@wednesdaygirl1019@ziggymama06 I wish so badly I had a green thumb ☹️ I have gardens that desperately need some TLC. It would be a dream if I could turn one into a veggie garden.
Oh man I remember the July14 drama spilling into the world I had no idea it would be so epic we would talk about it in 2020. I was a September 14 momma and I am pretty sure I remember people getting banned for talking about it. I wasn't as active there as I am here because I was working third shift during that pregnancy.
I have some flower beds I've been tending on the nice days and it's felt good to get outside and away from my phone. I have a spot where I'd like to add some raised beds but am not sure where to start in terms of finding frames for them that are easy to put together myself. They will likely go in the front yard (common here, everyone in my neighborhood has really wild front gardens) so would love any suggestions of ones that might look nice and be easy to construct.
I know there’s more awesome threads but I can’t think of them. Back in the day of the Wild West of the bump was some chaos! was June 14 the lesbian catfish? I remember a lesbian couple catfish story but can’t think what month/year it was
TTC1: May 2015
Primary IF May 2016; Failed HSG; Scheduled Lap Sept. 2016
@wednesdaygirl1019 We have a small garden - last year was our first summer in this house and we were most successful with zucchini, yellow squash, tomatillos, some early peas. Got a couple jalapeños and other spicy peppers. Not successful with the eggplant, and the tomatoes were only so-so, I think I didn’t water them enough. We also have a marionberry and an artichoke plant that were here when we moved in and come back every year!
Over this past winter our garden space got taken over by grass and weeds. Was going to rent a tiller, but not doing that now I guess. We have one raised box, so I figure I can handle getting that one ready by hand at least, I hope. Think I’m going to try to start some pea seeds indoors next week, I’ve never started from seeds!
@rivercitynik The first raised garden bed DH and I ever made was out of cinder blocks! We laid them in out in the shape we wanted and it worked beautifully for a few years until we moved. I put marigolds in some of the holes in the blocks to help with bug control and to add a little color. The one raised bed we have now is made out of wood. I bet Youtube has some tutorials on how to make them cheap and easy.
@viola_mama An artichoke plant sounds fun! Those don't grow in my zone, at least I've never seen them. I hope you have success starting seeds indoors, I was not successful the year I tried that. Now I stick to buying small plants from the garden center.
@coldlife You could always try container growing! I plan to try some herbs in containers this year, and I have seen people grow tomatoes in pots with good success.
@charhar0820 I wouldn't say I have a super green thumb. I definitely have killed a LOT of plants, or waited too long to harvest and they'd already gone to seed. Also some plants are definitely easier than others, so I try to stick to those when possible!
@BusinessWife@ziggymama06 I usually only do summer crops here (tomatoes, jalapenos, bell peppers, cucumbers). I have one raised garden bed to use. I am putting radish and carrot seeds in the ground tomorrow, neither of which I have grown before but I love them so hoping I have good success! My catnip came back from last year, which the neighborhood cats (and my own) will be happy to hear. So did my chives; I really need to find a way to use those more. I'm also planning to try some container stuff, mostly some herbs since I've only had really good luck with basil in the past (and the chives, but it helps that those are perennial where I live).
I've never done vegetables but aspire to if we can build a raised garden away from my destructive dogs. We do lots of flowers! It's always a fun time of year to pick out our plants and work on the Spring landscaping. This year we are starting a few flowers from seeds for the first time ever. So far so good 🤞 I'm hoping they will survive so we can transfer them to our flower boxes.
@sarah0985 lol yes I think you are right about the June 14 one being that particular catfish. It was a dramatic year. For sure the bump is a very different place now, and I think a lot of it has to do with how internet users have changed over the years. I don't know if other BMBs are like this one but I'm very thankful for the overwhelmingly positive place this is.
@RedBaramid DH and I keep trying to have mini "date nights" over dinner and finally threw in the towel -- we need to not talk to each other right now. Movies are perfect.
@samsonator So hard when our four-legged friends are sick and we don't know what to do for them. I hope he's on the mend, soon, and that he gets to celebrate his birthday properly when feeling better.
@wednesdaygirl1019 We have a garden! Well, DH does, I just act enthusiastic when he provides his daily updates. It's small - herbs, tomatoes and some swiss chard. The herbs (dill, oregano, parsley, cilantro, thyme, basil) are awesome and I feel like really do save us money at the grocery store. The tomatoes not so much...we still haven't figured out how to save them from birds and critters...but they make DH happy.
This is totally random but I'm supper pleased with myself because
I think I’ve been able to fix my robot vacuum. I found a YouTube video that had
most of the instructions, but I had to take quite a bit more of it apart to get
to the motor to oil it. I ended up taking about 75% of it apart. Most
importantly I managed to put it back together again even though I must have
taken 40+ screws out of it. It was working afterwards, I’m going to charge it
fully and then put it on a proper run tomorrow. It felt good to do something so
productive, hopefully if it works and I’ve saved some $$$.
My husband built us a vegetable garden box so I’m excited to get to plant some vegetables! We are starting some indoors from seeds now and some of them at least seem to be sprouting
@wednesdaygirl1019 ah! DD and I just harvested some wild chives today! I have been making an awesome sourdough scallion pancake I can't wait to do with the chives tomorrow.
@cornichonmam that's impressive! Usually DH gets relegated to that sort of thing lol
Holy moly. Just browsed June '16. This should be the next Netflix docuseries.
Guys, it's quiet for the first time in my house since 7:00AM. I don't know if being around each other 24/7, with no breaks and no other people, is just getting to us or what, but the last couple of days with my son have been beyond tough. We have fun, so it's not like it's stressful all day, every day, but around lunchtime, he starts to go downhill, refuses to nap, and just gets meaner and meaner as the day goes on. I've lost my patience with him so many times, and I feel terrible for snapping and raising my voice. His attitude is so hard to keep under control, and I know losing my own cool isn't teaching him any positive lessons. Yesterday he bit my arm, hit me in the stomach, and smacked DD on the back. It's like, how many times do we need to have the "nice hands" discussion before something sticks? I'll punish him by putting him in his room, then I'll hear various books, toys, and whatever else being thrown around, so I'll go up and tell him to shut it down, because that's not how we treat our things. (ETA: For his temper, I've also tried breathing exercises with him, suggested he yell into a pillow when he feels the need to throw something, and even demonstrated, bought him the Conflict Resolution Hammerhead book and plush from Slumberkins that teaches kiddos how to handle their emotions, slowly counted to ten with him...all that good stuff. Please tell me this is just a phase.)
It's one thing after the next, and without being able to tap out at any point is exhausting. And DH isn't coming back as early as we thought after all, so there's that, too.
I think this quarantine is making us all a little crazy. Today, before things got wild, we made homemade play-doh and baked some homemade bread. Yesterday we baked chocolate chip cookies from scratch together. I've been getting them out into the woods or on the trails for a walk every day, with the exception of the past two days, because it's been gloomy and chilly. We play in his room, listen to music, read books, do flashcards, practice writing letters, etc., etc., etc. I've tried to come up with things to fill the days, but it's still like, holy shit, could we just get out of this house and see other humans, PLEASE. I'm losing it over here.
@tyrion_ He'll be four in July. His emotions are so big right now, I just don't know how to harness them. Sending lots of good vibes your way as you navigate a similar experience. It's no joke, and bedtime is always a welcome relief for us, too.
@lachnessmomster I’m sorry that you are having a rough couple of days with your kids. I know you are just venting but try putting him down for a nap a little earlier than you typically would? Maybe that would help. I know for my daughter, who will also be four in July, if she is “pushed” to far it’s just a down hill roller coaster ride, and not the fun one. So if I can catch the signs early enough I will put her down before she gets to her breaking point.

@blackgirlmagic Thanks, lady! I usually try to put him down right after lunchtime. I'm not sure if he would go for the late morning nap like his sister, but I could always try. Typically, I'll put him down, he'll immediately get up when I close the door, play quietly for about 20 minutes or so, then start screaming from behind his gate (his room is near a staircase, so we installed a gate) that he's ready to come down. He'll do that for as long as it takes, progressively getting louder and angrier. The kid has some stamina, and eventually I'll just give in, because I know he's not going to give up.
He was up before 6:30 this morning, so he should be a lot of fun come bedtime again this evening. 😅
@lachnessmomster I'm sorry you're on the struggle bus right now, I remember when my kiddo was that age, she had a temper like fire. It took so little to throw her off her routine and then when it was off the whole day was a battle ground. I still privately refer to her as my little drama queen but she's doing better than I expected with the lock down. I do suspect that's because she's got both mommy and daddy home all day to do different things with her though, I know doing it on your own is a completely different bucket of bolts though. Good luck, have yourself a treat after you get them tucked in tonight, if you can maybe declare some day soon a silly fort day or pajama day or something "wild" to maybe hit the reset button. I had to do that one day last week and it destroyed my living room but turning the whole space into a mega blanket fort even just for the afternoon/evening really helped us reset some bad attitude we had growing around here.
@lachnessmomster no advice, sorry, just empathy. I am going crazy with my 3.5 yo and 1 yo. I’m exhausted and just want a BREAK. I hope today’s a better day!
@laur84ns All of our babies are almost exactly the same amount of time apart. For me, DS is a bit over 3 1/2 years, DD is almost 1 year and 1/2, and now a new one on the way in August. Sink or swim time, baby. Glad I'm not the only one suffering!
Today has been a gorgeous day, so we went into the woods, played outside with chalk, I threw some baseballs for DS to hit, and then we grabbed some popsicles and went on a quick walk down the bike path. Of course, there's still been plenty of snark, attitude, and disobedience, but it hasn't been quite as intense as when we're all stuck inside together.
Okay, I have a quick question. Has anyone called their OB to come in between assignments to be put on the doppler? I am 20.5 weeks and still don't feel my little girl. And I have to admit the virus craziness and cabin fever are getting the best of me. I just feel it would be a big help for me mentally...
I haven't, but I did in early days when I was coming in anyway, and found out they were not doing a scan. They had to warn me they couldn't make any promises bc I wasn't too far along at the time, but otherwise it was nbd. If you are concerned you can always call, and see what they tell you. (((Hugs))) @strawberryfields82 I'm sorry you're worrying right now. Deep breaths. Most likely it really is the stress just getting to you, which is totally understandable. Maybe a positive affirmation would be helpful between now and when you can next be seen? "All is well. My body and my baby are healthy and strong." Whatever is calming for you to repeat to yourself when you feel the anxiety creeping in... ❤️
@strawberryfields82 I did not and I didn't star feeling true movement until two to three days before my 22 weeks. I believe the range for feeling kicks is between 18-22 weeks, so you still have time to feel movement. I'm sorry that not feeling movement yet is causing you so much anxiety. If you want to call them to see what they say about coming in, it doesn't hurt.

@strawberryfields82 I did at a few weeks ago before all this craziness started. At the time they were willing to accommodate but I’m not sure they would feel the same way about having someone come in for not even a regularly schedule appointment when they are trying to limit the amount of people they see for even the standard appointments. It doesn’t hurt to ask and see what they say though...
@strawberryfields82 I agree with @fitandnerdy that in normal times, it probably wouldn't be a big deal, but now when most offices are switching to virtual appointments vs. coming in in person anyway, I wonder if they'll be as accommodating. It never hurts to call, though! During my last pregnancy, I snagged a doppler on Amazon for around $65, if that's something you think might help put your mind at ease. My office recently even gave an optional recommendation to pick one up since prenatal checkups have been scaled back. (ETA: This a recommendation for us to purchase our own. Just wanted to clarify that my office is not handing out dopplers. ) We've had conversations previously on this board regarding dopplers and the potential risks, added/heightened anxiety if the heartbeat can't be found right away, overuse due to convenience, etc. You just have to do your research and assess your own situation to decide if that's an appropriate option for you.
OR my personal advice is just to wait it out. As @blackgirlmagic said, some ladies take a little longer to feel movement. Especially since you're in the homestretch of when movement generally starts to be a regular occurrence, I'd say be patient and know that it is coming. Your checkups have been good thus far, your body knows what to do, and odds are more in favor of everything working just as it should than your baby being in any danger.
@strawberryfields82 I agree with the other ladies! Just like you, I too had anxiety in between appointments when baby was too small to feel any movement. I was around 18 weeks when I was at my monthly appt with my GP looking forward to her using the Doppler to hear baby’s heartbeat! Well, she couldn’t find it. (Enter extreme anxiety) the next week I had my anatomy scan, booked early at 19w due to dr not finding baby’s heartbeat. Baby was totally fine. Bouncing around.
That being said. I too was thinking about getting a doppler for home use but with my experience at my GP’s office, not finding the heartbeat quite so easily - I decided not too, due to the fact that if I couldn’t find it myself I’d just be adding that extra anxiety. Trust in yourself. I’m sure you’ll be feeling flutters/kicks/punches/flips in no time at all!
Everyone is different in when they start to feel baby!! ((Hugs))
Muahaha, I got my husband to cave in and let me just get Disney + today. My child is so happy to be able to watch Mickey Mouse and Vamparina (and so many other things she's been missing honestly). I'm just excited for some of the classic movies I'd been missing and I'm hyped to watch Onward later tonight.
Thought I’d drop a cute dog picture here in case anyone needs one. When we ordered his food we also got this triceratops for him that was 50% off and didn’t realize how big and heavy it was. It’s truly hilarious watching him drag it around.
@RedBaramid I'm watching Onward right now! It's cute! The last 2 weekends I have done a movie marathon of a series. I couldn't come with a series of movies for this weekend so I'm currently winging it and seeing what sounds good.
Rode to the big town and did target pick up and Chick-fil-A. Got some busy thing for dd 1 and her Easter basket. ive woken up early this past 2 mornings and drank coffee and had quiet time before she got up in the comfee chair in my room and it’s made a huge difference.
Wipes have been so hard to come by and I was having some anxiety about it I was able to snag a box for my target order so I’ve checked that off my list for the time being.
@WishesSheCouldCook Some relaxation before the day begins sounds so nice! DD had me up at 5:30 this morning, so I took advantage of the early hour to book a Wal-Mart pickup. Even that early, the first available slot was tomorrow at 1:00PM. They go quick! And I hear ya on the wipes situation. I can't believe how hard it is to get them.
@lachnessmomster It's funny what is sold out in some places and not in others. There are plenty of nappies and wipes here but I can't get tinned tomatoes or flour at all.
@lachnessmomster and @cornichonmam Flour was just friggen GONE here too, until my husband braved the international market instead of the Aldi for our regular stuff since he was desperately missing some regular ingredients we had long run out of. He couldn't find flour in the regular baking area but when he went to the Japanese section of the market he was able to a bag of all purpose wheat flour. It's getting the job done here for us.
Our house went on the market on Friday, we had 4 showings this weekend (two yesterday and two today) and received three offers! Our house is officially contingent and we can start looking for a new house in Indiana!
