H and I went to Fallingwater yesterday and I cried when we walked up to the house for the first time. Lol. Pregnancy hormones plus studying Frank Lloyd Wright a ton in school just really overwhelmed me I guess. It was amazing to see it though!!
We had our elective ultrasound this weekend and confirmed that we are indeed having a third boy (like the NT scan seemed to allude to)! DS1 was hoping for another brother so he is happy. I think diapers are likely the only thing we really need to get to be ready for #3!
I found out this weekend that another local friend of mine is pregnant and due in April. The weird coincidence - all three local friends that I've found out are due in April are all named Sarah.
@miss.sally, sounds fun. I don't blame you for having an emotional reaction.. I cry at the drop of a hat these days.
@kailanae, yay for another boy! it's so nice not to have to start over with clothes and things.
DD had a sleepover this weekend and I was completely hands-off since I figured 13 year olds wouldn't want to play 'games' organized by mom anyway. It turned out ok, though a little noisy of course. Can't say I wasn't a little relieved when the last girl took off the next morning.
@miss.sally Haha I love that you cried over a house. I swear pregnancy hormones are hilarious. I bet it was awesome though! @kailanae You are OFFICIALLY a boy mom with three boys! I think that's awesome.
AFM I was VIOLENTLY ill all day yesterday... it kept getting worse and worse and not better. My OB finally called in Zofran around 6 PM. My mom got it and I took it at 7. HUGE help. I REALLY needed to make it to work today, so I am glad I called and got it. Stomach bug... ughhhhh. DS puked on my phone, me, and my keys Friday, so I knew this was coming my way haha.
@miss.sally FFMC: I had to google what Fallingwater is lol
@kailanae congrats on a boy!!! You boys are going to have such a fun childhood!
AFM, had a great weekend: rainy and cold, but DH was home, so DH, DS, and I just hung out and enjoyed one another. Was able to go through all of DS's baby clothes, save what I'll be able to use to with DD (first time typing that! AAAAHHHH!), and bag the rest up for donation. Did a good amount of cooking and baking - pretty sure I only bake when I'm pregnant LOL - so now we have food and snacks for the week. And I guess I'm still feeling the affects of pregnancy fatigue, because I went to bed really early both Friday and Saturday nights (right after we put DS to bed) and slept for 11-12 hours each night! It was glorious.
So, everything was lovely and peachy... and then last night DS dropped my brand new Apple Watch and shattered the screen LOL. First world problems. I'm happy to go back to using my old apple watch, but DH is obsessed with trying to fix it. Whatevs.
DH is sick. It may be the dreaded man flu. *eye roll* But if it’s legit, I don’t want it! So I left work early to get DS to daycare before I went to the dentist. Then I caught up on This is Us. 😭 It doesn’t usually make me cry, but it did this time!
Lol @stassischroeder I forget most people aren’t design/architecture/history obsessed like I am. Having two parents who are architects, basically every book I grew up reading/looking at was design based. 😂
@EmilyLove25 oof. So sorry you were so sick. I hope you feel a lot better today. So sorry you had to go to work when getting over a stomach bug.
@kailanae I thought I saw a penis on my NT scan (she had an underneath shot of baby, right between the legs), but was hoping it was too early for that to be an indicator it’s def a boy. But everything I’m reading online says that means the baby is a boy and your story seems to confirm that too ha.
@mrsvp614 I caught up on This is us over the weekend. I watched like 4 episodes and I was sobbing. I haven’t cried for a show in a long time but these hormones really got me emotional lol
@EmilyLove25 So sorry you felt so sick!! I hope your feeling better!!
Have been so tired I just wish I could sleep in longer. DH is not the quietest when getting ready for work. On one note my mom and stepdad finally moved out of our house!!! YAY!!! My dad ordered us a crib for DD and is going to help DH assemble it this weekend while I’m at work! I’m so excited that things are finally coming together!!!
since I'm technically due april 1, i'm behind on a few things around here. I officially can't fit in to anything but some skirts and dresses at this point and all I want to do is wear pants but maternity is a tad too big. I'm not sure how some of you use belly bands or the hair tie trick - the open button is annoying as shit.
@chichiphin ugh, the in-between stage is the WORST. I don't have any great advice - I've used both a belly band and the hair tie trick, but don't really like either. If you're feeling spendy, you could always just buy regular clothes a size up (might come in handy post partum anyway), otherwise you just kinda have to suffer through with whatever tricks you can tolerate. This stage should only last a couple weeks, though!
@chichiphin I’m in that exact stage. Either everything I put on in the am feels right but by lunch I feel like a can of broken biscuits. I’ve worn a lot of stretchy yoga type pants. It’s still to hot for pants her in TN. So I mostly wear athletic shorts (which are getting snug...) or my just past the knee yoga stretch ones. It’s that time of year where you might find deals on those things too. Otherwise I do lots of dresses because that’s keeps baby where she’s most free.
@chichiphin, I’m 17 weeks and still have almost no bump, so I feel ya. My best “tricks” so far (since I loathe the belly band and hair tie trick too) — buy one pair of maternity jeans/pants for now and wear the heck out of them; host a clothing swap (I snagged a few pairs of stretchier pants 2 or so sizes bigger than I usually wear and I’m currently wearing one of them), and check out thrift stores for less expensive “for now” solutions that could work for a few months now and postpartum. I’ve found stretchier lower cut jeans (c. 2000s) have worked. Also, depending on your office environment, fancy stretch pants (the ones I’ve got on today are essentially velvet-y leggings with fake pockets and a tunic) have been nice. Good luck!
I am not so patiently waiting for the weather to cool down just enough so I can wear leggings every day. I’m so sick of real clothes. I just want to be in pajamas all the time. Which is bad since I’m not even halfway through the pregnancy. Lol
@chichiphin I too am having such trouble with clothes, but the major issue for me is that it's so darn hot! I wish I could just wear stretchy pants! But also, underwear is an issue--I keep running out of the stuff that really fits, and I'm not sure what to buy to bulk up my collection, though the article on TB that popped up about underwear was seemingly helpful?
@miss.sally lol SAMES see my above comment to chichi. I wear the same 2-3 flowy dresses all the time at home lol but i just want to wear leggings--my 90+ degree walk across campus though isn't having it.
@pdx2020 I'm totalllly trying to get my department to host a clothing swap on campus lol so i can benefit from it! (I hosted one at my house last spring, but I live sort of far from campus, so I'm hoping they'll do it.)
@pdx2020 yeah I need business professional/bus casual to get by at work most days. thankfully a lot of dresses do the trick right now. I miss my dress pants so badly though!
@chichiphin last time I had bought bands called the “belly button band” and those actually buttoned onto my jeans so there was no button left open. They had different further apart settings I could choose. They were great all pregnancy and I never ended up buying maternity pants. This time those are a little too big since I started at a smaller weight so I bought a regular belly band and I agree I’m not so much of a fan. I don’t have the code for free belly button bands this time but I’m considering getting some anyways because of how much I loved them last time.
Me: 33 | DH: 34 Married: October, 19, 2015 EDD 2/22/17 DS1 born on 3/2/17 EDD 3/8/20 DS2 born on 3/10/20 EDD 11/24/23 (Formerly Marriedhamstermom Feb ‘17)
I'm with @miss.sally and ready for leggings 24/7. I've been switching between my biggest size dress pants and a maternity pants at work, but the maternity pants are tricky right now and don't stay up well because my bump isn't that big yet.
@chichiphin I’m still in that in-between phase, too. FTM so my bump isn’t super big yet, and the couple pairs of maternity pants I bought secondhand feel big. Also as several have said, the HEAT, ugh! Running out of flowy dresses/drapey tops that are appropriate for work and just want to be in an officially bump-flaunting phase.
This is a random but also a rant I suppose? I’m SO sick of water. Super over it. Seltzer, flavored water, I’m over it all. I miss my wine 😫
@hmjensen I’m super over water also! I’ve been getting those true lemon raspberry lemonade packets and using them to keep my liquid intake up. It’s a struggle.
I'm so over water too... I've been buying tons of lemons and making extreme lemon water. I've also been drinking tea. I panicked about it because I have this irrational fear of gestational diabetes and my OB just kind of laughed and was like, "Listen. You're healthy and that sugar intake at a certain level doesn't even matter... the placenta usually dictates how sugar is processed so it's luck of the drawl sometimes so enjoy your damn tea lol"
@chichiphin omg lol re: iced tea. When you read my post elsewhere, you will see why this is funny.
+4 or whatever for being Done With Water. I was SO GOOD at drinking enough water before I was pregnant, and now those days seem impossible. I've tried lemon water (not Extreme Lemon Water though lol) and cucumber water, but I think I just hate our water? But yall are making me feel like It's Not Just Our Water. If water sits for like more than an hour, I have to dump it out and get new water. Also, something in our freezer smells terrible, and I told DH, but he doesn't seem to care?!? And I'm like "iT'S AFFECTING THE TASTE OF THE ICED CUBEs" but 1) it's not, I'm just paranoid but 2) IT COULD IF WE DON'T GET RID OF IT AND 3) I can't bring myself to figure out what it is bc the smell is so bad to me!!! Gahhh.
I'm late to the party, sorry everyone. I got into a terrible car accident on Tuesday afternoon on my way back to work after lunch. A car ran a red light and smashed into me, and I spent the entire afternoon and night at the ER. I've never been more scared in my life. My car is totaled. The baby appears to be doing okay... heartbeat still strong and the ultrasound I got at the hospital showed the baby moving around like normal. But FUCK!!! I'm being punished by some higher power lately, I swear.
I missed work yesterday and was dealing with police and insurance. The car that hit me lied about their insurance being active and up-to-date. When I called yesterday to report the claim, I was informed that they failed to pay their monthly insurance and their policy was canceled back in September. Thankfully my insurance is covering everything and is going to sue these people for their negligence.
It was the worst day ever, on top of a lot of bad days that I've been having lately.
@miss.sally Awe, it's hilarious and cute that you cried. I love Frank Lloyd Wright. I go see the Dana Thomas House as often as I can since it's here in my town. Pregnancy hormones, man... I cry about everything!
@treetop19 Bahaha It's good that DD was able to have her party and the girls kept themselves occupied, but I can imagine it was nice to have them all leave the next day. Peace and quiet are vital!
@EmilyLove25 Yay for Zofran saving the day!! I hope you feel better! And I hope your kiddo is feeling better!
@stassischroeder Omg that amount of sleep sounds heavenly! Life has been a clusterfuck of chaos for me and all I want to do is curl up and take an epic nap. Also bummer about the Apple Watch!
@mrsvp614 Ohhh noooo not man flu! I sure hope you don't catch whatever bug he has, though. Being sick is the worst! Oh and I still need to watch this season of This is Us! I'm ready to cry!
@bygodsgrace20 Aw that's so nice of your dad to order a crib and help assemble it! My mom bought us a crib a few weeks ago and it's still in the box...
@chichiphin Dude, I feel you! My pants are all too snug, but maternity stuff is all too big so far. I HATE belly bands because my shirts don't always hang lower than my pants and it looks ridiculous at this point, lol! The clothing swap is nice idea @pdx2020! And YASSSSS @miss.sally & @kagesstarshroom I just want to wear leggings and jammies all the time, every single day! I have to be business casual at the least here at work, so dresses and skirts have been doing the trick so far. I need more dresses and skirts though because I wear the same three outfits practically every day.
@hmjensen Oh man, I'm sick of water too!!! I'll drink a Diet Coke on evenings when I need an energy boost and/or need to get rid of a headache... but it's usually just water for me and I'm tired of it. I miss wine! I miss super strong coffee! I miss my energy drinks even though they're totally unhealthy, lol! I'll have to get some lemonade packets like @miss.sally suggested. That sounds good.
@kagesstarshroom Ewww I hate when ice cubes taste wrong! I hope your DH can clean the freezer out soon, cuz baaaaaarf.
@Malidocious Noooooooooooo!! So glad you and baby are ok, but shit...not what you need right now! I hope you're able to do something nice for yourself in the next few days in the midst of all this.
@Malidocious omgggggg! I’m SO GLAD you and baby are doing ok (physically). Cannot even imagine the emotions though. I’m totally tearing up writing this. Car crashes are one of my biggest fears. My friend was in a horrible on at 8 months pregnant, totaled her car and everything, but she and baby were miraculously ok.
There was/is this bread company out in the Seattle area called Great Harvest, and they have this cinnamon chip bread that is heaven. Today I started craving it so badly (and of course it isn’t anywhere near Pittsburgh), I went to FOUR different grocery stores to find all the ingredients. Let me tell you. It was well worth it. I ate half a loaf when it came out of the oven. My whole house smells like gooey cinnamon bread. I think this is going to become a regular in my baking schedule. Yum.
@Malidocious that is so scary!! I’m so sorry that happened to you, but very very glad to hear that you and baby are doing okay. I hope you’re feeling alright, though I’m sure you have aches and pains at the very least.... not to mention that headache over insurance claims. You deserve a big turn of events in your favor soon!! 💜
@keeksie84 there are so many things I’m craving from there.
Have you ever ever been to Pel Meni? It’s a Russian dumpling place in Fremont. It used to be in Bellingham and I went ALL the time in college. I tried to re-create them here and it wasn’t quite the same. I’d kill for some of those right now. 😭. @miss.sally, I haven't but I'll have to check it out! Sounds delicious. Now I'm thinking of "Seattle foods" and craving Paseo hard core. Did you ever go there for a sandwich?
