April appointments

Re: April appointments

  • @catana15 Literally no reason they shouldn't have a better system in place by now. I'm surprised everyone wasn't required to wear masks, especially if they were hacking all over the place. They shouldn't have had expectant mothers in that kind of environment, and it's for sure worth a complaint to the office. I'm sorry!

  • @catana15 I could cry for you. That’s so awful! I would’ve said something straight away and waited outside/in my car! What a scary situation to be in. I’m putting off my GD test in fear of being exposed. I have heard from other ladies who go to the same lab I’ll be going too, that they do allow us to sit in our car. I’m just afraid if I start to feel sick or faint. I have no idea what to expect and I’m trying to muster up the courage to just go and get it done. ((Hugs to you))
  • @charhar0820 Ugh. I can't stand the GD screening. I have never had an issue, so I just drink the chemical cocktail for no reason. The first time it made me so sick, and ever since that experience, I dread it every pregnancy. I had to do it twice last time, because I was bouncing between doctor's offices, and the initial test was given too early.
  • @catana15 I'm so sorry you had to go through that.  I agree that you should absolutely call you dr and complain.  Try to take the next few days easy.  Hugs  <3

@charhar0820 That's great that you can wait in your car.  Any chance you SO can come with you in case you feel ill?

@mrswheeler812 Glad everything is okay with baby boy.  That must have been frightening.

  • @lachnessmomstet, fwiw, you can decline it. I think a lot of people don't know that, but you can decline pretty much any test.
  • @coldlife2 Seriously!? I've always felt like I'd be branded with a black mark if I even mentioned a desire to skip it. I figured I'd get the, "But it's for the good of you and your baby," lecture and have always just complied. 😬
  • @whl1013 You can always call and ask for a nurse visit that's what I had and then I still have my normal appointment in a few weeks. Its a quick check in and they can do the heart Doppler to find baby and they have a few tricks to see if they can get baby to respond. They have a little buzzer that makes noises to startle baby into moving. My son just burrowed further from the Doppler but we could tell he was moving thank goodness. She said 24 weeks is a normal time for less movement because they are doing a lot of growing. If you are worried just call, no harm done.

You might. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯  I think that would depend on your practice and your providers. I've definitely considered skipping it, but so far, I haven't. My birth practice is definitely more relaxed with the attitude of "these are the risks that go alone with that choice. We just want to make sure you're fully informed. Ok, next."
  • @lachnessmomster you can ask for an alternative option too. I know some have done the finger prick testing for a week and sent the record to their doctor as a way to test GD instead of the drink. I know another person who got approval from their doctor to eat skittles before the test instead of the drink. I cannot do the drink this time around so they are doing extra A1C checks during each trimester bloodwork this pregnancy since I had GD with DS1. So there is alternative options out there.
