COVID vaccine plans?

Re: COVID vaccine plans?

  • @penny624 - I am the odd man out here but I will not be requiring vaccinations. My brothers and father, 3 of the most important people in our family, as well as a close aunt, will not be getting the vaccine. If they don’t get to see the baby no one does! They see my 2 year old daughter now, quite freely, and I also know what a small and frankly fractional risk that covid can be for children. My husband and I are both fully vaccinated, and I think we are the ones that would really need that protection. I don’t feel it’s up to me to police what others do with their bodies, and I’m not going to spite myself that support from our family because I want to control what they do.

Do I wish they would get it? Yes.... but for their own health, not for me or my kids.

My mom is fully vaccinated after having covid which is a huge relief to me! From my experience with DD, I didn’t force anyone to get the flu shot or TDAP either. It’s a tricky situation and a big decision for all. Whatever you decide will be the right thing for you and your fam!  💕💕

  • DH and I got our first doses yesterday (Pfizer). At bedtime last night it was a little tender at the injection site, and this morning it's a bit more tender. I imagine having my 5yo pushing into it a bunch at their bedtime and then me sleeping on it all night didn't help that much lol

  • This is a really good discussion!

I hadn't really thought of it yet. My brother's family is not being vaccinated, so I think partly I'll see how it goes? I may treat them like the new masking laws in the US and make sure they're healthy and handwashed and wearing masks. But they've also been so not cautious up until now that I'm pretty sure at least half of them have had it (only SIL has tested positive, but the kids have been in a no mask private school).

Like everything else these days, I'm so sure things will change between now and September, so I'm kind of just hold off worrying about it too much.
  • we won't be "checking" vaccination status...but my entire family and DH's entire family are all already vaccinated, so I'm not worried about people who will be really spend a lot of time with the baby. I'm much more concerned with people having the whooping cough vaccine than COVID vaccine since whooping cough/RSV carries a high risk for newborns and our sweet babies will be less than 6 months through whooping cough season.
