Yeah usually with high lipase if you don’t use it right away, the enzymatic reaction increases which gives it the soapy flavor. I had to scald mine before freezing and it wouldn’t turn soapy. Hoping I don’t have to again because it was annoying.

  • Late to the game!

@anitamargarita_82 fingers crossed you get results fast and everything checks out!

I felt movement so late with my first, around 19 weeks. I started feeling this one at 16! I'd say for the past 2 weeks I've been feeling her everyday, and H has been able to feel from the outside too which he definitely didn't feel with my son until maybe 22 weeks? I have an anterior placenta again so I'm really glad this one is so active.

@peanutorcookie I have a lot of opinions about this one😄 I have been working from home for 4 years. We had planned for me to do a month or so working+watching baby. But then we found a nanny who could start sooner than expected. I ended up doing 3 days of working+baby...hated it. I felt like I wasn't giving 💯 to either. I know it highly depends on the baby and on the job. I have video calls quite often,4-5x week, and need quote a bit of concentration for my job. My baby was never one who would be content for hours in the same spot. It was a constantly rotating every 20 minutes...then diapers, poop explosions, cluster feeding sessions...it was so so stressful. He is obviously a toddler and a bag of energy now so my H and I can only work with him on occasion when our nanny is sick or on vacation. My job is very understanding and flexible but I just couldn't do it. Plus unless your baby is like clockwork with naps (mine is an excellent sleeper and yet he wasn't reliable with naps until 6-7 months) you can't always count on those.

Obviously this is just my experience! A friend of mine has been working from home AND watching her baby this whole time and he is 16 months now...I don't know how she does it...but they wanted to save $$ on childcare, so I guess she made it work. If you are able to get help, I would absolutely go for it, even for a few hours. For me, it's always worth the extra $$ to avoid unnecessary stress and be able to focus/get things done around the house without my son in the way all the time :)

  • Question for a third time mom, recommendations on double strollers? I was thinking of doing a single with a skateboard attachment but DD is asking for an actual seat.
  • Any suggestions for books on baby’s 1st year that helped you? I’m seeing a lot that are more about parenting philosophies or just general advice books. I’m really looking for books that get into the nitty gritty details of how to actually care for a baby (how to bathe your baby, what should you look for if you think your baby’s sick).
  • @ccstlln1 a STM friend of mine gifted me a copy of What to Expect the First Year. I've just barely started it, but she said it was her savior when her first was born.
  • Any thoughts on whether a newborn bouncy swing is worth getting? I cant figure out if itll be super useful or just another thing they grow out of in 9 months...
  • KurtniKurtni member
@ccstlln1 agree with @peanutorcookie that WTE the first year is good for the actual mechanics of infant care.

@aefsparrow A newborn bouncy swing? Im not sure what that is. My regular baby swing was a lifesaver and worth it even though they outgrow it fairly quickly. Fisher Price makeA a bouncy seat now that transitions into toddler rocking chair which may be a good option if you’re looking for something to use long term.

  • @aefsparrow if you’re looking for something newborn and early infant related the Mamaroo from 4 Moms is awesome!
  • @aefsparrow I strongly recommend the baby Bjorn bouncer. It's very ergonomic and baby's movement makes it move. It's expensive, $200, but I found it on Craigslist for $40 in perfect condition!
  • Regarding books, WTE is just ok. I liked Baby 411, it was helpful as a guideline for fevers and colds and general ailments. I recommend getting the Wonder Weeks app, it lists all the developmental milestones of the first year as well as the "leaps" which are times in which the baby's brain is in overdrive from learning and developing. Very helpful to understand their fussiness sometimes!!
  • @ccstlln1 I second Wonder Weeks!!!!! WTE the First Year worked fine as a reference guide for us; I didn’t sit and read it from front cover to back. If you can find a birth class that includes newborn care, do that. Hands-on (in the case of my class, with dolls) was more beneficial for me and my husband than reading a book, even if it didn’t cover the breadth of topics that a book can.

@aefsparrow Here’s a dissenting vote against mamaroo. I knew several people who raved about it. My kid hated it, and when he was little I didn’t feel like it was very safe. We ditched it and are debating between a swing or a bouncer. I know some people (My mother, for one) would say they are a waste of money because they’re used for such a short time, but if you need your hands free for a moment to save your sanity, I say it’s worth it. If you think you might have more kids and have a place to store it, even better. You could always try OfferUp or a children’s consignment store if you don’t want to pay full price. Consignment stores may not be open in your area yet but we have some stores by us that are “closed” but selling via email or OfferUp for curbside pickup.
  • @aefsparrow we inherited a swing and purchased a fisher price bouncy seat and used both of them a TON in the first 6 months. Yes, they grow out of it, but having a hands free option was the best. She often laid in the swing while we are dinner. DH would bounce her in the bouncy seat to sleep so I could sneak off to shower after finishing before bed nursing. FFSC--he often bounced it with his foot while he played video games. I didn't care. It put her to sleep and I got a break!
  • I have a STM question! Anyone have a linea nigra show up with one pregnancy and not another? Mine was pretty dark last time and I'm 95% positive it was present by now. This time nothing. Not a big deal but does have me wondering what's up.
  • Thus far no LN for me.
    Current pregnancy -
First BFP on 1/4/22.  Due date 9/13/22.

Four prior losses, no living children - 1 first trimester miscarriage, 1 blighted ovum, 1 chemical, and one extreme premature live birth daughter who died at 15 days old.

  • @carrotsandpeas3 omg mine lasted A YEAR after birth!!! I honestly don't remember when it showed up, but so far I don't have one
  • KurtniKurtni member
@carrotsandpeas3 oh my gosh I hope so... I’ve never had one before and really want one. They make the best black and white bump pictures 😅

@carrotsandpeas3  I don't have a linea nigra yet, but I didn't notice one until later in my last pregnancy.  I can't remember exactly when I noticed it, but I think that it was closer to 24 weeks.
    Pregnancy Ticker
  • I never got one with my first pregnancy and even the nurse mentioned it at my delivery. I didn’t even know it was something that happened.
  • I never got the LN it stretch marks with my DD.  My belly definitely looked like I’d had a baby but neither appeared for me the first time.  Hoping I’m that lucky this go round.  Although this pregnancy has been vastly different than my first.   Everything is 180 the other direction.
  • Rena21Rena21 member
@aefspareow @baseballismyfavoriteseason I couldn’t agree more. Definitely see if there are community buy/resell groups where you can get something gently used but for cheaper- especially if you’ve got your heart set on a mamaroo. We had a bouncer and my kid haaaaated it. We were never able to have our “hands free”. So personally I wouldn’t rush to get anything pricy. I’m debating between another bouncer or swing for #2 (our first bouncer was recalled). I’m hoping #2 will be more chill.
  • Any suggestions on double strollers? DD will be almost 3 when this one is born. I didn't wear DD much but this time around I intend to wear the baby and have DD walk/stroller/cart for a while, but looking for options on good strollers for walks and stuff when baby gets a bit older. I know side by side strollers can be bulky, but I think I'd like to get one for walks or stuff like zoo trips.

@MJDsquared I’m getting a baby jogger citymini double. It’s side by side but one of the more compact one, fits through most doorways. Super easy to push and steer with different weight kids. I also like the big storage basket, seats recline nearly flat and sunshades.

  • @kurtni ohhh, that one looks good! Thank you! I asked DH's cousin for a recommendation and she said the baby jogger city select but it's like double the price of the city mini 😬 plus I don't see myself using one of the "stacked" double strollers much.

  • Sorry if this has been asked before but does anyone have any opinion on a good baby wrap? The brands I’m specifically looking at are Solly, Happy Baby, and Tuck and Bundle

  • Ok for those of you who have gone into labor with more than one baby (not at a time, lol): did they come at approximately the same time? My siblings and I were all exactly a week early. My husband and his siblings were all over the map, early, late, right on time. I know it can vary and not to count on anything, I would just like to hear anecdotes. Our first was born at 37w2d so I’m curious when the second will make his appearance!
  • @profmcgonagall I had a Solly and liked it, but my favorite was the Moby for soft wraps. I also loved having a SSC (soft structured carrier) for once they’re a little bigger.
  • @profmcgonagall I loved my Solly for all 3 of my kids! Any of those options would be good for a little baby. Once they get to be heavier (maybe 15-20 lbs) those will kill your shoulders and you'll probably want to switch to a woven wrap or SSC (if you still want to wear).
  • Thank you! I do have a lillebaby that I loved with DS but am interested in trying out a wrap for the tiny baby stage

  • @baseballismyfavoriteseason I’m wondering this too. My son came at 37w1d so I’m curious if this one will be early too. I asked my midwife and she said some women do tend to always have babies early, but for other women it is just random. I’m all in for a surprise, but I can’t help but wonder... I have to say that it was nice to never get to the big, uncomfortable pregnant stage last time and my son was 6lbs7oz so it’s not like he was itty bitty coming early.
  • @westslopemama Mine was 6lbs13oz and he felt TINY to us, because we are used to 8-9lb babies in our family. 🤣 But afterwards I was so glad I didn’t have to push another 2lbs+ out. 🤪
  • @baseballismyfavoriteseason I was definitely glad he was that size because after 4 hrs 15 mins of pushing him out, I don’t know what I would have went through if he had been any bigger!!
  • @westslopemama SAME! Mine was somewhere between 3 and 4 hours! 😩
  • My sister and I were both 2 weeks late but while she was still just 6lb9oz I was 9lb 6oz...lol i asked my MIL and she looked at me funny and was said she never really paid attention to her due dates and the babies just came when they came... I guess it's hard to keep track of time when you live in a tent, van or school bus... my husband was literally raised like a travelling hippie until he was a teenager.
  • My older brother was almost a month late and weighed 13 POUNDS at birth. I was right around on time and only about 8.5 pounds. The kicker here? My mom had us both at home with a midwife, no drugs. The only thing she remembers about my birth is how easy it was compared to my brother 😂😂
  • @peanutorcookie 13 pounds?! OMG!

  • @baseballismyfavoriteseason I don’t have multiples but all these of my friends do and I will say that two of them went past 40 weeks both times. My other friend has three one at 41 weeks, 40 weeks and 39 weeks. Another one had her first at 36 weeks and her second at 37 weeks. So it kind of seems like they all kind of go into labor around the same time? DD was a due date baby so all my friends are joking that this one will be a due date baby too.
  • My son came at 39+2 and I really hope this one is similar! Although I do want an October birthday lol, so we'll see. My grandma was born September 28th though, so that would be pretty sweet too.
She seems bigger than my son so far, so we'll see. My son was a peanut at 6 lbs 4 oz!
  • My daughter was on her exact due date, and I know exactly when I ovulated based on temping. This one I was really sporadic about temping so not really sure. And they may want to induce me since my labor was so fast last time and they don't want me to deliver in the car on the way there 😬 lol.

Has anyone used a Konny wrap? It reminds me of a Moby in the front but it’s pre-wrapped and goes over your head like a shirt. It looks promising but I’d love feedback. Here’s the link www.konnybaby.com
  • @coldbrew I haven’t heard of it. It kind of sounds like a baby k’tan? I got a Moby wrap from my local Buy Nothing group for itty bitty baby stage, but I’m considering grabbing a k’tan from our local kids consignment shop in case the Moby is too difficult.
