@profmcgonagall I have to agree. I haven't watched it (so I know I'm judging based on everything I've heard only), but I also have zero motivation to do so.
Mine is that I'm going to send my kid back to daycare soon because I can't handle it. I just told daycare I'm keeping her home until May 4th, but unless something crazy happens I will send her back then, even though I'm working from home until 6/1. My mental health is not good and I'm being a terrible wife because DD has taken everything out of me.
@carrotsandpeas3 I am so with you. We lasted two weeks of working from home with our toddler. Granted, our daycare is my mom, so that made our decision easier. We basically just gave her two weeks after what we felt was a dumb decision of getting together with some family members that were also not taking coronavirus seriously. In that time, they started taking it seriously, wearing face protection (ie bandanas) when grocery shopping, etc, so once they were clear of that incubation period with no symptoms, we started bringing him back over. Normally she does a home daycare and has other kids, but right now my kid is the only one.
My unpopular opinion: I’m actually kind of glad I can’t drink right now! I feel like our household is going to be one of the few that comes out of this experience not being alcoholics. I say that a little bit tongue in cheek, but I am actually concerned that this is going to be an unforeseen consequence...
I agree with you @baseballismyfavoriteseason. Prior to getting KU, I used to enjoy a glass or two of red wine after dinner almost every night as a way to wind down at the end of the day. I actually still have 4 or 5 bottles in our pantry that I had either bought or been gifted prior to finding out I was pregnant, so I have those to look forward to in October lol.
And I know I've mentioned this before, but I am of the opinion that it's cool for pregnant ladies to have a glass of wine every now and then. But I know me and how much I love and miss wine, and I know I would have a hard time just having one glass, which is why I have refrained completely. I won't begrudge others their wine, though, by all means, you do you, IDGAF.
@baseballismyfavoriteseason I'm 4 weeks in and am doing at least two more weeks, and it has been so so difficult, especially because my husband is still working outside of our home. DD goes to a daycare center though and they had a teacher test positive 4 weeks ago, so I have been so conflicted. I just can't take much more.
@babyodo I agree. I have wanted a drink so many times over the last month, but I've said several times that it's probably good I can't drink right now or I'd probably be over doing it. I have had a sip of DH's beer twice. 😝 I don't know if I would ever have a full glass just because of paranoia/guilt, but I will definitely have (several) sips in 3rd tri. I try to avoid entirely in first tri just since its the most critical development period.
HDBD posts before late 1st tri/early 2nd tri kind of make me laugh (and I don't just mean here on our board, but in general. Even when I see a friend post on fb or whatever!). I know everyone's body is different, but I don't think your raspberry sized baby is giving you a noticeable and actual baby bump.
@themoonandme - OMG, I'm part of a women-in-the-military group, and the other day one of the ladies posted asking for bump pics, and this woman posted her entire album of weekly pics starting at 4 weeks. One of the comments said, "Wow, you were showing REALLY early!" and I was just thinking, "Yeah, that was most likely PMS bloat" but held off on saying anything because that group has 17,000+ members and can get pretty vicious.
@themoonandme I agree. I started posting at 11 weeks with the full understanding that it's not a real bump yet, just to document a baseline and because I was taking the photos for myself more than anything! Would never publicly post that on social media.
I thought of another UO when I just looked at my Instagram--people who post multiple stories a day every day, especially those that post ones where they are just talking to the camera make me 🙄🙄🙄. I immediately skip them and assume the person is super self absorbed.
I don’t blame you for sending DD to daycare. I’m dying with two kids and working from home and DH still working away from home. I’m losing my shit. We also have the neighbor’s toddler right now too because she just had her baby yesterday. House is a damn disaster!!!
Agreed about not being able to drink right now. I’d be starting early every day if I could and drinking more than I should. I’ve also had a few sips of DHs beer.
I don’t think we started the HDBD posts here until we were late in first or even in second tri already which is admittedly a bit sooner than usual but I think we needed some fun on the board even if it’s just bloat bellies. It was getting pretty gloomy and stressed around the board a few weeks ago and we needed something to lighten the mood. Covid has made it hard to celebrate these pregnancies so I think we take it where we can get it even if it’s frivolous. Maybe that’s my UO though.
My UO maybe- I hate spring. It’s my least favorite season. The unpredictable weather with random snows after weeks of sunny days, shitty wind, allergies, and peak depression season for me all just make it suck. It was the worse season for COVID to strike for me personally.
Oh one more UO- I think most unpopular opinions are actually mostly popular. It’s pretty impossible to think of something that no one else on the planet feels the same way about. I think they mostly end up being a 50% split on average.
@carrotsandpeas3 true! The old bump UOs were a lot more spicy with topics like vaccines and ear piercing and pacifiers and breast feeding. I think that’s what the original UO posts were meant to do. But for obvious reasons they have morphed into more tame topics.
@carrotsandpeas3 Ugh that does make it harder! Though it would make me feel better that it was 4 weeks ago, and no new cases since then? 🤞 As a former daycare worker I know how hard it is to keep clean (not trying to scare you!!)... my mom is a clean freak so sometimes I think my kid is better off at her house. 🤣
@themoonandme YES. As a “curvier” lady (not plus-size but not single-digit sizes!) I roll my eyes at those... that’s what I look like every day! Lol.
@JLaVO888 You are not wrong! But I think there might also be a facet that we tend to surround ourselves (on accident or on purpose) with like-minded people and sometimes we think it’s an unpopular opinion until we express it and find out how many others agree.
@JLaVO888 we had several of those discussions in my prior BMB, and they never went well. Half the time people left because things got ugly or feelings got hurt. With how small our group is already and after our early "risk of miscarriage" thread debacle, I don't want this group to drop anymore yet!
@carrotsandpeas3 totally agree. I don’t think we need anything to spark hurt feelings. I just have such a hard time trying to think of anything to post for an UO 😂
@baseballismyfavoriteseason oh definitely. My kid has had every illness under the sun and was perpetually sick from 4-12 months old including a hospitalization and ear tubes. They did shut down the daycare for 2 weeks for a deep clean after the teacher tested positive and are checking temps and requiring hand washing on drop off/pick up and dropping off at the door to prevent as much outside germs from being brought in as possible. As DH said the other day though, the whole social distancing thing is not going to prevent most of us from getting this, it's just trying to keep the spread from happening all at once and overwhelming our hospitals and supplies. It's scary, but I guess I have to send her back eventually.
@baseballismyfavoriteseason If it were not for knowing how much my daughter will love it, I’d never go back to Disney every again. I also really have no desire to ever go to Vegas. I also have little desire to go on a cruise or to a packed beach location. Lines and inconsiderate people and inflated food and water prices just cause me extreme anxiety and make me grouchy. My dream vacations are in the mountains. Serene and beautiful.
@JLaVO888 Can TOTALLY understand that. We only go off-season for those reasons. My favorite vacations are going to the coast. I love watching the waves crash against the beach.
People can be overly sensitive. I feel like the boards definitely have a different feel to them now. UO and FFFC are now usually very tame; there would be massive disagreements on my prior BMB. It doesn't take much to get a warning or banned.
My unpopular opinion is that staycations are my favorite type of vacation. It might be even more unpopular now because a lot of people have been stuck at home. I don't like packing and unpacking for vacations. Also, I feel like I end up spending a lot of money on vacations, and it doesn't seem worth it afterwards. I love where I live, and I usually feel like I look forward to going home when I'm on vacation. I like the idea of going somewhere on vacation more than I actually like going somewhere on vacation.
UO - I think extravagant gender reveal parties are too much. I think it’s fun to do something simple with close families, but some are just outrageous and unnecessary. (Can you tell I’ve been watching YouTube videos of gender reveals today? Lol)
UO - I think gender reveal parties of any kind are completely unnecessary and reinforce artificial gender norms.
Current pregnancy - First BFP on 1/4/22. Due date 9/13/22.
Four prior losses, no living children - 1 first trimester miscarriage, 1 blighted ovum, 1 chemical, and one extreme premature live birth daughter who died at 15 days old.
I think part of the reason our UO & FFFC threads have been so tame is we're still getting to know each other here. I'm much more likely to be more 'spicy' with people I'm familiar with. But, since it's quarantine and we seem to have established the regular posters here, sure why not?
Okay, so here's a few of the more interesting UOs I have for myself and my LO: - Pro-vaccine - Pro-ears pierced - Pro-circumcision (if that's what MH wanted if we were having a boy, but we're not, so ehh) - Anti-gender reveal parties (the only reason we did a gender reveal is because MH wanted to, otherwise I wouldn't have chosen to do one)
And a few non-pregnancy related ones: - Add me to the Beyonce-is-overrated list - Megachurches are creepy (the words "millionaire" and "pastor" should never be used to describe the same person) - There are too many superhero movies out (and this is coming from a self-proclaimed comic book nerd) - Android is better than Apple - Brick facades on houses are tacky AF
@babyodo 100% pro vaccine. The boyfriend gets to decide on a circumcision if we have a boy (team green) as I think he is more knowledgeable on that than me haha. I'm ok with it either way. And the kiddo can get their ears pierced when they ask. Let the kid make some inconsequential decisions.
I love pineapple on my pizza. Avocado is gross, even in guacamole form. I don't like ketchup on anything. Root beer tastes a bit like toothpaste Pop music all sounds the same (from the beyonce comments though, this might not be that unpopular....). Most of my opinions are food-related right now, must be lunch time....
@babyodo only one I feel strongly about is pro Vaccines! Im in the let people do what they wish as long as it doesn’t hurt others camp.
They actually pushed DS’s one year vaccines because of covid and it’s caused me some anxiety but since we are quarantined at home anyways I guess I shouldn’t get too worked up.
All current music kind of sucks. Maybe that’s a sign of aging I dk but take me back to the 90s 80s and 70s for music in all the genres.
@angela444 avocados may actually be an UO. I was allergic to them when I was younger and so was DD when I was breast feeding and it was so hard to not eat them cuz I love them. Just had one for lunch!
@profmcgonagall we have a local brewery that makes the BEST root beer. I’d kill for one right now. Humm now I’m wondering if they do growlers for pick up?? May be worth looking into.
+1 for vaccines, and also judging those who don't. 🤷
I don't really care if you want to pierce ears or circumcise, either way is fine. I will circumcise if we have a boy just bc DH wants to, but I don't care what other people do or not.
I don't care at all about gender reveal, but agree they can be over the top. Not my thing but I've also been team green both times.
Just to clarify I meant let people do what they want in reference to ears and circs etc. Not vaccinating does harm others so that’s not the same. Also judgy of people that willingly choose not to. I’m sure I may get some backlash because anti circ and piercing people do feel it’s harmful to baby.
I'm definitely pro-vaccine. Herd immunity is extremely important. I definitely judge people who don't vaccinate unless there is a true medical reason to not vaccinate such as allergies. The arguments of anti-vaxxers just shows a lack of knowledge/intelligence. I live near an area filled with anti-vaxxers; the amount of preventable diseases that occur within that community is sad.
@coldbrew I’m so with you on judging people who don’t vaccinate. I love sending memes to my best friend who works in healthcare and we just laugh and roll our eyes at friends who post on social media about why to not vaccinate. 🙄 my aunt I believe is now one of those people....
100% pro vaccine and judging those who don't VERY harshly (without a REAL reason). Everyone's talk of root beer made me request DH go out to get stuff for root beer floats. 😍😍🤤 @angela444 the reason it tastes like toothpaste is because one of the flavors is wintergreen mint! My OU: chocolate ice cream and most chocolate cake is gross.
DH is not circumcised, and it has been an issue from time to time, tearing and whatnot if things weren't well lubricated. It is up to him if we have a boy, but last time talked about it, it seemed like he was leaning towards not. I'm torn (pun intended)
@babyodo I don't think most of those are unpopular. *Anti-vaxxers are idiots who listen to Jenny McCarthy rather than actual science who contribute to the resurgence of preventable deadly diseases. *I have the same debate on circumcision. From a moral standpoint, it ABSOLUTELY is genital mutilation. But from an aesthetic standpoint, uncircumcized penises look like really ugly tube worms (not that circumcized penises look all that much better, but I digress). Very glad we're having a girl so I don't have to wrestle more with this right now. *Megachurches are SUPER creepy and (in my opinion) cesspools of corruption. *I am totally over super hero movies. *Apple is evil.

+1 for the drinking. I actually miss not having a cocktail but I think I might overdo it if I could drink, given the situation!

I had a gender reveal party for my first but I was pretty young and thing they’re dumb now.
I don’t really drink but I really could use a cocktail once in a while to deal with the stress of everything.
I like Apple over Android.
As a nurse I think the social media videos of HCWs dancing/Tik Tok videos are in poor taste.
