I cannot and will not eat raw mushrooms. Give me alllll the cooked mushrooms but hard pass on raw.

@kiki047 in what instances would someone eat raw mushrooms? In a salad? The texture of raw mushrooms doesn't sound appealing to me either.

@inthewoods23 yeah, in a salad (gag), and I've seen some psychos put them in veggie platters.

I will not eat raw or cooked mushrooms. The texture of either is so off-putting to me! But I typically don't mind the flavor they add, so if they're hidden it does not bother me.

@pajamstagrams that's how I used to be. The flavor has grown on me though so I enjoy stuffed mushrooms now! I have not gone beyond white and baby bella mushrooms though 😆

ok my Starbucks conversation with @bows22 in WTO gave me a UO -

All restaurants/cafes etc should list all or the majority of their options in their menus, both drive thru and at the counter. Secret menu items are dumb. For example, at Chipotle I would always add the pico de gallo as my salsa as that's all I thought they had outside the corn salsa and spicy salsa. Only when I started ordering from their app did I know they had a tomatillo salsa which is my FAVORITE salsa. Why is this not listed on the menu boards??? I don't even think it's something they have on the "assembly line"/counter.

If there's so much customization you can do with an order, why not make that more known everywhere? It disappoints me.

@kiki047 totally agree. Raw mushrooms are yuck. I used to love cooked ones though. I started getting super sick randomly a few years ago. It turned out it was mushrooms! My body decided to be a jerk and started reacting to them.

@inthewoods23 YES! I also get super annoyed when people think they are cool for knowing the secret menu. Yeah, well so does my 12 year nephew. Still feel cool?

@inthewoods23 I hate when they “take something off” the menu to slim it down but it’s not really gone. But then you feel weird ordering it since it’s not on the menu. Totally on board with your UO.

Side note on The Knot they used to (maybe still do) have IA threads - irrational annoyances - that I feel like is what our UO threads really are. Like not necessarily unpopular opinions but things that annoy us more than they annoy most people hah

@bows22 Noodles & Co did that with what was called a Pasta Fresca. It's sort of on their menu still, but it's only shown as their cauliflower noodle fresca or something like that so I feel like I'd have to order it as "cauliflower noodle fresca but with the gluten friendly pipette noodle". I probably could still call it the pasta fresca with GF noodles. There's a lot of substitutions and crap to get the dish they used to have just with the right noodle. I don't know why they don't just give all the dishes a generic name and note that you can request whatever noodle you want. *shrug*

I do have lots of IAs lol. Current one being that the website keeps acting like I'm not logged in. Multiple times I'd click on this thread which said I had unread comments but when it would open there would be no text field to write my own comment. So stupid.

@inthewoods23 ohhhhh you just reminded me of an IA... The term "gluten friendly" when they mean "gluten free friendly" or some other CYA term since cross contamination is a thing and no one wants to guarantee it's safe for celiacs. Like no, I don't want my food to be friendly to gluten, in fact, gluten is quite unfriendly to my digestive system & body. 🤬😂 I get what the mean, but gluten friendly is literally the opposite of what it is 🤦‍♀️

@pajamstagrams yeah I hate the term too because it makes me think they're saying the product has less gluten even though that makes absolutely no sense. I get that they use that term to mean the product is made without gluten and has or could come in contact with other allergens but it's such a goofy term.

I'm glad for now my rule is to just not eat it. I don't have to avoid anything that's labeled "made in a factory that processes wheat, etc." nor do I need to ask a restaurant's kitchen to wipe their counters and grill when they make my food. In the future though - like way future after getting KU and I incorporate gluten back into my diet I would like to get tested for celiac just to see. Sucks that there's no test that indicates sensitivities. I'm assuming I'm at least sensitive since things have changed digestively and I lost bloat and weight I didn't know I had after I went GF.

@inthewoods23 a lot of my family is sensitive to gluten, but test negative for celiac (which also runs in my family). I firmly believe there is some kind of middle ground sensitivity, which I believe can exist with any food (as I also have a couple more sensitivities in addition to celiac)

@inthewoods23 you actually can get tested for gluten sensitivity. Everlywell has an at home test you can do. Of course, sensitivity / allergy / celiac are all tested differently.

I’m currently back on gluten as I’m starting to work with a functional medicine doctor and I want them to test me for allergy/sensitivity as I’ve excluded celiac with an endoscopy/colonoscopy earlier this year.

Also, @pajamstagrams I use the term “gluten full“ to describe foods with gluten and I think it should be mainstream.

@acleverusername I've looked into those tests but from what I've read, what they test for is not actually an indicator for a sensitivity.
