Timing date to transition to Private Group

So by narrow margin, the majority voted for a Private Group on this Bump platform as the next step to take. We can all decide if/when we eventually move to FB while we are over there.

In the meantime, there was a lot of discussion on moving date to the PG being extended to give a few weeks for people who want to participate more to start, and be a little further along. Since we don't have the option of picking multiple dates, please choose the date which is the EARLIEST you would feel comfortable moving over (ie... if you don't care when, then choose Feb 15).

@sunshinesea22 I wish it told me who has voted so we could tag those that were active in the prior discussion. I think all I can do is bump it. And maybe post a reminder in the randoms thread (although, i feel like most of those people have probably voted)

Interestingly, this BMB group in general seems smaller than my former one. Anyone else feel the same way? I know we were like close to 60-70 girls in my Aug2016 group that made it to FB.

@mamaqdubu Yeah I think the people who actually participate have probably already voted, I was trying to bump it but also add some useful information...we’re up to 36 votes.
I’m guessing this is a smaller group because I don’t think I recognize 49 weekly posters. 35ish seems more accurate, but then again I’m not going through and counting how many names I recognize

My November 2016 BMB definitely had much more members. I think when the migration to a PG happened there were about 100 in the PG (obviously much more on the public BMB), then some of them eventually moved to FB. Personally I like having a smaller group, it is much more manageable to interact.

I also feel like most of the people who had the biggest problem with a PG on TB were the names I didn't really recognize and who just blew off the suggestions of veterans to avoid app/use browser, and to vet people and share info before going to Facebook anyway. So maybe they're not voting because they don't intend to follow anyway.

FWIW my July 16 group was maybe 50 ish when it went to private, but maybe only 20 when we transitioned to Facebook. There was some implosion, and some nastiness there. I'm no longer involved in the group, so I don't know if it shrank further after that, though I keep in touch with just a couple. My Sept 18 group was maybe 35 when transition to PG happen, and almost 25 when we moved to Pro Boards, but due to people fading out and not touching base, it's down to maybe 16 now.

35 isn't a bad number.

I've been involved in both this and the June group-due to my EDD being in June, but there is so little participating there, almost no daily threads get started... and a private group there would probably only have 15 now, lol.

D13 went from a large number of us who went from the PG to Facebook and then a group of us that left so now the ones I really stay in touch with is down to like 15. Granted it has been like 7 years for us to get that small but still.

Wow I'm surprised with everyone's small groups! My D15 group started pretty big on TB - when we moved to FB about a month after babies were born, we were still a group over 100. Now, 4 years later, we are at about 80 people and going strong! Even though I love my big D15 group - I do agree that it's definitely easier to get to know people quicker when the group is smaller.

Also, May and June are historically lower birth date months. Imagine that-less babies being conceived in busy end of summer, start of fall, school getting going season!!

How do we go about setting up this PG and starting the process of moving over?

@sunshinesea22 You used to be able to create a private group with a simple click of an "add group" button, but it looks like now someone will have to email TBG with a request to add a group, and they will by default be that group manager. I would propose we nominate one of our regulars who just about everyone recognizes and is reasonably comfortable with, and perhaps someone who has experience with moderating a PG in the past. This person would still be held accountable for participating in any vetting activity we decide on (they're not immune just by being the group manager). We'll also want to nominate group moderators (maybe 3-4 total), but we can do that once over there we get the group up and running.

@shamrocandroll That's so weird that you can't just create one anymore. And yes, I do think the PITA is a huge factor lately. My browser on my phone is now running STUPID slow, but only for The Bump website. Spending a couple minutes catching up today on a computer. Ew.

I know enough that I could mod, buuuut my active participation is highly dependent on my work load during the week, and I tend to mostly ghost on weekends... actually as a result of some drama in my first BMB that happened on Father's Day weekend and had me glued to my phone until MH called me out on it and I've tried to minimize my phone usage during family time ever since. So I could take first steps to make a PG but I would 100% need help with moderation from other regs.

@pourmeanothermocktail Such an interesting graphic!! I noticed that July 4th and December 24/25 are birth deserts compared to the times around them. Fun facts from my sister the L&D nurse: I was just asking her if there were a lot of dads who were upset to be missing the Super Bowl last weekend because their partners were in labor. She said that the hospital is always deserted on days like SB and fun holidays, because people want to be with family and friends on those days. So people who might normally show up for something minor in the hopes of being induced, just don't do so on those days. I thought that was interesting. Also LOL to all those Christmas/New Years celebrations making for a very populated September!

It's a terrible experience, lol. But apparently holiday parties cause a lot of babies, even if the parents aren't super excited about the timing.

They definitely don't, and scheduled inductions (non-emergency) definitely don't get scheduled usually about 2-3 days before or on the major holiday itself either.

@sunshinesea22 I will accept the nomination, but with a contingency. If I end up being the one to create the group I will create it for March 1-15 (depending on when we get details set). I would like to hash out some of the details here prior. Mainly what is our plan for vetting and maybe getting nominations for the additional moderators, the decision for them can be made in the PG though.

ETA: I want to clarify, the actual vetting would happen on the PG, I just would like to hash out what the plan/requirements will be here.

@m6agua As the group manager, you make the group,so I think the rest of us will fully support the hashing our of details. As a FRM and new bumpie, IDK what sort of things need to be arranged, so any and all guidance on how to go forward with setting up the PG is greatly appreciated!

Also, if you could let us know what it entails to be a moderator, maybe we can start putting together a group of willing moderators? I would volunteer but I don’t yet know what it involves, so I want to know what I’m signing up for before I commit.

Also, do we need moderators to be elected by other members or at least confirmed if it’s a self volunteer basis?
Sorry for all the questions but I am an obligate rule-follower, so I like to know the lay of the land. My husband calls me “Rulebook (Maiden name)”

@m6agua @sunshinesea22 I'm in support of this plan, but I would advocate for you to start getting it set up sooner than later. Now that it requires you to email the admins, I'm not sure how quick the turnaround will be. You guys have seen firsthand how long it takes to get a thread stickied sometimes. We can wait to start filling it, but I think getting it set up ahead of time would be good.

Here's how I would propose we start:

I think moderators should be nominated by other members. The nominees could then either accept or decline the nomination, and then we should have a poll to vote for an additional 3 moderators. We don't have a huge group, so I think 4 mods should be plenty. However, I'd tend to lean toward doing that in the PG so it doesn't get too messy.

For admission into the group, I would suggest we have a thread in the public BMB saying to comment on the thread if you want in the group. The first few adds would be up to @m6agua to recognize/approve the most regular participants. There would be a thread opened in the PG about admitting new members who commented on that thread. Once we get more than just a few people in the group, then those people are responsible for identifying whether or not someone is a regular participant (aka they recognize their username) and then "lovetit" their username in that thread to show they recognize that person. The group agrees on a number of lovetits that admit a new member (ie: 3 out of 5 regulars recognize that person) and the required number of lovetits goes up as the number of members goes up.

Once we're at a relatively steady state in the PG, there would be a thread about vetting. This would involve a required selfie that shows your bump, your face, your username, and a randomly selected object, which would make photoshopping a fake photo as difficult as possible. You have a certain amount of time to submit your photo and failure to do so is grounds for being removed from the PG. The group manager and mods are also responsible for submitting their vetting photo.

Once everyone is vetted, we can start sharing more info about ourselves as we feel more comfortable, and go from there!
