two later he took me out for ice cream and the rest is history. Almost 9 years together, married for 3.

Everyone's stories are fun and interesting! Mine doesn't feel that way but here it goes!

We met through mutual friends and we were 25/26 at the time. A particular couple did have the idea we would be good together and I had helped them get together (which I regret later lol) they wanted to "return the favor." My husband is not the type to be set up so they told him, without me knowing, that I was asking to be set up with him. Despite the little deception on their part, it really started and progressed very naturally, and we did find out about the white lie and found it funny. We were together for almost 4 years and did break up for a year, and then got back together and married a year later. We have been married for 9 years

It's fun to read how everyone met and see how similar most are.

A mutual friend had a party before our large group of friends headed out to a Oktoberfest party. DH had entirely too much to drink and followed me around the entire night trying to make a good impression, which did not work! We ended up hanging out at our friends house sober and realized how much we actually had in common. I played hard to get for about a week while my other girlfriends tried to date DH. When I realized I actually liked him, we made it official. We've been married 12 years and are expecting our first baby now!
