Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: Baby could fit on a Reese's cup!
Upcoming appointments: Not until next Tuesday for my 13 week appointment
How are you feeling?: Starting to feel not as nauseous all day, but it's still there, especially at night, if I'm not snacking every 2 hours. Not having to nap every day for 2 hours is fading too, even though I enjoyed that! Exhaustion is still there, but probably because I'm chasing my almost 3 year old around all day.
Rants/Raves: I'm leaving for a 4 day mini vacation with my DH today! Dropping my son off at my in-laws. It'll be like a babymoon, I guess?
    Questions: None ATM
GTKY (stolen from January BMB): What was your favorite trip/vacation you ever took and what's one destination you really want to go to? I loooooove Aruba- used to go every Thanksgiving when growing up. I'd really love to go to London or Greece- those are my two "bucket list" travel trips.

Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: a plum!

Upcoming appointments: not until Aug 21 and just for a 1 hr glucose test

How are you feeling?: Still like crap. I'm still barfing every day even with the promethazine. Still hopeful it will get better this month!

Rants/Raves: my sweet hub got me a surprise first tri gift. We are not doing push presents but I've been so sick he thought it would cheer me up. I am very much for first tri gifts and would like to officially make it a thing. He's been so amazing while I've been sick.

Questions: does anyone else have an absurd amount of plegm in the back of their throat? If so I'm v open to remedies.

GTKY (stolen from January BMB): What was your favorite trip/vacation you ever took and what's one destination you really want to go to? We had a really awesome time at the hard rock in punta Cana. We've been really wanting to take another cruise but obviously we're going to have to wait until a covid vaccine is widely available.

Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: a plum
Upcoming appointments:  Nuchal translucency US in like 2 hours. 3 hour glucose on Saturday
How are you feeling?:  Felt great yesterday. Feel like crap today
Rants/Raves: I’m tired of being sick and tired.
Questions:  none that I can think of
GTKY (stolen from January BMB): What was your favorite trip/vacation you ever took and what's one destination you really want to go to?  We don’t travel a lot but we went to Ireland on our honeymoon and we loved it. We were supposed to go somewhere for our anniversary this year but obviously that won’t be happening.  My bucket list is to see the northern lights.

@tamalahoops during pregnancy your body produces extra mucus. Probably the reason for your phlegm. I am always permanently stuffy during pregnancy and then it goes away right after birth.

Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: According to the bump app, a lime. Guessing a small lime.
Upcoming appointments: August 6.  I'll have an ultrasound and have blood drawn for NIPT.
How are you feeling?: I actually felt a little better yesterday. My sister said that it was like a switch flipped at the 12 week mark. REALLY hoping for that switch flip soon!
Rants/Raves: I had a FIVE HOUR zoom call yesterday for work (it was scheduled for 1 hour), not my ideal Sunday.
Questions: I don't have anything right now.
GTKY (stolen from January BMB): What was your favorite trip/vacation you ever took and what's one destination you really want to go to? Last year my sister got married on a little island in Italy called Ponza (about a 2 hour ferry ride from a small town about an hour train ride north of Naples). We did a week in Croatia, 4 days of which were spent sailing the islands off of Dubrovnik, and then a week in Ponza (it's only about an hour flight from Dubrovnik to Naples). It was such an amazing trip! Right now I am so craving a beach vacation. We had to cancel a trip to Mexico and one to Hawaii at the beginning of quarantine, and as much as I love the mountains, I just want to feel that fresh sea air, it really doesn't matter where!

@tamalahoops I have phlem! I don't have any cures for getting rid of it though, I'll follow along to see if anyone else does!
  • @birdiejo not gonna lie, I had to Google what profiterole was! 😆

Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: a lemon, a jalapeño, a macaron, a matchbox car, and a clownfish (hi, Nemo!)
Upcoming appointments: N/A, probably won't see my doctor again until the 18w anatomy scan?
How are you feeling?: Still tired, but I can get through the day without a nap now! The nausea has mostly abated, but I still have strong cravings and aversions.
Rants/Raves: I AM HUGE, WHY AM I SO HUGE? Seriously, people I don't know ask if I'm pregnant when I'm at the beach. How is it possible to have a bump at 13w this time around?
    Questions: N/A
GTKY: My favorite trip ever was 6 years ago, to Nepal and India. My husband and I spent a couple of weeks traveling around northern and northwestern India, then flew to Kathmandu and backpacked in the Himalaya for a couple of weeks. We wanted to take a trip before getting pregnant that we knew we'd probably never take with very small children, and it was definitely that! We haven't taken a big international trip since, so we had planned to take our 4yo to Japan for 5 weeks this summer, but... of course that couldn't happen this year. Oof.

    Upcoming appointments:
    Thursday

    How are you feeling?:
The all day nausea has mostly gone away to be replaced by, “Oh I’m going to throw up right.now.” So hopefully things are getting better as I move towards second trimester.

    Rants/Raves:
MH flew out yesterday for his remote work location and we leave next Saturday to drive to the east coast to see him and both of our families while he’s there for two months. And we got into an epic fight last night because he was supposed to stay in an empty house his family owns to start his quarantine for the next week while he picks up the camper he will be staying in for the rest of the trip. He decided at the last minute to stay at his parents house instead and got mad when I pointed out that they haven’t been taking precautions lately; they went shopping at the outlets Saturday and out to dinner on Friday and we don’t even know what else, plus his mom works home health. Anyway he got mad and said something really mean so I told him to have a good night and I loved him and hung up. Not the way I wanted to start the next two months. But now I’m worried about even visiting them in August and September since I’m pregnant, high risk and just really don’t want to get sick right now, plus I have two other kids.

    Questions:
    Nope

GTKY (stolen from January BMB): What was your favorite trip/vacation you ever took and what's one destination you really want to go to?
The Isle of Skye in Scotland after MH had been gone on an extended work trip. We found a little apartment for rent and a tiny grocery store and a pizza joint. It was the best three days of our driving tour of Scotland and one of my favorite places we’ve ever been.
  • I'll find out on Friday how far along I am!

I am a second time Mommy.

I am having terrible back pain. My pain level was a nine last Monday and is currently a seven. I've been to the chiropractor 3 times since last Wednesday. My back pain is still affecting my daily activities and routine. My hips were misaligned and the chiro said something about the SI joint and tight muscles that I need to stretch.

Last pregnancy I developed carpal tunnel and preeclampsia and I'm curious if I'm likely to have those again with this pregnancy.

GTKY (stolen from January BMB): What was your favorite trip/vacation you ever took and what's one destination you really want to go to? My honeymoon! Somewhere beautiful and secluded.

@moguippy how did your nuchal appt go?!
  • @s_montgomery it went well! Everything looked good, we’ll just wait for the bloodwork which takes about a week.
  • How far along are you? (Weeks + Days): 11 + 1

Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: Baby app says a lime! But that seems big to me.. maybe a key lime!

Upcoming appointments: Blood work tomorrow... have to decide on genetic testing... Pretty sure I've made my decision. Probably. Maybe.

How are you feeling?: I feel really good! Very thankful to have only had one week of MS/nausea. I have had a headache for a few weeks but nothing killer.

Rants/Raves: Mmmmm it's hard to want advice but also be annoyed by unsolicited advice 🤣

Questions: Anybody else struggle with with stress of not yet "feeling" pregnant? I want an ultrasound like every day to make me feel better!

GTKY (stolen from January BMB): What was your favorite trip/vacation you ever took and what's one destination you really want to go to? Hmmm favorite trip ever, probably a week long Europe trip I took a few years ago. Hit a bunch of countries for a night or two. Amazing!  Someday I have GOT to go to Alaska. Dream trip!
  • @mdfarmchick haha Tamagotchi  I love that! 😍

Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: size of a lime

    Upcoming appointments: End of August

How are you feeling?: Really sick. I projectiled last night so bad that we literally need to repaint the bathroom wall...ugh.

Rants/Raves: I had an appointment today **TW** the midwife couldn't find the heartbeat with the doppler, she said maybe it was a faulty doppler and went to get another one, she still couldn't find the heartbeat. I was panicking, all alone (because no support person since COVID), she went to get the ultrasound machine and it wouldn't turn on. I had to wait for almost two hours, thinking I had miscarried, waiting for another ultrasound machine and tech. Once I got the ultrasound it turns out the baby is okay and everything was fine but that was traumatic. Particularly after I had a MC with my last pregnancy. It's been a rough 24 hours.

    Questions:
GTKY (stolen from January BMB): What was your favorite trip/vacation you ever took and what's one destination you really want to go to? My favorite was our honeymoon in a glass bungalow in the Costa Rican jungle...so amazing. Most looking forward to a girls trip, I haven't seen my friends in forever since COVID and I could really use some girl time.

Upcoming appointments: next Tuesday for 14 week check

How are you feeling?: nausea and exhaustion are still so bad and I thought it would get better by now. Insomnia has been awful for a few weeks now :(

Rants/Raves: my husband has been a champ with the fact that I’m eating the weirdest things and avoiding meat. On our date night I ordered French fries and he got a nice steak dinner hahaha

Questions: Has anyone felt flutters? I swear I could today but I didn’t feel my son until closer to 16 weeks.

GTKY (stolen from January BMB): What was your favorite trip/vacation you ever took and what's one destination you really want to go to? Aruba hands down! The people are great, weather is perfect and drinks are cold. We were supposed to go back for our 5 year wedding anniversary, but it is in March and I don’t want to go to another country and leave our 6 week old baby behind.

    Cardinal Tetra Fish

    Upcoming appointments:
Met the genetic counselor yesterday and did NIPT bloodwork. Virtual consult with a midwife today as I have decided to look into other options for my provider and delivery location. Acupuncture tomorrow.

How are you feeling?:All day nausea and fatigue is lessening a bit. Back pain is worsening.

Rants/Raves: My hospital has a lot of policies I don’t agree with. How do they expect women’s bodies to do one of the hardest longest physical activities of their lives without energy to sustain them! The OB even says she doesn’t agree with a no solid food policy but that anesthesia forces it. Why are we planning for me to have a c-section? Can’t we start with assuming my body can and will do what it should? Medical literature doesn’t even support the idea of needing to avoid solid foods to avoid aspiration during general anesthesia which they rarely use during c-section anyway!

Questions: Will the nausea EVER go away?!?!

GTKY (stolen from January BMB): What was your favorite trip/vacation you ever took and what's one destination you really want to go to? Hard to pick! Tanzania, Australia, and The Grand Canyon/Havasupai were all amazing trips. Brazil and Nepal are both high on my next trip list!
  • @manditchka24 my hospital is the same way ugh! I was induced and I was so nervous the morning I had to go in that I literally ate 1 scrambled egg and then my induction took forever. I was STARVING by the time my son was born. I told my husband that this time we are stopping at a drive thru on the way to the hospital
  • My hospital has the same policy. When my DS was born, we got to the hospital around 2am, by 8am I was hungry but told my H to go get himself breakfast downstairs since he should at least be able to eat. I told him just to please eat it down there since all I could have were ice chips. So this man went downstairs, had a full breakfast and then brought a chocolate croissant up to my room and ate it in front of me. He will NEVER live that down. Then right after I give birth, literally still in the birthing room I looked at the OB and told her I needed to eat. By the time I got to the recovery room there was a lunch plate waiting for me and it was the best damn grilled chicken I ever ate.

@cmoon3 it was horrendous but thank god ended well.

@babymamadimo I would have sworn up and down I felt flutters the other day...but it was gas. Kept fooling me, kept farting  :D

@manditchka24 the ability to eat sometimes is up to the attending OB and not an actual hospital policy so if you still want a hospital birth you may be able to find a care provider that practices more evidence based policies like allowing you to eat. I birthed with a midwife at a hospital for my first and it was a great experience. The midwives had a TON more latitude for my birthing experience than any of the OBs allowed (I could eat, I birthed on my knees instead of my back, I moved around the room during labor, I was never left alone b/c the midwife and Doula were there the whole time with me and my husband, I didn't have to get a IV line placed, etc.). Now, a lot of those were only possible since I didn't have an epidural so there was no anesthesiologist to have a say in the matter.
  • @moguippy he's a monster 😳
I was induced with my first and the doctor specifically said to have dinner before arriving that evening (but nothing too heavy). I had Panera and it was delightful. With my second I went into labor in the middle of the night and everything was so fast the thought of food didn't cross my mind... Until a little after she was born and I think I ate everything out of their overnight fridge because the kitchen was closed 😂
  • 13+2 today
I did something to my upper ab muscles, they hurt!!! Likely something from tossing and turning all night

I got takeout with the kids last night and we had a picnic in the yard... Zero kitchen cleanup

We had a really fun kid free vacation in AZ at the end of February!!! It was sooooooooo relaxing to be able to go with the flow and only need to keep myself organized. Plus the desert was gorgeous.
  • @manditchka24 with my first, my water broke at 4 AM and my daughter was born at 5 PM. I was SO hungry.

So then when I was pregnant with my son , like all I could think about was how the food at the hospital was going to work. Would they give me food at any time of night? What if they didn’t? What fast food options were available motn that my husband could drive to? What snacks should we bring? Anyway. I went into labor at midnight and he was out less than three hours later so hunger wasn’t a concern and I had a lovely breakfast once we got to the recovery room.

  • @moguippy with my daughter, my OB called after we finished eating dinner on Friday to go to the hospital to be induced b/c of preeclampsia. After I was checked in, I asked to take a shower before getting pitocin started and I was so glad I did! I was told not to eat during labor, which was from 9pm until 10am for me. The nurse assured me that my IV was giving me all the nutrients I needed. My husband ate right in front of me during labor and I haven't let that go, either. After I had my baby, the nurse told me I couldn't eat until 24hrs after delivery because of the magnesium drip!
So first time moms, bringing snacks for you and your birthing partner is a good idea. Because of the mag drip, I had to stay on the delivery bed (really it's more like a table) until 24 hrs after delivery and I was told I couldn't be left alone with my baby until I was off the drip and cleared. Because of my preeclampsia we were in the hospital for 6 days. We weren't prepared.
  • Thank you all for sharing your experiences! The hospital I am having my prenatal care at so far is where I work, so I am very familiar with the red tape policies that don’t always have patients best interests in mind. It is ranked as one of the best hospitals in the country and is great at some things (hand transplants, face transplants, penile transplants!!!) and then others it feels so far behind the evidence bc of red tape. I don’t have a say in who the attending OB will be, bc it will just be whoever is there when I go into labor. I also expressed that I don’t want an epidural and was told that “anesthesia will come talk to you anyway”. I just don’t get the idea that they are supportive of personal preferences in general.

Because my insurance is through my employer it costs me more to give birth elsewhere but I am starting to look into other options in my area. There is one hospital with a well known midwife practice that I am going to check out but even their website says they have policies I don’t love (they take your baby to the nursery for a few hours for “observation” for example and also state a no food policy).

I think my ideal birthplace would be a birthing center attached to a hospital but they don’t exist in my area (actually there is only one birthing center and multiple people have told me to avoid it), so I am also checking out home birth midwives as another option.
  • @s_montgomery same with the shower!  We had dinner, went to some fireworks and it was like 90degrees out, so being very pregnant I was all hot and gross, but I was sooo tired I was like, I’m just gonna go to bed and shower in the morning. Sure enough my water broke just after midnight. I had my H call the OB while I took a shower. There was NO WAY I was having a baby while feeling so gross. DS was born around lunch time the next day so it wasn’t even a full 24 hours without food and I know some people have it worse but I was so hungry!  I didn’t have a magnesium drip so at least I could eat right away. I can’t imagine not eating for a whole day after!
  • @manditchka24 the few hours in the nursery might be for newborn testing. With both my girls I believe they took them for hearing tests and then once awake/hungry brought them back. So while yes it's time away, they were sleeping in the bassinet the whole time 🤷🏻‍♀️
  • KLS123KLS123 member
@manditchka24 I would LOVE a birthing center attached to a hospital but that's not available in my city either. There are a few freestanding birth centers but all of them are on the outskirts of town and not feasible for me to get out to while in labor. I'm also considering a home birth mainly due to new hospital policies regarding COVID since I won't be allowed a doula....still weighing all my options. I hope you can find somewhere that supports your birth wishes, it's so important to be on the same page with your care providers! Also re: no epidural - we did a Bradley Method birthing class before my drug free delivery of my DS and highly recommend it.
  • @manditchka24 I’m not down with them taking the baby either. My last two births were at “baby friendly” hospitals so they bring all the stuff to you. I would definitely discuss that because they should let you keep your baby in room.
  • The nurses tending to me and my daughter after my delivery insisted on me putting my baby in the nursery so I could rest, and I legitimately feared they were not going to bring her back until my BP was regulated haha so even though I knew I didn't have to, I agreed to put her in but called every two hours on the minute for them to bring her back to me so I could feed her. I was really paranoid. And I would not have liked it if they took her for a couple hours to monitor her after birth.
  • Well I ended up with a 76 hour induction with my second and I do not regret sending him to the nursery once I had him so I could get a little sleep. I know my situation is not the normal, but there are times you may be grateful for someone watching the baby for you for a bit. My OB did make an exception and let me eat for the first 48 hours a little and I was allowed juices and broths the rest of the delivery. But I also picked my OB knowing he would only do a c section if I asked or if it was an emergency, and knowing that he attends all of his births personally.

How are you feeling?: semi nauseous but not awful. my prescribed medicine ran out and I am trying not to refill it because it was SOOO expensive for one month, so I'm just doing the b6 unisom combo and it isn't working quite as well so fingers crossed. I am also still worn out all the time. Also, I have zero motivation to do anything in the bedroom ever and my hubby is not appreciating that aspect. BLAH

Rants/Raves: Nothing really. Just chugging along. haha
i could rant about my in laws and their two impromptu visits within less than a week and the annoyance that is their demeanor but honestly i'm too lazy to type it all out!

    Questions:Nothing really!

I'm not a huge traveler. I like to go to the beach. we went on a cruise to the bahamas and that was fun. I don't know if I would do a cruise again though, especially with littler kids. I would LOVE to go to hawaii someday.

Woah! What were the circumstances around your 76 hour labor?! I always thought second babies + came faster. 😱

ETA: @PinkKathryn12 happy second trimester! 🥳
  • @s_montgomery oh he absolutely came faster. I went from a 5 to a head in 35 minutes. 😆 But my water broke and I wasn’t dialated at all so it took a long time to get to a 5. The first 12 hours was a cervical ripening agent and then we went from there. It took 73ish hours to get me to a 3, and I went from a 3 to a five in 2.5 hours.
  • I can't imagine waiting days to get to a 3. I'm glad your doctor allowed you to eat a little; I can't imagine being in labor so long.
  • How far along are you? (Weeks + Days): 12+3
    FTM/STM/STM+: FTM
Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: A Plum, according to Google
Upcoming appointments: My next OB appt is 8/3.  They sent the referral in to the MFM provider I wanted to see but I'm waiting to hear from them to set up an appointment time.
How are you feeling?: Lightheaded spell over the weekend. Super hungry if I don't snack. I also had terrible cramps today, but no blood. My stomach was also upset this morning so I don't know if it didn't like something I ate yesterday or what.
    Rants/Raves:
Rant: The MFM clinic who shall not be named didn't cancel my appointment after I called and told them to last week. So I called them again yesterday and the scheduling lady was a huge B about it.
Rave: My boss and her secretary are super sweet. My boss came by my office today to check and see how everything was going and her secretary gave me some tips on the consignment shops that she uses and now I'm over here scrolling through pages of maternity clothes trying to decide how much I'm willing to spend right now, lol.
Questions: Any tips for reaching low places? I've pretty much decided that leaning over, squatting, kneeling, and sitting on the floor all suck. I'm about to completely re-arrange my filing cabinets at work so that I never have to get in the bottom row.
GTKY (stolen from January BMB): What was your favorite trip/vacation you ever took and what's one destination you really want to go to? When I was in college my entire internship was essentially one big trip around the Eastern half of the US, plus 2-week stint in Tokyo, Japan and Thailand (mostly Bangkok).  I'd love to visit NZ one day. DH & I are both huge nerds and the scenery they filmed in the 2000s Tolkien movies was just gorgeous.
    Me: 34 | DH: 46
    SD: 21 & SS: 17
