Fitness Check In - everyone is welcome!!!

I didn't do a good job of staying fit in my last pregnancy, so I'm much more focused on it this time. Who wants to join me in staying mentally, physically, and emotionally healthy for the next nine-ish months?

    What physical workouts are you doing? Hiking and yoga.

    What are you doing for your mental health? I see a therapist.

    What mindfulness practices are you doing? Journaling and 30 minutes a day of doing something just because I like doing it. Usually play piano.

    Do you have any questions for the board? 
    I already asked 4 questions. 😉

  • What physical workouts are you doing? Walking, running when I feel well enough, modified HIIT workouts, kettlebell workouts, and yoga. Usually only 20-30 minutes, but it’s been a struggle this first trimester with being so tired all the time. 

    What are you doing for your mental health? What mindfulness practices are you doing? Running is generally take care of my mental health and yoga is my mindfulness. Still trying to work on that mental health part with not being able to run as often.

  • Yay @mckjacks!! Glad you're here. I hate running and after two kids I usually pee my pants within the first ten steps. I ran a half marathon once hoping that training for it would help me love running but... It did not. 😂😂😂 

    My kids are often with me during my yoga practice, so it isn't as mindful anymore. They're actually doing yoga now while I watch because my tummy hurts. I did the first half with them.

  • What physical workouts are you doing?
    I workout for an hour in the morning. I do 30 mins of stretching, weights, and/or body weight exercises and 30 minutes of quick walking on the treadmill. I also do yoga class on Sundays and in the evenings a couple times a week at home. I also love barre classes but in my area, they are out of my price range to attend regulary. 

    What are you doing for your mental health?
    Exercise definately helps my mental health.

    What mindfulness practices are you doing?
    Yoga.

  • What physical workouts are you doing? I’m definitely not doing as much as I’d like to. I try and walk everyday and do yoga, but I have felt so tired lately that it’s a struggle. We had plans to go hiking today, but I just couldn’t find the energy! I stayed very active during my last pregnancy, but it’s much harder with a 12 month old to have the energy and time.

    What are you doing for your mental health? Not enough, I get down on myself when I don’t work out so I really need to get into a routine. 

    What mindfulness practices are you doing? Yoga and I plan to start doing nightly meditations to help me fall asleep. 

    Do you have any questions for the board? nope 
  • What physical workouts are you doing? - I’m a runner, but I’m focusing on walking/hiking during my pregnancy and yoga. My daughter loves yoga so we can do it together.

    What are you doing for your mental health? - Exercise and some quiet alone time is what I do for my mental health. I also spend time in prayer.

    What mindfulness practices are you doing? - I am a knitter and seamstress so my making time is very mindful for me. 

    Do you have any questions for the board? - Nope!
  • @dogmomnowbabymom that is awesome! I'd love to know some of your bodyweight exercises.

    @westslopemama fitness before and after having kids is so different. I have to remind myself that chasing a toddler and carrying them around and all that goes with it IS exercise.

    @homeport17 do you do cosmic kids? My kiddos LOVE it and even my husband who has never been into yoga joins in the fun.

  • What physical workouts are you doing? I joined a local barre studio in April 2019 before I got pregnant, so I continue to go there 2-3x a week. The studio offers spin, barre, and yoga classes, but I tend to stick to barre. All of their yoga classes are heated, so I can't go to those :(

    What are you doing for your mental health? The exercise helps for sure. I'm thinking of looking up some local prenatal yoga classes as I get further along.

    What mindfulness practices are you doing? Some of the barre classes end with a short yoga/stretch session, but I should probably do more mindfulness practice on my own.

    Do you have any questions for the board? Has anyone else done barre throughout pregnancy? What modifications were necessary for you?
  • @BLuvsE for body weight exercises I mostly follow a youtube channel called Blogilates. Her exercises are great. You din't need any weights. She has a daily calendar with videos to follow and has some pregnancy workouts also. And she has such a postive vibe.

  • I'm hoping to get back into my yoga routine and some modified HIIT workouts next week after my trip. I'll (finally) be done with my progesterone injections and be able to actually move my body- my butt has been so sore from them that I can hardly sit for too long.

    For my mental health, I've been really trying to put my phone down and end the scroll. I certainly don't benefit from it and it's been helping me feel more content by not seeing what everyone else is doing/eating/buying/complaining about.

    I use the Calm app every day for mindfulness! There are different "activities" you can do and I love taking a few minutes to find something that applies to each day for me.
  • What physical workouts are you doing? I joined our local Fit4mom back when DD was 6 months old. I’ve grown really close with them so I’m going to continue going throughout this pregnancy. They have a fit4baby class on Saturday and I’ve been making an extra effort to go to those. Everything a modified for pregnancy. I also belong to the ymca nearby and will probably pop in there on days that are too hot or rainy. 

    What are you doing for your mental health?
    im sticking with my Zoloft this time. It helps me with my anxiety. I’m also taking up my in laws and friends offers to take DD for a few hours so I can rest. 

    What mindfulness practices are you doing?
    im trying to keep up with our Sunday yoga days with my friends but I’ve also been exhausted.

  • @BLuvsE My DD LOVES Cosmic Kids! For myself, I usually go to Yoga with Adriene (on YouTube). She has such a great variety, including a prenatal series I'm excited to try.

    What physical workouts are you doing? Peloton. I was doing really well until 6 weeks - exercising 5-6 days a week mixing up riding and strength. Nausea and exhausting hit HARD and now I’m only managing 3ish classes a week.

    What are you doing for your mental health? Riding keeps me sane! I also go to bed really early 🤣

    What mindfulness practices are you doing? I do meditation at bedtime twice a week or so, whenever I don’t pass out watching tv!

  • What physical workouts are you doing? I try to go on a 30 minute walk every day. I jog when I feel like it (these days only like 2 times a month) and hike when I can. 

    What are you doing for your mental health? Therapy and meds!! 

    What mindfulness practices are you doing? Nothing specifically in this category. I guess I do some deep breathing to help myself fall asleep. 

    Do you have any questions for the board? Exercise and diet talk can be hard for me. I don’t go so far to say I’m in eating disorder recovery, but more just like chronic dieter/obsessive exerciser recovery. For the last 1.5 years I’ve been trying to let go of those obsessions. Anyone else?
  • @BLuvsE before having my son I was a competitive ultra runner and ran 40+ miles/week most of the year. I swore that I would be back competing once he was 6 months old, but I just don’t have the motivation or energy anymore. I’d much rather spend time with him than on the trails alone. I do a lot of hiking with him so I’m still getting out in nature, but it’s completely different now. I do think one day I’ll be back to training and racing again, but mostly to stay in shape instead of chasing the podium!

  • @psmk521 I feel you on the chronic dieting. I have yo yo'd with my weight for a long time. I have been thru bouts of depression/anxiety and gaining a lot of weight and then losing it. I have been thru binge eating as well.

    What physical workouts are you doing? I was doing a barre blend workout when I found out I was pregnant but my joints are wreaking havoc on my body and have been reduced to walking.

    What are you doing for your mental health? I have a spiritual journal that I fill out using OurDailyBread which has daily biblical readings.

    What mindfulness practices are you doing? Oops answered this above. I’m also winding down with some Netflix time to relax since I hardly ever get TV time

    Do you have any questions for the board? I’d like to know what your #1 registry item is for your new coming baby.
  • @mizztexmex131 this is my third kid, so all we really need is a car seat and a new rocking chair because our old one bit the dust after #2. But if I was a first time mom, the mamaroo would be at the top of my registry. We love ours and I can't wait to use it again.

    First BFP on 1/4/22.  Due date 9/13/22.

    Four prior losses, no living children - 1 first trimester miscarriage, 1 blighted ovum, 1 chemical, and one extreme premature live birth daughter who died at 15 days old.
