Re: Product Spotlight: Cribs & Sleeping Surfaces

  • For STMs:
Lifestyle(House, Apartment, Travel a lot)? a house.  we didn't travel much at all, and that was a whole other set of things.
What sleeping surface do you have? for the first 6 months she was in a pack in play, one of those ones which had the elevated top.  honestly she NOT ONCE went in the bottom part, and while i didn't mind the footprint of the whole thing it made no sense for storage.  we don't have it any more, so this time around i will probably go for a more bassinet-style one or at least one that has shelves or pouches below if such exists.  after 6 months she went in a crib

  • @sevenn check out the arms reach clear vue sleeper. Nice storage on the bottom. I just got one gently used for $75. https://www.armsreach.com/collections/co-sleeper-bassinets/products/clear-vue-co-sleeper

  • @sevenn I saw this one when I was looking at PNPs where the side zips open and it has storage shelves below.

  • @pirateduck Sorry that your trip to Target wasn't great. I would highly recommend making a day trip to a Buy Buy Baby to go and look at stuff. They generally have a lot more on display. You could make it like a day date or something with a friend or YH. Like @ruby696 said, you could go there to look at more products, but then register for them online at Target or Amazon. As for the PNP, I have a Graco one that was a little cheaper, maybe in the $100-$150 range and I love it. It is super easy to set up and break down, travels easy and is sturdy. DD just turned 3 and we still sometimes use it for her. This is the one I have, but I think it was a Babies R Us exclusive, so it isn't made anymore.

  • @m6agua they probably still make it, but in a different color, that seems to be the way it goes with some of this baby stuff, new color, new name, same product!
  • this is not an endorsement, but the snoo is down to about $800 from $1200.

  • Question for STMs+: Is there a difference between mattress pads and mattress protectors? I know I’ve read before that you should layer the mattress with sheets and pads/protectors for midnight messes, but I’m confused on if they are the same thing or not! Please advise and also instruct on what items one is supposed to layer!

@sunshinesea22 Mine were waterproof mattress pads, so I assume they're the same thing. Make sure you have 2-3 ready to go. Two for layering and an extra just in case.

  • I don't know how people do the layering. There is no way I could layer 2 sets of waterproof mattress pads and sheets. I have a hard time with some of the crib sheets now because they have shrunk so much. Luckily DD never really had blow outs so it was not a big deal to change everything the few times we needed to.

  • Re: layering... I loved QuickZip sheets for DS's crib!  I had a fitted waterproof mattress pad on the mattress, but then I put a QuickZip sheet on it, which has a base part and a top part, and basically if the sheet needs to be changed, you just unzip the top part and zip on a new one.  Underneath, I had flat waterproof pads that were sized only slightly smaller than the crib, so I'd just have to change the top part of the sheet and the flat pad.  They're a little pricey, but worth registering for!  And honestly not that bad when you consider they're taking the place of 3 fitted sheet sets.  And this way, no layering needed, and you don't have to pull the tight fitting mattress out to remove it!

  • I used a waterproof mattress cover, followed by a puppy pad and then a sheet. I also did the same thing towards the end of pregnancy, just in case.
