This is a place for those of us who have already started TTC, but have started infertility testing and/or treatments. You can express your thoughts, feelings, and frustrations on infertility. TTC can be a long journey naturally, then add in the difficulties associated with infertility, and it becomes a whole new ball game. The road to infertility can be lonely, frustrating, and complicated, so let's make this a place where we can vent, ask questions, and support one another. Feel free to resurrect this thread at any point in the week if you have something to say. Treat this as an ongoing conversation.

</div><div>Status (WTO/TWW/TTA): Probably just O'd yesterday, but it's only a testing cycle so... Almost TWW ish for WFAF so we can do the actual FET. Gulp!
</div><div>What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?): Testing. Plus PNVs, RRL tea, l-arginine, myo-inositol... I stopped the pom juice for now. Need to start a little light exercise in the morning to increase bloodflow....
</div><div>How are things going?: Okay! Got a positive OPK and a temp spike, so now basically just waiting for AF. Also waiting on my Prior Authorization to go through for the Ovidrel, so I sent out a note to bug the pharmacy team and my nurse real quick. 😉. [ETA Just got emailed that they did the Pre-auth, so just need to call CVS back and schedule my shipment! 🎉]
My WFH equipment arrived, but I'm taking a vacation week anyway for Holy Week, so I don't have to log in and start training till the following Monday.
</div><div>Any questions?:
</div>GTKY: One thing you’re glad you tried but would never do again? LOL well the first thing that comes to mind is IVF. 😬 It's something I still struggle with a bit though, just the acceptance that it's really over for us after this. And hearing DH acknowledge that too, that that's going to be a hard day, meant a lot.
**IF backstory / MFI**
<div class="Spoiler">After his retrieval, we had two MESA samples frozen and two TESE samples. The MESA samples were used first for our first two egg retrievals because they would have more of the preferrable, further developed sperm cells. At some point I guess it was last year, we would have had to pay OOP to continue to store his remaining two samples (but embryo storage was covered.) So since we knew we weren't planning on another ivf, we let them thaw his samples and that was that. :/ Tough day. It's just a struggle sometimes knowing that even if I wanted to change my mind, I wouldn't be able to do it without him going through another retrieval of his own, so... Probably a safe bet that's not going to happen.</div><p>
</p>
I don't know if getting my day 3 update was better in the long run or not. I had 15 fertilize and went from "12 are looking great/on track and the other 3 are hanging in there" for my day 3 update to "we were able to biopsy and freeze 3 embryos" on day 5. That was a really hard pill to swallow. I was very lucky to get another 3 embryos on day 6.

@businesswife ahhh I can’t believe your next cycle is it!!
@lisa3379 I could never to a helicopter! Nope nope nope nope
@BusinessWife enjoy the Holy Week celebrations! I’m Orthodox so our Easter isn’t until 1st weekend of May but I always really enjoy Holy Week services. Enjoy setting up your home office! Post photos if you’re comfortable once it’s all done. Also... I can only imagine how letting go of those sperm samples must have felt... 🐙
@Lisa3379 sorry that you’re still stuck in the waiting game! Have you communicated with your clinic at all? Any luck with OPKs to figure out where in your cycle you are?
@kiwi2628 good luck on your SSG tomorrow!!! As for cenotaph dive, was it scuba?
Still having a mental struggle as to where we’d do IVF if it gets to that.🤷♀️

@Lisa3379 OMG I can't believe you are still waiting. Come on AF!
@acleverusername. Oh man, I can imagine this feels like a major 2WW. Sending you good distraction vibes!
Thanks all for the input re: embryology updates. Basically the way my clinic works is that you call in at certain hours on day 1, 3, 5 etc to get a report on what is happening. I am normally a "more is more" person when it comes to information, but this is a case in which the day 3 report is basically meaningless, except as a signal about what will happen on day 5. I have learned slowly over time that this type of information is generally pretty anxiety-provoking for me and often not actually very helpful in my life. They actually told me to call in today (day 2) to check on whether the other 2 mature eggs had fertilized, but again-- I'm just looking for embryos, so I think it's best just to wait for day 5/6 and get all of the news at once.

@kiwi2628. GL tomorrow! Hopefully it is completely uneventful. ❤️
@acleverusername oh! That's so cool you are Orthodox! Which one? We were both raised NO (Novus Ordo - the "new" Mass said in whichever coloquial language i.e. English, in our case), Catholic, but we have since rediscovered the TLM (Traditional Latin Mass). It's been amazing. It's crazy that there are elements in the Church who continue to want to suppress it, though. We have friends in our parish who were raised legit underground, or else attending Ukrainian Orthodox because it was more ...orthodox lol / traditional. But most Catholics of my generation just didn't even have access to the old Mass. We love it! Just don't tell DHS 😬 lol / laugh-cry emojjii<div>
@bumblebee0210 Hoping and praying for your little starts and a good report on day 5/6! 🙏🙏🙏 That's so great that your doctor was thinking of you over the holiday.
</div>
@BusinessWife ha, I didn’t even know about TLM; that’s my “today I learned”. I attend church(es) that are part of the Orthodox Church of America denomination. I was baptized Russian Orthodox but didn’t attend church as a child; I went back on my own volition in my late 20’a and didn’t want o attend a service that wasn’t in the language “of the people.” So going to a Russian Orthodox Church was out of question since services are conducted in Slavonic, which is the equivalent of Old English. So I found myself a church that served a mixture of English and French (this was back in Canada) with a bit of Slavonic thrown in there. As a result, the church attracted many who didn’t want to belong to an ethnic Orthodox Church which is usually what happens.

@acleverusername The wondering & planning for next cycle sounds so familiar. Hang in there and try to channel those thoughts into positivity for this current cycle. (But I’m right there with you, so easier said than done.) Re: Progesterone or BCP, I think the BCP would be more reliable to stall things till YH’s test results are back. Progesterone will delay your start but maybe not as many days as you need it to.
GTKY: One thing you're glad you tried but would never do again? Like Bumblebee, I went on a crazy scary hike that I would never want to do again. Longer details in spoiler.
I just looked up this hike online and it turns out several people have died over the last few years on this 'adventure'. Never again.
Edited to fix TB's annoying spacing issues.
Oh that that hike sounds SCARY as balls! Totally something I would have tried though.

@BusinessWife TLM is beautiful! We have a Tridentine mass at a Western Orthodox Church about an hour from us - I enjoy going there occasionally. I believe it is the same liturgy as TLM. I don’t know of any Catholic TLM around here though.
Also, on YH-- eek! I would be livid. I feel like we go through *so much* research, supplements, acupuncture, nutrition (don't eat cold foods! don't eat meat! wait, don't eat carbs!), not to mention the visits, hormones, etc, and they have one job! Like, get it together!

I've been reading everyone's posts this week with great interest but don't have anything coherent to contribute right now. Maybe later!
Oct '21 somewhat improved AMH (.51) and significantly improved FSH (8.9). Maybe it's all the pills I swallow.
Dec -21, standard antagonist. 225menupur/225gonal-f/cetrotide/5000u trigger, AFC 5; 11 days of stims. retrieval yields 5, 4M, 2 reach day-6 blast (4AB & 4BB). 1 low-level mosaic (chr. 3 deletion), 1 complex abnormal.
Feb '22 FET (low-level mosaic): CP.
May '22 egg retrieval, lupron flare protocol. HGH priming for 1 month before stims; md lupron 20/20u daily; menopur 225, follistim 225, 10k trigger after 8 days of stims; AFC 10; 13 retrieved; 10 mature; 8 fertilized. All frozen at 2PN for later thaw, grow, and biopsy.
July '22 egg retrieval same protocol: 9 days of stims; AFC 8; 10 retrieved, 8 mature, 4 fertilized and frozen.
Sept '22 ER same protocol: AFC 10; 12 retrieved, 11 mature, 11 fertilized.
From the 3 retrievals, 7 survived to day 5-6 blastocyst, from which I have 2 normal embryos!
Jan 20, Fully medicated FET, baby aspirin, dexamethasone, acupuncture, and as much woo as I can stand (which isn't very much). BFN.
July 23, Natural FET + baby aspirin. BFN.
I had to skip the IUI this time around since my husband was diagnosed with COVID (thankfully he is better). I’m hoping that I can go for the next round even with this strange cycle.

@optimistgardener regarding your "so many questions, but for IVF clinic", we've got quite the informed audience here so Try Us! Speaking for myself, I'd love to help answer any questions you might have about IVF. But also, yay for deciding that IVF is the right next step for you! Hopefully MH and I will get there at some point. Btw, your "youthful adventures" sound downright scary!
@Lisa3379 Hooray for your period!!! Let's get this show on the road! Enjoy the long drive (I personally would; I find driving therapeutic. Thought maybe not 16 hours of it in a 36hr period.)

@optimistgardener. OMG I totally forgot about crazy travel things. I never did anything as insane/dangerous as you but I did a lot of seriously low-budget travel (3-week cross-country road trip mostly sleeping in a dodge stratus and cooking on the side of the road, 6 weeks in Southeast Asia during the hottest part of the year not being willing to pay the extra $2 a night for a/c, having a rat fall onto my bed while I was sleeping in a hostel in Vietnam). Mostly just like things I would not put up with as a grown-*ss adult, but I'm glad I got to see so many interesting places.
@laura-kay Glad you guys seemed to mostly dodge the COVID bullet.
AFM: I got cleared from the clinic to start cycle 2! My lovely doctor submitted a plan for me even though she was away for passover. They aren't really changing anything-- I did respond to stims fairly well, and actually fairly evenly apart from the one monster lead, so maybe they want to see if that's a fluke or not. Also we don't know yet how many embryos we got from the cycle, and it genuinely could be like a grand success (3 healthy blasts) or an epic failure (no embryos even made it to day 3).
Speaking of which--I'm going to call the lab today (it's day 5) to find out. I debated waiting til tomorrow, because then we would know for sure how many blasts we had, but my FIL is coming tomorrow evening to stay the weekend, and if we don't have any blasts, I want to have some time to be sad before I have to face him. I do think being ready to start cycle 2 as soon as I get my period is helping me think more long-term and not be so focused on this one cycle.

BFN.

However, it sounds like you might be wanting to stay with your current clinic. I also believe that you get a decent amount of follicles to grow each cycle, in which case, they'll probably have you do the standard (antagonist) protocol cycle. The med doses will depend on your starting AMH and FSH levels, your AFC; adjustments will be made based on bloodwork results throughout your stim cycle. The back-to-back retrieval cycles is generally a good idea if you have DOR; I don't think you do. It's possible your clinic will allow you to do back-to-back cycles, but I don't think it would make a big difference in your case. In fact, I would say that giving your ovaries a rest might be better if you have that option.
Then, there's the medication. You should definitely submit an application for EMD Serono's Compassionate Care program (Google it and it'll be the first search result). It may qualify you for discounts of 25-75%, depending on household income. If you don't qualify for discount, you may qualify for rebates. You should also SHOP AROUND! You'd be surprised the difference in cost between various pharmacies, and there are a lot of specialty/fertility pharmacies. I can hook you up with some lists of pharmacies if you're further interested.
I think this is enough info to get you started. Happy to answer any targeted question you might have as a result of my diatribe.
