  • @BuckeyeNut05, so sorry about your SO. That's been the hardest part of this pregnancy for me, not being able to share it with SO. Glad to hear everything else went good! And props for staying Team Green!
  • @aquamala, with DS1, I got this twinge of disappointment when I learned I was having a boy. My family was all girls. I had no idea what to do with a BOY!!! And, I hate blue and brown... Everything that year was blue and brown. But, as time went by, I started getting used to the idea of a boy and fell in love with him completely when I finally got to see him. And he is so sweet and mischievous and lovey dovey, I wonder how I ever felt anything other than happiness.

But, I did. And it's OK and it's normal and it didn't affect my relationship with my son at all. Allow yourself some time to process through it.
  • @aguamala we have both right now, and I won’t know what we’re having until the baby is here, but I really want another little boy just because I absolutely love how sweet and snuggly our 1 year old little boy is, and had a dream that it was a girl and I cried in the OR. I’m sure if we have a girl all of that will change, and we’ll be thrilled either way, but I don’t think you’re alone in feeling that way.
  • @BuckeyeNut05, I had one of each my last pregnancy and quickly realized I'd be a little sad either way, because I had one of each, then it was going to be 2:1. I was a teeny bit sad, but also so thrilled to have another boy. This time, I know I would have been happy either way, but I'm secretly thrilled to have another girl, and end there, at 2 and 2.
  • @aguamala [Nod] I feel badly but yes I also felt a little disappointed. It’s definitely gotten a little better this week the longer the news is with me. We found out it’s a girl last week, but I was seriously thinking it was another boy. We already have two boys too and I think I just love being a boy mom so much. I grew up in a house with five sisters, and I don’t think I just always wanted a little girl. I’m not really a “girlie girl” or anything either. I’m not against it, and I’ll wear pink or dresses and makeup sometimes. But I would say (and DH agrees) I’m not anywhere near high maintenance. I just didn’t realize how much I didn’t really long for a girl until I found out I was having one. I just felt so separated. As we have come up with a couple of names we like now I think it’s helping me feel more connected to her I think. I hope something settles in for you soon that lets you start to feel the joy!
  • @theletlers, I'm a complete tomboy. I wear make up and jewelry when the occasion requires it. And I learned wearing dresses in the summer kept me from cooking, but mostly, I'm a jeans an TShirt kinda gal. Because of this, I raised my daughter, and later my son, to enjoy what I did: Legos, camping, swimming, matchbox cars, etc. When DD1 wanted Barbie dolls, I just went with it. When DS1 wanted a play kitchen, we got him one.  Raising a girl and raising a boy are no different when you're less girly, and she'll be a stronger woman for it.
  • @aisukurimsarang oh we follow no gender norms here! DS1 has long hair, loves playing makeup and his wish list for Santa this year is a baby doll that has eyes that open and close and can eat pretend food, and a whole kid makeup set that he can do by himself! He also loves wearing tights and we just roll with it. The early years of boys and girls are so much the same, because they’re just kids. I mean obviously a baby girl is going to have some extra creases you gotta wipe sometimes, and baby boys can spray you straight in the face if you’re not watching, but who knows what life will bring!

OMG, so true. So true. Meconium poop on a girl. Ugh. The ease of cleaning on a boy is definitely offset by the pee fountain, lol.
  • @aguamala My anatomy scan is tomorrow and I know I'll be disappointed if it's not a girl.  We have one boy already and love him so much, but I've always wanted a girl and this is going to be our last.  I know I'll ultimately be fine if it's a boy.

    Pregnancy Ticker
  • @bblair24 you gotta be fast, lol!

Confession: I’m scared of baby boy diaper changes. 😂 Both girls obviously peed at one time or another while I was changing their diaper because every kid does that, but I’m not prepared to be sprayed in the face with pee!
we kept a pile of washcloths on the changing station for this purpose in the early days. They make little teepee things, but white / bleachable washcloths are cheaper.
  • @rexnie, I used a wipey. Plus, you do get a warning. Things "wakeup" so to speak, like a tank cannon preparing to fire.  :D

I honestly didn't know this (or don't remember). But it's very possible we were so quick to throw a cloth down that I never caught on to the mechanics, haha. It's only been a little over 2 years and it's so strange how some things seem so distant.
  • @bblair24 Honestly we were not that careful during diaper changes with my son and I've only gotten peed on once.  And one other time he peed all over the floor when we walked away for a second, but that can happen with a girl too.

  • @bblair24 We got really lucky and actually never got peed on with DS! I am a thousand percent sure that we won’t be that lucky this time around. Like others have said though, my strategy is to be as fast as possible. Have the other diaper laid out underneath the one your are changing, remove the dirty one and immediately close up the clean one. We covered with a wipe to buy ourselves more time with poopy diapers to do the exchange. But, ultimately, I think we just got lucky. If you don’t have some kind of bodily fluid on your clothes or furniture though, are you even a parent?! 🤪
  • @juliebird6 that is so so true 😂 DD1 didn’t spit up very often but DD2 was a happy spitter. My standard for “enough spit up to change my shirt” lowered drastically with her. I didn’t have enough shirts or time to do laundry to keep up with her. 🤣
  • @bblair24 DS1 was a projectile vomiter! I had the same standard of “is this enough to change my shirt” as you. Luckily it was summer at the beginning so if I wore tank tops i could easily clean my arms!
  • @riff323, do they have places that do elective ultrasounds? Here, there's a company called Stork Vision that does a Gender Reveal. We did a Groupon for 150 that gave us the reveal and a 3D in depth one at 26w. Maybe something similar?
  • @kadeephd glad everything looks good! It’s taken me time too but coming around to team pink!
  • I had my anatomy scan today; everything is looking good. Heart rate is good, and baby girl is in the 45th percentile for her size, weighing in at 11 ounces. The only thing was that she wasn't cooperating and so they couldn't get the heart views. They said that nothing looked concerning, but they couldn't see everything clear enough to give us the all clear. She wasn't interested in really moving into a better position, it seemed like she didn't want to be disturbed lol.

@kadeephd yay! glad to hear everything went well!

@riff323 oh no! I'm sorry babe wasn't cooperative, thats so frustrating!
  • @bbrahmbhatt yeah for a good anatomy scan (minus not being able to see the heart clearly enough).
@riff323 will they look again?  Sorry you have to spend some involuntary time on Team Green.
  • @aisukurimsarang unfortunately an elective ultrasound is out of the question for our budget.

@BuckeyeNut05 I can't foresee any reason I would have to have another ultrasound, so I don't think they'll look again. Unless something is wrong, which I don't want!
  • Anyone else have a Single Umbilical Artery??
  • @runsoncoffee yay for a healthy anatomy scan!! 4 boys sounds like a ton of fun!!

@Serenamarr I’m not dealing with that issue myself, but I really hope that your appointment in January goes well and they have positive news for you. Is there anything we can do to help in the meantime? If you want to vent about it please do, I’ll listen anytime!

@bblair24 hopefully he moves off that nerve soon, that sounds quite unpleasant!

I had a more in depth ultrasound and appointment with the MFM today. Overall I guess everything she said was what I expected to hear. They for
sure are diagnosing growth restriction as baby is only measuring in the 4th percentile (three weeks ago she was at 5.9th) So another growth check in three weeks and starting at 24 weeks they will begin doing Doppler screenings of the placenta and umbilical cord at least once a week and probably non stress tests too. Depending on how those are going and how much blood and oxygen baby girl is getting will determine when they induce, but it will be sometime between 32-37 weeks most likely. If she’s getting enough they will hold off until 37 weeks, but if not they will induce earlier. So basically it’s just going to go week by week now and see what happens when. But I think everything is okay for my OB to deliver at the hospital in our hometown as long as she feels okay with taking the lead. I see her next week but think she will be just fine with me staying with her throughout.
  • @kadeephd I hear you. We are having a girl and I already have a son- I have always wanted a girl but I have to admit a part of me was sad to not give my son a brother, since we are probably done after this one..
  • Have been crazy busy the last week or two so haven't been on much, but trying to catch up now!

Had an appointment earlier this week - was pretty uneventful. I met the last doctor in the practice, so I've now officially met all of them and really liked them all, so that's good! She listened to baby and said it was a healthy heartbeat and baby kicked her! haha. Baby has been very active lately - feeling lots of powerful kicks!

We also had a zoom session with a doula this week and felt really good about her, so think we will hire her. Glad that hospitals around here are allowing doulas again (there was a period of time where they were not allowed because of covid)!
  • It's always amazing to me what PGAL Brain can do to your blood pressure. Before I began feeling regular movement, ahead of an appt where you fear the big bad Ultrasound machine, it was 135+/75.

Im feeling regular movement now, and so fearing the quiet Doppler isn't really an issue... 116/68. This happened in my last pregnancy, too. Once I began feeling regular movement by my 20w appt, my blood pressure stabilized and never got high again until I delivered.

Fingers crossed it stays this way for 14 more weeks... But I'll settle for 10w. (I'll be induced around 39w, but want to make it to AT LEAST 35w)
  • 24 week ultrasound. Norm for high risk patients to get one at 18 weeks and 24 weeks. Luckily it went well so no longer until high risk Dr care. Said baby was a little big, but I'll believe it when I see baby. With both previous pregnancies they've said this and I've ended up with smallish newborns. Oh, and I actually got a 3D image of baby's face that doesn't look freaky.
  • I forgot to post this earlier... My 22 week OB appointment went well. It looks like my weight is good, and baby girl's heart rate is good. When she measured my fundal height she goes "Oh, WOW this fibroid is LARGE." Um, yeah, hence my reflux lol. I have to do the glucose test again, which I'm not really looking forward to, but oh well.
  • @bbrahmbhatt my doctor said the same thing when he measured. I don’t even remember getting measured last time, but I know I look way bigger already this time. Hope your next glucose test goes well!
  • @bbrahmbhatt, I'm measuring a week ahead this time.
