@_orchid_ as of right now, we are in person. We have an optional virtual academy, but as of yesterday morning (and registration closed at midnight last night), only 19 4th graders were enrolled between the two elementary schools, meaning it is VERY unlikely they will send a 4th grade teacher to teach virtually. They can’t afford to pull a teacher because if they do, in person numbers will be at 22-24 per class (we have a massive 800 student elementary school, grades 1-4). It’s seriously insanity.

@gingermama29@chindimples04@_orchid_ (and any other fellow teachers I forgot!), I was just watching the news and there is a district one state over that has decided to begin the year with distance learning. Parents are THREATENING the teachers, telling them that they're going to stalk them and make sure they're not leaving their homes during school hours, following the teachers around town to make sure they're wearing masks, etc. WTF?? I challenge those parents to spend 5 minutes in a school, trying to enforce social distancing and mask-wearing. Nope. We have enough trouble getting them to respect personal space/keeps their hands to themselves when we're not in the middle of a pandemic. I still don't have a teaching job(trying not to panic), so I don't know where I will be or what the plan is. One teacher friend of mine is starting with distance learning, DH is doing distance learning but from his classroom, another friend is doing live instruction but the students are divided into cohorts and will each only go two days a week and will be doing remote learning the rest of the time. Some people need to realize that school as we know it is over for the foreseeable future and no plan is going to make everyone happy. We switched to distance learning last spring with NO warning and NO formal training. Was it perfect? No. Did we do the best we could to be there for our students? Yes. Give us a damn break. We're human beings.
@chindimples04 I'm sorry to hear you are back in person with classes that big! Is it full time or hybrid?
@emeraldduchess wtf @ the people threatening the teachers?? In my area people are angry too and there is so much teacher hate online. Everyone keeps talking about how terrible distance learning was but 2 months ago they were singing it's praises!! This situation is terrible for everyone - I miss my students so much and was crying when they announced we're starting virtual, but it's the best decision. I wish these people would aim their anger at our federal leadership which failed to come up with any response that would make it possible for us to go back. BOEs in my area have announced they are not providing teachers with any PPE bc they don't have the money. My building is 100 years old (with a small addition- it used to be a high school) and is not cleaned well on a good day. Parents routinely give their kids Tylenol when they have a fever and send them to school anyway in a regular year- what's it going to be like this year? Teachers would do much rather go back in person, and if they're telling the public it's not ok to go back, it's not ok to go back. /End rant
@_orchid_ I actually just talked to my HR yesterday. I’ll most likely be in person with an 18 student class and will teach from home on certain days because *TW LC* daycare for DD has been super unreliable (I’m fact, her entire family is COVID positive right now). *TW*
@emeraldduchess I posted this on my FB story the other day. 🙄🙄

@chindimples04 "The three month paid vacation they get every year".... do people.... do people not realize that teachers in most states have to OPT to spread their pay over 12 months to receive pay in the summer (and therefore get smaller monthly take home pay than they would if they only took pay the months they work)? Are people really that dense? Many teachers ALSO work summer jobs to get by. Many teachers tutor. I know SEVERAL who are also lifeguard certified. MOST of the music educators I know also teach private lessons year-round. I'm so sick of the "lazy teacher" narrative. I'm not a teacher, but I've been an undergrad TA, I've been a classroom assistant, my ex fiance is a teacher, his mom is a school librarian, and my mom was a teacher for most of my childhood- I KNOW how taxing it is. I appreciate the hell out of all of you who are trying to balance what's right and safe for you and the kiddos you teach and what the parents, governors, and school boards are dictating to you.
Today was my last day of my second 10 day round of provera. If AF doesn't show by 9/4 I need to go to my ObGyn for labs. I'm on CD 82. I'm so tired y'all.
@ashaislurking girl I feel your pain so much on that obnoxiously long cycle. I had a 100 day long cycle earlier this year and it was the worst! I hope AF gets here quickly so your marathon cycle will finally end. Sending hugs
@_orchid_ there is a mass exodus of staff from the private schools in my area right now. The majority of them have advertised that they're opening for in-person instruction full time, and since there is no teacher's union to protect the teachers, many are walking away. @chindimples04 those memes make me nauseous. Do the people writing those know that their children's teachers are reading that? We read it all. Every word. And I've had to remind several people about *TW* violence*
the hours we spend in active shooter training, learning how to keep these students safe in their classrooms, on field trips, etc. We are literally human shields if all else fails in these situations. I pointed that out to a ranting relative the other day. Shut them up pretty quickly. I didn't want to go there, but they needed to hear it.
@gingermama29 I really hope this cycle will end soon. From what I've read, it's unlikely for a second round of provera alone to work but we'll see. If it doesn't I go in for labs on CD 103. I -really- hope it doesn't come to that because that would likely mean they'd start me on a 21 day course of estrogen with 5 days of provera at the end (making my cycle AT LEAST 124 days long). I just want it to be over. I've never hoped for AF this much before.
@ashaislurking ugh, I can't believe your body is being such a jerk! I hope AF shows her ugly face soon. Has your OB done any labs yet or would 9/4 be the first time? I've had a few crazy long cycles in my life. I wish I had mentioned them to my gyno when they happened, but I was in high school/college and I was too embarrassed. Basically didn't want to answer questions about my (then non-existent) sex life.
@emeraldduchess 9/4 will be my first set of labs. I was in the hospital on 7/31 and they ran beta HCG and did a CT (found a big cyst on my right ovary that was causing my pain) but nothing since then.
@ashaislurking I'm so sorry that your having the Neverending cycle. That is definitely the worst. I really really hope that AF shows up for you soon and that you don't have to go in for labs. " Come on AF, get your shit together and show the F up!" My crystal ball says.. lol
