@juliebird6 I had tachycardia during both of my previous pregnancies and now this one. It started much later with my first two, but wayyy earlier with my current pregnancy. My OB sent me to a cardiologist last time and they did an echo. Everything was normal, and they chalked it up to pregnancy hormones and stress. It makes it hard to fall asleep at night for sure. I’m hoping it will calm down some.
Guys. I finally got myself a zophran prescription and it’s not working! It works for a bit but definitely not for 8 hours. Anyone else have zophran not work?!
@goldpolkadot I've never actually thrown up so never had a zophran rx but I actually came here to ask people's experience with unisom. Does it make you tired? My OB said 12.5mg 2x/day but I'm worried to make myself more tired than I already am. But I need to be able to function.
@kvh22 unisom IMMEDIATELY zonks me. I can't take it unless I'm using it to help me sleep. I know people rave about using it along with B6 but it did not work for me at all in that way. Of course you aren't barfing if you are sleeping!
@kvh22 I can only take 1/2 a unisom and I take that at night. If my morning sickness is bad, I add in B6. I can't imagine taking a unisom during waking hours and being able to function.
@juliebird6 gahh I'm so torn. Caffeine doesn't effect me (unless I haven't eaten anything in the morning - I get jittery - but I could drink a coffee before bed and be fine) so idk if that makes it more or less likely to be a problem. I was going to "love" your comment but I don't love it lol - that's a bummer. Idk if I want to buy something to try or not.
@juliebird6 I read your comment about a racing heart yesterday and hadn’t experienced it - until this morning! I took a shower and was getting dressed and my Fitbit buzzed and said “keep up the good work!” Because it evidently thought I was exercising. My heart rate was 124 but I was definitely not exercising, just showering. 😳
@juliebird6 I had that yesterday!! But I haven't had coffee in 4+ weeks (haven't been able to stomach it and I used to drink 1-2 cups every day). I drank a bottled coffee drink yesterday and I could not believe how jittery I got and how fast my heart was beating!
Totally random, but my MIL literally told me just yesterday how she couldn’t stand the smell of coffee and it was when she was pregnant with my BIL! So, I’m calling boy for you now lol. I hadn’t heard that one before!!
@goldpolkadot I've never actually thrown up so never had a zophran rx but I actually came here to ask people's experience with unisom. Does it make you tired? My OB said 12.5mg 2x/day but I'm worried to make myself more tired than I already am. But I need to be able to function.
I have insomnia something terrrrrrible & take Unisom at night. I try not to take it every night, then sometimes do a half or full pill. It KNOCKS me out ASAPPP, but it stays in my system too long because I literally cannot function the next morning or get out of bed! I have no idea how they recommend a half pill during the day with B6 for nausea. I could never..
What symptoms do you have this week? The entire book + a few chapters! =\ My nausea has ramped uppp this week! I had gastric sleeve surgery 6+ years ago, so my stomach is much different than a typical stomach and I literally can’t throw up, but I go through all of the motions of it- gag, watery eyes, watery mouth, dry heave- but can’t produce anything to make myself feel better! So, that’s horrible right now! I’m hoping it passes soon! I go from thinking something looks delicious to wanting to throw up at the sight of food. Sore boobs- so so bad! My nipples feel like a teething baby is yanking on them- 24/7! I’m soo hormonal right now, which is soo not my norm. I got so upset today that my boys ate the rest of my L.C. Italian Cheese Breadsticks- that I HAD to order yesterday Bc I saw the ad on Facebook. I cried 3 times yesterday- once because a kids Christmas movie was coming on and I wanted to watch it, second time because I was so nauseous and couldn’t throw up, and a third time because I realized how ridiculous I was being and clearly, this pregnancy is FO REAL (I had an MC in May, so cautiously optimistic has been my feelings since finding out). The permanent pregnancy hangover and fuzzy-ness is soooo real & horrible! I have insomnia (have always had sleeping issues), but it’s soo bad right now. When I take Unisom to help, it knocks me out- with wild & vivid dreams, but I literally have the worst time getting out of bed the next morning & the hangover/fuzzy feeling is sooo bad, all day, and then the cycle repeats- every single day. Super frustrating! I have 3 school age kids (9th, 3rd, and 3rd) and they finally go back to school next Tuesday, after their 6 month spring break (I’m not excited or anything =]) and I’m hoping getting back on the school routine will be helpful. (I’m a Realtor and fortunately don’t work your typical 8-5 in an office setting, so that’s been a blessing the past couple weeks!) So, basically, I’m currently the poster child for teenagers for “why celibacy is best,” (jk.. kind of), but I have welcomed all of my current misery, as it helps me heal from my MC & helps me with my positive thoughts of holding a healthy baby at the end of this!!! *book/rant over- for now!*
GYKY: What is your go-to food for nausea? Everything & nothing.. literally.
(So glad y’all can relate.. otherwise I’d really sound unstable!)
@shantx I’m sorry you’ve been feeling so bad! I’m with you though on symptoms being equally crappy and comforting at the same time after a loss. ❤️ I wanted to cry yesterday because I ordered a lime jello mix and a strawberry one with our grocery order and instead they gave me two boxes of lime. The struggle is real!
i have to admit I laughed at your poster child for abstinence comment. 😂
Sorry, I suck at tags, but I'm on board with all of you who can't imagine taking Unisom during the day. I took 1/2 a pill last night because I'm still recovering from a sleepless night Monday night and I am dragging so hard this morning. At one point I was worried I might fall asleep driving. I could never take any during the day. Not a chance.
I got the okay from a nurse this morning to start Unisom and B6. I hope it helps. I’ve felt terrible this week and can’t sleep on top of that. I’m assuming the Unisom will make me feel hazy tomorrow, but at this point I don’t even care. 😬
@shantx ohhh! Fingers crossed you're right about the coffee/boy thing! I'm kind of hoping for a boy (although obviously I will be completely happy with any healthy baby!!) I'm sorry you're experiencing so many strong symptoms! That's the worst! I felt really really terrible weeks 6-8 and I'm finally starting to feel a littleeee bit better (knock on wood), I'm currently at 9+4.
DH just came home from Walgreens with B6, Unisom, ginger ale (all things I asked for), and then he saw Sea Bands and bought those too. He gave me a B6 and opened up the Sea Bands and said I need to get better. 😂 If he didn’t look like a husband buying things for his struggling sick wife, I’m not sure who would! ❤️
@theblondebump i'm glad you are starting to kind of feel better! I'm hoping and praying i make that same turn for the better next week when i hit 9 weeks!
My nausea is so bad right now. I literally have to eat something like every 1-2 hours to keep it at bay. I have a strong suspicion this baby is a girl because I felt similarly and ate similarly when I was pregnant with DD. I do not remember feeling this nauseous at all for DS, and my pregnancy with him was more recent so I feel like I'd remember it better. Anyone other STMs+ making these guesses yet? Sorry if I missed this discussion elsewhere already..I'm already having a hard time keeping up with the long threads!
@shantx@theblondebump haha I've had the coffee aversion with all 3 and have 2 girls...tbd on this one until delivery.
@bblair24 I'm about to be your husband (although I have B6 from last pregnancy still b/c they only had 100mg so I use a pill cutter to do quarters). I asked my last BMB and am going to try unisom, sea bands, something called "real lemon" to mix into water, and maybe get some ginger ale although I have some ginger sparkling water I need to try. I didn't love it last time (and I like ginger but I'm weird about flavored water).
I hate to bring up weight as I know it can be triggering for some but I'm losing weight much faster/earlier than I did with my other pregnancies. I don't throw up but I'm starting to get legitimately concerned. I think I mentioned I lost 5lbs between 8 & 12 weeks with both previous pregnancies but was basically stable before that. I likely lost a bit and then gained it back once morning sickness subsided at 14 weeks so showed no loss/gain at the 16 week appointment. I go on to gain the "normal" amount. I've lost almost that much and I'm only 7 weeks today. I'm going to buy the unisom, sea bands, etc. today and then if I'm still losing weight I'm going to reach out to the doctor over the weekend to figure something out ASAP. Diclegis is basically just unisom+B6 but time released so idk that it would make anything better if the unisom doesn't work or makes it so I can't function.
@kvh22 I’ve been losing weight too, which is also normal for my first trimester. I’ve lost close to 4 or 5 pounds since last week. I hate it because it feels so unhealthy. I can speak to diclegis though, that’s what got me through with DD2! I took it the entire time. To be fair I’ve never tried Unisom and B6 so I can’t compare that to diclegis in terms of effectiveness, but it honestly helped me so much. I’d go off of it for a couple days because I’d be feeling so good, and then it would come right back so I’d start taking it again. I eventually stopped trying to get off of it and just took it until she was born. If these OTC meds don’t work I plan in asking for diclegis at my appointment in a couple weeks. I really hate taking medicine - even Tylenol haha. But we have to be able to function and eat! ❤️
@bblair24 yes, same on hating taking medicine. It takes a lot for me to decide to take ibuprofen or acetaminophen. I only took ibuprofen when I got my wisdom teeth out (some narcotics make me get sick). I just got back from the store and daycare pickup and have on seabands. I think I should wait on the unisom in case it makes me too tired. My OB said 12.5mg which is half a tablet but I might do half of THAT (7.25) with my pill cutter to start. It's good to know someone else is in the same boat with the weight loss even though I wish neither of us was that way. I remember with my first pregnancy my OB asked if everything was okay when I'd lost the 5lbs at 12 weeks which has me thinking that losing this much already isn't good but I guess that's just speculation. My other BMB I asked for all the tips is super curious for next Wednesday to find out if it's twins If it's not I'm going to be convinced this is a boy and then I'm sure we'll be shocked to have our 3rd girl lol.
@kvh22 yep, I just took normal strength Tylenol when I had my wisdom teeth out! 😂 My OB didn’t mention taking a smaller dose of Unisom. I’ll have to decide how much to take tonight. I’m so desperate for a normal night’s sleep!
I had the same exact thought this morning about a third girl! I finally gathered the strength to sit up in bed and thought I want to think this is a boy because I feel so much worse...but I’m pretty sure it’ll be another girl. And then I thought “at least we won’t have to buy new clothes.” 😜
@shantx yup for crying too- watched Love on the Spectrum on Netflix and was sobbing bc I just felt for these parents who have to hear their children talk about being bullied and not having any partners in life. Broke my heart and it must be hormones bc everyone else talks about how cute and funny the show is! Also I destroy my husband if he eats food I'm craving or saving-- I would let my son get away with it but boy would it make me sad!
@bblair24 YES I've spent so little on clothes for DD2. It's amazing!! It would definitely be more expensive to have a boy. DH loves the girls but I feel like most men would like one son. I'm open to a 4th if he is so he's probably more likely to want another if this is a girl.
@kvh22 I definitely think DH wants this one to be a boy, but he’s telling himself it’s a girl. He said he’ll just be pleasantly surprised if it’s a boy 😂 I think 3 is our limit. He’s already talked about a vasectomy, haha! We’ve also always talked about adopting. We’ve both had that in our hearts even before we got married. So I think any kiddos after this one will probably join the family that way!
@theblondebump I'm the same this time with coffee. I suddenly couldn't drink it anymore at around 5 weeks, and it came from nowhere! It was literally my first day of nausea and it started with that last awful cup and a horrible metallic taste that didn't go away for almost 24 hours. Hate to say it but I'm having a girl, but all are different and it seems my cravings are kind of opposite from typical (fruit with a girl, vs. aaaall of the junk when I was pregnant with DS).
@forevertired mine came out of nowhere too! In the beginning, I was worried I wouldn't be able to cut out caffeine because I was used to having like two cups of coffee a day plus drinking lots of iced tea throughout the day. Now I'm wondering if I'll ever even want another cup of coffee ever again haha.
@forevertired@theblondebump I had horrible coffee aversion my last pregnancy (it was a boy 😉) and I hate to say it lasted even after delivery for a month or so. However, I eventually was able to drink iced coffee at least!
I have a different symptom I havent had before. Still don't feel pregnant really but I am SO hungry yet not hungry for anything. I'm not nauseous and nothing makes me feel sick, just nothing sounds particularly good. Literally stand and stare at the fridge/pantry several times a day and walk away with nothing.
yes @runsoncoffee ! I've had the same thing this week. But then I force myself to eat something and once I'm eating it, I'm like okay yeah this is good. haha. But until I make myself take a bite, it feels like I'm not in the mood for ANYTHING.
@bblair24 I love that you and your H want to adopt. So do me and DH, and the same as far as you both had it in your hearts before marriage. DH’s dad is adopted, and I’ve just always felt a calling to adopt. We’re unsure of when we might want that, but one thought is if that we always wanted 4 so with #2 on the way then next we’d to adopt two siblings if possible.
@juliebird6 yes I’m totally making guesses too! I feel like my symptoms are way more similar to my girls than our boy. Especially since I felt really similar with both girls! We keep going back and forth on what we’re leaning towards...logistics-wise a boy would be easier for our house. But I love the idea of having 2 girls in a row since ours are GBG. Obviously excited either way, but so far I’m leaning girl for my guess!
I so so so feel for everyone feeling nauseous - I am too! But I will say, I’m finding it super comforting reading about everyone in the same boat. I’m trying not to complain too much to DH but I just feel soooo sick bleh!
@bblair24@mamabee1113 I love that you all have a heart for adoption too!! 💜 DH and I actually had an informational meeting with an agency prior to our last cycle (we were going to try 2 or 3 more cycles before moving to adoption). We definitely still see adoption as part of our story for a second and/or third child...it was something we discussed before we got married too!
I also had the coffee aversion with my girls! I can’t remember if I had it with my son or not. I used to have to run through our kitchen at work to avoid getting sick from the coffee smell. I don’t have it yet this time. But I’m definitely making guesses already at about this one. It would be most helpful for us to have a girl because I still have my girl stuff from 12 months and up, but I would love a brother for my son.
And if you are what you eat, I’m going to be a potato soon. It’s one of the only things I can stomach - potato salad, mashed potatoes, potato pancakes, hashbrowns, even french fries. My son had his first McDonald’s drive through experience yesterday and he’s already hooked. French fries, real coke and hot mustard hit the spot.
I’ve been choking down coffee every morning, but it’s getting harder and harder to get down. I’m afraid I’m also working towards an aversion 😷
@rexnie yum potatoes. I’ve been craving hash browns lately! I haven’t had french fries in forever and last week I ate some left over from DD2’s lunch. They tasted so good, I asked DD1 if she was going to finish hers and then I ate those too when she got full 😂
@kvh22 how did the Unisom work for you last night? I finally got more than a few hours sleep! 🎉 I woke up once and went right back to sleep, rather than staying awake for an hour like I have the past several nights. I’m feeling a bit groggy this morning but my stomach does seem to be in a better mood.
@forevertired - so funny about cravings, I craved fresh fruit, juice and jello with my now 3 year old (His birthday today!) baby boy but this time around I’m craving things like fried chicken, beef, carbs, pasta... I am not really a big meat eater so it’s odd for me to crave meat. It has me convinced I’m having a girl because my symptoms are so opposite my first experience.
Had an ultrasound yesterday and saw the heartbeat!! Also confirmed there is only ONE baby! I had been convinced of twins because of my crazy hunger and nausea (had no nausea with my first). Very relieved as I was afraid to add any more complications to my list of it were to be multiples!
