I was supposed to have an endocrine clinic appointment this afternoon. So I left work after lunch & when I went in, the place was empty & clinic had been cancelled but no one let me know & I have to go next week instead 😡😡 I really couldve done with not wasting my afternoon as i have twin clinic tomorrow afternoon which is another full afternoon out of work when I have so much to do.
The second opinion is that everything looks fine. I have a slightly low lying placenta but he expects it to resolve. We will have another scan at 28 weeks to be sure but everything looks fine in his mind. So all that is good news but I'm still terrified. What an emotional rollercoaster!
@biolprof great news!!!! It's a shame you couldn't have received that the first time around, but that's what 2nd opinions are for! Try to relax and we're all rooting for a great scan at 28 weeks!
@biolprof i am so delighted to hear this! That must be such a relief for you! I had a low lying placenta that partially covered my cervix with dd initially but it moved & all was good, hopefully it will be the same for you!
@biolprof so no vasa previa? That's great news! As others have echoed, low lying placentas do move up (had this with my DD) and often are no big deal by the end of pregnancy.
3hr placenta study appointment yesterday. The first half was really cool. More ultrasounds and they also did infrared measurements of the placenta while paying attention to the oxygenation of the placenta, including having me put an O2 mask on for 7 minutes. That part was not fun. It's super drying. But we got to see her being super active which was cool, including when even the dr felt her kick haha! She wasn't having any of it though and kept her face good and hidden so we didn't get great pics to take home with us, except a cute one of her hand in front of her face and then her flexing her "guns" LOL!
Then I had an MRI as well. That was an experience. It was fine until the last 20min where my back was on fire from being on my back for so long. I think she was totally responding to the sounds of the MRI machine (which are super loud) as she was super active during the entire time (about an hour). We got a CD of those images as well, which I need to look at still! 1 more appointment like this next trimester.
I had my 24 week twin clinic this afternoon, had bloods taken & urine sample, my blood pressure was a little high but im blaming that on a stressful morning in work. Then I seen my consultant & she did a scan & we had a chat about the pregnancy in general. Everything looked good with the babies, growing well with baby girl measuring about 1lb11oz & baby boy measuring about 1lb8oz. I asked about delivery even though its a bit early but dh needs to organise a locum to cover for him when hes on paternity leave. If I dont go early then I will most likely be taken in for an elective section of 23rd december & all going well discharged on christmas day. Obviously the babies health & wellbeing is priority but man the timing sucks 😭
I went to my mw appointment on Thursday and she said I was measuring "large," but didn't give me exact details. I am average/small size. The midwives always try not to make a big deal about things, but for someone with anxiety not knowing these details stresses me out. Plus, as someone with anxiety usually in the moment I try to pretend that everything is fine and I'm not worried, but it is only until later at home that I start worrying. Has anyone had this happen? Is it a big deal?
Trigger warning, Please skip if you are at all feeling vulnerable this pregnancy:
I lost this babies twin earlier in this pregnancy and so could it have anything to do with that? Also at my early appointments they kept saying my uterus 'moved up' early because of the twin pregnancy.
@ponyoisfun, with DS1 I consistently measured a week to 2 weeks ahead from about 11w until 38w. He ended up being 21.75" long. So, he was just a long baby. He continues to be a long kid, measuring in the 90th or higher percentile for height since about 3mos. With DD, at 39w, the OB predicted I'd have a 9 to 10lbs baby...and commented I'd easily be able to deliver one due to my height and hip breadth! A week later, at birth, she was just under 8lbs.
It could mean you have a bigger baby because you have a bigger human to cook. Or it could mean absolutely nothing. If your midwife didn't mention anything specific, I wouldn't worry. We're people, not text books. We're all different shapes and sizes. That goes for our preggo bellies, too.
@ponyoisfun was this a growth scan or her just using the tape measure on your belly? I measured 4 weeks ahead with ds starting around 28 weeks but it was through growth scans. I had them every few weeks along with nst’s to watch his growth until around 38 weeks. He was 9lbs10oz at birth. I don’t put a whole bunch of stock into the tape measurements as there is so much room for error. I wouldn’t worry too much. Like above said, everyone is different. Baby could be sitting more forward, the mw could have put the tape measure at a different spot, so many possibilities.
@ponyoisfun if it was the take measure, like @kbrown2385 said, don't take it too seriously. I measured ahead with DD and she was average sized. With this one, my uterus is positioned higher, so they're finding the heartbeat higher, but no one is concerned.
@persnickity, @FyreFlyeRush, @kbrown2385 Thank you for your reassurance. I feel so much better hearing this from other mothers rather than Dr. Google or a mw. No idea why that is.
Baby A (boy) measured 23w3d, 1lb6oz Baby B (girl) measured 21w3d, 15oz
The growth discordance got better again 🙌. We’ve seen a nice decline. 2 scans ago we were at 41%, last scan 31%, this scan 28%. Blood flow through her cord is staying the same, so not getting worse scan to scan which is good news. Feeling very happy today 🥰. Another blood flow check next week, another growth scan in two.
I haven't even been seen yet, but I'm so excited about my blood pressure I couldn't wait to post! It's down to 122/78. Normal for me. It had been as high as 155/90. But had been hovering around 140/80-144/85. So, the meds are working AND I'd say I finally relaxed about my pregnancy.
Thank you @marebear15 and @c1kc1kpol1cn1k for sharing your experiences. I just keep reminding myself that if there was something alarming they would have seen it at the AS and the most likely scenario is that everything is fine.
So, the NP asked if I was "feeling critter move yet" I responded, Oh yeah!. She laughed and said that's what she liked to hear. She came over to listen to his heart and...couldn't find it. I wasn't worried...I'd been feeling him move all morning, and still was. I warned her as soon as he heard the Doppler, he would follow it around, kicking it. She moved around trying to find it. He kicked the transponder. She moved it. He kicked it again. And again. And again. "I'd call that fetal movement". She finally found it, and was trying to listen when it disappeared, and you heard him rolling over (think long drawn out record scratch) and around and suddenly....BAM!. She looked at me like SERIOUSLY??? and said, "I see what you mean. Let me get out of the line of fire here, geez kid!" Fundal height is about 22+3, so right on target. Not worried about my lack of a bump. And baby is happy as can be in there.
After so many meh appointments, it was really nice to have a good one!

@leprechaunlady Ugggh! That's all I can say!
@biolprof don't you have an appt with MFM today? I might be remembering wrong, but I hope it goes well!! Keep us updated ❤
