It is literally my job to make sure people are vaccinated, and I judge anti-vaxxers pretty hard, so I am excited to discover that that is NOT and unpopular opinion on this board!
Re: circumcision, after I had seen a case of an adult man with phimosis (don't google that if you don't want to see pictures, it means that the foreskin gets too tight and you can't pull it back) who had gotten the foreskin stuck back during sex and ended up with gangrene in an unfortunate area, I have been pro-circumcision. There is also evidence that circumcision decreases the risk of UTIs and yeast infections in men, so that is another pro. I can definitely see that it is morally iffy if there is no medical indication, but it is my 2 cents that it can be considered medically indicated. However I also know that my mom is morally opposed to them and vocal about it, so I am literally hoping I don't have a boy so I never have to have this discussion with her. I know she will end up watching the baby and changing diapers, so it isn't like she won't know.
Yes to pro vaccine and judging anti vaxxers! And I'm an Android girl FOREVER. So over super hero movies. I don't get Tik Tok but I'm probably just old!
Root beer and Dr Pepper are GROSS.
My son is not circumcised and my H was actually ok with it. We were told it's nowadays way more common to not circumcise. I grew up on Europe when it's not common and I think there's nothing wrong with it 🤷🏻♀️
@morethanamama thanks for bringing the point that circumcision is not common in Europe!
As an European now living in Canada -moved in 2014- I still find so many north american debates weird overall.
Back home kids get a circumcision if it's prescribed by a doctor usually under the age of 10. Never in my life I've heard of someone electing to do it on babies without medical reason (except for Muslims and Jews who are less than 2% of the population and I don't personally know any back home).
Culturally, earrings are 100% yes for girls, it's usually done within the first couple of weeks. Personally, I may pass. I never wear earrings myself so I won't put them on my baby (if it's a girl) unless she wants them when she's older.
Antivax? Never heard of it till I moved to Canada.
Gender reveal parties? Same, never heard of them. Same with baby showers, although I do like the idea of getting together with friends and family before the baby comes. Baby registry, it's an awesome idea! Back home most people gift clothes unless it's close family and they want to get one of the big items. With a baby registry you can still get lots of items on the cheaper side but you get to choose and say what you need!
Can't remember who said it but I agree! I totally hate chocolate cake and chocolate ice cream. Thumbs up for vanilla
Android wins!
Now my UO not based on previous UOs: sleeping with (clean) socks is the best!
I’m very anticirc and provax. I don’t really care about ear piercing honestly, but I had mine pierced when I was young, ripped them out more than once and the holes never healed correctly so I can’t wear earrings with backplates. We’re having a girl this time and I’ll wait until she’s old enough to ask for and take care of a piercing.
@angela444 Yay! Pineapples on pizza is the best! Our typical order is pineapple+pepperoni. The sweetness really balances the savory of the pepperoni. If we’re feeling spicy we add jalapeños too.
I am normally 100% with you on avocados, but I have been craving them during this pregnancy. What?? I was slicing one up for myself the other day and the act of slicing it was totally grossing me out, because I KNOW they’re disgusting! But it tasted so freaking good.
Current pregnancy - First BFP on 1/4/22. Due date 9/13/22.
Four prior losses, no living children - 1 first trimester miscarriage, 1 blighted ovum, 1 chemical, and one extreme premature live birth daughter who died at 15 days old.
Regarding ear piercing for babies. I remember this being a bit hot topic on my other BMBs. Personally I think it’s cruel to cause unnecessary pair to an infant, period. Cultural practice or not. I also constantly see kids at my pediatric urgent care with embedded earrings needing surgically removed, earring ripped out requiring suturing, and serious infections. That alone is enough of a reason for me to want to wait until my daughters are old enough to care for them.
@coldbrew It was a big discussion with DH and me. Culturally it was really important for him but I really had a hard time causing my baby pain for no other reason. In the end I let him win that one but we’ve had lots of the issues you’ve listed and DD doesn’t even wear them anymore. If this one was a girl I would have put my foot down this time and insisted we wait. I think he would have been easily persuaded after seeing how many times the backs have gotten embedded into DDs ears. Luckily we always caught it early enough that we were able to clean it up and let it heal at home.
@coldbrew that’s what happened to me when I finally gave up wearing them. I guess from them being torn out the holes were stretched and an earring got stuck inside my ear at school. I didn’t have to have surgery thankfully but had to go to the ER to have a doctor dig them out and then it got infected. Super gross.
I was raised with the idea that pierced ears on a baby are extremely tacky 🤷🏻♀️ I think that notion is so embedded in me that I would not even consider it. In the South of Italy, it's very common. I just think it's another thing to worry about and there's enough to worry about with a baby!
We also don't have showers of any kind, bridal or baby, so that was a new discovery for me in the US.
On the subject of pierced ears: a child that I used to see for speech therapy had 3 holes on EACH ear and she was only 3!! Her mother had them pierced on each of her birthdays and she always wore these huge studded earrings. Her mother said she was going to keep getting them pierced every year. I felt so bad for that child!
@morethanamama I was raised the same way. I was given a choice to pierce my own ears and if I end up having a girl, she will get the choice if she wants.
I guess my unpopular opinion for this board is that I looove Beyoncé. Seen her in concert 3 times.
If we have a baby with a penis we won’t be circumcising (husband isn’t) and for ear piercing, no until middle school age. Also extremely pro vaccine/pro science and judge people who aren’t. I think gender reveal parties are stupid, reinforce the gender binary, and should be called sex reveal parties because that’s all you’re really finding out.
Hmm...I agree it’s kind of hard to come up with them. I don’t really like superhero stuff. Or most video games. I don’t like sushi but I’m a picky eater. Hahaha, I just asked my husband “what’s an unpopular opinion that I have?” After a long pause he referenced a weird eating habit I have: putting margarine on rice. It’s how I grew up eating it 🤷🏻♀️
@psmk521 That's the way I grew up with rice, too. And sometimes we put brown sugar on there, too - that's still a comfort food for me.

@psmk521 - I was literally just telling MH last night that I'm not sure if it's a regional thing or what, but I love putting margarine/butter on rice. Now I see it's not so uncommon, so it's nice to know I'm in good company!

You said it! Along the same lines, I guess my UO is that no matter what the sex of my child, I'll let them decide if/when they want pierced ears. I'd never really heard of piercing baby ears.
I'm anti-circumcision, but it's an easier decision for me because my husband isn't. I notice that men get dug in deep on their beliefs on the issue based on their own state, and who can blame them? I have strong beliefs against the practice if it's not religious or medically indicated but I don't judge anyone for their choices (unlike anti-vaxxers, them I judge).
