We do Christmas cards every year. Receiving everyone's cards is actually one of my favorite parts of the season! It's so fun to hear from friends from all over, and see what they have been up to over the course of the year. I've been struggling because usually we use a fun picture from a trip or something. This year I really don't have any fun pictures, womp womp, so trying to figure out what to do about that.
Yes to sending Christmas cards! I love getting them like @kkfishy9. We hang them over our slider to our deck to display them and my DS loves to ask who everyone is. What I don’t love about sending them every year is writing out the addresses for all of them!
I used to love Christmas cards when we were younger but for whatever reason have never gotten into it as an adult. Maybe something we can change going forward.
I started (finally) working on my social media announcement. I just haven't had the motivation to work on it, but I figure if I put it off any longer I'm going to end up just being like "surprise, baby!" in a few months without actually informing the extended friends and family who we'd probably have seen by now at an event/gathering/etc. if it weren't for COVID. But I got my sign done today and the rest of the props picked out / cleaned as necessary, so if the weather & dog are willing to cooperate tomorrow or Wednesday after work I can hopefully have it photographed and ready to go by the weekend.
I ordered my breast pump and ended up going with the motif battery powered one. It’s supposed to empty you in 10 mins. The nerd in me is very excited. I exclusively pumped last time so the fast the pump session, the better!
@WildMagelet you could do a 2 for 1 and send Christmas cards as your announcement!
We went to see our friends’ new house yesterday so I wanted to get some champagne to bring to them. I definitely got some interesting looks walking in to the liquor store and buying alcohol while obviously pregnant 😂
@WildMagelet a Christmas card pregnancy announcement sounds perfect! My SIL did that as their “gender reveal”.
I looove the idea of Christmas cards but I’m not very organized so not sure if I’d be able to get them out on time. I miss the excitement of getting”good” mail
@moguippy@babymamadimo part of my husbands Christmas present is going to be three bottles of nice liquor. Can’t wait to walk into the liquor store and purchase my whiskey bourbon and gin with this giant belly. 😆
Last year was the first year I ordered Christmas cards and I forgot to get envelopes for them and the cards were weirdly sized and so they are still sitting in a drawer somewhere whoops!
I love sending out Christmas cards. I usually just take a pic of the girls and get those printed at Walgreens (since they always have photo deals) and send to family and close friends. When I was still working, I would just get a box of generics from the store and hand wrote little messages. I do miss working sometimes but daycare cost was my whole check minus gas. As soon as we get the tree put up on Black Friday, I'll take pics and get the process started.
@PinkKathryn12 I’m a little nervous that if it’s true that it might rip my nipples off from being so strong but all of my YouTube research convinced me hahaha
i also follow mommy labor nurse on Instagram and she had such good things to say about the motif pump so another reason why I was easily persuaded. I really thought I would go with spectra!
We did Christmas cards the first few years we were married, and definitely the first 2 years with DD, but we've somehow failed to get it together the last couple of years...
As others have said, we don't have a lot of exciting family photos from this year, but maybe we'll try to do something just because what else do I have to do rn other than make and order cards online lol?
Rainbow Baby? {2.1.21} MC at 8 weeks {EDD 9.2.20} Rainbow Girl! {2.28.16} Baby boy, lost at 16 weeks {EDD 6.10.15}
@babymamadimo i have spectra last time and this time can only get medela through insurance that time but might get a diff one instead. Will have to check it out
My DS was up in the middle of the night crying. I went in there, picked him up and he said “put foot back on”. I didn’t have my glasses on or contacts in so I was thoroughly confused. Then I realized he was holding a sock and his feet were probably cold. So I put that sock on, had to search for the other one (digging around a crib with the mattress on the floor while very pregnant and holding a sad 2 year old is not very easy). Found the other one and put it on and then had to rock him forever. I am surprisingly not as tired as I thought I would be but I know this afternoon I’m going to have to fight to keep my eyes open.
@moguippy poor mama and DS. that's hard. we moved DS to a big boy bed and it is so much easier for me now that I'm bigger to get him in and out, EXCEPT when he is all the way at the other side of the bed trying to keep away from getting his diaper changed in the am. we have bed rails up so I can't just like lean across
@moguippy yeah, we moved him for the same reason, I did not want to buy another crib when I had a full sized bed sitting up in our other bedroom. haha. I moved him kinda early incase the transition was hard because I wanted him to be well settled before the baby comes since he is typically a GREAT sleeper. He transitioned fine, and literally doesn't care where he sleeps. He never gets out of bed either, just lays there when he is awake LOL so it was a win win. We do gate him in his room just incase he ever decides to wander because I always worry about him falling down the stairs in the middle of the night.
Anyone doing maternity/family pictures?? My SIL takes them for us and we are supposed to do them next week outside but I HAVE NO CLUE WHAT TO DRESS US IN. It's preggo me, hubby and DS is 21 months. Any suggestions? i dont wanna look frumpy but also am not "thin" so i have a hard time dressing my pregnant self
@PinkKathryn12 I have the same issue. Maternity pants are simply NOT cute on me. I have 2 dresses that I really like. A simple black one and a knit one with bell sleeves that is the appropriate color for the season. The black dress is what i will probably wear with a plaid blanket scarf. I'll be cold but my photographer is quick!

@PinkKathryn12 not being able to go in and try things on has been such a bummer for maternity clothes for me. I miss shopping. I also really miss my normal clothes.

@babymamadimo I’ll disclaim with my kid has notoriously been a good sleeper!
we started with setting up his new room/bed and then going in to visit and play for a little bit each evening and just talking about it like look at your new bed etc. i made sure to use his sound machine and keep the same before bed routine that we always do we have bed rails so he can’t fall out and the space to climb in and out is about 24 inches maybe not huge but big enough for me and him to climb through if he needed
we started with nap time only and hype up his bed every time we did naps in his big boy bed for about 2 weeks tben started bedtime in there after naps seemed okay the first couple days he cried for like 5 min but since then he has been fine 🤷🏻♀️
Is there a product suggestion thread yet for baby monitors? I can't remember and my app is way too slow to scroll through past pages. So I'll leave this here: if anyone is still looking to buy a baby monitor and wants a closed system one for security reasons, I just bought the Eufy baby monitor and it is a huge upgrade from the Infant Optics baby monitor. It's higher definition, and it doesn't lose signal like the Infant Optics does. I got it because the IO monitor kept dropping signal in the middle of the night, and the beeping for the "No Connection" alert would wake me up at least once per night.
So long story short: they cost about the same, so if you're thinking about the Infant Optics one (which has been around longer and so has more reviews on Amazon and is more widely available elsewhere), go with the Eufy instead.
