I honestly don’t know if I’ll go for a vbac or not. I’ve been doing so much reading, watching and listening about vbac. My concerns are about having a failed induction, diabetes, and my weight. They already think I’ll be induced at 38 weeks. My last pregnancy I delivered at almost 36 weeks. My c section was because I was breech and she came early because of low amniotic fluid. Because if this I will be thankful if I even get to 38 weeks. My biggest fear with a vbac is having to have a c section after labor or an induction. Or an emergency c section. I have a lot to talk to my dr about and a list of questions for my next visit. I’m trying to prepare myself for either option.

@mkc3888 I'm reading a book "Birth Without Fear" (recommended by someone here in the Hypnobirthing thread, I think) and it walks through a lot of common scenarios with each type of birth and how to prepare for an outcome that might not necessarily be your first preference. Might be valuable with what you're thinking through.
@mkc3888 this is why I went with a repeat c-section. I don't think there is a right answer. I labored naturally for 18 hours and then had to have a c-section. I ended up having to stay in the hospital for 5 days and was so out of it I hardly remember the first few days. With my repeat I only had to stay 2 days and felt so much better than the first time around.
@nbcarlson I feel like I’ll probably end up with a repeat c section. Unless I go into labor before 38 weeks or my bishop score is high before an induction. I don’t think it will be, but who knows. I don’t plan on having more kids after this, so I might do a repeat c section. It depends on how things go.

@mkc3888 all of those fears are why I went with repeat c-section. After getting over ptsd from our first failed induction, I just didn’t want another giant, scary, close situation. But I still hate getting c-sections. It sucks.
@nbcarlson seriously, I could permanently traumatize some ftms with my stomach and fold over 😑 it scares me. Even when I lose weight, it’s pretty scary looking.
@texas_t I wish I could say each one gets easier, but instead I am more worried with each one.
@yellingbanana@texas_t@mkc3888 Hearing all your experiences I feel more convinced to strive for a vbac. I really want want more kids and each surgery is one more risk. But I don't think they'll let me unless I come in dilated, definitely not going to let me get induced. 😐
So, hopefully I'll get an US in 3rd trimester to confirm the baby isn't in breech and then try all the strategies for natural induction at 38 weeks. (Just physical things, not drinking all the weird stuff) I think they'll make me schedule a C-section before 40 weeks. So that's why I think I'll have a May baby, even though I'm due in June.
@yellingbanana I had a really bad experience during my last c-section, which has led me to my current doctor. We have a plan, but I'm still horrified. I'm 100% going to ask for happy juice.
UGGGGH my OB's office finally called and said since my glucose was on the higher side (it was under the normal cut off but another joy of multiples, I guess) I have to do the 3 hour test. Whatever, fine but I'm extra annoyed that they're just now calling me when they've had my results for days.
@yellingbanana They can put something in your I.V. to relax you!!! When the anesthesiologist comes to talk to you before the surgery, ask for it! I've also heard it called a margarita
@gusgus14 Did you have to do the 3 hour with your last? Boooo. I'm sorry!
@texas_t did they give this to you before or after the spinal? Did it make you sleepy after delivery? I have so many questions! My poor anesthesiologist was asking if I was ok before he gave my spinal because I was so anxious! I was practicing deep slow breathing and he was like "are you ok" I was like I'm fine, just trying to calm myself down and hope that I'm not paralyzed forever after this. Thankfully it went very well and my only side effect was vomiting, which I get anytime I get anesthesia

@asf0613 - I can't go in until my PTO starts over Jan 1. Scheduled for Jan 7 (which is also my daughter's 3rd birthday) @texas_t Nope, I was a good bit below the cut off last time so just had to do the 1! My OB did warn me from the beginning that most twin moms fail the 1 hour so I'm not totally shocked but hopefully I'll pass the 3 hour. I just need to make sure my iPad is charged so I have something to entertain me
@mkc3888 I didn't have it last time, my plan is to get it this time and before the spinal.
*TW* My experience with c-section in spoiler
So, my first birth was a failed induction where I had an epidural. It went very smoothly with no complications. Second birth, repeat c, had a spinal that wasn't fully effective. C-section started and I started to feel stinging. Then it started to feel like my insides were being ripped out and I began to freak out and cry and try to claw myself off the table. The AS said he couldn't do anything until the baby was out. When Owen was out, he immediately gave me something that knocked me out until the staples were done (I have all the paperwork that lists what was given to me and what happened.) Needless to say, I'm completely freaked out. I decided on a new doctor b/c I feel like my previous doc should have stopped immediately and put me under GA. My new doctor knows everything that went on and will do anything I ask of him, but I still feel like I may have a panic attack walking into the hospital.
@texas_t thank you for sharing. That's absolutely terrifying! Like you should get EMDR to process that horror. I can't believe they continued after you told them something! I just want to give you a big hug and tell you it's gonna be ok and you have a better team this time. But seriously I'd try to get therapy to process that before birth, because I would totally be having panic attacks on the table.

@mkc3888 Thank you so much for your kind words. I don't even know why I didn't think about therapy. I didn't even start to process until I got pregnant again and had to face that I'm going to have to birth another child. I'm thinking the experience was probably what caused my postpartum panic attacks. I have the option to do GA, but I really want to be awake for Eli's birth. This doctor does a combo spinal/epidural, but he literally said he'd do whatever I chose. I initially thought I just wanted an epidural, but now I don't know. Part of me just wants to completely ignore it until it's time, but that's probably not too smart PS - I also get SEVERELY nauseated with anesthesia. Thank the Lord for intravenous zofran!
@texas_t holy freaking crap!!! That’s terrible! Wow. Just shocking.
But I’m there with you on the failed induction. I had an epidural about 12 hours into labor, it wore off after about 6 hours. Then I had about 6 more hours of feeling everything except for my legs before we had to do an emergency c-section. They started off by gently stabbing my stomach and when I yelled ‘ow!’ they finally believed me that my epidural wasn’t working anymore. So they had to do the spinal.
Needless to say, I also found a new ob, after a bunch of research.
We should probably have an STM birth story share ... I am so glad I read a ton of birth stories before my first experience! I would have been so lost without them.
@texas_t wow I can't believe this. Even when I had my cerclage the anesthesiologist told me that if I had any pain at all they wouldn't continue that we would figure out the anesthesia first.
@yellingbanana One of IG that I follow did a series last month on birth stories. They had VBACs, home birth VBACs, CSections, public and private hospitals, covid births. I really enjoyed it, because even though i'm a FTM, I didn't prepare myself for well enough as a FTM for my location. I assumed I could just trust the doctors, so naive.
FTMs should definitely hear some birth stories especially about the hospital you'll give birth in and a covid birth story is also very useful. And definitely brush up on the norms and procedures of your hospital, you may be surprised. That's where a birth plan comes in handy. Birth stories help you realize what you want or don't want and you can write them down and talk to your doctor.
I lost part of my mucus plug, I feel like I always see people post not to worry it comes back but then I googled and it says to let your doctor know. Is this something I should be concerned about? I feel ridiculous because this is my third pregnancy but this has never happened.
@nbcarlson I would ask my doc about it (obvi I’m a FTM, but anything where my worry outweighs any thoughts of feeling weird about asking — I ask). Just to be able to relax, ya know?
@nbcarlson our docs have heard it all. If it’s stressful for you, it’s not silly to ask for info that helps that stress go away. ❤️ The docs work for you, your concerns are not an inconvenience...it’s their job to partner with you through them.
@nbcarlson I don’t think it’s something to worry about per all the YouTube videos I watch (too many). However if concerned always call your doc. If nothing else, but to calm your worry.

@nbcarlson I called my doctor a few weeks ago because I was worried of some lower belly sensations I was having. She said she wasn't worried unless it was accompanied by mucus plug like discharge. So I don't think there's need to worry unless you feel like you're also contracting, but I would let my OB know if I were you, in a non urgent way. That way you'll be reassured and you can ask what to watch for 🤷♀️

@yellingbanana Yes! My last BMB had a thread where the STM+ moms shared their stories, and it was so fun.
