Re: October 2019 Randoms

  • How’s everyone doing? I feel like things would slow down now that it’s Fall - but this is a busy month too. Looking forward to a trip to Sesame, Homecoming and Halloween 😊
  • @shoretobe We just took a trip to Sesame on Monday and it was DELIGHTFUL.  Especially compared to the crowds and heat of our last trip which was on a summer Saturday.  I hope you guys have the best time!  All is really, really good here.  It is total hubris to say because I'm coming off of a 4-day weekend and my husband is still on leave, but I feel like we're actually in a good place for once, managing the day-to-day chaos of life.  I'm sure it will be a short-lived feeling, but gonna enjoy it while I can!  How are you?  You said you were living in Tantrumville - how's it going?  And any IVF update?

  • We are in take pants off and take off your diaper and pee or poop in your onesie or on the floor world. It’s terrible. The fact he can pull it from inside the onesie and then you can’t tell is the worst. He won’t Use the potty much and then runs and pees.
We are also in biting mode. He thinks it’s funny. My 6 year old is his favorite target.
How much are your little ones talking? He talks when he wants something really bad but mostly grunts. I am thinking since he’s a third child everyone does stuff for him and he doesn’t have to talk.

  • @shoretobe I’m also looking forward to Halloween. They are all going to look so adorable!

@ashtuesday glad you’re getting the swing of things with two babies!

@mepeg Nate also takes his pants off. Even when I put tight ones on now. For the moment, he’s not taking his diaper off anymore. But I’m sure that’s coming back too. His talking is not bad. He talks jibberish all day long, but does use a handful of words like: help, please, thank you, mama, daddy, papa, nanny, nana, cookie, eat, cup, pup, bus, tea, poop, push, truck, track track (tractor), cat, and all his animal sounds.
  • @megpeg That is both horrifying and hilarious (although I'm sure it's not funny to you!).  The fact that he can get his diaper off from under his onesie without you knowing is fully awe-inspiring.  I hope this is a short-lived phase!!!  Nora talks a LOT - she is very, very verbal.  My husband and I were just talking last night about how we know it's not normal, and we know we're spared a lot of the can't-communicate toddler frustration.
  • @ashtuesday it’s still mildly funny. I just bought a bunch of one piece outfits to try to remedy things but they also cannot have zippers that are not covered at the top or he will unzip them and take them off. He is a smart little cookie and uses it for evil.
He is going to be a Dalmatian for Halloween. My mother in law is being Cruela when we  are camping and I will for Halloween. She has the costume left from five years ago and it is awesome.(my 11 year old still is scared of it.)

  • @ashtuesday that’s so great - life feels amazing those times when you’re making it all flow. Hope you have more days like that then not. They’re monitoring me now and I’ve started the estrogen (which makes me tired) - then shots so hopefully a transfer by the end of the month. I’m nervous and excited and just really hopeful it goes well. Thanks so much for asking. That’s amazing N is so verbal - it must really help she can say what she wants. Maeve knows what she wants and babbles so much which all means something to her - we’re learning to decipher, lol.
@megpeg oh my goodness! Sometimes these kids are just too smart - I’m always thinking “how did your thought process get you this point?” Hope the one piece outfits help, or that the potty becomes fun to use. Those costumes sound adorable!
@mccurleya that’s a lot of words! That’s fantastic - I love the animals noises they make.

How are naps going for everyone? Some days it’s two average naps (like 40 mins - 1hr), others it’s a long one or a total cuddle day, and some days she sleeps on car rides and that’s it. Guess that’s partly on me for not ever having a schedule - she does ok mostly no matter what, but I notice  she just gets a little more cranky with no naps.
  • @shoretobe naps all depend on when he goes to sleep at night and when he wakes up in the morning. At daycare he naps around 12:30 I think and sometimes goes until 3. At home, if he wakes up early, he’s tired early, so we take a morning nap and he stays up all afternoon and goes to bed early. If he sleeps in a little, we take an afternoon nap and he stays up later to sleep in some. Today though, he woke up at 4am and refused to nap this morning. So he’s taking a nap now (11:30 am) and will probably sleep until 1 or so.
  • Naps are not fantastic here. He takes a half hour one in the morning most days and then maybe another one when we are running around picking kids up from school and dropping them off at practices. He keeps waking up crying in the morning nap and it’s terrible.

  • @shoretobe I'm sorry the estrogen is wearing you out.  I'm so excited the process is moving forward - hoping the shots are bearable and that all keeps going well!

Nora naps from roughly 11-1 every day.  She dropped her second nap over the summer, but she's still adjusting - by around 5:30-6 every night, she gets suuuuuuper cranky and I know it's just from being overtired.  We try to get her in bed by 7-7:30 every night to compensate, but it's hard.
  • Hey guys!!

Our naps are weird too.  We are down to 1 nap a day. He wakes up between 630 and 730am and naps from about 12-2ish.  Bedtime is at 7 though, any later and he is struggling and cranky.

@shoretobe Thats so exciting about the IVF progress!!

Im so excited for cooler weather and more outdoors time.  We had a small cool front this morning and spent a good chunk of the morning at the park without sweating!
  • @sgrn18 we’re also enjoying the cool weather! We’ve been outside for hours every day these past few days. It’s incredible
  • Anyone have leads on a really good detangler?  Murph's hair is super curly and baby thin, so she gets these AWFUL snarls just from rolling around. We have to saturate her hair with detangler and comb it out twice a day. Johnson & Johnson leaves it super greasy/gross feeling; Honest is only marginally better. Anyone encounter another brand they love?
  • Professional brand- pravana Nevo intense therapy. It lasts forever and is light.

  • @megpeg Nevee heard of this, so I just looked it up - damn, goid reviews!!  Thank you!
  • @megpeg good to know.
We’ve been using suave kids, but I feel like I have to use way too much for it to work and like @ashtuesday said it feels thick/greasy on her hair.
The Johnson and Johnson curl defining shampoo has been good - especially when I comb her hair up after a bath (away from her neck), I use a little of ogx 3 bonding plex (it’s like a leave in conditioner - I just have to remember to use a dab not like a quarter size) then her hair falls/curls naturally as it dries (only to become a mess again after she sleeps 😂)
  • @shoretobe I was wondering about that Johnson and Johnson stuff. I saw someone mention it on fb. Nate is just allergic to everything else, so I wonder if that would cause a reaction. Worse case scenario, I could use it 🤷🏻‍♀️
  • Thanks for the recommendation @megpeg
  • So my husband's on paternity leave and has been doing the SAHD thing for the last 7 weeks.  He doesn't complain at all, but this week really got to him.  I've been trying to give him some space - usually a night of video games helps him reset himself - but he's just been in a rut all week.  Yesterday, I had the idea to surprise him with plans, so I have my mom coming over to watch N and M this evening while I take him out to the movies.  It is such a small thing and I am SO RIDICULOUSLY EXCITED to see his reaction.  It's really the little things!
  • That would make me super excited- good work! Being home with kids all the time is hard and makes you weird.

  • @ashtuesday Have fun! I hope it works 😀 what movie are y’all going to see?
  • @mccurleya We saw Joker and I wanted to die for about 90% of it. Motherhood ruined disturbing movies for me!
  • @ashtuesday we want to see that movie too! But I know what you mean. I used to think Scared Straight was hilarious and then my professor showed it in class the other night and I almost cried for that poor kid. Motherhood changes a lot haha
  • Looking so grown up today!

  • @megpeg 😍😍😍 So handsome!!
  • Oh my gosh how cute is he!? @megpeg

is anyone dressing up for Halloween? Nate will be Marshall from Paw Patrol (the Dalmatian) and I think I’m going to attempt Curella Deville
  • @mccurleya Declan is being a Dalmatian and so is my 6 year old daughter and I am being cruella and my oldest is being one of the robbers.

  • @mccurleya There was a brief movement for all the adults in my family to go as various Mr. Noodles, but we abandoned that, so no costume for me. Murph will be a lion (husband's random choice), and Nora will either be an owl or a karate kid (because she "does karate" all the time thanks to an episode where Elmo does).
  • @megpeg Twins! we’ll have to compare costumes! Haha
  • I love all the costume ideas! LO will be Woody this year!

Guys toddlerhood hit us HARD this week.  Everything starts a meltdown.  Can't use the inside of the box as a chair? = tears and throwing himself around for 20 mins.  Cant eat goldfish every second of the day? = multiple meltdowns until I hide the bag,  then meltdown that the bag is gone.  He has some big toddler feelings now.  Lol
  • @sgrn18 Nate does too. It’s so crazy
  • Same. It’s terrible. He wants me to sit on the couch all day.

  • I always have grand plans of what we are going to be for Halloween and then when the time comes no time or energy to bring it all together.  One day...one day!
  • Church Trunk or Treat
  • Okay, anyone else feeling amplified toddler mom guilt?  My husband goes back to work today, and I feel so bad. I know it's illogical - we've been home for six months!  My mom will be with them 3x per week!  N loves day care, and M will too! - but I feel terrible. When N was a baby, I could justify that I was the only one really bothered, but now N can express it. She'll look at me about three times a night and contentedly say "Mommy home!" I know I couldn't hack it as a SAHM, but the long days away are killing me ☹️
  • ...as a counterpoint to that post, here is Nora waving "Bye!" so I'll let her play with her dollhouse in peace. 🙄

At least Murph is happy I'm home!

  • @ashtuesday YES. Any night we have cheer practice I feel absolutely terrible for leaving him because I’ve only seen him for an hour before I have to leave. It’s a little easier when someone else picks him up from daycare and I just see him later so I don’t have to see him cry. But I know he walks around the house saying, “mama?” looking for me and that just breaks my heart.
  • I sometimes really hate working 12 hr shifts.  I like being off with LO 4 days a week but with his bedtime and wake time, when i work weekends ill see him friday morning then not again until monday morning.  He's asleep when I get home from work and I consider staying home all the time.  I am very lucky that LO loves his daycare and I dont have issues dropping him off or i would quit on the spot lol .  I think when a second kid comes into the picture I will stay home for a while and maybe do PRN work.  Okay now im just fantasizing lol.
  • I am going to try to get a better one later but here it is for now.
