Im just gonna b*tch about a current annoying government issue in my life just to get it off my chest. It’s seriously a first-world problem so no sympathy needed.😉
I have to travel a lot for medical appointments. We have strict rules in place here where you either have to have a negative Covid test when you land in my state, or when traveling between counties within the state you must have a valid reason to show at the Covid check-in tables when you get off the plane at the airport. I’m glad my state is taking these precautions, but it definitely has its flaws. My recent experience in spoiler because it’s a long rant.

I’ve been doing this medical travel for months, always showing my doctor’s notes at the Covid check-in tables in the airport and receiving a medical exemption. The silly thing is that this medical exemption lets you just walk out of the airport and go about your business—even though you may have been exposed to Covid while traveling—and it lets you off the hook from the 14-day mandatory quarantine. So, trying to be responsible, I used to stay home for a few days after travel and then go get a Covid test just to be sure it was safe for me to be out and about in my community. Rinse and repeat for all my medical travel.

This weekend I flew to California for medical; when I landed back in my state less than 48 hours later, they refused to accept the doctor’s note and told me I had to quarantine at home for 14 days. The supervisor told me to go online to the Dept. Of Health and complete the medical exemption request for mainland travel, including my doctor’s letter. Once I got home I did this, and it was immediately denied. I emailed back asking why, and the system just sent me a link back to the page to fill out the medical exemption form. I emailed again saying I was told to do a medical exemption, that I had uploaded my doctor’s letter as proof, and could I please get an explanation as to why it was being denied. Repeat this process x 3. Finally, someone emails back that they don’t handle county-to-county travel within the state, and that I have to file a medical exemption request with my county. I am NOT requesting a waiver for county-to-county travel, it’s for out-of-state travel. Aaaargghhh!!! Today the saga shall continue... At least I’m quarantined and have all the time in the world to deal with this.🙄

@keikilove ugh how frustrating. I do appreciate that there are places that have these rules in place because I think they're on the right track but I hate that it's such a blanket policy with so little consideration for special cases like yours. Canada is frustrating right now because they're making a big to-do about finally restricting international travel and requiring mandatory negative tests prior to take-off and being tested again upon landing - a year too late, IMO - where travel has only really been shown to be a factor in <2% of cases. Meanwhile everything else is closed and it's just a giant party at Costco in aisle 2 with 400 people at a time. I'd so much rather it be all or nothing.
