Had my beta this morning and I'll go back on Tuesday for another beta. My RE likes to do an u/s at 6 weeks to confirm the heart beat before I graduate to the OB but I tried to make that 6 week u/s appointment today and he is all booked with IVF appointments those weeks so I might end up going to my OB for a 6 week scan, if they will do it. I should probably call the OB at some point.

I found out I was pregnant yesterday, and called the doctor right away. At first, I wasn't going in until middle of February! They called back an hour later saying she could see me this Wednesday 1.13.21. So I go in tomorrow to get checked. I am super nervous. I am worried I may have an ectopic pregnancy. I have been on the mini pill and have never missed a day. I feel that could be the reason she wanted me to come in so much sooner. Either way, I'll bring the concern to her attention and perhaps she will check to make sure it's not ectopic. Although this was an unplanned pregnancy, I of course pray it goes through.
I will definitely be back on this thread tomorrow to let everyone know how it goes!
Why is it like pulling teeth to get a 6 week u/s??? My RE wants one to confirm viability and also probably to confirm the number since there's a higher risk of multiples. However, he is busy with IVF at the time I would need it so his office sent a request to my OB to preform the u/s. I called this morning, they had the fax but didn't know how to put in orders from an outside dr. So she called me back after figuring that out and put the order in and transferred me to scheduling. I start off by explaining everything to the scheduler and the first thing she says is "we don't do ultrasounds until after 8 weeks." Like did you not hear my whole explanation that my RE requested it?? But I finally got it scheduled I just don't get why they have to make it so complicated. Insurance I'm sure.

@krash_ getting an US before 8 weeks has been a fucking nightmare for me too. I had to commute back to see my old doc as the new local ones are ridiculous about it, despite describing repeatedly the time sensitive need. Infuriating. Like they don’t have brains.
@krash_ I am so sorry you are going through that! That's super rough. I wonder if the pandemic has anything to do with it. It seems the OB offices (as well as other doctors offices) have changed a lot of how they do things since the pandemic. That was my doctors original reasoning for not scheduling my sono until mid to late February. I haven't done the math on it, but I think I would be about 8 weeks or so, when they normally would do it at 6 weeks if I remember correctly. Pandemic or not though, if there are medical reasons, or other doctors requesting it, they should do it when you need it done. _______________________________________________________
I had my appointment this morning, which was just a blood draw to check my beta. I let the tech know of my concern of this maybe being ectopic. (Due to getting pregnant while on the mini pill) My doctor came out to talk to me, and she explained that it's a bit too early to tell with a sono, because depending on how far along I am, they may not be able to tell where the sac is yet. But the blood draw will help determine what could be happening. She made it a stat, so I will find out today what my current beta is, and I believe she will check it again on Friday, and if it isn't rising, it could point to ectopic at that time. She said to call if I start having severe pain, especially to one side.
She is really sweet at addressing my concerns and putting a stat on the blood work. I was bummed to leave the appointment still not knowing how things are going down there. But I very well could be worrying over nothing. I am trying to stay calm and take it a day at a time.
@Whitmore1027 I went through a similar thing questioning if ectopic. I got blood drawn twice around 4 weeks and had to wait till after 5w for ultrasound to confirm gestational sac in the right place. I’m sorry you’re in limbo. Hopefully she’ll schedule something next week to confirm.
@agea Thank you for sharing that! It makes me feel better that I am not the only one that has questioned this. I don't want to start out feeling negative about the pregnancy, and wasn't sure if I was being silly for thinking it. I just have so many emotions happening right now, I have no idea what to think!
Just went for my blood draw today, I'm not sure how long it will take for the results. I have my first ultrasound scheduled for Monday. COVID has already made this pregnancy weird knowing my husband can't come to my ultrasounds and wasn't able to come with me when I had my blood taken. I'm pretty terrified of needles so this was the first time I have had it done alone. Now I guess I am just playing the waiting game.
@deziraywatt They really aren't letting him go to any u/s? Our office is allowing him to come to my dating/viability one on Monday and then the 20 week.
@deziraywatt Omg, that's crazy your husband can't go with you to the sono! My office is strictly no SO's or kids at all, unless it's a sono visit. I am so sorry! Maybe you can facetime during the visit so he can still be with you!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I got the call with my beta, it's positive (not surprising of course lol) and I am to go back on Friday at 9:45am to get another draw to see if levels rise. She said that means that it's still too early to do a sono to check for the sac placement.
I know very little about hcg beta levels. I never got that done for my first 2 pregnancies. It is 35 today. Does that seem low? Based on my last period, I am 4w3d along. I assume the most important thing is that it doubles on Friday right? Still on this waiting game! I think I need to pick up meditating to maybe help with this slight anxiety I have going on over here. lol
@krash_ that's super annoying they were giving you such a hard time with an outside order. Like yeah it's not their standard practice, but your doctor ordered it so just do it.
@Whitmore1027 fx on a doubling beta. The first number is within the range for 4 weeks, but they are more concerned if it's doubing correctly to be a viable pregnancy. Betas should double in 48-72 hours
@cheers28 my clinic isn't allowing visitors with appointments either so unless they lift restrictions DH won't be going to any of our sonos either.
DH was never able to come to my US preCOVID due to the fact we don’t have a sitter and I don’t like to take the kids with me for those. So he usually keeps them at home while I go alone.
I may go to one of those boutique ultrasound places if restrictions aren't lifted as then we can bring DD too. She's been asking for a sibling for 2 years and is super excited.
> @Centralmnmom said: > I may go to one of those boutique ultrasound places if restrictions aren't lifted as then we can bring DD too. She's been asking for a sibling for 2 years and is super excited.
It's always a normal feeling, the excitement is at the highest level. Congratulations...
@Centralmnmom Thank you!! That's great to know! I spent some time yesterday going through my BMB for when I was pregnant with my 2nd, and I saw that they actually did take my hcg level then too. At 4w1d it was 404. (I had completely forgotten that they did!) So it did make me nervous that at 4w3d this time, it's only 35. But I completely understand that each pregnancy can be different!
got my betas back from yesterday. I was 412 on Monday and yesterday was 987! I’m so relieved. I was told I was at risk for ectopic because of scarring potential from an sti in college (stupid cheating boyfriend), but if numbers doubled than it was an indicator everything is in the right place. I never had that worry with my first, it wasn’t something they mentioned and I was scheduled for an u/s right away with him because I was on bc and couldn’t even figure out timing.
u/s scheduled for 2/11. Husband can’t come, which I assumed. He’s really bummed about it, but they said he may be able to go to the anatomy scan.
Edit: updated u/s date, they called me back a little while ago with a cancellation a few days earlier
I had an appointment scheduled today that was originally just a pap and physical, but I was able to chat with the OB for a while and my mind was definitely put to ease about a few big questions. Scheduled a 6 week phone consult (basically just getting all the medical history) and then going in on 2/16 for the dating sonagram. She has my due date estimated at 9/19 but I will be have a RCS so this baby will be coming by the 12th at the latest!
@chewie5990 is it your second? I'm just curious because I have no idea when my doctor will schedule my RCS or how far in advance is normal. With DD (child 2) I wouldn't have qualified for FMLA until the day after her due date so we schedule the CS then (and thankfully she stayed put 🤣), but in a pre-TTGP visit my doc said she would want to do the CS much earlier and I have no idea how early is "normal" or expected.
@poodledooleeooo this is my third. I have never experienced labor so I had an induction at 41W3D with my first and after 36 hours with absolute no progress (zero dilation) I had a c-section. I tried for a VBAC with my second and my OB let me for 41W1D - never had a single contraction and was still completely closed, so another c section. I think the "norm" is to delivery at 39 weeks for a planned c-section. My OB wants to be extra careful since I delivered less than 8 months ago and so I'm slightly higher risk for a uterine rupture if I start to have any contractions, so she said 39weeks at the absolute latest.
I had my 2nd beta done today. It dropped from the 35 it was on Wednesday, to 25 today. My doctor said I will miscarry any day now. I have had zero cramps and zero bleeding so far. Now it's a waiting game I suppose. I posted in the Loss thread a bit more about my feelings regarding this. I am heartbroken for sure.
My first appointment is with my RE for an ultrasound on 1/28. I will be over 7 weeks. I am surprised they didn't schedule it for sooner, but maybe they weren't concerned because of my betas(3,362 this past Monday)? DH can't come with me because of Covid. After my scan I go home and we log on two hours later for a virtual appointment. I haven't called the OB yet.
