@mling90 hi! Another first time pregnancy here I'm having the same thing - no appetite at all, I basically just feel like low key nauseous 75% of the time and never feel like eating, but force myself to just have little snacks every hour or two. My go to snacks have been: saltines with a little bit of peanut butter, an apple, special k cereal, trail mix/almonds/pistachios, a little bit of cheddar cheese with pretzels or crackers, mango or pineapple, yogurt, and sometimes I can stomach chicken noodle soup or vegetable soup. I try to eat least focus on eating healthy, nutritious foods since I can't eat a whole lot, but I'm having major meat aversion so I'm finding it tough to eat enough protein!
I can't believe how tired I am - yesterday I spent nearly the entire day in bed, I just had ZERO energy!
I have not experienced the sore boobs at all, but my already pretty large boobs have definitely gotten bigger, my bras hardly fit already haha.
Also, it's so funny that so many of you have mentioned sneezing! I also have been sneezing a lot! My husband just pointed it out to me the other day that since I've been pregnant, I never sneeze just once or twice anymore, it's always like 5 or 6 times in a row!
@riff323 - same here with the gassiness! And I wish I was thirsty - I'm so tired of drinking liquids, but before I was feeling super constipated and the more liquids I drink, the easier that part seems to be, so I force myself to drink a lot.
What liquids do you all find the easiest to drink? I can't seem to drink plain water, it makes me feel more nauseous. I've been drinking gatorade or apple juice mixed with water to dilute it and make it less sugary. I usually drink some OJ in the morning. And if I'm feeling really nauseous, I'll have a ginger ale. Before pregnancy, the first thing I did every single day when I woke up was have a cup of coffee - I was a religious coffee drinker. Now, the thought of coffee makes my stomach turn! I haven't had it in weeks.
@theblondebump I was craving a cherry limeade from Sonic the other day when DH happened to be doing our Walmart grocery pickup. He added flavored water to the order (carbonated water) that's cherry limeade flavor and it's delicious! They have a bunch of flavored waters. We usually get a couple different bottles in our orders but this satisfies my cravings for now haha.
@theblondebump I’ve been able to munch on almonds (and goldfish crackers oddly lol)...I’m trying to find food that will pack the most nutrition into small bites—so I’ve been trying Luna bars and kind bars too.
Interested to hear if others have ideas too of small bites to get big nutrients! I hope this goes away soon—I was looking forward to some extra eating!! Hahaha
@bblair24 - that sounds good! My mom has been giving me crap about not drinking fake sugar :EYE ROLL: Pre-pregnancy, I drank a few diet cokes a day and two cups of coffee a day with splenda and I'm not having either of those now. I still drink diet ginger ale occasionally though when my stomach is upset. I was trying to be good about not drinking things with fake sugar, butttt I might have to go back to some flavored water.
@mling90 - yes, same! I wrote a list somewhere in one of these discussions with some of the snacks I've been doing because I can't really stomach any full meals. Some small snacks that have been working for me are: pistachios and almonds, cheddar cheese and apples, saltines with some peanut butter on them, fruits like banana, pineapple, mango and strawberries, special k cereal, yogurt. If I need to just put a little something in my stomach to avoid feeling nauseous I eat a fat sourdough pretzel (really no nutritional value haha but does the trick to help avoid queasy feeling). I've also been drinking a lot of smoothies - sometimes I can't fathom drinking one, but other times it's refreshing and filling. I just throw a few strawberries, a banana, 1/2 c milk, a few ice cubes and a yogurt into the blender and its delicious. At least gives me the vitamins I need and makes me feel full.
mling90 i get horrible gas cramps as well, to the point where i convince myself something is wrong every. freaking. time. If you haven't done it yet, lay on you left side when you feel them starting. It helps with digestion and movement.
My food aversions get worse every day. We decided to go to WI to visit my mom this weekend. She just called and asked me what groceries she should order. My list: Kings Hawaiian Rolls, mint chocolate chip ice cream, and bananas.
Is anyone else super hungry but most things are unappealing? I feel like when someone says they feel nauseous they have like 5 crackers & I eat the whole saltines pack 😂.
TW Just want to say that I’m so grateful for this symptom though. I find it reassuring with my PGAL brain.

@kelseyyh haha I am a "5 cracker" nausea person. I've lost 5lbs by 12 weeks both prior pregnancies and I don't even actually throw up I very much have to force myself to eat during this time when I normally LOVE food. I also am a wine drinker and those calories add up, I'm sure. ETA: so NOT drinking wine probably contributes to the weight loss.
@kvh22 I think I gained 10 pounds in the first tri with DS 😂. And I’m not small as I’ve mentioned in other threads lol. I’m sure the wine detox affects things!
Hubby & Me: Born 1993 Married: August 2013 Son: December 2018 Baby in heaven: February 2020, was due Sept
@theblondebump your snack ideas sound awesome! You're very smart to just force yourself to eat often - I find that helps me tremendously! Sometimes it's a bit of a mental game because the nausea is so strong but when I can power through and just get something in my stomach (preferably something healthy and with a bit of protein) I usually always feel better. That said, after reading your post I did totally just add saltines and big pretzels to my walmart pickup for this weekend LOL
@kadeephd unfortunately nooooo haha. I think taking a smaller amount generally helps me - I find if I take a full dose then occasionally I pop wide awake in the middle of the night, but with starting small it's usually not too bad. That said, on nights when I know i need sleep really bad I will put another small piece on my nightstand and if I wake up and it's still "early" enough then I'll have another piece.
Something that has helped me are the premiere protein shakes from Costco. I have those and if I absolutely can’t stomach a meal, l drink that. It makes me feel like I am getting some nutrition.
@kelseyyh I go through soooo many saltines! And when I start eating them, the girls want some too. We easily go through a pack a day. DH put TWO boxes of saltines on the last grocery order 😂 I do feel the same way - like I want to eat something so I open the fridge or pantry and just stand there and stare. Nothing looks tasty! The other night I started making a salad and it just wasn’t going to work. I could hardly look at it. MIL brought over a salad for part of our dinner last night and it was delicious. Who knows!
@goldpolkadot yesss - I agree! Even though I often feel super nauseous and don't want to eat anything, it's usually the case that when I have a few bites of something, my body gets in the mood and I want to keep going and feel better afterwards! And yess - those big pretzels are clutch sometimes!
@pelorunningmama I was just thinking today about adding some protein powder to my shakes - might need to do this!!
I feel like such a cliche right now, I just sent my husband to the grocery store to get me ice cream LOL
@bbrahmbhatt oh noooo, next time get the full-fat version for sure!
@kelseyyh I agree: I'm hungry, but nothing sounds good! And I had the same problem last pregnancy: I felt really queasy and the only time I didn't was when I was eating something so... gained too much weight, got a big lecture from my OB and spent the rest of my pregnancy freaking out about it. I think when I have my first in-person appt I'm going to tell them I have bad body image issues and ask them to leave my weight alone for mental health reasons.
Random symptom question: is anyone else struggling with wearing a mask? To be transparent, I have some general anxiety (pregnant or not) and I don’t love wearing a mask anyways because it makes me feel a little claustrophobic. But now it’s like 100 times worse! I still wear it of course, but I feel panicked the whole time I have it on. I needed to go in to Target yesterday (I did a pick up order but forgot a couple things) and I was all but running to get out of the store so that I could lose the mask. Maybe it’s because of the constant vague nausea? I don’t know!
@riff323 MH had to run to school to grab some stuff, so I had him get my chick-fil-a while he was out...it was the best thing, the only thing really, that has tasted good in the past 2ish weeks.
I find the mornings are the worse for me, and I generally feel better once I get some food in my system too. I had my first dry heaves this morning, so we will see if things get worse. I added the crunchy sourdough pretzels to my list for this week too lol.
Is anyone else doing smooties? I keep thinking that would be a way to get some fruits and veggies in in the morning. Does anyone have a tasty recipe?
omg chick fil a sounds so good - I haven't had ANY fried food since I found out I was pregnant because I was experiencing a lot of constipation/gas before and I thought it would make it worse, but now I'm feeling like chicken strips would be amazing haha. I did have a peach milkshake from chick fil a a few weeks ago and it was DELISH!
@bbrahmbhatt - I've been having a smoothie in the morning a lot, no veggies though just fruit. I just use one small container of cannon yogurt, a banana, whatever other fruit I have around and feel like putting in (usually strawberries, occasionally I'll throw in some blueberries/blackberries/raspberries), a few ice cubes, and 1/2 c of milk. It keeps me full for a while. My husband seems to think it's too much sugar but at least its natural sugar?
@theblondebump Natural sugar all the way! I remember as a teen my Dad told me not to go “overboard” with grapes. He felt like 10 was more than enough. Welp, I could be having an ice cream sundae, chocolate bars & gummy worms 🤷🏼♀️.
I would love smoothie ideas too! Hopefully DS stops being scared of the sound of the blender.

@riff323 I was trying to justify chicken nuggets as healthy the other day to DH Haven't had a veggie in months!
I can only eat carbs and I say that literally, I dry heave if I think about anything other than bagels or crackers! And just SO tired... my toddler waking us up during the night is not helping at all.. Thankfully working from home right now because I try to crawl in bed anytime I get a little break!
I’m new here commenting (it took me a while to figure it out ) , but I’ve been following the thread! This is my first pregnancy and it’s been comforting to have some shared experiences!
The worst symptoms now (6w) are gas cramps, they’ve been beyond painful, like curled up on the floor, but once the gas passes all is good. So strange. Also, nothing sounds appetizing at all to eat, I’m forcing myself to eat snacks throughout the day, but it’s been rough!
@mling90 what have you been able to eat? I need new motivation for snacks!
@bblair24 I'm hardly having any symptoms yet (end of the month due date) so not personally experiencing this, but I can definitely see how nausea would make this worse. I can only handle the mask for so long before it's hard for me to breathe/feel claustrophobic too. Like 40 min tops for me. One tip my grandma gave me is to blow air downwards. That does help some. I also have a lot better luck with this mask than any others I've had. It's very lightweight and comfortable... https://www.alexandraandwells.com/face-coverings
@bbrahmbhatt I try to put some frozen (or fresh) kale or spinach and frozen (or fresh) avocado in my smoothies. So usually I use banana or dates to sweeten it and then strawberries plus a combo of blueberries, mango, pineapple, papaya, etc. I basically go off of what they have for mixes or that looks good in the frozen fruit section. Sometimes I'll just do banana with PB and no other fruit (but still avocado and greens). I'll also add chia, hemp, pumpkin, sunflower and/or flax seeds and oats, yogurt, and or milk/almond milk. Yesterday I did oats, PB, bananas, and strawberries. Other times I'll go tropical and leave out the PB & oats. Adding some protein will help balance the sugar spike so try seeds or yogurt (or protein powder if you like).
I am planning to get smoothie ingredients on our next grocery trip. I'm going to get spinach, avocado (good tip @kvh22), a bunch of frozen fruit,yogurt/milk, and fresh ginger. I think I'm going to try to have a smoothie for breakfast. Lately all I've been able to eat is cereal, but I'm thinking something with ginger in it might be palatable and might help my stomach settle.
@runsoncoffee thanks for the recommendation! Those are pretty masks, too. Luckily I don’t have to wear one very often but I’ll look in to these if I keep struggling with my current one.
@bblair24 I had a friend reco putting a drop of peppermint essential oil on your mask - I totally bet that would help with nausea! Peppermint has always been a lifesaver for me during labor, and I open the bottle and sniff if I'm ever feeling super nauseous
Okay friends is anyone a walking disaster? Tonight I was every possible mood a human being can be 😭. I know I had mood swings with DS, but man... I feel bad for DH tonight for having to put up with this. Am I the only crazy one lol?
Hubby & Me: Born 1993 Married: August 2013 Son: December 2018 Baby in heaven: February 2020, was due Sept
9 weeks today and still reallllyyy struggling with Nausea vomiting and dry heaving. I can keep anything down. This is sooo tough. Still really thankful to be pregnant but also struggling so hard core lol. I can’t even seem to keep toast down and I don’t want to eat or drink anything which I know is horrible.
@eahayes my go-to snacks this far have been yogurt (add granola), scrambled or hard boiled eggs, cereal, goldfish crackers, almonds, cheese sticks, baby carrots and dried fruit. I read that bone broth has some good nutrients in it too for the days when nothing sounds appetizing.
After almost identical morning sickness experiences with my first two pregnancies (essentially an 8 week hangover), I've almost thrown up quite a few times and my morning sickness started earlier by almost a week than last pregnancy. Idk if this is just a fluke, if it's a boy (after two girls), or, terrifying thought (for me with a 3 and 1yo)...twins. I feel worse than I did at my peak morning sickness around 10 weeks with birth girls.
@grilledcheeezin I'm sorry you can't keep anything down. Have you messaged your doctor for a script or recommendation for anything? I lost 5lbs both pregnancies just from loss of appetite so I can't imagine getting sick that frequently but I feel for you.
@grilledcheeezin I’m sorry that it’s so bad. The dry heaving is awful, I had that a lot with DS. I hope you’re able to get some lazy days in and just rest up.
@kvh22 I hope you’re managing okay with the bad morning sickness & the air quality where you are! Not a fun combo ❤️.
Hubby & Me: Born 1993 Married: August 2013 Son: December 2018 Baby in heaven: February 2020, was due Sept
@kvh22 I’m sorry you’re feeling so bad! I hope that you can find some relief and also maybe some food that can settle your stomach. I know what you mean - I have two girls too and the symptoms for this one have been so different. I’ve also considered a boy or twins. The thought of twins makes my head want to explode. 😂
ETA I’m almost positive if I ever have twins (which is highly unlikely) that they’ll be girls. DH is convinced that he can’t produce a boy, haha!
@theblondebump that smoothie sounds good- I'm addicted to Dave's bagels in the morning (got them because they have some protein in them and I couldn't stomach much else).. now I'm getting into yogurt, granola, and blueberries. Basically I just eat all day long
@mling90 I should try to hard boil some eggs, but not sure if I could stomach them! I'm getting to a point salads sound good, but of course only the terrible for you kind with ranch and breaded chicken carrots are going down ok.. I made a lot of bone broth when I was doing fertility tx (SO easy to make) but its living in my freezer right now- mayyyyybe in the second tri I can get at it again
@kvh22@bblair24 my morning sickness came on earlier and stronger than my last 3 pregnancies and it totally crossed my mind too about twins 😳 I’d totally be thrilled tho - DH would probably have a heart attack but personally I’ve always wanted twins and would just love love love a set of identical twins 🥰 One can hope!! Unlikely for sure, but it always crosses my mind on first sono for sure.
Speaking of twins, my husband is convinced we're having twins, so I am very much looking forward to Monday's sonogram haha. He just has in his mind that we are having twin girls lol. Twins do not run in my family, btw. But like two years ago, his dad went to a psychic and the psychic told him that when he became a grandpa for the first time, it would be twice at the same time. So we've always said that either his sister and I would be pregnant at the same time or that we'd have twins. Time will tell!! (And of course, no way the psychic could be wrong! )
