April 2021 Moms

All Due Date Check In Week of 8/24

Stealing this from the March BMB - We can split out into sub groups if/when we get more people but this likely makes sense for now (at least until @bumpadmin makes the April 2021 group visible on mobile - please!) until more people join. P.S. I'm bad at GTKYs so I also stole that from March's post :)

Re: All Due Date Check In Week of 8/24

  • Estimated Due Date/Weeks + Days: EDD 4/28, I'm 5w0d today

FTM/STM/STM+: FTM, so I'm nervous, but also excited

Team Green/Pink/Blue/Finding Out: I want to find out, MH doesn't so we'll see how that goes

Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: an appleseed/lentil, and also apparently a headphone jack

Upcoming appointments: Waiting for the OB's office to schedule and get back to me

How are you feeling?:Physically, I'm exhausted will all the symptoms (yay!). Emotionally/mentally, I am a beginning to allow myself to feel excited, but I am still nervous/anxious.

Rants/Raves: Rave: I'm just so happy to be at 5w today! My rant is that MH apparently can't cook anything for himself so I found myself making him taco meat for the week yesterday and the smell was so gross!

Questions: If I have queasiness this early, should I assume it is going to get worse? Best places to get reasonably priced maternity clothes? My boobs are not really fitting into a lot of my dresses now, and I am SO BLOATED I feel like none of my regular clothes are comfortable/fit.

GTKY: when you were younger, what did you want to be when you grew up? Is it very different from what you’re doing now? I wanted to be a teacher when I was in elementary school. I am a pathologist, so thats pretty different I think.

  • @bbrahmbhatt I get about 8 weeks of morning sickness that peaks exactly in the middle for me. In the past it has started at 6 weeks in earnest and lasted until 14 weeks - worst was around 10 weeks. I cannot recommend B6 supplements enough! Write a note to your doctor but I love that it's just a vitamin. You need to make sure that it's not too much, though. I take about 25mg every 6 hours, I think? I only took one yesterday and haven't taken it again today. There's also more intense ones if it gets bad (I never felt like I needed that).
For cheaper maternity clothes, I recommend H&M. Sometimes Macy's or Motherhood will have good sales. Asos if you have to get more work clothes and clearance stuff at Gap if you can find some (but sometimes they're stupid expensive so you just need to shop around and look for deals/wait for good prices - I suspect there will be some labor day sales).

    Estimated Due Date/Weeks + Days: 4/22, 5w4d

    FTM/STM/STM+: Third time mom

Team Green/Pink/Blue/Finding Out: Team Green! (was with both prior pregnancies)

Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: pencil eraser

    Upcoming appointments: 9/9 @ 7+6

How are you feeling?: blehhh - tired and icky but I know it gets worse so powering through and resting when I can

Rants/Raves: We packed bags b/c of the wildfires in case we had to evacuate last night. It's so smoky, even inside the apartment which sucks. I have an air purifier arriving tomorrow and I. Can't. Wait.

    Questions: None yet

GTKY: when you were younger, what did you want to be when you grew up? Is it very different from what you’re doing now? Haha I posted this and I don't have a great answer. In middle school I wanted to be an interior designer but when I was younger, I wasn't all "I want to be a nurse/doctor/teacher/firefighter" like kids usually are. Princess when I was really little, maybe?

  • Estimated Due Date/Weeks + Days:
6 weeks, 3 days (kinda suspecting a little earlier...)

FTM/STM/STM+: STM, DS is 20 months old, this is my third pregnancy.

Team Green/Pink/Blue/Finding Out: FO. We were team green last time & I loved it. DH has said he wants to know this time, so I’m excited to have both experiences. (Happy with whatever!!)

Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: Sweet Pea

    Upcoming appointments:
I had my blood work done today, waiting to hear. I’m going every Monday/Thursday to make sure my HCG keeps progressing.

    Doctor: 09/09 Ultrasound 09/14

    How are you feeling?:
A bit nervous today. I was very sick with my DS & found it reassuring. I’m not sick yet & I know that can be normal, but I can’t help but to worry.

    Rants/Raves:
Just happy to be pregnant with a sweet baby!

    Questions: None.

GTKY: when you were younger, what did you want to be when you grew up? Is it very different from what you’re doing now?
A Mommy! ❤️ That’s the only thing I was certain about.
    Hubby & Me: Born 1993
    Married: August 2013
    Son: December 2018
Baby in heaven: February 2020, was due Sept

  • Estimated Due Date/Weeks + Days: April 28, 4w5d

FTM/STM/STM+: STM+ - this is my fourth pregnancy, hopefully 3rd baby!

Team Green/Pink/Blue/Finding Out: we'll find out

Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: according to the bump my baby would fit on the edge of a key. Time to break out the maternity pants! :D

    Upcoming appointments: September 14

How are you feeling?: tired, queasy in the evenings.

Rants/Raves: I'm already tired of feeling sick every night. Once we put the girls to bed I hold down the couch until I make myself roll off of it and go to bed. If there's a positive side to that, I'm glad I feel decent enough during the day to do all the momming and talking and breathing and snack fixing and chores that I need to do, haha.

Questions: I'm curious for other moms that have had more than one pregnancy, have you experienced two pregnancies with pretty different symptoms? With my girls I was nauseous 24/7. My PGAL brain wants me to worry about the lack of that particular symptom in this pregnancy. So I'm curious about other's experiences.

GTKY: when you were younger, what did you want to be when you grew up? Is it very different from what you’re doing now? I wanted to be a mom and a teacher! I was a public school, then a private school, 4th grade teacher until DD1 was born. Now I'm a stay at home mom and homeschooling, so I'd say that checks off both boxes! :)

  • Questions: If I have queasiness this early, should I assume it is going to get worse? Best places to get reasonably priced maternity clothes? My boobs are not really fitting into a lot of my dresses now, and I am SO BLOATED I feel like none of my regular clothes are comfortable/fit.

@bbrahmbhatt ah I'm stuck in the quote box! I wouldn't necessarily say your queasiness will get worse! With my girls it was steadily awful from the day of my positive pregnancy test forward. The same level of awfulness until it started to taper off. There's always a chance it could get worse, but it might not! For maternity clothes I like Old Navy. They have a decent selection and they usually have some kind of sale going on. For my previous pregnancies I went to Motherhood Maternity, but they're not super reasonably priced IMO. My mom took me shopping there, haha! Our MM store doesn't exist anymore but they still have a website I think.
  • Estimated Due Date/Weeks + Days: April 20, so 5w+4

    FTM/STM/STM+: Fourth time mom. Eek!

Team Green/Pink/Blue/Finding Out: We were team green for our third and really loved it. I've given away all of our baby stuff though, so it may actually be helpful to find out what this one is. We are undecided still.

Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: an orange seed

Upcoming appointments: Not until Sept 16... feels like forever!

How are you feeling?: Tired, but not nauseous yet. Have a feeling that is coming soon

Rants/Raves: Found a bug in our bagged salad today and nearly puked. So so gross.

    Questions: none

GTKY: when you were younger, what did you want to be when you grew up? Is it very different from what you’re doing now? A hair stylist! Super different from my job in finance, but I have perfected my braids during quarantine!

  • Estimated Due Date/Weeks + Days: 5w0d

    FTM/STM/STM+: STM (hopefully!)

Team Green/Pink/Blue/Finding Out: we will do NIPT again so hopefully we will know in a few weeks

Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: already forgot.

Upcoming appointments: 9/8 private scan, 9/14 first NP appt and scan through my OB’s office. No idea when I get to see the actual OB.

How are you feeling?: Ok. Not awful, not great. Chugging along.

    Rants/Raves: None today!

Questions: how am I supposed to wait another 2+ weeks for a scan? This is torture!

GTKY: when you were younger, what did you want to be when you grew up? Is it very different from what you’re doing now?

I wanted to be a journalist, then a lawyer, then a psychologist. I’m a hospital SLP (though currently not working) so fairly different from all of those but most overlap with psychology.
  • Estimated Due Date/Weeks + Days: Still TBD, but I think April 30, which is 4w2d

    FTM/STM/STM+: Fourth time mama

Team Green/Pink/Blue/Finding Out: Hubby is definitely finding out... I'm on the fence still. Loved being team green with our third but idk if I can handle hubs knowing and me not.

Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of:

Upcoming appointments: dating ultrasound Sept 8th

How are you feeling?: just super tired and an annoying symptom I tend to get is congestion

Rants/Raves: My 4 year old napped today, small wins for a Monday!

    Questions:

GTKY: when you were younger, what did you want to be when you grew up? Is it very different from what you’re doing now? I went back and forth all the time but always wanted to be a mom, now I'm lucky enough to stay home with my kiddos!
  • Estimated Due Date/Weeks + Days:
    Due 4/15
    6w4d

    FTM/STM/STM+:
    STM+
This will be baby #4 (5th pregnancy)

    Team Green/Pink/Blue/Finding Out:
We will definitely find out. We've done the early genetics test every time so we usually know at about 10 weeks.

Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of:
A pea I think? Gotta go dig up a fun app to track sizes - any

    Upcoming appointments:
Still feeling too nervous to call and make my first appointment. I need to just rip off the bandaid and do it.

    How are you feeling?:
    Meh

    Rants/Raves:
    Nada

    Questions:
Anyone experience pregnancy insomnia? Is that a thing? It's usually incredibly easy for me to fall asleep and stay asleep but I swear in the past 2 weeks I've been WIDE awake late into the night and it dawned on me (one night haha) that maybe pregnancy insomnia is a thing!?

    GTKY
At one point I wanted to be a kindergarten teacher...and now I'm doing preschool for 2 out of our 3 kids so basically that's come true, HA! But yea, I was in advertising so way different that what I thought I'd be!
  • Estimated Due Date/Weeks + Days:
    April 23rd - 5+3

    FTM/STM/STM+:
    Hopefully second time mom

    Team Green/Pink/Blue/Finding Out:
Definitely finding out, I hate surprises and we don't have anything for baby at all. I think we'll go for a gender neutral sloth theme for the nursery though.

Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of:
    Apple seed

    Upcoming appointments:
Quantitative HCG today again, ultrasound 9/9 appointment 9/10

    How are you feeling?:
    Nervous, nauseous, bloated, and tired.

    Rants/Raves:
My boobs hurt so much more than they ever have, ouch.

GTKY: when you were younger, what did you want to be when you grew up? Is it very different from what you’re doing now?
I wanted to be an artist when I grew up. I blog and sell Pampered Chef virtually which means I get to be creative, write, take photographs, etc and it's kind of awesome, I'm kind of an artist-ish.
  • @goldpolkadot Make your appointment soon! With the Covid baby boom I feel like OB offices are busy busy and you're close to your 8 week appointment!
  • @goldpolkadot umm pregnancy insomnia is horrible for me with every kid. I can't believe you've had that many pregnancies and this is the first time you have it! I'm legit in the process of ordering blue light filtering glasses to see if that helps. I don't have glasses normally so I'm doing a try on at home thing to find frames I like. I also pulled out my snoogle (C shaped pregnancy pillow).

  • Estimated Due Date/Weeks + Days: 4/23, 5+3

    FTM/STM/STM+: STM

Team Green/Pink/Blue/Finding Out: Probably team green -- we were with my first born so we'll probably do it again.  I want to know, but I have this reluctance to find out.

Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: really tiny

Upcoming appointments: first appointment/scan is 9/14.  It feels like that is forever away

How are you feeling?:  I'm pretty anxious.  Physically I'm very tired and queasy, but no vomiting yet.

Rants/Raves:  My son was just a bear today.  He's been throwing these epic tantrums when he doesn't want to come home from the park.  Today he was rolling around in the gravel, screaming, dropping gravel on his face (??).  I try to let him work it out but I usually just end up forcibly strapping him in the stroller.  I know I was a pretty epic tantrum thrower myself so I guess I'm getting paid back.  Ugh.  Luckily I got a nap in when my husband got home from work.

Questions:  STM+ How do you deal with tantrums?

GTKY: when you were younger, what did you want to be when you grew up? Is it very different from what you’re doing now?  I went through many phases.  Astronaut, fashion designer, marine biologist.  I was a teacher, then school librarian, and am now a PhD student in a public policy program, focusing on education policy.  So pretty different from any of my ideas.

    Team Green/Pink/Blue/Finding Out: Finding Out

Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: a Honey Bee

Upcoming appointments: Sept 2nd for my first U/S. I can't wait!

How are you feeling?: tired and constipated

Rants/Raves: Man my boobs hurt. I can handle all the symptoms, but having a 2 year old constantly climbing on you and smooshing your boobs is rough.

Questions: For you STM+, did you start getting round ligament pain a lot earlier in your second+ pregnancies??

GTKY: when you were younger, what did you want to be when you grew up? Is it very different from what you’re doing now? I wanted to be a marine biologist... very different from what i am now. I'm a marketing & operations manager for a destination marketing organization.

@bbrahmbhatt I second both H&M and Old Navy for maternity clothes. Although, i will say my favorite maternity work pants and plain t's are from Motherhood... they are more expensive, but with my DD, I decided to get a few basics from there and it wasn't too bad. Also, my queasiness stayed pretty much the same with DD and lasted from week 6-12.

@kvh22 glad i'm not the only one pulling out the pregnancy pillow!
  • @cagncoo12 ooh I feel you on the kid smashing your boobs! Our 3 year old loves to sit with me but she can’t get settled near me without elbowing my boobs 12 times. I almost cried yesterday with the way she was hitting me!
  • @kvh22 noooooo! Ugh I was sort of hoping it wasn’t a thing and I was just drinking sips of coffee too late in the day. I tried one of those pillows with my first or second and I just remember getting annoyed with it - like id literally keep scooting further away from it 😂 I found that towards the end I just needed an extra pillow that id kind of tuck under my belly for support. But I do know people who swear by those so 100% on getting it out!!!

@thedomesticgeek I knooooow 🙈🙈 I’m feeling so scared/paranoid like I’m going to jinx things. I also couldn’t remember how many weeks my OB makes you be before coming in, but I think you’re right that it’s 8ish!
  • @cagncoo12 yes, RLP earlier with each pregnancy. It's apparently a thing I looked up last pregnancy b/c they've already been stretched out or something like that. I've had some bad sharp pains already which is earlier than with my last pregnancy.

@kadeephd for tantrums, I either identify her feelings and tell her I'm sorry she's (upset/frustrated/sad) and wouldn't it be fun if we could (keep playing), mommy wants to, too, but i (t's time to go home). That works more and more as they get older. Sometimes it makes her mad and I just let her have her feelings.

  • Estimated Due Date/Weeks + Days: 4/1 ehhh I think 8 weeks and 4days?

    FTM/STM/STM+: FTM :)

Team Green/Pink/Blue/Finding Out: team finding out as soon as humanly possible 😂

Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: raspberry

Upcoming appointments: I just had my first appointment today and was lucky to hear the heartbeat this early!!! It was amazing and my next appointment is in 4 weeks for ultrasound and genetic testing (I can also find out sex with that testing!)

How are you feeling?: Thankful but like absolute 💩

Rants/Raves: Rave: hearing the heartbeat was so surreal and realizing relieving! Rant: oh holy nausea and vomiting... I had noooo clue how hard pregnancy was this early. So clueless....

Questions: had a Pap smear today and having a lot of really uncomfortable cramping! Anyone experience this with their pregnancy this time or a previous time? And is that considered pretty normal or no?

GTKY: when you were younger, what did you want to be when you grew up? Is it very different from what you’re doing now? I’ve always wanted to be a mum but other than that I wanted to be an agricultural scientist and I have no clue why I don’t like farms or vegetables and science isn’t my strong suit and I live near a beach lol
  • Estimated Due Date/Weeks + Days: April 15, 6w4d

    FTM/STM/STM+: 4th time mom

    Team Green/Pink/Blue/Finding Out: Finding out

Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: Battleship peg.

Upcoming appointments: errrmmm, I still haven't had the guts to confess to my OB I'm pregnant again, since my last one is only 7mos

How are you feeling?: almost no symptoms. I hate it.

    Rants/Raves: Nah

    Questions: Negatory

GTKY: when you were younger, what did you want to be when you grew up? Is it very different from what you’re doing now? A writer. I'm good at it, I just hate writing long stuff out. I ended up in IT, sooo way different.
  • @grilledcheeezin congratulations on hearing the heartbeat, that's such an amazing moment!!

@kadeephd I love how varied your career dreams were, and then how many times you've switched careers too. I've done the same thing and I feel like people are always baffled by it. As for tantrums, I sort of just let them play out. If we're at home, I send her off to her room to cool down; if she's done something like hit or scream, once she's cool I remind her that it's okay to be angry/sad/frustrated or whatever, but it's not okay to hit/scream. If we're out in public, I usually just remove her from wherever we are and let her scream her head off in the car. I've discovered after four years of being her mom that I can't even talk to her when she's in the middle of it because it only makes it worse. But every kid is different!

    Estimated Due Date/Weeks + Days: EDD 4/29/ 4+5

    FTM/STM/STM+: STM

    Team Green/Pink/Blue/Finding Out: Finding Out

Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: poppyseed

Upcoming appointments: Oct. 2... truly an eternity away, and only talking to the nurse on the phone.  :/

How are you feeling?: Excited! Nervous. Pretty good, overall.

    Rants/Raves: *TW*
My best friend has had three losses since they began trying last year. I was really dreading telling her my news yesterday on our phone call, just because I want it so bad for her. Well, before I could say anything about my news, she told me that she is pregnant again and her due date is April 25!! We are both not trying to get our hopes up, but last time I was pregnant, me and my other closest friend had our babies within five days of each other so... seriously, what are the odds?! I feel like there's some good energy in the universe here and have all my fingers and toes crossed that this is her rainbow baby!!!!

    Questions: None yet.

GTKY: when you were younger, what did you want to be when you grew up? Is it very different from what you’re doing now?
When I was a kid, I wanted to be a writer, artist, chef or veterinarian. I went to school for graphic design and did that for a few years, then switched gears and went into grant-writing and fundraising, and then became a personal trainer. So... I became an artist and a writer at one point! This pandemic has made me realize I don't really care about my career.
  • @aisukurimsarang due date twins 👊🏻
Battleship peg 😂 What app do you use?
Also, I too haven’t had the guts to call and make my 1st appt 😬
  • Estimated Due Date/Weeks + Days:
    6 weeks today

    FTM/STM/STM+:
    3rd time mom

    Team Green/Pink/Blue/Finding Out:
not 100% sure yet but will probably find out

Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of:
    sweet pea

    Upcoming appointments:
phone intake on 9/9, first US on 10/2.

    How are you feeling?:
Not bad just SO TIRED. I start to get a little nauseous if I wait too long to eat but it hasn’t gotten bad yet.

    Rants/Raves:
I’m boring, nothing to say here right now.

    Questions:
I know we have lots of fourth time moms here...is there a point when the “oh shit what have we done” moments lessen? I am having a lot of those right now.

Also, best full panel comfy stretchy jeans? Mine are pretty worn out, guessing I’m gonna need some new ones this time around.

GTKY: when you were younger, what did you want to be when you grew up?
In third grade I made a book for my parents and one of the questions was what do you want to be when you grow up. My answer: a dancer for R. Kelly. 🤦🏼‍♀️ Pretty sure the teacher probably flagged that one for further attention. I’m an executive assistant now so definitely went in a different direction 🤣
  • @kvh22 I think he may be too young to care if I validate his feelings, but I'll keep doing it and maybe it'll work someday.  Right now I'm mostly in prevention mode, or let him scream mode if prevention mode fails.  It is exhausting though. @riff323 At what age did you start sending your kid to their room?  My mom did this with me a lot and I remember being so mad about it but I always did calm down eventually.

I was complaining to my mom about the tantrums when it's time to leave the park yesterday and she suggested I bring something he likes to bribe him to get back into the stroller.  I brought a can of La Croix today and it worked like a charm!  Bribery for the win  :D

    Pregnancy Ticker
  • @kadeephd tantrums are so hard and not fun. Our two handle them completely differently - when DD1 was a toddler and in the worst phase of her tantrums, if you even looked at her it would make it a million times worse. There was no talking her down from them, or reasoning with her to get her through them. She has always been very sensitive and dramatic and for the sake of everyone, we would just leave her alone during her tantrums because anything else made it worse. If she got really out of hand, I'd stick her in her crib/room and walk away for a minute and she'd stop because I guess the tantrum was no fun for her if she wasn't able to bust my eardrums with it, haha! Honestly ignoring her was the best thing to do.

DD2 is so chill, she might stomp off to her room and then she gets distracted and forgets that she's mad. I rarely even have to help her with her tantrums because she doesn't stay mad for long.

If a tantrum happens in public, I let them know that they either have the choice of calming themselves down, or we'll leave the fun thing and go sit in the car until they're done. We did it once and next time they believed me!
  • @bblair24 this is only my 2nd pregnancy, so I have limited experience but they are SO different already. I had absolutely zero symptoms with DS. I was that obnoxious woman with the pregnancy glow. But this one... I already know I’m in trouble for the rest of my life. ALL of the negative symptoms hit hard starting at 5wks and haven’t stopped. Nausea is actually getting worse. I know it’s damn near impossible not to worry, but I think it’s totally average to have two pregnancies feel totally different and both result in heathy babies.

Estimated Due Date/Weeks + Days: April 11 based off LMP; 7+2

    FTM/STM/STM+: STM

Team Green/Pink/Blue/Finding Out: Team green unless it’s twins (multiples run on both sides of our fam, so we have fairly high odds for that)

Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: a blueberry or uncooked macaroni

Upcoming appointments: tomorrow (8/26) is first appt with new OB, no US scheduled with him. First appt and US with another OB I’m trying out is 9/16.

How are you feeling?: like 💩 I have every negative symptom running rampant and I’m miserable 24/7.

Rants/Raves: DS has gone from being an angel baby to a typical terrible twos and my hormones are making is difficult to keep my patience. He’s so unpredictable- one second he’s smacking me in the face or screaming, then next he’s begging for “uppa” and snuggles. And he’s on a major dad strike. I have to do everything or he is a screaming banshee. But also, I just love that little sh!t so much.

Questions: give me ALL the nausea remedies. I’ve tried meds (like pepto), preggie pops, B6, ginger everything, etc. HALP. 😭

GTKY: when you were younger, what did you want to be when you grew up? Is it very different from what you’re doing now? I did the usual teacher/vet/ballerina/doctor stuff but eventually became a dance teacher, so I think they relate.
    Pregnancy Ticker
  • @mamabee1113 I could have written the exact same rant about my DD! You pretty much verbatim described our current situation. I need to figure out how to end the dad strike, especially at night, it's too much!
  • @cagncoo12 I just need DS to let DH help with anything at this point. He lets him read him one bedtime book, but that’s it. Bedtime has to be with mama, any motn wake ups have to be mama, booboos are only made better by mama. It’s sweet, but it’s so exhausting at the same time!!
    Pregnancy Ticker
  • @mamabee1113 thank you for sharing that - that does make me feel better to hear that someone has experienced pregnancies so differently! I’m sorry to hear that you’re so sick though :(

I saw your question about nausea, and it sucks because it’s so different for everyone! What I found with my previous two when I felt so sick, the only thing that helped was eating something. It seemed so counter-intuitive to eat and I could barely make myself do it once I started to feel so awful. But if I ate something (pretzels were my go to) when I was just starting to feel queasy, I could somewhat beat it. I was teaching them and kept Jolly Ranchers in my desk drawer - keeping candy like that or a mint in my mouth helped too. I also drank caffeine-free soda, usually Coke, to help settle it down. Really all that helped with DD2 was Diclegis. It’s the prescription equivalent of Unisom+B6. I took it for the whole pregnancy.
  • Estimated Due Date/Weeks + Days: April 21; 5 weeks 6 days along

    FTM/STM/STM+: FTM! So nervous.

Team Green/Pink/Blue/Finding Out: We want to find out but have it be a surprise for everyone else!

Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: Baby weighs as much as a grain of rice!

Upcoming appointments: September 8th first check in.

How are you feeling?: Tired and I THINK starting to feel queasy. Having some trouble sleeping.

Rants/Raves: Not really a rant or a rave, but rather constant anxiety. Being a FTM, I'm really struggling with not knowing for sure that everything is going ok. I had some spotting early on and had to go to the doctor to have things checked out. Everything seems to be going well (HCG levels rising fine, no further spotting), but having to wait 2 more weeks to hear the baby's heartbeat to make sure everything is ok is KILLING ME!

Questions: Any suggestions from seasoned mamas for how to get through this anxiety ridden first trimester without going CRAZY would be amazing.

GTKY: when you were younger, what did you want to be when you grew up? Is it very different from what you’re doing now?: I wanted to be on Broadway! Very different from what I do now (I'm a lawyer) but some of the skills transfer lol.
  • @anarmillay92918 I'm a FTM too, and having all the anxiety!  I'm glad to see a few other FTMs on here. I'm waiting until September 21 for my first prenatal visit. It's torture!  I POAS yesterday, and the line is sooo dark, so I feel as reassured as I can be until I get to see/hear that everything is going ok.
  • @anarmillay92918 First tri is hard, especially with bleeding. I know for me, keeping busy and focusing on what I can control (although not obsessing) like working out, finding healthy-ish snacks I can stomach, etc. helps. I will also say that once the morning sickness kicks in, surviving just takes so much energy BUT the symptoms being there is helpful. Depending on your personality type, think through how you deal with stress/anxiety/unknown - for me, that was reading. With my first, I read What to Expect When You're Expecting (which actually isn't very good) and with my second I read Expecting Better. I also read otherwise on my kindle and that helps keep my mind occupied. I know other moms who consider it a badge of honor to have never read a pregnancy or parenting book - it's just not their style. Keeping busy is hard during the pandemic. I had bleeding at 9 weeks last pregnancy - all was fine but it just completely took the wind out of my sails and made it a very stressful pregnancy until I got to 20 weeks.

    Babysizer Cravings Pregnancy Baby Tracker

  • Anyone have a reco for an app for weekly baby tracking? I’ve done a few different ones in the past but surely there’s a new fun awesome one out there...
  • @goldpolkadot I like the ovia pregnancy app.

Yes to whoever asked about RLP... this is my 4th pregnancy (in 5 years... so maybe time makes a difference too?) And I had the unmistakable pain which caused me to take a pregnancy test. Never thought it started that early!
  • @kadeephd I think we started sending DD to her room when she was about 2. I've always used the words "cool down" to describe it to her and as she's gotten older I've even said, "It's not a punishment, it's just to help you calm down." She doesn't seem to mind too much! She might get angry at first, but soon she's playing and laughing and will come downstairs and say, "I'm ready to come down now."

@bblair24 your DD1 sounds a lot like my DD! Super sensitive, very dramatic... sheesh, even as a tiny infant she would scream if a stranger looked at her, which was super fun for me as a hysterical mom.
  • @kadeephd I’m so sorry about the leaving the park struggle. I think our boys are the same age, 20 months. We had a really bad time a few weeks ago - a stranger (a mom as well), offered us a packaged snack to help him. This was on the walk home lol. I had played music, offered the small amount of snack I had left, called Daddy 🤪. Thankfully hubby was off work by then and nearby. I’ve avoided going to the park near suppertime lately (at least alone). Having snacks readily available seems key for survival lol!

I think going to their room to calm down depends on the kid honestly. While he plays independently, my son struggles with being left in his room (he falls asleep on us typically). However, I know my friend’s daughter (about a month older) is Miss Independent and would probably love a break in her room lol. My sister put my niece in her room for quiet calm down time around that age.

  • @riff323 oh man, solidarity for the dramatic daughters! 😂 I know what you mean, ours showed signs of drama as an infant too. And it hasn’t gone away since. She’ll be a super fun teenager! 😜

    8 weeks, 1 day

    FTM/STM/STM+: First time mom!

Team Green/Pink/Blue/Finding Out: Not finding out! Although our families are not happy about that, they really want us to find out, but we're not going to :)

Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: Raspberry, apparently. I thought it was interesting to know he/she already has fingers, toes, lips, a nose, and eyelids!

Upcoming appointments: We had our first ultrasound the week we found out we were pregnant (less than 5 weeks) but we couldn't even see the yolk sac yet, so I'm really excited for our next one on 8/31 because I'll be almost 9 weeks. Hopefully we will be able to see more and maybe even hear a heartbeat!

How are you feeling?: EXHAUSTED. I'm more tired than anything else, but also usually nauseous and no appetite. Lots of aversions.

Rants/Raves: I'm already anxious about COVID and rules for visitors with a newborn baby! It's hard/impossible to get our families to wear masks around us now when I'm pregnant (very frustrating) and I don't think it's going to get any easier when a baby comes. Is anyone else finding it hard to be pregnant during COVID?

    Questions:
    - How did first time moms find their OBs? We just moved to a new area, so I don't really know anyone I can ask and we're also not really telling people outside of our families that we're pregnant.
    - For anyone else having meat aversion, how are you getting protein? I'm eating pb and nuts and broccoli, but I'm still feeling like I'm not getting enough protein.

GTKY: when you were younger, what did you want to be when you grew up? Is it very different from what you’re doing now? Ever since I was really little I wanted to be a lawyer! I ended up graduating from law school and practicing for about 5 years at a big NYC law firm and it was totally soul sucking, so I quit last year and my husband and I started our own business in the wedding industry and it's so much more fun, haha. I love being able to be creative and working for myself!
  • @juliebird6 hahahah omg a dancer for R Kelly  :D
  • @theblondebump I’m vegetarian & some options for you could be beans, lentils tofu, or some of those chickpea pastas that provide extra protein. Greek yogurt & cheese if you can stomach dairy. Dark leafy green veggies should help with iron as well.

Our little babies are good at sucking up all our nutrients 😉. Try not to worry too much about the perfect diet if you really can’t stomach something. All the vegetarian fake meat products grossed me out so much with DS (and might again this time, my sick feeling is just beginning).

  • Thanks @kelseyyh  ! I'm going to have my husband check for chickpea pasta next time he goes to the store. Going to try to make a minestrone soup this week in the instant pot with some beans, that should be good too. Thanks for the suggestions!
