From your earliest memory as a child, what did you want to be when you grew up? What did you actually become?

  • The earliest things I remember wanting to be were an artist (picture book illustrator basically) and a teacher.

I’m a social worker. I have zero artistic talent. I work in a community mental health clinic.
  • I wanted to be a mom, a ballerina, and an apple picker. (We used to visit my grandparents every summer in central WA where there are lots of orchards.) My brothers really teased me about the apple picker comment, lol.

In reality I work in an office doing accounting/billing/sales support and customer support.

  • For the majority of my childhood I wanted to be a herpetologist. I watched animal planet religiously, especially the The Crocodile Hunter and Jeff Corwin. The job market for herpetologists is not exactly booming 😂

In reality I manage a hotel.

  • Oh this is fun! I wanted to be an actress for a long time but then decided I wanted to be a professional chef. Got accepted into culinary school and then just decided it wasn't for me. I still love to cook, though!

My job now is a Realtor. I love it! It lets me stay home with my son but still provide a great life for him.
  • When I was little I always wanted to be a teacher. I would tutor younger kids from a young age so I always thought that I would end up as a teacher.

Once I got into HS and college I wanted to go into politics as a political advisor. I got my degree in political science, but ended up running a pet sitting business after college graduation. It was super successful and flexible, but a lot of hard work.

Since having DD I am a SAHM. I’ve loved it for the most part. Some days are more difficult than others, but we’ve made a great group of friends and I get to take her to so many fun places during the week.
  • My mother tells me I wanted to work at McDonald’s so I could eat lots of French fries 🤷🏻‍♀️

Once I got into HS, I decided I wanted to be a nurse which is what I ended up doing.
I am currently a SAHM, not by choice, and am looking forward to returning to nursing hopefully in about a year when we move again.

I always wanted to be a nurse, other than in 5th grade when I became obsessed with dolphins and wanted to be a marine biologist haha.

In real life I am a RN and I’m in school for my masters to teach nursing.

    Wow! Lots of nurses!

i always wanted to be an actress. I’m a nurse.
  • I really wanted to be a vet growing up. Specifically for horses. Somehow that got morphed into becoming a doctor. Now that I’ve been a doctor for 12+ years, I really want to be a vet in a zoo when I grow up.
  • I remember wanting to be a marine biologist, but when I realized that meant having to work with blood it changed to elementary teacher.

I started college going for education and switching to hospitality. My title is concierge but it’s a sales driven position.

I remember wanting to be a truck driver 🤷🏻‍♀️

I ended up going to nursing school.  I currently work for an insurance company as an RN case manager and I’m an Army reservist on the side.

ETA: my username updated, I did it a few weeks ago but it didn’t take until now.  I was sbeecy before, weird it took so long.
  • As a kid I wanted to be a mom and an artist or art teacher. In high school, I wanted to do architecture until I realized during a design class that I am way too much of a perfectionist. I went to college for graphic design and then worked as a manager for a bank before getting married and moving overseas. We moved back pregnant and I’ve been a stay at home mom ever since. I’d still like to do something creative eventually, either in design or as a photographer.
  • I think when I was really little I wanted to be a singer or an actress. That was a huge dream because I can’t sing to save my life. 😂 Once I was in HS I realized I really just wanted to be a housewife. I know it sounds terrible, but I promise it’s not so bad. I worked for 18 years and now I’m a SAHM. I suck at it, especially the housework part but I love it so much more than any job I had.

  • My earliest memory as a child was wanting to be a singer. I am not terrible but there is no way I would have ever made it! In high school I wanted to be an interior designer, but by the time I got to college I realized my love for teaching and decided to major in that. I am a preschool teacher and I enjoy it so much!
  • When I was 4 I wanted to become a wife. My dad's wife actually. My mom had to explain me that even though I love my dad very much, this is not how it works :) In highschool I wanted to be a movie director or psychologist. Career in film wasn't an option where I was growing up so I got degree in Organizational Psychology and later in HR. Now I work in HR for a tech startup which keeps me too busy at times. I learned how to make videos and now make travel videos from my trips so being a director is now a hobby.
