@noxacanthus that's great that they're letting you take full advantage of the 12 weeks! I finally got a meeting scheduled to talk to HR about my maternity leave...figured I should finally figure it all out haha But I'm still kind of freaking out bc I havent scheduled a meet and greet with our potential pediatrician...or signed up for a hospital tour or any classes 😖
@noxacanthus I took off some days prior to DS arriving and it was really great to have some time to relax and get my mind ready for baby. That was very nice of your boss!!

Super random, but my stomach is making incredibly loud noises right now. I share an office with my boss (aka the president of our company) and she keeps looking over at me and laughing. I can't even imagine how loud it must be for baby boy. I don't even know what's happening. I'm not hungry and I don't feel any digestive pain...
@lanie1000 is it like a grumbling noise when you breathe in??? Mine was making some obnoxious noise the other night when I'd take a breath and DH started laughing at me. I told him it was baby growling lol
@noxacanthus that’s great!! @malloryfrommn good luck! @Swiftlet that’s a lot at once. I’m glad your h is ok. Dont feel guilty talking to your boss about changing your schedule around.
Oh gosh...I don't know how my work team is going to survive without me for 3 months and they seem to be frantic about it too. We currently have a loaned employee from another company helping us out (apparently work 25+hours OT per week is reason to finally get us help! Lol) and I've been trying to show him how to do things for the projects he's working on for us. I always get so frustrated bc the task he's working on day 2 of now is something I could have done in half a day....but couldn't take on because of my own work load. I keep reminding myself that we all start somewhere and I've been doing this for 7 years now. I had to step in on another project he was helping with because the client was demanding it and we didnt have time for him to have a 4th go at getting my comments incorporated.
@craftywitch I hope so too! It's nice they trust me to help train him since I'm the low woman on the totem pole though! One of our other designers got loaned out to another department but he's wrapping up work with them soon so there should be a little breathing room until I leave. The engineers have been begging our higher ups to hire more people for our team but it's been falling on deaf ears. It's been kind of a mess around here juggling 3 pregnant women and workloads haha
Do you guys realize in two weeks we will be able to say we are having babies next month? Theoretically, it’s possible that some could have babies safely next month with no NICU time.
@DDRRT1982 I'm not sure that makes me feel better! Lol how did this happen so quickly?? I'm finally just sitting down this afternoon with HR to talk about maternity leave, and I still haven't registered for classes or called to meet a pediatrician. I'm feeling super behind!
@ibabyloveb87@mandk1233 I don't think I'll ever get tired of watching my belly move. I try to ignore it while at work, but when I get home I love pulling my shirt up and just watching the lump move and react to my touch.
So, I think I've just come to terms with the fact that I'm going to have a big baby. At my 28 week growth scan, this boy was in the 94th percentile. Now that I'm 32 weeks he's now up to the 96th percentile and is already almost 5 and a half pounds. I will be one of those people who is definitely having my baby next month. I'm just hoping they let me get to 39 weeks...
Ahhh I'm super relieved! I had my sit down with HR today and my understanding before was incomplete on maternity leave pay! I had heard only 60% of salary would be paid. I never heard the other half of it. I can use my PTO for the 1st 2 weeks then after that my company will pay 4hrs time/day and then short term disability will pay out the other 4 hours. I guess previously there was a 60/40 split between the provider and my company but they changed it to 50/50 and have a new provider. I was so heartbroken that I'd only be getting 60% of my pay being a new parent! Glad i got it sorted out!
@babyroma That is fantastic news! Unfortunately, I had the opposite news. My company abides by the law to hold my position for 12 weeks, but they don't offer paid maternity leave at all. All I will be able to get is the 6 weeks of 60% pay that I get from State Disability. Which means for the rest of the 12 weeks, I'll be taking home zero dollars. I'm super bummed because I know this will mean we'll have to get really scrappy with budgeting...but I'm not just not willing to go back any earlier. Sometimes, I really hate living in the States...
@lanie1000 I really feel for you mommas that don’t have the option of a longer leave with some pay! I can see why you aren’t willing to take any shorter amount of time! We Canadians are spoiled when it comes to maternity leave
I definitely sobbed at my desk this morning over maternity leave stuff...
I get 6 weeks paid, and have enough vacation time to do a full 3 months off. However we are a small office, of which I am now a co owner, so I was asked to consider taking 2 months. I was all fine with that, and shortened my leave to 2 months.
Today I learned that I will be expected to participate in a hiring initiative we just started during my maternity leave. So rather than totally unplugging for 2 months, I'll be involved in videoconferencing approximately twice per week as we interview for a critical role in our firm. I'll be checking scheduling and emails regularly so I know when I'm expected to conference in. I'll be chatting with my boss on all things related to the candidates, next steps, etc. I will NOT be unplugged at all.
Logically, I get it. This hire will potentially be a co owner with me for the next few decades, so my input is a big deal. But emotionally I'm disappointed at what my "maternity leave" is shaping up to be. I just know this is only the beginning of me trying to juggle a demanding career and a family.
My household is disgusting. DS had vomiting and diarrhea Thursday/Friday. Then DH came home last night with diarrhea and he is miserable. I am so scared I’m going to get this stomach bug too. Not only because stomach bugs are so much harder when pregnant, but it can send you into early labor.
ETA- not even an hour after posting this, I became sick too. 😭
My grandmother was put in hospice and my parents say I should stay away since it's at the hospital and shouldn't risk catching something going up there. Then I found out my uncle unexpectedly passed away last night. Having a rough go at it.
I finally got signed up for some baby classes (baby cpr and breastfeeding) but they're middle/end of January and I'm hoping I'm not cutting it close on those! I've still got to call tomorrow and register for a hospital tour and im debating if we should find the what to expect for labor classes at the hospital or find one online. I'm starting to get all kinds of panicky about these things! It's also on my to do list to preregister for the hospital. How soon have you ladies done that?

@daffodil_shoe Oh no! Hope it is at least a quick bug.
@daffodil_shoe silver lining is you don’t have to wait around anxiously wondering if/when you’ll get it? Hope it’s a quick recovery
@rebornlotus I am so sorry. If it’s important to you to see your grandmother I would go. Just Use a lot of hand sanitizer.
@daffodil_shoe ack, no!
@rebornlotus so sorry
@rebornlotus sorry for your loss. And I would go see your grandma and just use a mask and hand sanitizer to be safe.
Yall I’m so tired. I could go to bed now. It’s not even 8 pm.
