Re: Newbie Intros w/o 7.20

  • Ages (you and SO): 34 and 39

How many months have you been TTC?: 2 months after 1 MC

What are you doing to get knocked up (WAYDTGKU)?: just trying!

Tell us about yourself! (Kids, pets, job, hobbies, etc.): relocated last year to a new country, started a new job, our house is full of plants and Polaroids. Living on Espresso and yoga!

I am looking forward to be part of the TTC journey with you. My SO and I have just got good jobs, and we don't feel ready to express our desire to get a child, especially after the MC. Everyone keeps telling how lucky I am to NOT have kids so I can focus on my career! Maybe there is here someone with a similar experience?
    Hugs!!

  • Ages (you and SO): me 33, SO 31

How many months have you been TTC?: this is our first month

What are you doing to get knocked up (WAYDTGKU)?: OPKs and sex

Tell us about yourself! (Kids, pets, job, hobbies, etc.):  I'm a PhD student and my husband is a teacher/tech specialist.  We have one son who is a year and a half and a dog.  Our son surprised us since I was attempting to be aware of my cycle (temping, using OPKs) to determine my fertile days but I messed up.  Previously I had been on bcp for about 12 years and I also have PCOS, so thought it might be hard to conceive.  It all worked out and we love our boy.  I was (and am) an active member of D18. I'm looking forward to getting to know some of you ladies!

  • @kadeephd Wow, doing a PhD and getting a second child , 👏 😮 respect! Couldn't handle half of it during my PhD. Nice to meet you 😊
  • Long time lurker, first time poster...

@espressoandplants I'm sorry for your loss. We are also not ready to share with our family and friends that we are TTC. My mom had unexplained infertility for two decades before conceiving so I'm a bit anxious about TTC in general.

@kadeephd You give me hope! I'm currently working on my dissertation and always hoped I would be done before we starting TTC, but I don't want to wait any longer

    Ages (you and SO): 30

How many months have you been TTC?: 2

What are you doing to get knocked up (WAYDTGKU)?: charting, starting OPKs this month, and plain old doin' the thing :)

Tell us about yourself! (Kids, pets, job, hobbies, etc.): We are trying for our first. Since we're not ready to share that we are TTC I've felt kind of lonely in this journey -- I'm hoping this community will help. I'm looking forward to getting to know all of you!
  • @espressoandplants I'm sorry for your loss. Congrats on the new job though!  Honestly I feel like it's easier to have a baby while in a PhD program than while working full-time.  I had my first after 1.5 years and and hoping for my second after year 4.

@fameonmain You can do it! I just started my dissertation and I know I wont be done when this baby arrives if I get pregnant within 6 months.  At least you have flexibility now, and not too much income to give up  :D  Also it took my mom over 10 years and fertility treatment to conceive and I did not have the same experience for my first.  I wouldn't get too worried yet!

@kadeephd @fameonmain thank you both. It happened during the strict lockdown and I did not have to go to the office, so it was easy to keep it for ourselves.
Keep it up with the PhD! It is such a great feeling once you're done! Like you can achieve anything survided that time :D

@fameonmain i also dont want to share our TTC journey with our family and friends. Especially at work I heard often comments on women not being too interested in their career anymore after becoming mothers, what a bunch of generalizations...I am really happy to have found this place!

I am looking forward the end of this week as we will go on holidays AND the TWW will be over. How far are you in the TWW? (Sorry if this is against the community rules, i will edit my post)

  • Hi there! I’m new to the group!

Ages (you and SO): 34(35 less than a month)

How many months have you been TTC?: 13

What are you doing to get knocked up (WAYDTGKU)?:  Timing, Clomid, just starting our infertility work up

Tell us about yourself! (Kids, pets, job, hobbies, etc.): No pets. Husband is an educator and I’m in healthcare. I’m a Peloton addict, and I’ve gotten hubby addicted too!
  • Sorry to have posted and ghosted yesterday! I was having trouble with my account, so I made a new one, but didn't realize there was a waiting period before you could start posting w/ a new account.

@kadeephd thanks! I know that it's not certain that my experience will be the same, but of course I'm still always worrying...

@espressoandplants trying to take advantage of this time to focus and get it done!

@bbrahmbhatt hi! I've been thinking of signing up for the app until I feel more comfortable going back to the gym... I have a spin bike at home, but it's not Peloton. I wonder if it's still worth it?
  • Ages (you and SO): 33 & 31(SO)

How many months have you been TTC?: Just started...so 1 cycle so far

What are you doing to get knocked up (WAYDTGKU)?: Just started OPKs but they’ve confused me! And just doing the deed 🤣

Tell us about yourself! (Kids, pets, job, hobbies, etc.): This would be our first! We’ve been married almost a year but together for 6. We have a dog and a cat. Enjoy the outdoors and working out! Also not telling people we are TTC but excited to have this outlet! Also, after reading through the forum, I don’t know most of the acronyms and I read all the rules but hope I don’t misspeak and break one. So bear with me while I learn! Thank you!
  • @knottie3d27eedc3202c2 I still don’t know all of the acronyms either! We’ll figure it out as we go along :)
  • @knottie3d27eed @fameonmain2 i am soooo confused by all the acronyms too  we may help each other leaning those & trying to stick to all the rules
  • Welcome guys! Feel free to ask if there is an acronym that you aren’t familiar with!

  • Hi everyone! I’ve been lurking a bit and figured what the heck.

    Ages (you and SO): I’m 38, he’s almost 40

How many months have you been TTC?: Well, we started in January, but TW... we had a loss at 16 weeks in April. So maybe 2 consecutive months now?

What are you doing to get knocked up (WAYDTGKU)?: having sex, but haven’t been super gung ho until this month. Using OPKs.

Tell us about yourself! (Kids, pets, job, hobbies, etc.): I’m a SAHM with two boys (3.5 and almost 2). I have two dogs. My hobbies are almost non-existent because kids... oh yeah! I’m way into my Peloton. That’s my hobby.

Ok I can’t figure out how to delete comments... I have an account with an actual name that I’ve used before, and for some reason I can’t post under it. Ugh I’ll try to fix this tomorrow. Sorry, this is way awkward 😂

Welcome @espressoandplants, @kadeephd, @fameonmain2, @bbrahmbhatt, @sienna221, and @Knottie1459779311! I hope you find this community as welcoming and as helpful as I have (only been a member for 3 months and it's been great!). For acronyms, many that are used in this forum specifically are covered in the Ultimate Guide (see Most Common Abbreviations) and many more here. But there are definitely a few more that creep up in conversations so just ask! (Latest one for me was AFM == as for me.)

@espressoandplants what country did you move from > to? Also, I understand where people are coming from when they say "you're lucky to have a good career" but if you want to have kids and you guys feel ready, you might as well start trying. TTC can take time (though I hope for you it won't take too long!) Honestly though, MH and I have felt lucky not having kids during the pandemic especially since we live far from any family who could provide support with childcare. The pandemic has been a blow to working parents, but especially to working moms.

@kadeephd I've always wanted to do a PhD (it's on my list in 5-10 years), so congrats on that journey. Good luck with charting / getting to know your cycle though it sounds like with a PCOS dx another "surprise" would be a good thing! Lots of ladies here with PCOS so we can commiserate.

@fameonmain2 good luck with completing your dissertation! And with TTC.

@bbrahmbhatt Welcome again. GL with the workup. Going through the latter half of that myself now.

@sienna221 what do you find most confusing about OPKs? It took me several cycles to figure it out so happy to answer any questions. I have a rapid LH surge so that in itself is a fun one to figure out.

@Knottie1459779311 hopefully you'll figure out your user name! I had to e-mail TP Support to figure mine out. Haha. They're actually pretty responsive... ~48 hrs.

Ok, I hope this works. I’m the awkward Knottie person above. It’s so weird! On the app, I was totally signed in with my username, but it posted under an account that I never really used before. Guess I have to use the browser version.
  • @acleverusername thanks for the welcome! I think I’m starting to figure them out. I posted in the OPK help thread too. My original confusion was because I was receiving so many days of high fertility (flashing smiley) on the CB digital OPK - I think I had 6 days - and the Pregmate OPKs I was using as a “second opinion” were all negative. But I finally had a peak fertility (solid smiley) on the CB and positive Pregmate OPK. The peak didn’t come until CD22 so I was confused the OPKs either weren’t working or I missed ovulation. Who knows...but looks like I finally caught it. My SO and I were able to have sex on the night I first saw the peak but then he was out of town the next day when my LH reading was 157% on the Pregmate. So we’ll see...
  • @sienna221 glad you figured it out. I use back-up OPKs too. Haha. Can never be too certain! You might also find this article an informative read. It really helped me understand how different types of OPKs work and how to use them.

  • Hello everyone :)

I am new here, clearly haha.

I am 31 and my husband is 34.

How many months have you been TTC?: We've been "trying" for over a year but that was just doing the thing unprotected and hoping for the best.

What are you doing to get knocked up (WAYDTGKU)?:  Doing the deed, taking temperature, OPK's, taking ovulation inducing vitamins (probably a myth), three cycle tracking apps and my own journal.

Tell us about yourself! (Kids, pets, job, hobbies, etc.): We have two cats. My husband works in Education and I'm a counsellor. We don't have any kids, we are trying for our first. We are avid traveller's and due to the current state of the world, we decided to get fully into TTC since we won't be travelling for a while.
  • Hi @ambzsp and welcome! I've only been here for a couple of months, but it is such a great community! Feel free to start connecting on the daily threads! What has been your favorite travel destination?
  • @ambzsp hello and welcome. This community is great here and you will love it! Me and my DH are avid travelers too and it's been so hard not to be able to go anywhere during covid. I'm itching to travel again and cant wait till this is all over with. I hope your stay is short here.
