Maternity Clothes

I’m borrowing this from the April BMB because I go check this thread in there every week. Tell us about sales, places you have had success shopping, what your favorite items are, anything you are on the hunt for these days.

Re: Maternity Clothes

  • Currently I’m looking for a semi-formal dress to double in Christmas family pictures in three weeks and work for MH’s Christmas party a month after that. I’m shopping Pinkblush now but down for any suggestions. Old Navy and Gap and Motherhood trended to the more casual dresses from what I saw.

Have you tried A Pea In A Pod yet?
  • I'm looking for undergarments ;) ha! Maternity/nursing bra suggestions? Also, pregnancy support belts or something that doubles as csection support/recovery. I had bad diastasis after baby number 2. I'm dreading the back pain that I know is coming soon..
  • @lea-v3 I think I'm going to need more support this pregnancy as well because of the diastasis I had after DD.

I picked up some maternity jeans, leggings, and a top from Kohl's last weekend. I scored a 40% off your purchase mystery coupon and couldn't resist. My friend and I made a deal to share clothes. She was KU last, so I'll be picking up the box from her soon. I'll add anything I buy this time. I'm still in my pre-pregnancy bra but it is getting tighter each day.
  • I ordered underbelly leggings from Target and just got them in. I got my normal size and tried them on and they fit great in the legs, but the band was way too large. I don’t know if I should go down a size or just wait until I have a larger bump. Any thoughts from anyone who has used underbelly leggings before?

  • This is the maternity belt I had last time with SPD with #2...
    https://bellybandit.com/products/upsie-belly

It helped some but in order to feel like I could walk comfortably I had to have it uncomfortably tight. Ultimately I found this:
    https://youtu.be/5qqizG48Zp0
And a few other websites. That worked best for me from about 26 weeks on. It let my shoulders help carry some of the weight from my belly and let my hips be more stable. It was also more adjustable than the belt.
  • I highly recommend sleep nursing bras if you’re going to nurse for nighttime. I actually continued to wear them after my daughter weaned and I’ll probably wear them forever. You just pull the bra to the side, there are no clips. Motherhood maternity sells them.

I’m really pumped that I WFH this pregnancy. Plan on wearing leggings and tunics mostly.

  • @catem07 I WFH too and I live in leggings while pregnant. Last 2 times have been the summer, so I’ll need to invest in some bigger sweaters and cardigans this time around.
  • @catem07 I too still wear my sleep nursing bras from DD (3 years later). I call them boob hammocks.
  • @mdfarmchick, H&M has a nice maternity section. I got my baby shower dress there and of course it is very reasonably priced.
Motherhood maternity store has several brands including A pea in a pod (as @lea-v3) and if you go to the back of the store they have some good sales.

@catem07, underbelly leggings are the shizz. I have two that I continued to wear through my pregnancy, post-partum for like 2 years now..haha they are so worn that I need to buy new ones, now that I need them again... I also got them from target.

How often does Pink Blush do 50 percent off? I never ordered last time, but I need a fancy dress for a holiday party. I heard not to order unless there’s a sale.
  • Anyone else plus sized that can rec some maternity leggings that will STAY UP? I'm so tired of pulling at my clothes all day.

I will definitely check these out!! Thank you :)@mdfarmchick
  • @Austenista I’m what they call borderline plus side so I straddle the line of not being big enough for plus size, but still too much junk in the trunk for regular size. 🙄 I use a belly band over my maternity leggings until my stomach fills in enough to hold them up. Currently wearing the full belly panel target maternity jeggings with a belly band over. It works well.
  • I think several people have mentioned maternity pants/leggings/etc falling down or not fitting right. Right now they will fit a bit awkwardly and you will be pulling them up a lot throughout the day. As your belly gets larger things will fit much better.

AFM, I don't think I will buy much this time around, except for maybe some more weather appropriate clothes toward the end. I got a bin full of clothes from my cousin, I bought stuff at some garage sales, and also bought a few new items mainly from Target and Kohls. However I do need to buy some lounge pants that fit around my waist/belly but that are not tight at the ankle. I find when I wear legging type pants at night my legs get more restless as opposed to wearing pants looser at the ankles.

  • Managed to find some $9 maternity jeans at target. They were technically cropped but I’m so short they fit like ankle length 🤷‍♀️ Anyone have any ideas for larger nursing bras? I was a 38GG or 38J pre-pregnancy 😩
  • @rox7777 that's a good idea.  I need to try that!  I started wearing full panel maternity jeans the last week or so, but I'm constantly being awkward pulling them up.
  • I have a couple bins of clothes from my last pregnancy, but to fill in the gaps of a different season, I intend to shop on Thread Up for secondhand maternity (https://www.thredup.com/) or get lots off Facebook marketplace.
  • @bananapanda Pure desperation over here. I need a L/12-14 maternity pants to find my bottom half but my top half is a S. Those full belly panels don’t fit me until well into the second trimester, but I carry very low and Demi and under the belly put too much pressure down there for me. Pregnancy is glamorous.
  • Previously on this board someone mentioned to me side panel pants for earlier in pregnancy and full panel for later.  I haven’t tried on any full panel yet, but picked up a pair of side panel jeans at Target for about $30 and I am in love.  The first pair I tried on based on pre-pregnancy size fit well and I wish all my pants were this comfortable.  They stay up but definitely have plenty of room to grow.

I keep dreaming of a whole new wardrobe (not practical) because right now all my shirts ride up and my pants fall down.  I’ve been living in tunic tops and cardigans and wraps.  I’m pretty sure winter is here to stay now as it’s already been snowing for two weeks and forecast to continue, so I will be looking for a few more work worthy layers.
  • I bought a few waistless sweater dresses this weekend because I just can't stand to have anything around my waist right now.

My local maternity store is closing this week though and I'm really nervous about buying maternity clothes online -- I think they all fit so differently. I didn't realize Target had them though! That's great to know.
  • My first two pregnancies I lived in gap maternity  t-shirts and non-maternity elastic waist skirts from old navy. They’re still in great condition so I’m not planning to buy anything else unless I need something special.
  • I'm thinking I want my entire winter wardrobe to just be tunic-y style sweatshirts and leggings.
Like this sweater or similar in every color I can find, leggings, and some comfortable tennis shoes. All winter. And that'll be it for me.

Has anyone found good workout pants? Pre-pregnancy, I wore Old Navy active crops and I’m looking for something similar, just with an expanded tummy area. Thanks!
  • @anneyabs since high waisted pants are currently in style I picked up a pair of high waisted leggings from Target that seem to work well for now.  I'm not sure how they'll be once I'm larger, but have more fabric up top than my other leggings and don't show my crack continually!
  • @pirateduck thanks! I bought some pairs from the Gap too and will be trying those. Fingers crossed!
  • All I want is some pants that fit and Pink Blush has 1000 styles so I was really excited.  Then I looked at their size chart and measured my current hips and if all that is accurate NONE of them are large enough to fit me.  Pre-pregnancy I’m a size 8.  Not a tiny girl, but not in plus sizes either.  I was way frustrated and disappointed.

Does anyone have experience ordering pants from this site?  How did you find the actual sizing compared to their size chart?  Or what was your pre-pregnancy size compared to the size you ordered?

i find it hard to believe they don’t make pants large enough to accomodate my hips or anyone larger when they specialize in maternity sizes.
  • @pirateduck I haven’t ordered for that reason. I’m pre pregnancy an 8, but I carry my weight in my bottom half and have an above average hip width. If I go by my hip measurements it looks like regular sizing wouldn’t fit me. I think I might be able to shop their plus size section, but honestly the sizing charts put me off. I like the old navy maternity pants. Once again, the sizing seems a little off to me, but it still fits even if I do size up some.
  • @rox7777 i also looked at their plus stuff and all they had in plus was ripped up jeans...  not suitable for work!  i ordered 5 pairs from gap and old navy in assorted styles/sizes in hopes at least one fits.  We'll see when they get here!
  • @pirateduck I like the Stevie ponte pant and the rock star in both maternity and non. The rock star seems to be more forgiving of curves, but I do specifically look for the ones that say stretch.
  • @rox7777 I will say I got 2 pairs from Target.  The ones that were boot cut size 8 fit generously enough (almost on the large side).  The ones that were skinny size 8 didn't fit.  I could put them on, but they were so tight on my thighs I don't think I'd be able to wear them more than a few weeks at best (and didn't really want to wear them at all) whereas the other pants I see myself in for a few months.  Same brand, just different cuts, both side panel/inset panel style.

@rox7777 Was it you I was talking to about Zella vs. Blanqi leggings? After using both I've decided that Zella's win for comfort. They feel way more like my Lulu's. Much softer.
  • @ruby696 Yes! I was curious. I like the Blanqi, but they’re a bit big. I have super long legs and a shorter torso so the belly panel is way too high/too much material. I might have to order the zellas because I don’t think the Blanqi will fit until the third trimester.
  • @ruby696 @rox7777 I like zella better than blanqi too. I sized up in them per reviews so they are pretty loose around the belly for me, so hopefully that means they fit later. I tried the girlfriend maternity ones too and they are my favorite- although look a little more like activewear compared to the other two.
  • @rachelg777 and @rox7777 The material is tougher I guess on the Blanqis? I mean, they're not nearly as soft. Maybe that means they're more durable, but they're not as comfortable. And yes, so much belly material! I think that will be good in 3rd tri, but for now my pants go up to my boobs. So that's.... interesting. 😂
  • @ruby696 I had mine tucked under my shorts bra the other day. 😂 But I do agree, the material is so durable! It appeals to me,
so I’ll probably end up buying the post partum ones if my lulus don’t fit right away.

@rachelg777 I’ve heard good things and I know Nordstrom has awesome reviews on them. I do like the Blanqi, I just wish the belly panel wasn’t so long. My lulus still sit up pretty high so I’ve been making do, but I think my butt is starting to stretch them thin. 😳
  • Hey ladies, it looks like we started using an old maternity clothes thread again by accident.  We stopped using this one after the member who originally started the thread had a loss, so that she'd stop seeing all the notifications.  There's a second trimester specific maternity clothes thread here that we should try to use instead.  :)
