December 2020 Moms

Is anyone having their first child in December?

I found out I was pregnant yesterday and am excited / bit nervous. I did one of those Sainsbury's tests the day before and it was really faint and I couldn't tell if it was an evaporation line or not.
So I did a clear blue digital, which was so much easier to read, and here we are! My bf was v shocked but vv pleased 😊
Am dedicated to making my body a temple and learning to drink almost zero coffee (may have one every now and again for a treat)

Re: Is anyone having their first child in December?

  • Hi Daffofillegs! I am also having my first in December! I found out Monday through a Clear Blue digital too. It was a total surprise. I felt like I was about to get my period, but it was a few days late and because of the pandemic I figured I might as well buy a HPT on my trip to the store and not have to go again in a week. I was flabbergasted because...well, you know what they say to teenagers, "one time is all it takes!" (not a teenager at all but you know what I mean.) But, we are happy!

I am switching to 1-2 cups of decaf a day, but I can't cut out coffee all together!

  • @daffodillegs @Magda2014 hey gals! This is also my very first pregnancy! I was also Pleasantly surprised because it was my very first round of clomid and I really didn’t think it’d work the first time! My first response had a faint line 12DPO and I went if for a blood beta HCG today so I’ll get those results tomorrow! I’ll also be peeing on stick to make sure the line gets darker haha how do u gals feel about having a December baby?

Hey @tryingktogku I am a middle school teacher and theatre director (at school), and I am feeling so weird--I might not see my coworkers or kids again until September, when I will be showing, and then I will only see them again for a few months until birth. I am worried about disrupting my students' lives even more than they have been, and I am worried about the amount of time I will be able to commit to the school play after December. If I had planned things right, this would be a May baby, but...who has those kinds of planning skills, right?! Anyway, when these worries come up I remind myself how lucky I am to have conceived and that I am sure having this baby will clarify my priorities. How do you guys feel? I am just glad we MIGHT have some normalcy before we give birth, but who knows.
  • @Magda2014 that is so sweet of you to be thinking of the children! However ya gotta put you and baby first now! Did you go for a blood test? How long were you and your partner trying for? It’s funny because I always said I didn’t want a December baby but it took us 9months to conceive so I am just so grateful to HAVE conceived! I just got my beta back and it was only 20iui so I’ll need to get another on Monday to make sure my HCG has doubled so i am currently very anxious! However I do know it was only 12DPO when I got my beta and 20is “normal”/ within range for how early I am but it doesn’t make me feel any less anxious! I just really hope this baby stays with me!
  • If this sticks it'll be #2 for me :) GL to all of you here for the first time it's quite the ride!
  • Hi all! This will also be my first. Had a clearly positive pregnancy test yesterday after intermittent mild cramping and breast pain (still going through that right now). It was quite unexpected but my husband and I are excited! At the same time I am quite anxious about it as I am still going into work daily (I'm a healthcare worker). I am wondering if I need to give my supervisor a heads up much sooner than one normally would because of the pandemic... I am trying to make myself enjoy these days though where this is all still so new! Excited to hear all of your experiences through this journey too :)
  • @deetchum congrats and welcome to the club! I’m also a frontline worker (registered nurse) so I feel you on having to let “work” know much sooner than would have if COVID wasn’t happening. However we have to proceed our little beans now and I’m not sure about you but my work has been super great about it!
  • @tryingktogku I was at 11 DPO as well when I got my first beta done for this pregnancy, it was only at 19 iui. I went back in almost exactly 4 days later and had a second draw and the levels rose to 115 iui. Keeping my fingers crossed for you that you get positive results as well.
  • @rose1615 that’s good to know! Really puts my mind at ease. My pee stick lines are getting darker and my morning sickness is increasing so I’m taking all these as good signs! I’m getting my next beta on Wednesday so like 5 days apart because of my work schedule so as long as it’s up I’ll be happy!
  • Hi everyone ! Congrats to you all. Just found out yesterday that I am pregnant and I guess I’m definitely a little nervous about the overwhelmed healthcare facilities right now. Maybe because I’ve had one ectopic and one chemical before , I really really want this one to stick! At the same time, I am definitely concerned about getting the care needed through this process. I’m just about 4 wks 4 days today and had implantation spotting right about when I should have (first time for me). Had an HSG done earlier in March, right before the quarantines hit and I really feel like that helped! Even though all my results were good. Anyways, just wanted to say hello to all you December mamas ! I’m 36 and this will be our first baby if all goes well! Lots of prayers to all of you that this road ahead clears up a bit for all of us !
  • Oh and I’m due Dec 8th according to my ovulation date.
  • @excited1stimer welcome! I feel you on the concern for going in for appointments. I'm going to push off my first one as long as they'll let me since I've already been down this road before.

@tryingktogku and @rose1615 My beta was low and I’ve been a wreck. I go back Thursday for another draw and should have results Friday. Thinking of us all!!

  • @jbal918 praying for you! I get my second beta drawn tomorrow so I’m crossing my fingers for myself also!
  • @tryingktogku yay for rising numbers!
  • I'm having my first (well...). I delivered my son stillborn at 33w in November and we just found out today that we're pregnant! I'm scared but also overwhelmingly excited. They'll have the same due month (around the same week likely) and I know that it's going to be really emotionally rough, but for now just joy.
  • @tryingktogku Yay!!!! So happy for you!!

    I get mine tomorrow!

  • This is our first too, if everything goes well. We only want 1, especially since we waited so long to start trying.  I'll be 38 and he will be 41.
I'm curious how some of you are getting your HCG levels (are they called Betas?)  Is that something your doctor does? Mine doesn't want me to come in until I'm 10 weeks along.  Is there a home testing kit you buy?  I'd love to know.
  • @dancingtreepose the beta levels are what a doctor checks in a blood draw. I'm not doing that (this time) but I use wondfo pregnancy testing strips daily (showed ultra faint positive at 9DPO and getting darker from there) and I'm tracking that the lines are getting darker. In the end though you never know anything for sure until you go in for ultrasounds. For most women it's all autopilot at this point.
  • @dancingtreepose i did the same same thing as @willashbaby Too! That’s a good way to track things! The reason I got my beta HCG bloodwork drawn was because I took the fertility medication clomid in order to ovulate so they do the blood HCG to ensure everything is doing what it should be but the strip lines darkening works too and I peed on a stick every day from 11 DPO to 18dpo just to make sure they got darker too lol
  • First baby!!!  B)B)
  • Same due date here!
  • Me!! I think I am about 6 weeks and 3 days based on LMP, and my estimated due date is Dec 6th. This is my first pregnancy and I am so anxious. I can't even be productive because I spend so much time googling and stressing. It doesn't help that due to the virus the doctor is limiting contact. I set up a Zoom Consult for Thursday and then they will tell me next steps  :/  I hate note knowing what is going on in there.

I always said I hope I don't have a baby around the holidays but now I don't care lol my husband, mom, and a cousin all have birthdays around that time and all vent that their birthdays were overshadowed by the holidays. I am just so excited to be pregnant and didn't think it would happen this quickly so I will take anything! This past Christmas we were bored and I told my husband it made me realize more that I am ready to have kids, so I am excited to have a little babe this Christmas! It is my favorite holiday and it makes things so much more special.

For the first-time parents-  have you thought about starting to collect baby stuff or is it too soon?

I know it's super early but... most of my friends have toddlers and are starting to get rid of baby stuff, so I feel like I need to strike while the iron is hot. One friend gave me her crib back in December so I have that.  She needed it out of her house. Same friend is saving me her breast pump that she used just once and a bunch of clothes. Another friend (who doesn't know I'm pregnant but knows I've been trying) has dropped off a big bin of cloth diapers and newborn clothes.  Then today, I just picked up a free changing table that someone posted on a local neighborhood forum.  It's a really nice changing table and I traded a dozen fresh eggs from my chickens for it.

For both economical and environmental reasons, I'm trying to score as much free and pre-owned stuff as I can.  Except a car seat, I'll buy that new when the time is much closer.  We aren't poor but we do have a tight budget! So I'm starting to keep my eyes and ears open for people letting go of their baby accessories :-)

@dancingtreepose if you get it free/cheap go for it! That pump though, what pump is it? If it's a closed system like spectra OK, if it's not, then no. You should get one anyway through your insurance.
  • @willashbaby good point!  I will look into that.
  • @dancingtreepose I haven’t actually bought anything yet but I too have gotten some hand me downs like a car seat my GF just used for her last baby that’s good for another few years! I actually started a private registry just to tally up how much I think we will need to be spending and I found that very helpful! I think it all depends on you and how you feel about it!
  • I had a chemical pregnancy last month so hoping this little bean will stick for our first born.
  • This will hopefully be our first, if all goes well. We lost a pregnancy this past December (my EDD is the day before the anniversary of this loss....cool?). Excited, but also very anxious and kind of skittish about preparing. At least this time it'll be easier to hide the pregnancy since it's not like we're going to parties and have to explain why I'm not drinking.
  • Hey Everyone. Had a miscarriage In Nov 2019 so if this little one sticks, this will be my first baby too :) I’m very anxious but trying to stay calm. I’m 4 weeks and 5 days. I have started to collect stuff already cause I’m hopeful for this pregnancy. I have my first US booked for June 1st cause that’s the earliest they could get me in.The ultrasound clinic is sooo crazy bogged down and booked up. Doctor is not sending me for Betas either at this time so I’m super anxious and nervous but hoping everything will be ok till June.

Hoping for you, @mindyb2019! My OB-GYN is always super busy, but I think I was 10th in line when I called for an appointment yesterday, which is crazy. I only have my 8-week appointment, I'm not going in for other testing beforehand (if that makes you feel better).

My husband was kind of upset when I broke it to him yesterday that he can't go with me. Partially because he wants to be there and is very excited, but also to support me because it's going to be hard emotionally. I'm actually going to ask the office if I can call him on Zoom or something while I'm there.
  • @akoros thank you. My husband was also sad when I told him he couldn’t come to the US appointment.
  • We are expecting our first child.  Pretty excited but also a little nervous.  My husband is very stressed about it, but thankfully he will have some time to adjust to the idea.  It will be the first grandbaby on either side, so I think people are pretty excited.
  • Hello lovely ladies,
This is also my first pregnancy and the little one is due Dec 12th from my random guess. Still waiting on my first doc appt and feeling VERY excited. Noticed a bit of blood today in my pee so feeling a bit anxious but from what I read this is "normal" so hoping that to be true! Only time will tell. How has everyone been feeling physically?
  • Hello! I will also be having my first in December! My due date is 12/15/20!! I got my first ultra sound today! Still to early to see much but I got my first ultra sound picture and get to go back in two weeks.
  • Hey everyone ! Im first time mom too! Couldn't be more happy.   What are some of your symptoms...im hungry more and tired but no morning sickness yet...when does that usually start? Anyone know? Anyone experiencing it yet?
  • My due date is 12/15/2020! I got my first ultrasound today! And go back in 2 weeks for my second. Im so excited. This is my first!!
  • Found out this week I'm (somewhat unexpectedly) pregnant! Due date is showing 12/26 so we are veryyy early. Appt with OB/GYN on May 6th (seems so far away)! I knew I was pregnant because I started getting nausea like over a week ago. Didn't get a positive test until I actually missed my period, but this is our first so we are kind of freaking out!
