This is probably more of a FFC but my kid has been in meltdown mode all weekend and we're all at our breaking points so before daycare this morning she had a sucker (her prize for going on the potty 5 times), cheetos (a bribe to get her to agree to go to school), a juice box (a bribe to get her dressed), and goldfish crackers (her car snack) because none of these have been battles that I've been willing to fight today.
@gusgus14 sorry to hear that! We have all (or will) have those mornings. I tell every new mom... never be against bribery lol. Sometimes it’s the only way to save your sanity. Avoiding battles on a Monday morning of the new year was the right call!
So many randoms today 1) How is it 2021?! Where is time going? 2) One of my pregnancy symptoms is always that I like things really salty. DH makes fun of me for it. Last night my stomach was bothering me, so I pulled out a frozen chicken noodle soup. I was asking DH if he accidentally bought low sodium because it tasted so bland. He started reading off the box and making fun of me because it has something like 40% of DV of sodium. I told him, here try it. He had two spoonfuls and said, maybe they forgot to add the salt to this batch. Vindicated! 3) I need to start writing these down. They pop into my head when I can't get onto the bump, and then they're gone by the time I get here. 4) I feel the need to warn all the STM, you will be shocked at the number of times you have to tell your children "don't eat your brother/sister" 5) Usually DH sleeps closer to the bathroom, but I always make him switch with me when I get really pregnant, (which is earlier each time.) We switched Thursday night, DS#1 keeps coming in in the morning, and being upset I'm on the wrong side. He still insists on calling it Abba's bed, even when I tell him I will be sleeping there for the next several months. (Abba is Hebrew for father, it's what they call DH). 6) My nanny has a little girl (I think around 11) who adores my boys, (she often comes with when school's out) and likes to give my boys her hand me down toys. Well last week we didn't get hand me downs we got a gift she received from relatives that she didn't like. A giant stuffed cow. I kid you not, this thing is bigger than my 1 year old. I really need to start weeding the boys toys, they have way too many.
Happy New Year! @gusgus14 sounds like the breakfast of champions. sometimes i feel like i should get rewarded to agree to go to work, get dressed and drive to work hopefully she gets more agreeable over the next few weeks to make it easier for you
@mrosek91 You probably won't because you're having more kids, lol. Growing my third boy and we have 2 dogs, so my family will definitely be called wrongs names from now until eternity. hahaha
@texas_t tell me about it, I was called by my sister name more often than my own growing up. And whenever the doctor's office asks me for a date of birth, I seriously have to stop and think who I'm answering for, and it may take a minute or two for me to respond, even for my own!
@mrosek91@texas_t I'm an only child and my mom usually names all of her sisters, 2 friends, the cat and maybe a man's name before she gets my name right 😅
After texting with my closest friends on our thread over the weekend (one has a 4 month old, the other one has an almost 2 yr. old and is 10 wks along with her second), I realized I registered for and received the wrong stroller. LOL. I registered for the Uppababy Cruz when I really did mean to list the Vista, since we're hoping to have a second kid. The friend who's about to have her second has the Cruz and is really regretting not getting the Vista since she can't add a second seat.
So, I'll be exchanging the stroller and the accessories we've received (and the bottle sterilizer! LOL) to get the Vista. I feel kind of nuts going through all the trouble of returning stuff since we have no guarantees of having a second baby, but if anything I'll appreciate the bigger storage compartment underneath the Vista for groceries trips and diaper bags.
@mrosek91 There's a lot of advice for FTMs, but STMs have a whole other set of issues. Please give more advice for STMs. There are lots of fourth timers here.
I remember my little brother giving my little sister a hair cut, chopped off one of her pigtails. I think they were 2 and 4 at the time.
@ec1212 definitely exchange and get the stroller you want! Otherwise you’ll be regretting it, trust me! And most people who have one baby, have pretty good odds of being able to have another. Don’t fret!
@mrosek91 that makes me feel so much better, I always take a second for the date of birth at the doctors office. There are so many in my brain!
@gusgus14 sounds good to me! You gotta do what you gotta do. I’d say she definitely gets a reward for all those potty successes! Like @brynn_mamaof4 said, don’t be scared to use bribery. I use bribery all the time. That is how teachers do it these days too!
@asf0613@yellingbanana thanks for the emotional support. I looked at a bunch of message boards comparing the two models (and looked at our stroller thread here too) trying to convince myself to just keep what we have and sell it later, and it was mostly moms wishing they'd gotten the larger one from the start. I saw a lot of city moms also commenting that they loved the Vista's included bassinet for summer babies because the seat/infant carseat made baby sweaty, so that will be an added bonus.
@ec1212 The bassinet is what I'm most looking forward too. However, I live in a hot climate and my DS was in the carseat a lot and I don't remember it being a problem. But that was just the car, the mall and sometimes church. Whenever he fell asleep in the car we just transferred the car seat to the stroller.
But for walks I always used the stroller seat. I would bring the footrest all the way to the bar and the visor all the way down and when he was newborn he was completely cover like a little cocoon.
I don't think I regret getting the CRUZ first, however the VISTA we just got is earlier than 2015 which means there is a lot of buying and selling I want to do to get the right combination. Which is almost impossible because we are in total lockdown, again.
And rant, out here no one cares about carseats so when I ask about expiry date on Facebook marketplace they either don't have one or have no idea where to find one. I showed someone the picture they needed to send me and they did, but they sent the picture just missing the part with the date.😅 I tried to tell them that and they sent me every OTHER piece of information on the seat.
@ec1212 im happy that the bassinet comes with the vista because i decided to register for the stand as well and now i have a travel bassinet basically!
@gusgus14 that sounds like our morning. DS (2) has been melting down and super clingy the past few days and I think it's because of the lack of routine plus the increase in stimulation and sugar the past two weeks. We were honestly all ready to get back to our normal routine today. I really thrive with a routine and I'm finding DS to be the same way. DH could care less and hates his job so he has a hard time understanding. But DS was SO much more pleasant this evening and bed time was even easier! You gotta do what you gotta do to get through these days sometimes!
The app is still being so weird for me and I'm apparently too lazy to log in on my browser. I normally would do it on desktop but I was off work today.
I had my anatomy scan today, everything looked great! Baby already weighs 1lb 5oz! The tech slipped up a few times and I swear she said her like twice but maybe I'm crazy lol. Still team green but I think it's a girl😂
Does anyone watch NFL and have teams heading into the playoffs? We're huge Seahawks fans and I'm so excited I don't work this weekend so I can watch them play the Rams🤞🏼
Ooooooooh @nbcarlson !!!! That’s so exciting!!! I’ve had a bunch of ultrasounds and whenever we start talking they always stop and say ‘you know your baby’s gender?’. Because they try not to spoil it if we are waiting. We are team pink, but one time they kept saying ‘her’ and then asked. I might have fake acted shocked and said ‘no we don’t know!’ I shouldn’t have, they just open-mouth stared at me until I said ‘just kidding! We know it’s a girl!’ The look of relief on their face was great. We had a good laugh. This is what happens with social isolation, I start joking around with everyone I come into contact with!
Also HUGE Seahawks fans over here! We went to the parade when they won the Super Bowl! I was born and raised in the Seattle area, and never in my life have I seen so many people in Seattle streets at the same time! It was crazy! DH gets super anxious while watching games though 😬!
@spartan4life yessss her routine has been so off and we're trying to get back on track but it's a struggle. Last night's bedtime routine went better than the weekend and this morning was mostly better until she dropped her yogurt (no clue why she was walking around with it instead of sitting to eat) and we had none left to replace it. I think by the end of the week we'll mostly be back on track but we're moving her out of her crib Thursday night when she turns 3 so that could throw a wrench into things. We'll see!
@nbcarlson Falcons fan here so we're done for the season! DH is from MA and is a Pats fan but he gave up on them pretty early on in the season. It's odd to not have anyone to cheer for in the playoffs though! Usually once the Falcons are out I'll support the Patriots but this year we're both out.
@gusgus14 fingers crossed things things get back on track soon!
Hubby and I are from the East Coast (New York and Philly) but lived in Pittsburgh for the last 13ish years (starting from the time we were 18 for college). So we are huge Steelers fans! Struggling with the weird game times and lack of professional sports teams out here in Oregon since we had so many to choose from back on the East Coast lol
It is pretty crazy how many teams there aren’t out here on the west coast. Especially the NW! But we just don’t have the population like the east coast. It kind of feels like the Seahawks have the largest land territory, especially when including Alaska. We are just all mountains and no people 😆
Off topic but it seems we have finally gotten to the end of the soaps/lotions we were gifted for baby #1 and they were all different brands. I think i narrowed down to honest company lavendar stuff or baby mantra ... anyone have preferences between these two?
I get my car back tomorrow🎉 I may or may not have, but definitely did, hit a bumper that was left in the road while I was driving at night. Totally messed up the tire well and wheel😬 I dropped it off the Wednesday before Christmas but of course it took forever because of the two holidays.
@nbcarlson Ugh, I was without my car forever before christmas and I hate the way it feels! I'm glad you're getting yours back! What an annoying scenario!
@Liz101015 those are my two favorites as well! My toddler and medium kid use Honest, especially because Costco carries it. But I’ve fallen in love with Baby Mantra for babies. With this being #4, we’ve tried a LOT of different natural baby soaps. Baby Mantra is just the best IMO. It cleans, moisturizes, and doesn’t irritate sensitive skin (my littles all have had some eczema).
Sitting at my OB’s office for my glucose test and I’m so bored! About 10 minutes away from my next blood draw and then have 2 more after that. I brought stuff for entertainment but I’m very meh about it and also feeling nauseous. Might go out to my car and take a nap after the next one and get a break from my mask.
@gusgus14 that wait is so annoying! I think a nap is a great idea. I was trying to come up with something entertaining to suggest, but honestly, nothing sounds as good as a nap.
My MIL is a teacher, and her school's midwinter break is 1/15-1/22. She said the school released guidelines on what their COVID procedures are and they said if you want to do anything "wild and crazy" do it the first weekend and be home by Sunday. So they're coming to us for the weekend!! I'm so excited. They only live 20 minutes away, so we've been seeing them outside with masks on, but it's not the same. They'll sleep over Friday night so I'll get to sleep in on Saturday, and maybe even get a nap in the afternoon. And it gives me a week to clean up, but to be honest, I'm not sure how much cleaning I'll really do. My MIL is one of the most laid back people I know. I really won the lottery with her.
@mrosek91 enjoy your time with your MIL! I’m right there with you, I feel so lucky at how well my MIL and I get along (especially when I think about my siblings in-laws). I was fortunate in that my MIL was able to visit us 2x this year, for a month at a time. Usually when people hear that, they look at me with this “I’m so sorry” look on their faces 😂 but I really enjoy her company!
Our HDTV (which is less than a year old) is acting weird and not really working today. We' ve never had a prob with it, or the older model of it I had before - the timing is a huge bummer since hubby is getting his remaining wisdom teeth out in about an hour and he'll want to do nothing but lay on the couch and watch it. Mercury retrograde kicking in early, I see!
@ec1212 I swear mercury retrograde is a thing. I pay attention to when it starts now because in the past any time anything electronic/technology related started acting crazy and I would check... we were always in mercury retrograde!! I keep it on my calendar now 😆
@mrosek91 that sounds great! I used to love having my in-laws over! But it’s been harder because they adopted 2 kids a few years ago, and I love them, but having 4 people stay with us is a lot more work than just two. Then my brothers in law always come over when they are here. We are already a family of 5, so cooking meals for 12 people is a lot of work. If it were just my parents in law, I’d love it!
@ec1212 oh nooooooo!!!! That’s no good. Does the tv need to update? Maybe just try unplugging and plugging back in? Good luck to your DH recovering from wisdom teeth removal 😬.
@yellingbanana he just got home and is so sad he can't play video games. I feel so bad. I have the TV set so I have to get notified and approve updates so I don't think it's that but I wish I knew how to fix it!
Calling it a day early at work since he just got home and my mental health is shot by the events of the past day anyway, gonna take a look at it again.
I reached out to Sony support via Live Chat and there was an option for them to remote into our TV and factory reset it!! So it’s fixed and hubby is happy. Woohoo. I feel like a superhero lol.
