OPK test thread

A few of us were talking in the WTO thread today about wishing there was a thread we could post OPKs in (like the "what does a pregnancy test look like" thread in the First Tri board). I know there was discussion on this a while ago but I don't remember where it left off.... and I feel like it was left undecided since nothing came of it. Anyway - Several of us think it would be helpful in our board to have a designated place to post OPKs so we can see progressions and what a blazing OPK looks like...etc. I thought we could take a poll to see other's opinions and then possibly go with the majority vote...

I just remembered more of the conversation! I think we kind of left it at using the chart stalk/questions thread for posting opk pictures. I think that habit lasted maybe a week before we all forgot about it.

I'm of 2 minds on this one:

1. I'm fine with the creation of a dedicated stickied thread (I'd rather not have opk pics in the dailies IMO) since as @kpearse99 knows I'm an OPK reader extraordinaire

2. I do wonder if we'll get Peggies mistaking OPKs for HPTs and posting their own pics. None of us want pregnancy tests here.

@inthewoods23 This may be unkind of me to say, but anyone who willfully ignores HPT instructions and either takes them apart or reads them hours later is not likely to appreciate the difference between an OPK and HPT

That being said, we get pee stick HPT photos regardless, so maybe being able to contain them in one area is more ideal? Like on TikTok the videos of making a square box out of tape on the floor for cats to lay in?

@mvt2003 it might make it harder for the Peggies to find it if we don't sticky it and maybe post a new one each month.

I totally understand @mvt2003 and I was thinking the same thing but if they do post HPT in the OKP thread we don't need to respond to them at all... we can simply report their comment to TB and they can delete the image then.

@krash_ I'm good with a new thread each month too - that's a great idea!

@inthewoods23 my only thing is that I don't want a pee stick popping up on a thread on my computer (not as much of a concern right now that I'm not in the office but that might change) so if they are all in their own place I will avoid that thread until a time and place that I can look at them. We can put them in spoilers but people suck at following directions.

I was also thinking if we have a dedicated thread that we should make a point to say "for HPTs go to the pregnancy test thread in 1st tri" in case any Peggys come along. Also make it in big bold letters cuz

Okay.... So no one has said NO to having a thread like this, which is great! I'm going to go ahead and create it but I'd love some input on the "rules" of the thread and help writing it.... @inthewoods23 @krash_ @mvt2003

We need some form of "do not post HPTs" (obviously) and provide the link to that thread on 1st tri. Maybe even mentioning that posting an HPT here is a violation of TOU and will get reported to be removed.

I'd say for the picture itself, make sure the end of the stick shows (where you hold it), so we can tell which is the control line. And make sure for cheapies you don't have the pic go beyond "MAX" to make sure you're not posting any part of the pee dipped area. Even ideally you'd post from the 2 lines up to handle side of the stick.

Not sure if there are other rules to consider?

I'd also add: "Check the background. Is your counter gross? Is there any information or objects you wouldn't want to share?" "Make sure the picture is clear and in focus. Use consistency in lighting and position when comparing different tests."

I would add to include brand of opk, what time of day it was taken and how long until photo was taken.

Also, maybe add a note about being a contributing member of this community and reference to introducing yourself etc.?

Maybe a little bit much but to the "no HPT" rule could we add something to the effect that we also are not going to accept OPKs as makeshift HPTs? Sometimes people will take an OPK right around when AF is due hoping it'll be positive and mean they're pregnant (even though that's not always true)...

@krash_ truth is, the opk will totally pick up hcg the same as LH, so if you were pregnant and took an opk it would be positive. but one, people don't realize it literally has to be a positive opk (as in, test line darker than control), and two, you can totally have a positive looking opk right before your period is due and not be pregnant. So it always makes more sense to just take a pregnancy test lol

The sole purpose of this thread is to help provide insight on OPKs and to offer support to one another as a community. This thread is not a place for HPTs to be posted and discussed. Posting a HPT here is a violation of TOU and will get reported to be removed.The only thread where you may post a picture of a HPT is here: https://forums.thebump.com/discussion/12219554/what-does-a-positive-pregnancy-test-really-look-like#latest

You may only post pictures of OPKs here and not in any another thread. When posting a picture of your OPK please follow these guidelines:

Make sure the end of the stick shows (where you hold it). This will help us to be able to tell which is the control line.
If using cheapies, make sure your picture does NOT go beyond the "MAX" line. (we prefer not to look at the pee dipped area!)
You may NOT post a picture of an OPK that you are trying to use as a HPT.

When posting please include the following:
- Brand of OPK
- Time of day
- How long did you wait before you took the picture
- Picture of your OPK:
- Question(s)

@kpearse99 the only thing I would change is noting the 1st Tri board as part of the statement of where to post HPTs. Such as "The only thread where you may post a picture of a HPT is on the 1st Trimester board here: (link)"

I think the TOU mentions the board name so we probably should too. That way they get the message that they're on the wrong board.

@kpearse99 I’d also change the first “HPT” to actually spelling out “home pregnancy test”. Most of the offenders don’t seem like frequent users of these boards & may not know the acronyms so the rules will go right over their heads. Same with “TOU” but that doesn’t matter as much.
