@BusinessWife when my sil was pregnant with their first and first grandchild. They gave my mil a childrens book she could keep and a onsie they took back. In the boook they wrote please read this to me every night -baby (our last name) You could do that.

@psychobutthead yeah that's sweet. I feel like nobody else Really wants an ornament with a miniature speck on an ultrasound pic (like a pic when the actual baby is here is different) and plus she doesn't celebrate Christmas. Also, what is she going to do with a teeny tiny onesie? I got a 6m size for SIL if she wants to keep it for when she's babysitting tho. 🤷. After I posted I got a mug that ships prime...

So that should be a nice thing, I hope she can actually enjoy using at home and think about the (growing) family. ❤️❤️❤️
@BusinessWife the mug looks like a nice idea. Is this your 2nd child? You coukd give a real gift from your kid and then the mug be from the new grandbaby?

@psychobutthead Yep! (Grand)baby No. 2 on our side, and she has two granddaughters already that are SILs kids. So that's a good idea. I have a little time since we won't see her till Sunday after, probably. I need to figure out something cute she can make / paint for her, I guess. They send all these cute projects home from school and I just feel like such a slacker mom with no ideas, and I feel like I'm not set up either :/ I do have something I need to work on at the computer for our nieces too, so maybe I can find something on Pinterest she might like ...
@BusinessWife i got you covered. By a canvas at walmart. Buy christmas colored craft paints they run like 99 cents each.
Draw a curly black line with a paint pen. Have the kiddo dip a finger in the paints and out them on the line. They will be christmas lights. Write merry christmas really nice and pretty and the year on the back and which grandkid it is.
Could also do your kids feet prints turn them upside down and make them into reindeers.
Diy christmas decor. Most grandparents love that stuff. I would love to make things like that. But my mil i a c u next Tuesday and appreciates nothing. Gives away gifts bought for her and throws out handmade gifts. After my daughter cried from them complaining about the birthday cake i helped my daughter make for my mil i don't do crap for them.

Omg. She sounds like a peach! 😳@psychobutthead I love the Christmas decor ideas! I wish I had thought of setting myself up for all that soon enough for the family party we are attending tomorrow.... :/ but at least I'll be more prepared for next year. 🤷 I think I may try the lights and the reindeer for smil, fil, and/or cousins on DHs side we will see on Xmas Eve.
I just ordered a watercolor set, paint pens, and a pack of 8x10 canvas paper, so I should be able to get some practice in that way...
ETA the Amazon stuff got expensive, and wont arrive in time for the Xmas Eve event either, so I just cancelled it all, and we'll have to scope out Walmart for our art supplies. But I'm actually looking forward to it now!
I stumbled upon this I might try for MIL
She left the church at some point during/after the divorce, and seems like she has been searching for the past several years since I've known her. Now she's fallen in with this weird group that doesn't celebrate anything that's not explicitly stated in the Bible / Old Testament. 🙄 As in, Christmas is just a made up co-opting of heathan festivals, JC wasn't born on Dec 25th, so it's an actual sacrilege to have a Christmas tree or celebrate his birth at or around the solstice. Easter = same. I just can't. It's so sad to me. My mom was SO. INTO. CHRISTMAS!!! She would have been spoiling the pants off her grandbabies if she were around to do so, and ALL IN on the holiday crafting. It really breaks my heart that they will never have that kind of Grandma. :/
But I digress. Lol. This may have devolved into something more suited for the craft thread / my therapist 🙃🙃🙃 but anyway I'll try to AW if I manage to get something to turn out semi-passable. Thanks for the hints!

@BusinessWife yep she is thats why we are no contact with the husbands fam.
Aww I'm sorry that your mil is that way about Christmas. But thats just all the more reason to make sure you make special traditions at christmas with them to make it special. I hope one day way wayway way in the future I can be that kind of grandma.

@BusinessWife That's a beautiful idea. I'm sorry that your babies won't have the type of grandmother that you envisioned, but I agree with @psychobutthead about creating traditions in your house. This way your kids will grow up knowing that you love Christmas and you can pass down traditions and things you did with your mother. So even though they didn't get to meet her, they'll know all about how much she loved the holidays and fun crafty things she did with their mother. Sending hugs your way ❤

We gave my mom a gift on the first night of Hanukkah, a gift bag with some small bags of coffee from her favorite local shop. Beneath them was a mug that said "Grandma." She wept. Openly. In a cafe.
At almost 9 weeks, we finally told a few people this weekend lol.
First we told my sister who has two kiddos. Her youngest was born in November, so ours will be close in age They recently moved into their house, so we came over "to see the new place." I put the message in her housewarming card which she was reading aloud to the little ones. Her reaction as she got to that part was priceless. We're really close, so I've been the most excited to tell her.
We also told MH's parents. It's their first grandchild, so we originally wanted to find them some kind of cute grandparents-themed trinket. But we procrastinated and then were surprised to not find anything like that at Hallmark. Instead, we bought them a cute calendar and wrote in the due date in August. I tried to lead them in the right direction with "I really like the August picture" But then my MIL got distracted by some other pictures on her way to that month and forgot what she was doing and set it aside to open the rest of the gift lol. So, MH had to redirect her like "Wait! You gotta look at the August picture." At that point, I thought they might figure it out given our weird obsession with August, but they didn't. Their reaction was really sweet. We also got them a "Baby's first year" photo frame that has a little place for a picture each month. MH had one just like it for his grade school years, so I thought it was a cute replacement.
I told close family and friends right away. Nothing special. I will announce on Valentine’s Day. I got my daughter and I heart shaped sunglasses and she was so excited.
OMG sooooooo many cute stories and ideas. I told my husband by putting the test in a little Christmas box the week before Christmas (when i got my BFP). I put some confetti and bells on top of the test. I gave him a card that said (check your stocking) and the box was waiting in there. I basically did the same thing with my first except it wasn’t Christmasy but it was a box with confetti that said “baby” and a card.
We told our families on Christmas. I was only 5 weeks but we didn’t get to tell them in person last time, since we live in different states, so it was special for us to be able to see their faces. My mom & sister cried. For my mom’s side we have a tradition of making big announcements right before the pray at Christmas breakfast. So when they asked for announcements I said MH has one and then he said “we having another one” lol. For my dad’s side and my husband’s family while we were opening gifts we said for everyone to check their phone and there was a picture that said the more the merrier baby #2 is due aug 2020. I made it really quickly on my phone.
As far as going public/ social media official it wont be to after my 30th birthday in February. Im selfish and dont want to share the attention with a baby. Last time i made a cute video of the journey of our relationship that ended in “then comes baby” with the month & year. I’m thinking of doing something similar this time but with my son. Because after him I didn’t want anymore kids. So it’d kinda be like a triumph story. Like we went through sooooooooo much. And we’re doing it all again. Lol.
I took a test a few days early because I was impatient and though I had wanted to do something cute I just ran out of the bathroom and yelled it We told my mom and sister at Christmas by having my son wear a tshirt that on the front said I have a secret and on the back says I'm a Big Brother and then told my immediate family at their Christmas by getting a sign with everyone's birthday and adding a charm that said BabyW August 2020. We told my in-laws on video call where they opened an ornament that had 8 snowmen and I said they can write the names of their grand kids on there only to be told it should have been 9 as my BIL and SIL are also pregnant and due 1.5 weeks before us. Then we are announcing to social media on valentines day with the due date and ultrasound in a heart shape box of candy hearts and a letter board that says "Roses are Red Violets are Blue We are due with number 2"
Announced on social media last night with this picture and the caption, "We are excited to announce that baby girl will be arriving in August 2020. Ziggy is looking forward to becoming a big brother!" Overjoyed by all the love and well wishes we received 🥰❤

@tyrion_@lachnessmomster@blackgirlmagic@riatortillaxo Aww thank you!!! There were quite of few outtakes with him playing with the tutu and chewing on the shoes! Holding a treat by my phone usually does the trick.

I know I'll be posting a video Saturday morning on social media, but it shows a lot about the places we go and the area I live in so I don't want to post it here. I am sending this to be printed at my grandmother's local Walgreens on Friday (along with some other pictures of the kiddo) and I think it's pretty cute so I thought I'd share that here!
I am way late to the party on this one but here’s my story on how I announced my pregnancy to my mom, dad and youngest sister.
I found out I was pregnant Dec.18. My parents were having MH and I over Dec.23 for a small Christmas get together. My older siblings live in the city and each decided to stay home this Christmas. Anywho, I was trying to decide how to tell my parents! So I came up with the idea of crafting some ornaments. So about an hour before MH and I were about to leave I got to work on these gems 😂 *see spoiler*. After doing dinner and gift exchanges MH pipes up and says “Hey, don’t you have something else to give out?” (I was nervous lol) I made my parents close their eyes and set the ornaments in front of each of them .. when they opened their eyes my mom was all “Awee that’s so cute!” Squints her eyes and says “does that say Nanny?! Are you pregnant?!” And by the time I looked over at my dad he was as red as a tomato and crying like a baby!!! It was such an awesome feeling! I’ve never seen my dad emotional!! My 17 yr old sister is extremely excited. My older sister too! I have yet to tell the oldest, my brother and his family. Which will likely happen this Saturday 😰.
My birthday was yesterday and we made an impromptu announcement with the cake my SIL brought for my party: "We'll be adding more than just another birthday candle this year 🤰💚👶"
Anyone else waiting to announce publicly (social media) until after the anatomy scan? We’ve told close family and local friends, but that’s it so far. I’m 16 weeks along.
We had planned on waiting till the AS to make a FB post but the people who knew that I told in person was telling everyone so I decided to just go ahead and make the big social media announcement! We found out gender a little early at a private clinic.
