Upcoming Appointments: this Thursday. growth scan plus OB appointment, I have a laundry list of stuff to talk about.
Rant/Rave: I have been feeling pretty down this past week or so. Not sure if it is just from being tired and pregnancy symptoms being annoying and persistence or something. It is something I already struggle with so.
Questions? not really..
GTKY: What is your biggest pet peeve? ugh that is hard for me. I have a few.... I think the biggest one lately is people who aren't understanding of another's view point, especially politically. I have known people to post things like "I won't let me child be around this person if they vote for this politician" and it is upsetting because it is such a small part of who someone really is but we are to the point where a majority of people see it as a huge part of who you are and I don't agree with that. I don't voice my opinions on politics because it is a private matter to me and I vote based on what is best for my family.
Upcoming Appointments: I’m in the waiting room now, lol.
Rant/Rave: I’m really getting into the swing of being a SAHM. I’m enjoying it more than I thought I would! Of course, once the kids start virtual school in 2 weeks, that all might change, lol.
Questions? Anyone know what it means if they find a “soft marker” on an ultrasound? My SIL just had her anatomy scan today and she had to have genetic testing done because they found a soft marker on her ultrasound. She is AMA, so she’s freaking out a little bit. But it could be nothing, right? I tried to google and it made me even more confused.
GTKY: What is your biggest pet peeve? People chewing 😖 and also rudeness. Like, it’s not necessary.
@mtengl I totally agree with you. I happen to live in an area that swings very far one particular way, and my beliefs don’t align with theirs a lot of the time but we can still find common ground and get along! I really don’t like politics because people tend to get so heated and hateful towards opposing viewpoints. It stresses me out, lol.
@kitkatz1990 it’s called misophonia. I have a severe case of it. I hate the sound of people chewing, smacking, eating in general, knuckles cracking, or a clock ticking. It seriously puts me on edge.
I once considered quitting a job, because I shared an office with a girl that ate oatmeal out of her stainless steel cup with a metal spoon and ate carrots all the time.
Baby is the size of: Tall as a can of Pringles or an Eggplant
Upcoming Appointments: tomorrow for my gluclose.
Rant/Rave: Yesterday, my pregnancy brain almost cost me a grand. 🤪 I took DD into the pool with my iPhone in my pocket. I thought, “where did I put my phone”, as soon as I got in. Sure enough it was in my back pocket... submerged in water. Thankfully somehow it’s still working like a champ.
Questions? Do any of you recall what was the name/brand was talked about of a baby wearing thing in one of the main threads? There were multiple posts about it and discussing color options. I can’t find it now or remember who was posting about it.
GTKY: What is your biggest pet peeve? The noise thing!!! 😖
@mtengl Yes, I agree on the overshare and threatening over the politics. The whole country has gone mad!
@potofgolden sometimes I feel super disconnected to my Jan19 moms because they are pretty politically outspoken on FB and my view points don't always line up... Like I was waiting for the hate when I said I wasn't going to make my 19month old wear a mask when she is 2 when a mom asked about transitioning.. If it was required than sure but it is 10 and under here are okay without a mask....
@mtengl I find it pointless to wear a mask when I have my 18 mo old. She can’t wear a mask and is a thumb sucker. So if the household is getting corona, it’s probably being spread from her... so what the point of me wearing my mask. I still wear mine, but it feels unsafe to wear one while pregnant... I’m dying over here! Go away corona!!
@potofgolden I feel the same way but in our county it is required for all indoor places for anyone 10 and over. It is also enforced by businesses. If I run into a store/restaurant/doctors office that is when I wear it but that is it. Our 19 month old goes to the store with us maybe a few times a month other than she just goes to daycare and the adults wear mask per mandate but the kids don't have to.
Baby is the size of: Echidna! PSA if you don’t know what this is, go look it up. Craziest little animal 😂 (my Baby sizes are normally animals because DH is a vet)
Upcoming Appointments: This coming Friday for a f/u u/s to make sure my placenta moved away from my cervix.
Rant/Rave: Rant: Every. Little. Thing. At. Work. I have the shortest fuse at work all of a sudden with my coworkers and particularly my boss. I haven’t gone off on anyone, but I’m mostly just keeping to myself because the smallest things are annoying me. Thanks hormones.
Questions?: don’t think I have any.
GTKY: What is your biggest pet peeve?: oh I HATE anyone over the age of 6 smacking or chewing with their mouth open. Also, just rudeness. Maybe it’s my Midwest hospitality but when people don’t say please, thank you, you’re welcome or hold open the door...it drives me bonkers 😂

Rant/Rave: rave: after years of avoiding the kitchen im quite proud of myself for not being completely helpless when it comes to making food! I made a mini thanksgiving dinner last night (i just used turkey breast) and it was so good! I've been craving thanksgiving dinner for a long time now and finally figured out how to make it!!😍 Rant: acid reflux is so gross!!!!!😫
Questions? Other than staying upright, does anyone have any tips for keeping the acid reflux at bay?
GTKY: What is your biggest pet peeve? Unsolicited advice😖 I'm not a confrontational person so I have a hard time reminding people that what they're saying is their opinion and not fact as well as most of the time I know they mean well and dont realize how annoying they're being. I'm also quite stubborn and find myself wanting to do the opposite of what people tell me to do(when they're sharing "amazing advice") even if their advice really is solid🙄
Baby is the size of: A box of chocolates. (I’m not saying it, but I know you all are thinking it!😂)
Upcoming Appointments: 9/3 for routine! Then begins the every 2 week appts
Rant/Rave: I passed my 3 hour glucose test! By about 20-30 points with each draw. I was also able to catch a nap in between blood draws in a comfy recliner in a room by myself. 🥳 Totally took my giant fluffy blanket and cut the lights off. Finding that silver lining! 🥰
Questions? Not today!
GTKY: What is your biggest pet peeve? As an English teacher, the misuse of their, there and they’re....your and you’re...to, too and two...it gripes me! As a normal person though, I hate rudeness. It infuriates me. Like look, you are no better than anyone else and no one else is better than you, so just be nice. The world would be so much better if people would just be kind. 💜
@babywiik oh the acid reflux! It’s awful! One thing I have tried that seems to take the edge off is warm unsweetened almond milk with a bit of honey mixed in. Also, try to avoid eating a couple hours before you go to bed. 💜
@mtengl I hear you on politics! I am very far leaning to one side, but I still absolutely love and respect people for what they feel is right. There is far too much hatred spewed from both sides. This is America! We should be able to believe how we want and still respect/befriend people who don’t share our views. 💜
@babywiik acids reflux has been my recent enemy for the last week as well, but I do get by without it once every 2-3 days. I’ve been eating smaller meals - I told my husband that I can’t take normal me portions anymore and need to be served what a child would eat 😅 it’s hard to convince myself not to go back for seconds though sometimes.
@1MommyRunner Not an English teacher but I get a little peeved when grammar is wrong! I used to be so annoying with texting because even when texts were limited I had to spell out things and got onto people that took texting shortcuts because it bothered me so much
Me: 27 DH: 30 Started dating: 10/2010 ;; Married 10/2017 Started TTC: 10/2019 BFP: 12/20/19 ;; MC: 12/24/19 BFP: 3/5/20 ;; EDD: 11/11/20
@1MommyRunner@lovelee3 thanks for the tips, I'll try them both! I think eating smaller meals would definitely help and I also love almond milk so ill try that as well!
@kitkatz1990 if I'm remembering correctly a "soft marker" on an ultrasound means that they saw something that could potentially be related to a chromosomal abnormality such as Down Syndrome (it might also be used if there is a potential carriers disease but I'm not sure on that part) It doesn't mean that they baby has a chromosomal abnormality but indicates genetic testing. My cousin's baby had soft markers for down syndrome but the genetic testing came back negative (97% accuracy) and her child doesn't have down syndrome.
Rant/Rave: Rant - Currently sitting in my car for my 3 hr glucose test (although it's only 2 in Canada). Rave - Not sure why, but I really like the glucose drink! Maybe it's just because I'm starving and enjoyed the sugar? Or I'm exhausted because I was up 5 times peeing last night?!?!
Questions? This week's random question! Can a newborn (like a brand new newborn) use a soother? Or do you have to wait a week or two? I bought one of those cute ones with the attached stuffed animal and it says 0-3... does it actually mean 0?!?!
GTKY: What is your biggest pet peeve? I have so many pet peeves with drivers!!! People that don't signal, please that don't go the speed limit... then when the speed limit decreases they don't slow down and start start speeding, people that don't let you in when you want to change lanes... I could go on forever!! One thing about working from home with COVID is I have a lot less road rage! lol
Upcoming Appointments: doing 3 hour glucose testing currently. Next week MFM ultrasound on Monday and midwife on Tuesday.
Rant/Rave: I'm tired of the heat. So ready for things to cool down. Tomorrow is 10 weeks of contractions, I'm so looking forward to my epidural in 9-12 weeks 😆
Questions?
GTKY: What is your biggest pet peeve? Glaring hypocrisy. I mean I know we are all hypocrites in some way, me included. But it just really annoys me when people are preaching and talk as if they are perfect then behave in the exact way they are trying to call others out for. It's just an amazing lack of self-awareness. Sometimes it pisses me off so much that I can't stop myself from calling them out, that's why one of my brother's isn't talking to me 😆. But I do think highly of people who realize that their own behavior is something they don't like and they acknowledge it while working to change their own behavior.
@lovelee3 where in the Midwest are you at? Coming from Texas I generally find Midwesterns to be rude 😆. They slam doors in your face in my experience of the Midwest and I don't observe the same thank you/please or even friendly small talk.
@babywiik My only advice for reflux is Tums... lots of tums!!! lol I don't know. Mine has been getting so bad when I lay down at night to go to bed (even if I haven't eaten in 3-4 hours) that I think I'm just going to ask my OB for a prescription!
@1MommyRunner Glad to hear you passed your 3 hour test! I'm in the middle of mine right now... just sitting in my car on my work laptop pretending to work!
Re Politics... that's always a tough one! As someone from the outside looking into American politics right now it seems so polarizing... and just plain nasty sometimes!
@mia80 im 100% sure newborns can use a pacifier(I'm guessing the same thing as soothers?😉) because many of my nieces and nephews have gotten them from the hospital when they're born. I also bought a few and the 0-3 month size has a smaller nipple part than the 3-6month size. I'm banking on this baby liking them because my niece wouldn't, just liked her fingers, and my sister said it was impossible to shove her fingers in her mouth to soothe her when she was upset like you can do with a paci😆 Edited for typos
My daughter used wubbanub paci’s pretty much from day 1! The soother is the same kind as the hospital. The little animal attached helped keep it on her instead of falling to the floor or beside her. Plus when she got a little bigger, she loved to snuggle it! She had a puppy one that was her favorite, and she not calls all soothers/paci’s a puppy! 😂 We kept the stuffed portion after she gave up the paci. 🥰 @mia80
Upcoming Appointments: midwife appointment next Saturday
Rant/Rave: rave- even though it’s 99% likely I won’t see my family and 100% like we won’t see DH’s family between now and next year or maybe 2022, I feel like I have enough people around here who I can count on for any support we may need. I’m so grateful for that.
Questions? How do you experienced moms organize all the stuff for a baby? I need a dresser of some sort, and I have a big bookcase... will those two things be enough or should I plan for more? (I’m one of those slackers who at this point has prepared very little. I hope to change that within the next few days.)
GTKY: What is your biggest pet peeve? Close-mindedness. I find it hard to take people seriously when their way is the only way and they’re judgmental of those who think differently from them. Variety makes the world interesting, in my opinion.
@kelk5 thank you for the info!! She did have genetic testing done and should have her results back on Friday. They also want her to go back for a more in-depth look at his heart, which scares me more because I know Down Syndrome and heart issues often go hand in hand. Hopefully everything is ok and baby has a healthy heart!
@babywiik I finally gave up on the Tums and have started taking Prilosec and it literally got rid of my acid reflux/heartburn! I have to make sure to take it every day or it comes right back, but I’m much happier now, lol. The tums were like tossing a bucket of water on a forest fire, lol.
🤣🤣 @1MommyRunner and @lovelee3 I bet I drive y’all nuts with my grammar. I swear I’m a better typist at work, but on here and through texts IDGAF 🤣. I hit submit and reread some of my posts, and see errors galore.🤦🏼♀️ I’ve been meaning to point it out and say sorry to all the grammar nazis out there. My bf was one and I would send her error filled texts all the time just to drive her nuts.
organization: I hung up all of DDs clothes (except bottoms). I used a 6 drawer dresser. 1- socks and bows 2- bottoms 0-6mo 3- bottoms 6mo plus 4- soaps and lotions 5- burp cloths and bibs 6- medicine etc
I also had a chest of drawers that I put blankets in.
And her books went under the nightstand.
Keep in mind you do not need all of this room!!! I got loads of hand-me-downs before DD was born and tons of baby clothes, soaps, etc. And my nesting became extreme, everything needed it’s own place.
Now at 18 mo. she could get by with 3 drawers. And a closet full.... One thing I would definitely do different is, if you are using a closet to hang clothes... do not put away the matching pants/bloomers separately. Instead, hang them with the coordinating dress/shirt.
For new baby, I bought antique dresser with a mirror that is similar to the one DD has for $100 on LetGo. DH is supposed to be painting it.🤦🏼♀️
@mia80 I did not let DD have her wubbanub until she was a month old because I was BF and was worried about the nipple confusion. She had the giraffe and the Mary Meyer chicken.. omg the chicken is the cutest thing ever. She used them but never really got attached. She is a thumb girl. 🤦🏼♀️
Sidenote, I bought my niece what I called a Cat Mermaid... I think it’s actually a Catfish... Head like a cat and body a fish Wubbanub... it was adorably cute!
I just got my call back for the 1hour test... I have to go back next week for the 3 hour test 😪🥴.
@potofgolden haha girl you are good! 😂🥰 I’m sorry you have to do the 3 hour. Just take a blanket or a good book and enjoy some “rest” time! 💜 Praying you pass with all the flying colors!
Well crap... doctor just got back to me and I have gestational diabetes. Now I'm waiting for a referral for a diabetic educator and trying not to google too much.
@mia80 ugh I am sorry!! If you need any additional advice let me know (registered dietitian here). Also we gave DD a pacifier on day 1 (actually my MIL did) but we never did the wubbanubs just a pacifier with nothing attached ( I had a lot of anxiety). I was worried about nipple confusion but we buy NUKs which are suppose to be similar.
@mia80 ugh I’m sorry!! I hope it doesn’t turn out to be too much of a PITA.
@mtengl I also had too much anxiety for the wubanubs...my post-partum anxiety is unreal. I think I’m going to get myself medicated this time because I was full-blown crazy after I had DD. DS never would take a pacifier (a blessing and a curse) and I didn’t give one to DD until she was like 4ish weeks old to avoid nipple confusion. This time I’m leaning towards giving one day one, because I’m not nearly as dead-set on EBF this time around.
So I'm sure I'm a bit out of it, but what is nipple confusion exactly? And should i be worried about it? Maybe all my sisters and SILs are just super relaxed but they've all given their babies (the ones who would take) pacifiers and I've never heard of their babies being confused or having issues🤔 maybe im just out to lunch though and never caught on?😅
@babywiik some people worry that the baby will not latch or breastfeed as well if they have a pacifier aka nipple confusion. I just watched for real cues for hunger though and also my kid was a every 2-3 hours breastfeeding kid. Babies naturally want to suck for comfort too and with DD she would suck forever without drinking anything if I didn’t give her a pacifier
Ahhh! Thanks @mtengl! Sounds like something to keep in mind as a possibility, especially if baby is having troubles with breastfeeding but otherwise I'm going to choose not to stress about it!😜
@babywiik yes, what @mtengl said! I most definitely felt like a human pacifier.
It became a crutch, I would feed DD until she fell asleep, but then DH couldn’t put her to bed so I usually got the task.
@mia80 oh no that sucks. I’m sure you and babe will be okay though, the diet just will be a PITA. Just a reminder, you didn’t do anything wrong and it’s a good thing that they caught it, so you can control it.
Thanks All. I had a mini meltdown last night, but feeling a bit better today (something to the effect that I'm a failure as a woman... couldn't conceive and make a baby in the 'normal' way to begin with and now I'm failing at pregnancy being anemic with diabetes). Feeling marginally better today... just overwhelmed. I've got an appointment with the diabetic education next week, so will be lots of self learning until then.
@mtengl I am so lost with foods right now!!! On the phone today they just said to avoid refined sugars and try to stick to complex/whole grain carbs and will discuss more next week. But of course I don't want to wait until next week to start changing my diet! Am going to pick up my testing stuff after work today and then buy some groceries to have more veggies on hand, hummus, multi grain bread/crackers, sweet potatoes... any other easy food ideas?
@mia80 sorry to hear you have gestational diabetes, I hope diet changes are fairly easy. You are definitely not a failure of a woman. There isn't anything you could do to prevent GD. We're all just different and get different preganancies.
With DD we introduced the pacifier at 2 weeks because she was just crying as we tried everything we could think of to get her to sleep, finally we gave her a pacifier and she calmed down then went to sleep in our arms. With DS we offered a pacifier right away. DD was the one who had BF difficulties not DS 😆. I don't know if there is actually any research behind "nipple confusion" or if it is just a "concern" because it happens rarely. Definitely starting off with offering a pacifier right away with this little one.
DD loved her wubbanub and it was so easy to fade out. She had 4 dragon wubbanubs that she slept with starting at 4 months (one on each side of the crib so she could find them easily at night). When we were fading them out we just cut off the soothie one at a time so she still had her dragons to sleep with. DS never liked the wubbanub's soothie style pacifier. He liked the mam pacifiers but they can easily fall out of the crib so it was a bit annoying.
@mia80 to echo @kelk5, you are not failing! We were all created differently and beautifully. Every woman’s body reacts to pregnancy differently and GD is in no way your fault. You are showing how amazing a mommy you are by caring to make changes that will benefiT your tiny human. You have got this mama! 💜
@kelk5 and @1MommyRunner I know that logically there was nothing I did to cause this... but in the middle of a meltdown / pity party it's all because I am a failure as a woman!!!

@potofgolden I think it might have been Happy Baby. I remember they mentioned marigold being one of the colors, and I wanna say it was this one: https://happybabycarriers.com/products/happy-baby-carrier?variant=30306442248265
@1MommyRunner Congrats on passing! I love your silver lining approach!
@babywiik I finally gave up on the Tums and have started taking Prilosec and it literally got rid of my acid reflux/heartburn! I have to make sure to take it every day or it comes right back, but I’m much happier now, lol. The tums were like tossing a bucket of water on a forest fire, lol.
organization: I hung up all of DDs clothes (except bottoms). I used a 6 drawer dresser. 1- socks and bows
2- bottoms 0-6mo
3- bottoms 6mo plus
4- soaps and lotions
5- burp cloths and bibs
6- medicine etc
DH is supposed to be painting it.🤦🏼♀️
@mia80 oh no that sucks. I’m sure you and babe will be okay though, the diet just will be a PITA. Just a reminder, you didn’t do anything wrong and it’s a good thing that they caught it, so you can control it.
@potofgolden I want a catfish/mermaid!!!! That sounds adorable
