When I was about 8 I always pretended to run an orphanage. I made birth certificates for all my stuffed animals and then would have the adoptive parents (my sister) sign them when the animal got adopted. I have no idea what that would actually look like as a real adult career (probably a case worker for foster care which I could never emotionally do) but that’s what I wanted to be. Other than that I always wanted to be a mom.
I became a first grade teacher. Which some days I feel isn’t far off from that 9 year old dream lol. I work in a Title 1 school so a lot of my students come from hard home lives and when they are in my class I kind of “adopt” them in a way. Lots of them I feel like years later are still my “adopted” kiddos. I always tell other people “once they're mine, they’re always mine.”
I’m quitting to be a SAHM this next year and I’m so so happy for that. I think that it’s really where my heart is at right now. After my babies are grown maybe I’ll talk DH into adopting or fostering.
I wanted to be a mom, a ballerina, and an apple picker. (We used to visit my grandparents every summer in central WA where there are lots of orchards.) My brothers really teased me about the apple picker comment, lol.
In reality I work in an office doing accounting/billing/sales support and customer support.
I wanted to be a mom and a ballerina too 😂🙌 I don't think my choices were very inspired though as I grew up hardcore fundamentalist and being a mom was the only thing I was allowed to be. I fantasized about being a ballerina alone in the middle of the night though haha. When I got a little bit older I wanted to get out of religion, date someone "normal", work at real jobs, and wear whatever I wanted. All the things I'm doing now so 💁
For the majority of my childhood I wanted to be a herpetologist. I watched animal planet religiously, especially the The Crocodile Hunter and Jeff Corwin. The job market for herpetologists is not exactly booming 😂
Oh this is fun! I wanted to be an actress for a long time but then decided I wanted to be a professional chef. Got accepted into culinary school and then just decided it wasn't for me. I still love to cook, though!
My job now is a Realtor. I love it! It lets me stay home with my son but still provide a great life for him.
My father brainwashed my brother and I extensively when we were kids that we were both going to be doctors. Which is what he had wanted for himself but not achieved.
What I actually am is a clinical psychologist in a maximum security men's prison.
Current pregnancy - First BFP on 1/4/22. Due date 9/13/22.
Four prior losses, no living children - 1 first trimester miscarriage, 1 blighted ovum, 1 chemical, and one extreme premature live birth daughter who died at 15 days old.
I wanted to save lives in some capacity. I went through a phase of wanting to be a doctor or a vet.
I’m an EMT, soooo I still save lives, but I don’t get the paycheck of a doctor. Womp womp. 😂 I also waitress/bartend part time because I like to get out of the house and make a little extra moolah to make up for that lacking doctor I come. 😂
I wanted to be a garbage man during the day and a ballerina at night. I was fascinated by trucks but especially garbage trucks as a kid. My grandpa bought me an orange metal garbage truck to play with. I loved that truck.
I’m in the Navy and have been for almost 19 years.
I always wanted to be an architect, but then I took a drafting class in HS and I was not very good at it. I also didn’t like it very much. I ended up becoming an elementary teacher and then went back to school to become a speech/language pathologist.
When I was little I always wanted to be a teacher. I would tutor younger kids from a young age so I always thought that I would end up as a teacher.
Once I got into HS and college I wanted to go into politics as a political advisor. I got my degree in political science, but ended up running a pet sitting business after college graduation. It was super successful and flexible, but a lot of hard work.
Since having DD I am a SAHM. I’ve loved it for the most part. Some days are more difficult than others, but we’ve made a great group of friends and I get to take her to so many fun places during the week.
I really wanted to be a vet growing up. Specifically for horses. Somehow that got morphed into becoming a doctor. Now that I’ve been a doctor for 12+ years, I really want to be a vet in a zoo when I grow up.
As a kid I wanted to be a mom and an artist or art teacher. In high school, I wanted to do architecture until I realized during a design class that I am way too much of a perfectionist. I went to college for graphic design and then worked as a manager for a bank before getting married and moving overseas. We moved back pregnant and I’ve been a stay at home mom ever since. I’d still like to do something creative eventually, either in design or as a photographer.
As a kid, I wanted to be an astronaut or an artist. In high school, that changed to doctor. I am now a doctor but in a non-traditional specialty, so not what I pictured myself doing as a teen, but I love it!
I think when I was really little I wanted to be a singer or an actress. That was a huge dream because I can’t sing to save my life. 😂 Once I was in HS I realized I really just wanted to be a housewife. I know it sounds terrible, but I promise it’s not so bad. I worked for 18 years and now I’m a SAHM. I suck at it, especially the housework part but I love it so much more than any job I had.
My earliest memory as a child was wanting to be a singer. I am not terrible but there is no way I would have ever made it! In high school I wanted to be an interior designer, but by the time I got to college I realized my love for teaching and decided to major in that. I am a preschool teacher and I enjoy it so much!
I wanted to be an actress and a fashion designer. My grandma taught me to sew when I was 4 and I became totally obsessed and it never went away! I went to college for apparel design and merchandising and ended up as a stylist. I love my job!
I wanted to be an author or a teacher. I work in ticket operations for a professional sports team. I feel SO lucky because as a little girl I didn’t even know that I COULD dream to work in sports. Now there are all kinds of women in sports, and it could be a dream for any of my kids, boys or girls!
When I was 4 I wanted to become a wife. My dad's wife actually. My mom had to explain me that even though I love my dad very much, this is not how it works In highschool I wanted to be a movie director or psychologist. Career in film wasn't an option where I was growing up so I got degree in Organizational Psychology and later in HR. Now I work in HR for a tech startup which keeps me too busy at times. I learned how to make videos and now make travel videos from my trips so being a director is now a hobby.
