  • I just have to say I saw a chiropractor this week and she has changed my life.  My pelvis was hurting soooooooo bad.  2 adjustments and it feels so much better.  Apparently the sides of your pelvlis aren't supposed to be rocked in two separate directions, rotated to the right with a practically immobile sacrum and ilium.  When all that is corrected the pain is gone.  So for anyone on the fence just do it!!!!
  • @ReneeJ2011 so glad you got relief!
  • Does a Chiropractor count towards your deductible? I’ve never been but always been curious. We’ll all meet our out of pocket this year 🙄 so if it does this might be the year to try!

  • @alli392 Mine does but I'm sure it depends on your plan.
  • @alli392 mine does and I get 30 visits per year but it all depends on your insurance plan.
  • Still waiting for the energy to kick in. Meanwhile my belly button is almost already popped out at twenty weeks. This pregnancy is so much different than the last.
  • (Long) rant but also an ask for advice/your own experiences:

I've suffered from anxiety for years and was on a long-term medication before pregnancy. I went off of it as soon as I found out I was pregnant and plan to continue to be fully off of it. However, my symptoms have definitely returned. The way that they've most manifesting is insomnia. I really haven't slept more than a couple of hours a night for the past week. I'm exhausted, barely functioning and the lack of sleep has triggered migraines. I've tried all of the "safe" over-the-counter stuff (unisom, tylenol PM, etc.) and they haven't worked. I asked my ob for her thoughts on prescription sleep aids, taken on a rare as-needed basis. She essentially responded with "there's no record of safety for any of them, take benadryl", which I found very unhelpful. There's different (albeit, yes, limited) evidence out there for different drugs and I would have appreciated a more thorough response to my concern. Some have shown very little evidence of adverse effects to the baby, others have shows small risks but only in the first trimester. Of course none have had fully randomized controlled trials. I understand that the safety record is limited, but I also think that not being a healthy mom is also not "safe for the baby". At this point, I'm constantly filled with worry -- worry that my poor physical health is affecting the baby and worry that anything I take to address this is also affecting the baby. There's just no way out.

I understand (and share) the desire to ensure that every pregnancy is as unaffected by unnecessary medicine as possible, but I also feel that we've gone overboard to the point of disregarding the health of the mother. It's incredibly frustrating. Have any of you had experience taking prescription medication with limited safety records? What has been your experience with providers discussing your options with these? I just feel a flat out "no" is just so wrong for certain situations.

Thanks for any advice you can offer!!
  • @mariabele I don’t have experience with anxiety meds or sleep aids either in or outside of pregnancy. I have found, however, that talking to the right doctors is the most important thing. My autoimmune doctor manages my lupus prescriptions for me but my MFM does my pregnancy related ones. My MFM won’t touch my lupus ones and my immunologist won’t do any of the ones the MFM wants even if they’re to help combat symptoms. If you were on an anxiety med before and experiencing symptoms of anxiety, maybe your psychiatrist can have the best advice? They should know what’s pregnancy safe and you can always get the prescription, then run it by your OB once it has a name to be double sure. That way you don’t have to stress too much!l but can also get what you need.

I hope you get some sleep soon!!

@runwmusic ditto everything you just said. Belly button is out. Energy is low. Are second pregnancies usually this much harder? Or is it just the toddler running around?

  • @mariabele Check out the app "Mommy Meds." It's run by the research group infant risk. Worth the one time payment. It has the most up to date info on drug safety for pregnant and nursing people-organized by trimesters/length of time nursing.

I am team not-sleeping-isn't-safe-for-you-or-baby anyway, I think a sleep aid, or an anti-anxiety medication is worthwhile. Postpartum anxiety can flare, and getting it medically controlled pre-birth can be a huge safety help. Hugs, but check out app for best suggested medications. And do what you need to do to be healthy.

@runwmusic Short torso here, and belly button popped at 16 weeks with second baby, and at 10 weeks with number 3. I haven't been able to hide it since maybe 9 weeks, I'm huge.

  • I’ve been having some odd symptoms:

ive been struggling with food. Can’t keep down heavily processed foods and carbs are my enemy. Still puking every few says at 17 weeks. I actually lost 12 pounds between my 12 week and 16 week appt. Not a huge deal cuz my BMI was like a 30 before pregnancy but something I need to keep an eye on.

My big weird new symptom is embarrassing. I keep getting these awful cramps and muscle spasms around my anus 😅
I’ve also been having weird pelvic pain. Mostly when I’m in bed or getting up. So that might be related. I read about pelvic girdle pain and some other stuff that might be what I’m experiencing. But omg it’s awful. I don’t know if it’s also like a little bit of Braxton hicks. Sometimes I feel it in my uterus too. It’s been three days no. The first day I was getting muscle spasms like. I swear every ten minutes. Super painful. Hurt to sit on my tail bone. It’s gotten better. Yesterday I had a bowl movement while these spasms were happening. Thank god my husband wasn’t home cuz I was cursing up a storm. Now it just feels kind of crampy. But I’m just at a total loss.
I haven’t had any bleeding or awful cramping in my uterus or anything that has me concerned about baby.
  • @pourmeanothermocktail I just hope it goes back in after delivery 😂 i cannot get over how much sooner everything is happening this time around. It's insane.

Mine went back both times so far! Third pregnancy was even quicker than second. Friendly warning-early popped belly button can be a sign of DR afterwards. Which is usually easy enough to correct with posture and exercises, but the right ones only. Not much you can do now, but be prepared to look for it at 6 weeks postpartum!

@emodelski That does sound pretty weird. Continued nausea isn't all that unheard of, but the weird cramping and spasming I haven't really heard of. I'd bring that up with my provider, over the phone if you don't have an appointment soon. Low calcium and low magnesium can affect muscle cramping, so taking supplements for those may help. Just something to think about.

Insomnia is nightly for me. I sleep MAYBE 5 hours on a good night. I got up to pee at 2 am. laid back down and felt a nice strong movement. It has been mainly subtle until a few days ago(Thurs night) that he or she wants me to know they are there lol. It isnt consistent but I definitely have a tough cookie on my hands.
  • @pourmeanothermocktail I had 4 finger Dr last time. I feel like that comes with the short torso also. My pt left the practice so I'll need a new one. Sucks.

@lizanet girl same. I feel like I slept 2 hours. Really hope my mind calms down after the anatomy scan today.
  • So much sympathy for you short torso moms, even though it's not my struggle. <3 I've got a ridiculously long torso and shortie legs. Imagine that my feet spin super fast like a cartoon character's whenever I'm trying to keep up with someone else my height. ;)  I never had to experience DS1 crammed into my ribcage, but the flipside of that is that he had plenty of room to wind up his nearly full-term kicks (oof) near the end.

I've reached my intense texture aversion stage of pregnancy. At some point in whatever I'm eating, my body might decide it can't handle the texture anymore and trigger my gag reflex. If I look down to read something while I eat it's more likely to happen, so I'm convinced it's mechanical. Same thing happened with DS1. Since I have to measure what I eat and balance meals rather specifically, this is inconvenient AF beyond the obvious gag/puke issues. I'm also best friends with my (low grade) heating pack because all this walking + spready hips = soreness.  I don't remember feeling this discombobulated until end of 2nd tri/early 3rd last time, but I guess the fun starts earlier for baby 2.

Is anyone else on baby aspirin? Just curious. My OB said it used to be just for AMA with a pre-eclampsia risk, but that recent studies have shown it could be beneficial for anyone with an underlying risk factor (for me that's GD, and AMA, and being a plus size human).
    Pregnancy Ticker
  • @kyrwyn I'm on LD ASA since 11wks. I had pre-eclampsia last time so I'm on it to hopefully prevent that from happening this time.  Where I practice we put all diabetics, people with pre existing hypertension and history of pre-eclampsia.
  • @mariabele from my experience-  I tried VERY hard to go over sertaline before getting pregnant but for me, just like you, my anxiety manifests itself in insomnia and as I got closer to slooowwwllyy weaning off it my night time anxiety went through the roof. Every doctor I have spoken to here (England-on our national health service) has been more than okay with me on it and they’re usually more drug adverse than the US. I see a speciality mental heath midwife and she said she has seen hundreds of women on it and their babies have been fine. Your mental health is important! I would seek a different opinion- maybe a mental health specialist?

I feel frustrated for you! I agree there has to be a solution.

  • @kyrwyn I’m on the baby aspirin! Have been since week 14ish? My MFM at the time made a comment about how everyone who is pregnant should be on it. I was on t at 24 weeks last time (when I switched to MFM)

  • @kyrwyn I’m on baby aspirin! I was on it leading up to my FET and my RE took me off after my positive beta. But then my OB put me back on it about 2 weeks ago. She said research has shown it can help reduce preclampsia risk.

  • Thanks @hayhay2501 and @pourmeanothermocktail! I did download the Mommy Meds app. It has a ton more information than I see elsewhere. Even my Ovia app just gives the FDA pregnancy categories, but those aren't helpful without an explanation of the evidence. Mommy Meds actually gives a summary of the evidence rather than the letter categories. Thank you for the recommendation!
  • I made it through the night without having to get up to pee for the first time in months :) yay! Weirdly have been more comfortable sleeping on my back while I was almost a total side sleeper previously. Probably because I'm not supposed to now.
  • @SpartanCat I made it until 5 am without having to pee last night and it was amazing!
  • @SpartanCat and @chaos-and-coffee omg I’m so jealous of you two!! I’ve woken up at least twice a night the whole time argh.

I’ve started having the most vivid dreams. I dreamt last night that DH left me the day before my 20 week scan for his college girlfriend. And he told me he didn’t see the point in attending the scan with me. My in-laws were so horrified in him they drove from where they live to go to the scan with me. I texted this to my mother in law this morning and she found it hilarious and told me to lay off cheese before bedtime lol
    BabyFruit Ticker
  • @runwmusic I hope the scan puts your mind at ease and you can get more sleep. It is not fun

  • @hayhay2501 I have had dreams like that too this pregnancy and I wake up sooo mad at DH. But he said he had one the other night and woke up mad at me until he realized it was all a dream.  Lol
  • @cookiemonstermomma11
I'm with you on the round ligament pain being on one side! It seems to be mostly on the left side for me.
  • Starting to feel kicks from the outside! (19+3, 3rd pregnancy).  Also, starting to feel more pressure on my cervix and hoping the baby moves up and out of my pelvis soon!  Other than that, feeling good. Having two toddlers has been a good distraction and I honestly forget I'm pregnant sometimes haha.

  • Waiting for this energy boost that's supposed to come in T2. Starting to feel big as well. I disclosed to my work this week, it is impossible to hide and I'm seriously shocked they hadn't already guessed. They were totally surprised!!
  • Soooo...I had influenza B a few weeks ago. I now have influenza A. This one has retriggered a ton of nausea (which had never really gone away but it’s back full force). Seriously struggling to eat/stay hydrated which is so important with the flu. All around miserable and just so dang tired of this stupid weakened immunity cycle I can’t seem to get out of. I think the nausea is from the drainage. I can power through with Tylenol and hot showers as best I can, but this nausea is really throwing me. Still on anti nausea meds. Any ideas?

  • @alli392 Oh ick, I'm so sorry. I would guess some of your nausea is probably from dehydration. Ice cubes in my water super helps me, so that I can get more water in to feel better. ditto Popsicles. Controlling nausea-sea bands, peppermint oil in a diffuser necklace, and medication (but I know you said you're already taking some). I hope you can get a handle on this and recover quickly.

  • @alli392 oh no. I'm sorry that's just awful. I'm still having a hard time finding things I enjoy eating this pregnancy. Juice has been something easy for me to get down. Have you tried juice? I'm obsessed with this mango tangerine right now. Propel is just too sweet for me but nuun tablets are pretty bland if you're looking for something with electrolytes.
  • I feel like this baby is getting so heavy even though I know she's under a pound. Muat be a difference in positioning between her and ds. It's so strange.
  • DH took DS to swim class this morning. I listed some cloth diapers that I don't like on Facebook market place and now I'm just enjoying baby Sloane moving around. I could actually see my stomach move because of him this morning!! So cool. I couldn't see that with Ds until like 28 weeks!

And I'm off tomorrow so Ds and I are going to the train museum.

My left eyelid is twitching fairly regularly.  I've been making sure to eat foods high in potassium, so I don't think it's that.  Dr. Google says it's common during PG.  Stress and hormone induced dryness seem to be the main culprits.  Anyone else experience this and have a non-potassium solution?  It's driving me nuts!

I get $1 decent size bottles of saline only lubrication drops at Walmart/Target/Walgreens/etc for dry eyes. Totally worth picking one up and trying out a few times per day, or whenever twitching. They're a nice 0.5 oz size, when I was having a huge dry eye issue from surgery, I was using them every hour and they lasted a month.

Also foods rich in omega acids and/or anything oily and drinking tons of water, especially with a reasonable amount of salt helps you to hold onto the water, will help your overall systemic dryness. Good luck!
