I feel like everyone buys you blankets! We got soooo many with DS, that may be because we were team green and so didn’t get clothes.
DS loves his Tula blanket, but I’ve washed it so many times it has several snags and rips. It’s bamboo though, so I am comfortable leaving it in his crib. He has some muslin Aden and Anais swaddle blankets we still use for daycare.
We didn’t buy a single blanket and I’m pretty sure we were gifted almost two dozen. Some you like, some you don’t. Some were personalized so they couldn’t be rehomed. We kept the best of them and sent the rest on somewhere.
We liked the thing muslin blankets for our May baby and have a heavier fleece one we used in her car seat come winter. She naturally attached to a crocheted one a relative gave her. Honestly, don’t worry too much about this category. They can barely used blankets til 1 anyway

I still haven't used half of the blankets we were given for DS1.
Instead of blankets, these things are what we've found useful: Muslin swaddles 3x the burp cloths we thought we needed Sleep sacks/suits Flannel receiving "blankets" mostly for use as oversized burp cloths
In the "useful" blanket category: DS's lovey is a small crochet "blanket" square that his grandma made. We have 3. One for daycare, one for use, one for backup/wash I made DS a quilt. We mostly used it in his first year as a pad under his kick piano or other toys. In his second year, it has been a play fort and living room picnic blanket. At 28 months, he has used it a few times to pretend being asleep... But has never used it as a "blanket" I made him a 1st bday quilt. It's primary purpose is either for playing "the floor is lava" or to hang over the edge of his play yard so that he can read books without the dog staring at him through the panels. Uses as a real blanket? Mom couch naps.
I’m working right now on knitting this baby a blanket. Hoping it will be used for milestone pics and eventually as an actual blanket when old enough. I’ll agree the large Muslins are great for swaddling and also take as many of the swaddles from the hospital. They are the best big burp cloths. I still have like 4 or 5 from DS.
I looovveeed the Aden anais swaddle blankets we were gifted for DD. I’ve added a few more to this babies small registry. We never got any use out of the FOUR lovely quilts she was gifted.
Also tried loads of loveys and she fixated on one that was gifted to us from milkbarn. The most expensive one of course! I think we’ve bought 5 as she keeps losing them and we like having a spare ha
Make sure, if you haven’t already, that you get the bamboo a+a blankets. I’ve found them to be night and day softer than their others. It’s frustrating because it narrows the prints, they have more non bamboo options. But they are so soft it’s worth it!!
