I had carrot cake for breakfast and regret nothing.
I have nothing planned for the day. I wanted to check on my garden bed this morning, but we're having a lot of wind so I'll have to wait until tomorrow. A squirrel got into my bed last week and I think it disrupted most of my radish/carrot seeds, but it looks like I might have a couple seedlings coming up which is exciting. Fingers crossed they aren't just weeds.
Got hit with some pretty crazy storms last night. Luckily we have no damage that we have seen, so far. I know there were a few tornadoes a little north of me and there a several downed trees around us.
@RedBaramid Y'all OK? I know the same line that hit us, hit y'all later on.
@wildrainbow Hey, thanks for checking in. We all slept in really late this morning (it's about 10:25 now and I've just now got my morning coffee). Honestly, we made it through fine, nothing hit too close to us. I'm glad you're safe too! I've been looking through the news this morning and my heart hurts with some of the stories I'm reading. My inner midwestern girl spent the whole night anxiously thinking about which bathroom was most interior and listening for alerts. I foolishly thought I left tornadoes when I left Illinois.
@RedBaramid I'm sorry, dear, they are worse down here because they happen all year long. H and I stayed up late and had storm supplies out to get in the hallway if we needed too. I'm just now drinking my coffee as well. Glad y'all are safe.
ETA Sorry, I realize now this probably should have gone on the other thread, but at least it's funny!

My grandmother just sent me a Vitamix out of the blue! I think maybe I mentioned to her that we didn’t have a blender when I saw her at Thanksgiving? So if anyone has any great smoothie recipes, lmk!
I cleared out our one raised bed and planted some peas a couple days ago. Got some baby tomato plants too, but it’s still been getting pretty cold at night even though the days are sunny and 65, so just repotted them for now. Feels good to do yard stuff again!
I'm wondering when or if I should contact Carter's and Old Navy about my orders. They both state in their confirmations that things are taking a "little longer" (Carter's) or there may be delays (old navy). Which I understand. But I guess that to me means things take maybe twice as long or even three times as long. But I typically experience things being shipped out the next day, and it's been over a full week now. That seems like a really, really long delay. This isn't Amazon where they ship out everything you could ever possibly buy, it's just clothes.
@viola_mama I love our Vitamix! The "going green" smoothie from Vitamix is delicious. You can Google it or it's in the book they usually include with the blender. I usually use frozen pineapple.
@coldlife2 I ordered a week ago and mine hasn't shipped either
Married July 2014 DD born June 2016 Second due August 2020 (team green!)
Ugh, yea, I'll probably just wait. It's not a huge rush, but my daughter sure could use the stuff. I was holding off on moving her to the next size until consignment sales rolled around. And obviously those are all cancelled, so now I'm like, she needs new clothes!
My ThredUp order was fulfilled and came super quickly.
@coldlife2 My ON order was ordered on the 2nd, supposed to arrive today, last night at 10pm they sent me an email saying they were delayed in the warehouse and would let me know when my order ships and said that orders aren't taking more than a full month from the order date. It's all maternity clothes... so I'm gonna be extra excited to get that when it finally shows up since I'm at the point where all I've got is sweatpants and night gowns now.... even my leggings are starting to get a little rough.
@viola_mama I normally have a smoothie as my first breakfast 😂 I do frozen bananas, plain keffir (and or almond milk), cinnamon, pb (or almond butter), dates, chia seeds, and ginger. I don't always have everything on hand so I just go with whatever I have, but it's always some combo of those ingredients. I also love adding frozen cauliflower rice...makes it so creamy!
@viola_mama I don't have a blender and was just asking my mom if I could steal hers since she never uses it. I've been craving a really good smoothie.
I'm glad I ordered my ON order when I did because it sounds like they're having some major issues. Luckily I still have clothes that fit. I lost a decent amount of weight a little over a year ago and didn't get rid of all my old clothes.
@rivercitynik the “first breakfast” made me lol because it’s too relatable 😂
I like to go for either a “tropical” smoothie (frozen tropical blend fruits, OJ, vanilla yogurt) or a “pb&j” smoothie (frozen mixed berries, nut butter, almond milk)... in either one I will add in whatever nutritional add-ins I have on hand (like chia seeds, collagen, etc)
@coldlife2 Same with my ON orders. I placed one at the end of last month and just received it this past weekend. Another order was placed on April 4th, and I've received one item out of nine so far. 😕
@viola_mama I have a green smoothie a few times a week. Here are my 3 recent faves: 1. Spinach, banana, almond butter, mint, almond milk. 2. Spinach, pineapple, mango, mint, flaxseed, almond milk. 3. Spinach, banana, strawberry/blueberry, flaxseed, almond milk. You can sub kale for spinach and chia seed for flax seed. I've been freezing my own spinach and bananas to keep longer during the covid outbreak. Really anything can go into the smoothie and taste pretty good. I've even added peeled cucumber or bits of avocado. Have fun experimenting and enjoy!

@rivercitynik I also end up having a second breakfast. My 1st breakfast is usually eggs and then I have yogurt with berries or granola for 2nd breakfast.
@rivercitynik Haha I just saw that you refer to it as second breakfast. I call it breakfast and a snack... but only bc I've always been a snacker since way before pg. My smoothie is usually the "second breakfast" 🤣

I also always have to have 2 breakfasts even pre-pregnancy. I usually eat toast, cereal, overnight oats, or yogurt so nothing super heavy. I’m always so hungry in the mornings and there are times during pregnancy I have needed to eat a third time before lunch 🤭 For all of you smoothie people, what kind of blender do you have? I have a cuisinart brand one, but it never gets stuff smooth and I’ve considered a fancy one like a vitamix or a blendtec but I can’t get over the price tag. I’d love to upgrade to a better blender!
I’ve been super stressed about food. They keep telling me I need to eat more snacks. I have a stomach condition that makes it hard for me to eat/digest certain foods. They started me on insulin and I’m having trouble keeping my blood sugars normal, they keep dropping. Except for my fasting which is what they’re concerned with. I’m just frustrated.
Glad I'm not alone in needing to eat a few times before lunch! @tara4910 I have a ninja and it gets things really smooth. It's on the pricier side but not as much as a vitamix and I've had it maybe 4 years or so and it's still going strong. I really want one of those boxes that muffles the sound bc it's SO loud but they seem to be way more expensive ($100ish) than I realized. Does anyone have one they like that's a bit more affordable? I know I'll want smoothies when the baby is here but worry about running the blender bc it's so loud.
@tara4910 our (cheapo) blender died last year, and our white elephant Xmas gift was one of those Ninja blender cup things? There are two sizes of cup, and I like that it doesn't take much space so it's easy to store under the counter. I haven't used it that much tbh, but whenever I do, it's a delight!
@tanhabanana oof, I'm sorry that's hard. Did they give you a list of snack ideas that would be appropriate for your situation? Or get you in contact with a nutritionist? I actually have 12 included nutritionist consults (that I had started to book, before everything happened) but I would think given the circumstances they should be able to do a decent phone consult to give you some better ideas! (((Hugs)))
@tara4910 I have the same ninja blender cup as @BusinessWife and it’s great! I haven’t used it in a while because I noticed some mold on the o-ring seal (🤢) and I’ve been too lazy to order a new one. In the meantime I’ve been using a handheld stick blender and it’s actually done a great job too. I also have the big ninja blender like @rivercitynik but never use it because it’s too much of a hassle to get out. I definitely like the small ones for storage and convenience purposes and they seem to get the job done nearly as well.
@tara4910 Same here! I usually have yogurt, overnight oats, or cereal as breakfast... then a snack before lunch. I have a cheapie Chefman smoothie maker. I like that it's small and fits in the cabinet under the counter and is easy to use/clean as the cup to make the smoothie is what you drink it in. When I was going into the office I would prep two days of smoothies and keep them in the fridge in the cups. It definitely doesn't get everything super smooth, but I'll usually add more almond milk and leave it run a bit longer to help it do its thing. Its also not great with frozen fruit/veg so now that I'm home I'll prep it and let it thaw for a bit before blending it. I'd love an upgrade, but my in-laws gave this one to me years ago when they got it as a free gift from one of the casinos and its still kicking lol. @fitandnerdy I have an immersion blender that I love for soups and stuff... never thought of using it for smoothies!!

@coldlife2 I'm part of a big mom's group, Leah's Mom 2 Mom, and the mom's there said that things are taking about 2 weeks and somewhere on their website, carters, old navy, etc, have somewhere that fulfilling orders will take a longer than normal for the time being.

@tanhabanana Oh, that’s stressful. I hope you’re able to figure out a combination of snacks that are both appetizing and helpful for regulating your sugars.
@coldlife2 I ordered from old navy April 1, they still have not shipped my order but their estimated date of delivery is April 28th. I also ordered from carters April 4, I got an email this morning saying my package has shipped. I’ve completely estimated longer shipping times just with everything going on. Planning on ordering more essential items for baby sooner then later because who really knows if and when stores will be open before August 🤷🏼♀️
@charhar0820 I feel the same about the essential baby items. There's no way my husband is gonna go out shopping for everything we need to buy at the store, he'd be so overwhelmed. Also, I just don't know what the world's really gonna start too look like but I'm not sure we can safely wait around to see either and make sure we get everything we need. I'm gonna wait until we hit 3rd trimester and then just start powering through our "registry" and making sure we at least pick up the big things we need and get those ordered. I'm thinking cars seat, pack n' play, some clothes, some diapers, wipes, the real basic needs at least.
I’ve added some postpartum supplies to my subscribe and save over the next few orders because I’m a little nervous about shortages and groceries right now. Probably over the top but that stuff adds up in the end so i figured why not.
I'm trying to be optimistic in thinking that things will be a bit closer to normal than they are now in terms of access to supplies. I'm planning to wait until ~mid third tri to not only see what we get at the baby shower (or whatever will happen), but also I don't want to order things that I really don't need yet and won't for months as there are mamas out there with little ones arriving now who really need those items and are likely having trouble getting them.

I'm trying to start thinking about car seats. Ugh, so much to consider! That's pretty much the only thing we really need. The baby will move into our bucket seat, D2 will move into the convertible, and we need to figure out the next option for D1. We were hoping to sell my car and move into an SUV this summer, but coronavirus, so who knows if or when that will happen. So I really want/need a very slim option. I was considering something like this. https://balmahome.com/product/child-secure-seatbelt-vest-portable-safety-seat/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI_5nm2d7o6AIVlsRkCh3I9QkOEAQYAiABEgKuevD_BwE Or a high back booster with a five-point harness. So the hard part is trying to figure out the narrowest option that doesn't break the bank.
@WishesSheCouldCook Girl, you and me both. I don't even want to know the amount of fun-sized Reese's and and Snickers I've polished off in the past two days.
@coldlife2 we are planning to buy an SUV before baby comes, too. I’m just hoping that with all of this craziness we can get a really good deal. I’ve heard that dealers will drop a car off for you to test drive as well, but we haven’t really explored that yet. Once you figure out which car you are interested in, the car seat for the littles group can help you figure out your seat configuration.
For everyone concerned about stocking up, all you really need when baby comes is some diapers, onesies, a car seat and a safe flat place for them to sleep. There’s a lot of other stuff that would be nice to have, but if you don’t have it you will be ok. Plus you can take anything from the hospital that’s not nailed down, so that should easily get you through the first few days if not weeks.
@roo_baby, yea, but it's not so much that. It's more our financial situation is going to be super up in the air in a month or two, not knowing where H's next jobs are going to be coming from. And we as likely as not would not be going through a dealership.
