Weekend GTKY- A Name You Would Never

Re: Weekend GTKY- A Name You Would Never

  • I can’t imagine naming my kids anything too common. Emily, Sara, Jessica, william, michael, John etc. bleh too overused

i have a name that people have heard and know but isn’t too common - only one other the whole time in school growing up and I really like that.

  • I agree with everyone saying -den/dyn names and made up names. My biggest no-go though would be Lucy. I think it's a lovely name, and I am actually a little sad that it's an automatic no. DS's nickname is Desi, so having a Desi and a Lucy would just take it to a weird place, especially since there would be a decent chance she'd be a redhead.
  • As a teacher, there are so many hard nos based on students that I've had lol.

But outside of that realm, I'm also on the anti-Michael bandwagon. For girls, I'm not a Gretchen fan.
  • I have a longer first name and it has always irritated me, so I like short names. My son is Levi. I don’t like made up names or way out there spellings, and I also try to avoid names of exes (no Chelsea or Bryan for us). I wish I knew what future Siri/Alexa type names are on the horizon. My poor niece is 13 and her name is Alexa. She now hates it. It’s not like my sister knew that was going to happen.
  • @mkp0903 I feel that way about all the Elsa and Anna’s born before frozen. I’d want to change my name.
  • I met a Moana at work last year. I felt bad for her, even though Moana is an awesome character.
  • @NME44 Poor Moana! At least parents of young kids spell and pronounce her name properly.
  • I love the name Elsa and have been debating if it has to be an automatic no with myself. Just when the Frozen fever starts to die down, Frozen II came along!

  • @Kurtni, there are worse characters to have your name associated with. I, for one, love the whole Frozen franchise.
  • There is a guy that I work with whose two daughters are Elsa and Eriel (Ariel).  I often wonder how they'll feel about their names when they're older.
