Bachelor Nation Crew... would it be fun to create a thread next week to chat about the show? Especially now that we are close to the end? I don't know if off-topic threads like that are cool with the group, so totally understand if no one is interested.
@roo_baby sometimes I ice roll my face when I have a headache
@gomillis I read a little mantra in Birth without Fear and it was something like "this isn't the way I planned for it to happen, but it's still my baby's birthday and I'm going to celebrate that". I love that framing.
Upcoming appointments: Midwife check-in March 11th.
How are you feeling? Chubby with lower back pain.
Raves/Rants: Rave - Only four more days, and I can finally kiss this first trimester goodbye! These beginning months are my least favorite in my pregnancies, just because it takes forever to feel like I'm making any progress. I'll take feeling like a waddling whale any day, because it means it's almost over.
Rant - Would be great to sit and drink a hot cup of coffee without kids climbing all over me or getting up 15 times to do something for someone, change diapers, mess around with animals, etc. Also, despite the neuter, our boy cat is still marking. I'm reaching the end of my patience with this random stray that wandered into our lives. If we had actively sought him out at a shelter, it would be one thing, but the last thing on earth that we needed was another animal, and now he's just driving me insane.

GTKY: Have you read, watched or listened to anything particularly good recently? Last night, I just finished "The Wife Between Us" by: Greer Hendricks. I'm also in the middle of Ali Wong's "Dear Girls" and slowly working my way through "The Fourth Trimester" by Kimberly Ann Johnson. For podcasts, I mostly bounce back and forth between My Favorite Murder, Weird Darkness, and Where My Moms At? I love anything creepy, strange, or scary, and Weird Darkness is a mixture of all of that. My son even loves listening to the "scary stories" with me, as he calls them. I have to monitor what topics are being covered, though. If it's a ghost/ufo story, urban legend, bizarre history, or something along those lines, I don't care if he listens to that. (I grew up watching Sightings and The X-Files with my mom after all.) But if they're covering murders or something gruesome (yesterday's was discussing the Zodiac killer), I quickly turn those off. I'm obviously not trying to traumatize my son. On Netflix, I'm working my way through the most recent season of Good Girls. SO good.
@babytimeagain I was at the mall a few days ago browsing baby stuff and saw that Old Navy had some cute items and they are pretty cheap. Kohls is usually good for baby clothes too and I used to always shop their for friends' kids (they always have coupons!). For classic pieces, Gap had really nice stuff and the material is higher quality, but not cheap. The Children's Place also had some cute stuff, but more loud pieces for boys if I recall. You can always check Macy's as they have a pretty large baby dept. Oh, and Carter's (which part of their line is sold at Kohls), but they have freestanding stores. Can you tell I've begun baby shopping already?! And definitely do not feel bad or obligated to give away any of YD stuff. I'm not expecting any hand me downs from anyone and wouldn't give anything away unless I was 1000% done.. and even then only certain pieces.
ETA... I didn't realize there was another page! @lachnessmomster I love Ali Wong... I didn't realize she has a book. How is it? Also, interested in the Fourth Trimester - how are you liking it?

@babytimeagain Yes! It is so hard to find just normal cute boy clothes! My son is 2.5 and I still have trouble finding nice outfits. I get a lot from target because they have a wide variety and I like to mix and match and layer his outfits. Plus target has the Cat and Jack brand which includes sensory friendly clothes and reinforced knees
@babytimeagain you are not a monster for not wanting to give away your daughters clothes. I kept all my daughters clothes up until she turned three. If I'm being honest I only have an attachment to the clothes the first year of her life and some clothes after that. Now that I know that we are having a boy, four years later, I'm going to get rid of all her clothes except for the first year clothes. I plan to keep my boy's clothes, for another three to four years, until we know the sex of our third child. It's mainly because of space that I'm getting rid of clothes that I'm not attached to or will be used anytime soon.
Team Finding Out/Pink/Blue/Green: team Green. I have one of each so I'd like to be surprised with the tiebreaker
Baby is the size of a(n): peach!
Upcoming appointments: regular checkup on Feb 25.
How are you feeling? Pretty good actually! After what felt like a 2.5 mo mo hangover I finally feel more alive
Raves/Rants: I've discovered these Haagan Dazs ice cream bars that are salted caramel and chocolate. I'm obsessed.
Questions: none this week
GTKY: Have you read, watched or listened to anything particularly good recently? I'm a big reader, I read about a book a week. What I've recently enjoyed is : The World that We Knew by Alice Hoffman, Dear Edward by Ann Napolitano and The Heart's Invisible Furies by John Boyne.
@ziggymama06 Loving Ali Wong's book! She is hilarious, and I love her raw honesty about pregnancy and motherhood. She reveals that she also had c-sections after originally wanting a hippie, orgasmic, spiritual, med-free water birth. Lol! I can TOTALLY relate to that one.
"The Fourth Trimester" I'm finding so informative in regards to how one should take care of her body before and after birth. Learning lots of exercises and how to treat prolapse. This is the book that explained to me what a prolapse even was and helped me identify a lot of the symptoms I was having and their causes. There's also a section that discusses protocol in other cultures after a woman gives birth and how the mother is mothered so she can focus her energy solely on healing and caring for her newborn. I was surprised to learn that in India and Japan, the mother and her new baby will stay in her childhood home with HER mother for the first six weeks after giving birth so she's not tempted to housekeep or even take care of her husband. Meanwhile in the states it's all, how fast can you get your pre-baby body back and pretend like this whole thing never happened? Lol. It's very intriguing.
@lachnessmomster How interesting! The US has a lot of things backwards. I'm going to look for both of these books! My commute is roughly an hour each way and I like renting audiobooks from the library... I wonder if they carry either of these lol. Side note: I'm going to one of Ali Wong's shows in April - I already bought a leopard dress to sport with my bump and glasses

@blackgirlmagic thank you for the solidarity. I didn’t realize how attached I was until I thought about giving them away! I wasn’t sentimental until having my daughter.
@babytimeagain I was never sentimental either except for my daughters items. I am quick to through something away. I'm pretty sure my husband would be a hoarder if it was not for me and having him actually think about things and if he truly needs to keep it. But for me it only seems to be related to her infant items.

Update after my appointment today! Everything is looking great but I will still require monthly blood tests and if for some reason I will have to have another blood transfusion the blood will just require extra testing. Also we addressed my concerns for a big baby since my first was 8lbs and caused a lot of damage on the way out. I will for sure be induced at 39 weeks maybe 38 depending on how we measure. I myself was 10lbs and 4 weeks early so we aren't taking chances
@riatortillaxo I’m a little late to the party but yes, I am still nursing my 11 month old day and night. I’d say 3 times during the day, before bed and once at night? I’m not doing anything in particular nutrition wise, especially when I was super sick for about a month, but now that I’m feeling better I’m trying to get more fruits and veggies, and water into my diet. I also take a prenatal vitamin which helps cover any deficits!
@lachnessmomster I’ve been wanting to get my hands on The Fourth Trimester! There are cards you can get too which are for postpartum with healthy recipes, exercises, affirmations, etc I believe. I have prolapse issues as well so this sounds like a good book for me. My doula doesn’t have it in her lending library so I’ll have to splurge and buy it (our library has 1 copy and there are 65 people on the waitlist! Ha!)
Ok, guys, forgive me but I’m too tired and lazy to copy the formatting above. Hopefully this is ok for this week: -13 week’s 2 days, due Aug 26 -no clue how big baby is -not finding out the sex -I’m feeling decent, still quite fatigued but nausea only bothers me 2/3 days per week instead of every single day like in earlier weeks -next appointment on March 3 -Rave: I am so excited because I got a call yesterday that I got in with our (sole) midwife group at my hospital! Woo hoo! You have to call the second you find out you’re pregnant to even get on the waitlist. There are only 6 midwives for our whole section of the province. My doula raves about all of the midwives and lives going to births where the midwives are present. I delivered my first with a family dr, my second with an OB, and now I get to use the midwives for my third. Can’t wait for my first appointment! -I’ve been watching a lot of true crime on Netflix, glad I’m not alone. I liked The Pharmacist, I Am A Killer, and now I’m watching The Innocent Man based on a non fiction book by John Grisham
