Our kids names are Arabic and we struggle with boy names. We love our son’s name but it was the only one of thousands we loved. There are a million beautiful girls names that are Arabic.
I feel like the problem with having a kid at 36 is that all the good names are taken. Seriously, every name I love has been taken by close friends and family. I love the name Jack but my husband is the godfather to a Jack. I also love the name Leo but our friends just named their son Leo. Ditto lily, Charlotte and Rose. I always loved the name Cruz but my son has a best friend named Cruz (has been a best buddy since he was 18 months) so that would just be weird. I guess we could still name our baby one of these names but I feel like it would just be strange.
I love thinking about names but when it’s time to actually settle on something, my husband and I struggle to commit to one. With our last son, we couldn’t decide until he was 2 days old. That drove my family crazy but boy names are so hard! This time around I have lists but we won’t seriously talk about them until we know the sex.
My kids names start with L, G and L. I’m weird and part of me wants to continue the pattern with another G or a J (my daughter’s G name makes the J sound) so they flow nicely. Not sure about that though..
boy names: James, Cole, Graham, Bennett, Dominic, Gabriel (Gabe) girl names: Natalie, Brooke, Ruby, Rory, Kate, Alexandra (Allie), Juliet
@mischief-managed I agree with it being hard when someone else in your life has that name. Our top boy name is currently Henry. One of DH’s family members had a dog with that name who passed away last year. We also like Benjamin. I have an aunt who has a nephew on her side with that name. Not a blood relative to me, but still enough to make me think about it. I say if you really, really love the name, don’t just automatically throw it away.
Fun fact, my mom and her sister have sons with the same name. They both married a Bill/Billy and named their sons after them. My brother is a good 10 years older than our cousin, but my mom was a little irked when her sister did that. Thankfully, they’re not close at all, both geographically and relationship-wise.
@mischief-managed I can totally see that a d I had names I loved used my friends or aquaintances when I was pregnant or pregnant with the opposite sex that I had to take off our list. I like the name Oliver but my neighbor just had a boy last year with that name and this one and him will hopefully be buddies since they are only going to be 2 years apart and 2 doors down from each other so I had to nix it
Btw your username is awesome! My oldest just got hard into Harry over the summer and its been amazing sharing the journey again through his eyes.
@Fullhandsfullheart I can totally see at this point wanting to keep up a pattern but I think yours is subtle enough too that if you didn't people probably wouldn't notice if you didn't. My older daughter is named Juliet so I think it's the most beautiful name ever so good taste! Your other choices are great too. Cole and Graham are on my list currently.
DS name was family name that is very unique and different, Catholic. Three months into dating he mentioned. It was on our list but his brother used it as a middle name for his son (and took my husbands middle name as his sons first name. Both were grandfather names). We ended up going with. I'd never heard the name and I've now met 3 in our city ! Two were his age other 8 yrs older. And it's also been a few non main characters in a a couple tv shows recently.
Not sure this time. Unused girl name carries over but still considering others. I have a few boys list but not sure DH is a fan
Team green again like last time and we do not tell baby names. DH seems to like traditional and nothing to far out there.
Personally I want easy to spell name and no nickname. DS might get one from friends which is fine but we only call him full name.
There are several names on your list that were on my last boys list and this name list. Husband has okayed them sometimes and no other times do I'll just see as we go along (team green). One is pretty unique and I actually had an older college professor and guy I know with the name. I've never heard it elsewhere though
I also like some of your other names too (which DH has said no). I get few suggestions and lots of no's
I love names, I look at them even when Im not pregnant in truth. I could name an army of babies. My husband is the worst though. He hates 99% of names and has no suggestions of his own just vetoes on all my favorite picks. We have no boy names we can agree on and of course today I find out its a boy. I was telling him last night he better pray there was no Y chromosome because we will never find a boys name and here we are now.
I love Brooks, Jasper, Hudson, Troy, Cole, Asher, Everett, Cody, Westley etc He hates them all.
@busymom247 Clearly it means we both have amazing taste . I'm trying to get my DH on board with at least a few of these so we have some options to play with. Wish me luck
Our current running list. We leaning heavily towards Mason Carter but aren’t sure how that sounds since our last name also starts with an M. other options are Westley, Wyatt, Waylon, Emerson, Everett, Graham
After we named our second daughter, we learned that both of our girls peaked in popularity in 1901 so if it’s a girl we’re keeping with that! A girl would be Millie and I really want the middle name to be Claire, which was my grandmother’s middle name but my sister pointed out it sounds like eclaire when you say the name together.
Then for a boy we’ve had the name Roderick, after my dad, since our first pregnancy. We told my dad that was our choice boy name back then and I’m hesitant on if I love the name or not but feel like we can’t change it now. So we’ll see!
@NinnyJean what about Millie as a nickname? That could avoid the "eclair" scenario.
I'm having trouble thinking of many names that would work... OK, I stole these from here (https://appellationmountain.net/fetching-names-getting-to-millie/). There's more but some of them seemed like quite a stretch, or were really unusual names, or still had the "ee" sound at the end.
So, even though we have friends with a son named Leo, we are already pretty sure we are going with Leo. They live across the country and we honestly don’t see them that often. We found out today we are having a boy and, if his due date (or 3 days before) is when he’s born, his zodiac sign will be a Leo. If he’s born before the 23rd, we might go with something else.
@mischief-managed Leo is a great name! I really like it but its super popular here, I know 2 already, so I didnt want to use it especially since my other 3 have pretty rarer names it just seemed weird I thought to make this one so popular. Its a great name though. I have a Leo baby though and she is Leo through and through since she was born. My other two were born and settled but not her, she roared coming out and has never really stopped since. Im kinda glad for a Cancer this time lol Dont know if I could survive another Leo nor would anyone else in the house.
@nursejenn5 love the name Charlotte with Charlie as a nickname!
For some reason, if it's a boy I'm stuck on the name Sonny. It is a blend of our dad's names as well as ours. It just sounds nice with our last name. I also like the idea of having family names, but thinking I would have it as a middle name maybe?(William, Warren, Robert).
Girl, I have a LONNNG list - but really like Jade (however our niece is named Jane.. and my husband thinks it might be too close). Otherwise Lauren, Logan, Thea, Kendall. (Logan and Kendall potentially for a boy as well). Again, having a family name as a middle name. My husband is stuck on the name Cali for a girl and I'm not sure I'm 100% sold on it.. lol
@stlbuckeye132 at my work we have the “unicorn book” full of absurd names we’ve heard from patients. I will judge you if you name your child clamidia, kviiilyn(kaitlyn), abcde(ab-Sid-ee), oranjelo(twin lemejelo), and sooo many more.
@blaf322 so I have a cousin named jack, and my aunt and my mom actually were pregnant at the same time (and due within weeks of each other) and apparently my mom ‘stole’ her favorite name so she went with Jack...so I’m ready for the ‘you took my sons name’ drama!
We didn't discuss names at all until we found boy/girl last time around. I am kind of hoping it is a girl, because we had a tough time with a boy name for DS. I'm going to push for Ruby Claire for a girl since we both have a grandmother named Ruby who we loved, and DH's other grandmother was Claire. If not that, I have always liked Genevieve.
Boys...who knows. Our second place last time was Colton, but now that the bachelor was Colton last year, I kind of don't want that anymore. haha
@JessDG I love the name Colton, but DH has two friends with kids named Colton in the last 5 years.
I have a Logan, and one of his close friends named their son Logan a little over a year ago. DH and I were living together at that time, but not married yet. I guess they didn't care/the degree of separation was enough for them, but I couldn't name my child the same as one of his close friends.
So we found out we're having a girl, and H vetoed almost all my names I had so far. We both love Rose OR Rosalie (can't decide which one) but having a hard time finding a middle name we like with it. Also on the list is Annette (in honor of my grandma Antoinette), but I don't know if it sounds too old ladyish. I also find myself really liking Imogen so I guess I am really into old lady names lately?
@blaf322 we love the nickname Rosie, I think we'd call her that whether we went with Rose or Rosalie. Harper is pretty! I was trying to think of an A middle name and nothing is sounding good to me.
We came up with a few more boy names: Malcolm (call him Mac or Collum), Michael, Anthony, Zachary.
I like both Anthony and Zachary but have second thoughts about their nicknames. Our last name is Scandinavian so Tony seems kinda weird maybe? It’s so Italian sounding to me. I just watched the Irishman though so maybe Pacino vibes are messing with me. And Zack makes me think of Saved By The Bell.
But Malcolm is really growing on me. We’ve settled, I think, on a first name with at least two syllables (Charles is the only exception on our list). The middle name (Buck) is one syllable so I prefer the sound of that with the two syllable names. Probably. May change my mind in an hour. 😂
@zande2016 as far as A names go, there's Amelia, Abigail, Annabelle, Anne, Alice, Alexandria, Ava, Arielle, Alba, Adette, Ashlynn, Astrid, Adelaide, Amy, Alma, Allison....not sure if that's helpful or not, but maybe itll help jumpstart your mind haha.
@JessDG love that youre not going to do Colton because of the bachelor hahahahahaha
married to DH on March 15, 2018 TTC since May 2018 dx: PCOS, hypothroidism tx: timed intercourse with meds (dexa, clomid, letrozole, metformin, trigger shots)

@zande2016 don't feel the need to like any of these (or even comment on them) lol... but if you'd be cool with Rose as a middle name, what about Audrey Rose I super love that! Like, I might would use it if I was having a girl lol Maybe Rosalie Addison?
I feel like Rosalie is so feminine, it would be fun to use with something that's a family name or something that could be used for either sex.
@blaf322 I adore Audrey, but it's my sister's name, and I don't want to use it because of that. We are fairly close i guess, but we dont have hardly anything in common so for me it would be weird. I this it's a beautiful name.
@rachelredhead Malcolm is on my list too! @zande2016 I adore old lady names. I love the name Ida-Mae but my husband nixed it real fast. One of my daughter's middle names is Rosella (it's also my mom's middle name).
@blaf322 Audrey Rose is super pretty! Audrey actually is on our list so that is definitely a contender.
For a family middle name we thought about Ann since that’s my mom’s middle name and my grandma’s first name, but Rose Ann just makes me think of the actress Roseanne lol
