I enjoy doing cross-stitch patterns, but they’re not useful for anything but decoration and my own entertainment. Would like to acquire a more useful crafty skill. Maybe crocheting? My great-grandma crocheted and I remember her letting me pull unfinished projects apart when I was little, I think if she’d made a mistake or something, which I enjoyed as a small child, ha.
Our nusery will have a woodland theme. So I am planning on making a felt mobile. I'll keep you updated, especially since I am almost certain it will lookvery different 🤣🤣🤣
I crochet, but haven’t since I got pregnant. I would love to make a baby blanket for my little guy, but with this carpal tunnel I’ve developed I don’t think that will be possible.
@cornichonmam That oven is adorable!! Also, no need to wait for the thread, feel free to start one anytime!! I kinda let this thread fall off as it didn't seem like many people were interested lol.

@ziggymama06 I'm knitting a jumper for DS now and I was going to start a
thread if no one else had by the time I'd finished.
The blanket looks lovely. @wednesdaygirl1019 When I had DS
my mother in law pulled out the blanket that she had kitted before my husband
was born. I washed it and it still looks like new, it’s just a pity I don't
like it very much.
My daughter has been on a lemon kick lately so I tried egg-less lemon bars yesterday. They were tart but I'm here for it! The recipe also says you can freeze them individually and I love the idea they'll keep for a while and I can pop one out in the summer for a refreshing little dessert.
I got a sewing machine for my birthday yesterday so I'm excited to learn how to use it! I want to make some dresses for my daughter and some baby clothes for 2.0

Happy birthday @samsonator!!! If you find any cute sewing patterns, please share. I haven't taken my machine out in a long time, but it could be fun to make some simple matching outfits.
Made chocolate sugar cookies today with the kiddo. It was really fun, the recipe is found here. They turned out fantastic and they almost taste like rich brownies. Pictures in the spoiler:
@samsonator Happy birthday!! What a great present and perfect timing. There's tons of YouTube videos that will teach you to sew on your specific machine and make various things.

OMG @maggied26 I saw a thing that said they have to be made in 18 min flat to keep kosher. No pressure! Not sure if you get that serious with it, but looks yummy!
@samsonator HBD! Have fun with your new machine! :)
So there's Dutch oven bread rising, egg-shaped sugar cookies cooling, lamb roast marinating, eggs (about to be boiling) and borscht pot simmering. I'd say we are off to a good start here! Lol
@BusinessWife yes that is the way that matzo is made for Passover usually. I cant figure I it how that is humanly possible haha. I'm not so strict about it myself, I didn't want to have to go to the store to try to find it
made some bunny shaped cinnamon rolls and banana muffins for our Easter brunch... now I need to figure out how to store/freeze the leftovers since our brunch was just me and my husband! 😂 the bunny cinnamon rolls turned out better than I thought they would
@tara4910 oof, you know I would love to? But I must have screwed something up. Tastes delicious! But it really fell flat, and doesn't look terribly impressive. Lol The one I made a few weeks ago that only rose for 30-60min actually came out much nicer! I can't remember where I shared the link; it might have been March Randoms? That - I would recommend, if I can find the link again, I'll re-share it. Cos that came out amazing, first try.
ETA here it is: I let rise a full hour, and then there's a typo, the salt should be tsp. ;) Larissa Another Day: Dutch Oven Artisan Bread https://www.larissaanotherday.com/2013/01/dutch-oven-artisan-bread.html?m=1 Enjoy!
NP @tara4910 in the interest of full disclosire, I can share the one I made today, too. It had a completely different, chewier crumb, and was also very tasty! Maybe you would have better luck with it rising than I did. (I think it peaked way early for me, like around only about 6 hours? So by 23 hours maybe it had just fallen again too much.).🤷 I am so new to bread making.
These are our cookies!
https://www.aheadofthyme.com/2017/03/easter-egg-sugar-cookies/
I did not have merengue powder, so I made old fashioned royal icing with powdered sugar, egg whites, and lemon juice.
(No bunny cake this year; DH insisted it would be way too much sweet to have in the house with just us, and no party to bring it to.)
@BusinessWife I thought about making old fashioned royal but just didn't wanna waste the egg, DD has been on a scrambled eggs for lunch kick. We make our glaze with 1.5 confectioners sugar, a teaspoon of light corn syrup, and little vanilla extract (or whatever flavor) and 1 or 2 tablespoons of water. I always add more water to thin mine out and make it pretty runny since I prefer a light glaze but if you add less water you can keep it stiff just like you can have the various versions of stiff for traditional royal icings. It dries nice and shiny just like royal does. I find this to be a great alternative when I don't have the powder on hand to make egg-less. Just thought I'd share in case you ever were looking to try a different way to do it.
Oh cool! Thanks! @RedBaramid unfortunately at the moment, corn syrup is still on our pantry shopping list, for like, the last 3 trips. 🤦 But I will remember that! I just added the yolks into our latkes so it worked out fine!
ETA I was sort of surprised how some colors ended up thicker than others, maybe just based on where in the mixing bowl they had come from? I didn't realize till I started working with it, and then I didn't want to go messing with it, but 🤷 it's all good!
I’ve been working on this ridiculous thing since I think 2015. Some summer when I was underemployed and still living in Michigan. I never had any plans for it other than using it to pass the time, and sometimes I go months without touching it. But it’s been useful in quarantine! Plus it’s the alphabet, so maybe I’ll actually finish it by the time this kid is ready to read! He’ll be the only kid in his elementary school who knows what a wentletrap is. 😆 (Whale? Wave? Walrus? I can think of a dozen other better Ws!)
They're so tasty, I can't stop eating them. The recipe could probably be adapted to snickerdoodles pretty easily by rolling them in cinnamon and sugar (I feel like someone was mentioning snickerdoodles on here the other day). Should I post a pic? They're not super attractive and I ran out of toppings...
Ta da! Mine look puffier than the recipe because I used non-dairy butter. Baking science is weird.
@WishesSheCouldCook If you change that dog to a cat, that is basically my family! Creepy
I made fiddleheads foraged from our own yard!

Finally, our fourth spring here and we were brave enough to pounce on these yummy delicacies! I'll have to make some more over the weekend, but I'm not sure how much longer they will be available.

@Businesswife I love fiddleheads! I had never heard of them until my husband and I went on our honeymoon in Maine a few years ago, and they were at the end of their fiddlehead season- we tried to eat as many as we could while we were there! I'm in St. Louis, and I've only seen them one time at the grocery store (and I've never seen them at any farmers markets). Looks delicious!
Re: Baking, Cooking, Sewing, Crafts, Etc April
I’ve been waiting for this thread! I made this for DS this evening. I just used one box, a little colored paper and a lot of hot glue.
Another chocolate chocolate chip muffin recipe again I over baked gosh darn!
