Re: Weekly Check-in Groups 3&4 (Jan 17-31) w/o 9/16

  • EDD/Weeks + Days: Jan 26, D-18w6d (Delivery minus 18 weeks 6 day, I decided to count backwards, lol)

Baby is the size of a(n): One of Danaerys' dragon eggs

Team Finding Out/Blue/Pink/Green: Blue, like the brilliant Texas sky after a summer's storm (gags at poetic symbolism)

Upcoming Appointments: 22w OB, Sept 24.

How are you feeling? (Cravings/Symptoms):  Same old same old, now firmly stuck in the 2nd tri rut.

Rants/Raves: Ah...my daughter is being clingy and needy and I'm losing my skull. Yes, I miss her. Yes, I'm glad modern technology allows us to chat and video chat. But, I really don't need DAILY CONVERSATIONS VIA SKYPE/WeCHAT that last for 70 plus minutes over literally nothing. Ladies expecting girls, this is what extreme PMS, but not quite PMDD, looks like when Home Sickness strikes. I'm tempted to go renew her birth control subscription and FedEx it to her so she's mellow again. UGH!!!!!! *disclaimer* She has had horrible PMS the whole time, having mini-meltdowns over things like a pair of underwear (hers) being left on the bathroom floor (by her) or running out of cheese (that she doesn't eat) or having a customer ask her for limes at the restaurant she worked. It wasn't quite this bad when she lived in Taiwan, but maybe because she's more isolated in China??? IDK, she's been a CHALLENGE!!! OH! She actually (seriously) told me I can't have the baby until she gets back on Jan 21. I'm sorry, kiddo, that's not something I can control, and Dr.B said not past 38w, sooooooo maybe don't play tourist and come back when the term is up in Dec?????

Questions: I had a thought about this, but it died of loneliness.

GTKY:  If you could speak an additional language, which would it be and why? Science/Math. I understand music, though it's been a while. I already speak a fair amount of Spanish (aka TexMex), and I have bits and pieces of Korean, Japanese, and Chinese... But, with science and math, I could understand everything about the world and the universe and how it works, and maybe unlock the secrets and knowledge on how to fix a lot of what is wrong with this world...or learn to teleport between multi-verses...time travel...cold fusion...fuel cells that don't explode...get rid of fossil fuels and city lights...develop a Babel Fish (from Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy)..and then we would all understand all languages...unlock the secrets of religion...and we would stop fighting over it. Deep down, this cynical, jaded, LibTard is still a dreamer.

Baby is the size of a(n): cob of corn

    Team Finding Out/Blue/Pink/Green: PINK!

Upcoming Appointments: Oct 1st, 24 week

How are you feeling? (Cravings/Symptoms): STILL nauseated. WHY?? Energy levels are better. I'm feeling the need to clean and organize everything.

Rants/Raves: This morning was hectic. DH was sick yesterday throwing up and a fever, so he was staying home. While I'm trying to tiptoe and keep DD quiet during the morning, I get a call from my BIL (next door neighbor) saying his car won't start and he needs a jump. So I search  the whole garage, which is a mess because of our addition project), he comes over and finds them, but 10 minutes later, still can't get his car started. Thankfully we all work in the same area of town, so I was able to drop him and my sister off at work, take DD to daycare and get to work all with time to spare!

Questions: Does anyone else not get craving during pregnancy? I just get aversions. It sucks.

GTKY:  If you could speak an additional language, which would it be and why? Spanish? It's just really helpful here in Florida.
  • EDD/Weeks + Days: Jan 23rd, 21w 4d

Baby is the size of a(n): endive, banana, carrot??

    Team Finding Out/Blue/Pink/Green: blue!!

Upcoming Appointments:  I have a regular midwife appt on Wed.

How are you feeling? (Cravings/Symptoms):  I am still feeling pretty good.  H comes home tomorrow after being away for a week, so I am psyched about that!  Having our 3 girls on my own is exhausting.   As for cravings, I don't have a sweet tooth in real life, but when I am pregnant I have a giant one.  I am sure I gained one million pounds with H gone.   Nutella, choc chip pancakes choc chip banana bread, rice crispy treats.  My kids are in heaven with all the baking around here.

Rants/Raves:  Choosing a boy name is impossible!!

    Questions:  nope

GTKY:  If you could speak an additional language, which would it be and why? I already speak French.  Spanish would be helpful.

  • @marebear15, In past pregnancies, I get them toward the end, but not at all until the VERY END, the last 5 weeks or so.  The same so far with this one. Mostly, nothing sounds good or if it does, it's a one off. SO has one, though. His mom and I just figured it out and put it together. Since about 8w into my pregnancy, he has been craving fried chicken...ALL...THE..FREAKING...TIME. She's like, you've never liked Fried Chicken before!! And he'll say, it just tastes SOOOO GOOOD right now. Me: MIL name, this started about mid June. MIL: Yes, it did, you're right!

@FyreFlyeRush yes, please create a Babelfish. Also, I'm sorry she's driving you nuts but I think it's sweet your DD misses you so much.

@marebear15 sounds like a crazy morning! Hope YH feels better soon! I haven't really had any cravings or aversions. Although, I now enjoy croutons and raw baby carrots, 2 things I've never liked due to a texture, crunch thing. Now I think they're great!

@MollySm I'm also having a hard time choosing a boy name. So many more options for girls! Also your post made me hungry for chocolate, any chocolate.

    EDD/Weeks + Days: Jan 25th, 21 weeks, 2 days

Baby is the size of a(n): carrot

    Team Finding Out/Blue/Pink/Green: blue

Upcoming Appointments: tomorrow, anatomy scan! 😁

How are you feeling? (Cravings/Symptoms): achey and also tired thanks to pregsomnia.

Rants/Raves: I don't feel like I have much of a "bump" but my lower stomach is definitely feeling heavier and heavier and I'm starting to get bad lower back aches when standing. Just ordered a maternity belt and hoping that will help.

    Questions: none at the moment

GTKY:  If you could speak an additional language, which would it be and why? Also Spanish, just because it would be the most useful here. Otherwise, I think it'd be cool to know Russian.

    Edit: typo
  • @MollySm - I can imagine 3 girls all on your own is exhausting! I've been on a baking spree too lately. I think it comes with the nesting.

@FyreFlyeRush - I don't remember craving anything with DD1. I remember just thinking, Oh that sounds okay and won't be bad to throw up. This time I do want things more salty than normal, but it's not one thing.

@peppyj9 - Tomorrow will be here before you know it! Keep us updated.
  • EDD/Weeks + Days: 1/22 21w5d

Baby is the size of a(n): toothbrush in length

    Team Finding Out/Blue/Pink/Green: purple

Upcoming Appointments: ob on Friday and mfm scan on the 23rd

How are you feeling? (Cravings/Symptoms): I’m in pain. I’m starting with the chiropractor tomorrow and I can’t wait. I’m craving lots of salty foods too.

Rants/Raves: we went grocery shopping at two stores yesterday and I couldn’t move by the time we got home. Dh sprayed the house for fleas. I’m giving the cats another dose of meds but I think we’ve beaten them.

Questions: Why can’t they just sell diaper bags with everything I want???

GTKY: If you could speak an additional language, which would it be and why? Probably Spanish as it would be very useful. I’ve always wanted to learn Russian though.
  • @marebear15 I’m still dealing with some nausea. It’s getting old. Glad your morning ended up working out!

@peppyj9 exciting your anatomy scan is tomorrow! Hope the belt helps you!

@MollySm choosing names is so hard! I hope you find one you like soon. Exciting yh is coming home! I couldn’t imagine 3 by yourself and pregnant. You’re a rockstar.
  • @kbrown2385 - Oh my word, I feel you on the diaper bag issue. I actually took your advice and found a nice bag organizer that fit inside a plain oversized Target purse. It has all the pockets I need!
  • @marebear15 awesome! I’m so glad those worked out for you! It may end up what I do as well. I’m over it, Dh is over listening to me talk about it. Ugh.
  • EDD/Weeks + Days: Jan 27; 21+0 weeks

Baby is the size of a(n): My Little Pony (saw this in an e-mail today and as a child of the 80s/90s it resonated with me  )

    Team Finding Out/Blue/Pink/Green: Team Green

Upcoming Appointments: None for a while.  I have a blood draw to recheck my pesky thyroid hormone levels next week, but otherwise nothing until the 2nd week of October.

How are you feeling? (Cravings/Symptoms): Really sore.  I overdid it this weekend and my hips, back, and round ligaments are not happy.  It was pretty fun getting into a little nesting with cleaning/moving furniture around and getting DD's room set up and cleaned with her new "big girl" furniture, but I definitely bit off more than I could physically handle.  I'm going to prenatal yoga tonight, so hopefully that will help!

Rants/Raves: Like lots of the other ladies here, I'm really starting to feel the pull of my lower belly on my back, hips, and round ligaments.  Hard to believe I've still got another 19ish weeks to go through this, and my belly is only getting bigger!

Questions: How big of an age gap would you consider appropriate for same-sex siblings to share a room?  What about opposite-sex siblings (eg, at which age would it become a problem for the older sibling in your opinion?)  Third child, three-bedroom house problems, haha!  (I know we'll make it work regardless, just curious about others opinions on this as I've been discussing it with work colleagues recently.  Also, the baby will be in our room until they turn 1-1.5ish, so the room sharing will never be with an infant).

GTKY:  If you could speak an additional language, which would it be and why? My top international dream destinations are Italy and Germany, although I do know a touch of both of these languages due to highschool/college language courses, so I probably wouldn't pick them.  Probably Spanish because it would be the most useful.
  • @cats_in_a_window - We are having the same question about room sharing.  We have 3 regular sized bedrooms, and one small room with no closet.  We use the small one as a nursery.  We have 3 girls, and totally expected this baby to be a 4th girl.  So once baby was old enough to be out of the nursery, our plan was to have 2 girls in each room, and then turn the small room into a 4 kid closet(it's an old house so the closets in the other two rooms are tiny).  But then the shocker came that this baby is a boy!  Do we do 3 and 1?  Decide not to have the big closet and keep that small room a bedroom (but it is super small and with no closet will be tough).  Or have #3&4 share even though they are opposite genders.   I think we are leaning towards that for now, and then putting off the final decision a few years.   #3 will be 3 when baby is born.  I've been trying to figure out what age she will be when they get too old to share.  Our oldest will be 8 when baby is born, so only 9 years til she heads to college (😭😭😭).   Can an 8 year old boy and a 11 year old girl share a room? I have no idea.

I've been out of the loop for a little while. Life has been crazy, but starting to settle back down...

@marebear15 I have not had any specific cravings yet. I find I usually want whatever I see on tv, or someone suggests. I have heard that the intense cravings come more towards the end of pregnancy.

@cats_in_a_window & @MollySm I think opposite-sex sibling sharing is appropriate until the older child hits puberty. Same-sex, I'd think it's more about their ability to get along than the age gap. But, I'm a first-time mom, so take my advice with a big grain of salt, haha.

    EDD/Weeks + Days: 22 1/2 weeks - Jan 17

Baby is the size of a(n): Bunny rabbit? I don't know if this true, but I keep dreaming about taking care of rabbits.

    Team Finding Out/Blue/Pink/Green: Pink

Upcoming Appointments: Gosh, I have to check. Once I got past the 20-week scan I sort of stopped looking forward to the appointments.

How are you feeling? (Cravings/Symptoms): Hot, achy, and cranky. My poor husband...

Rants: I hit a bit of a wall in the last week or so. Just tired of being hot and uncomfortable. Can't have a refreshing beer or rosé on those hot summer days. Can't get comfortable to sleep. My belly seems HUGE and is just going to get bigger...

Raves: We put an offer in on a house!!! We are so excited, just hoping everything works out and this time next month we'll be homeowners! And then the nesting can begin!

Questions: So, I got a call after my 20-week scan. They think the baby is big, 14oz instead of the average 10.5oz for a 20 week old. I have to have another scan at 34 weeks to check her progress. Anyone else have/had a "big baby?" Maybe they just calculated my due date wrong or something?

GTKY:  If you could speak an additional language, which would it be and why? Sign Language! I took a class in college but have forgotten most of it. It was fun!
  • @kbrown2385 totally agree. I can't find what I want in a diaper bag. I found what I want in a pumping bag though for work. So there's that.

@marebear15 I haven't had any like crazy cravings, but when someone suggests something (like tatertots) I can't get it out of my head until I get my hands on it. It's super weird.

@schreibaby my baby at 20+3 was 13oz. They didn't raise any sort of alarms at that. I think all of these are just "norms" and babies definitely have a range and can change depending on where their growth spurts are. But i'm a FTM so i'm just guessing LOL

    EDD/Weeks + Days: 1/17 22+3

Baby is the size of a(n): coconut

    Team Finding Out/Blue/Pink/Green: Pink

Upcoming Appointments: Tomorrow for placenta study, and 9/30 for OB

How are you feeling? (Cravings/Symptoms): Insomnia. I'm able to fall asleep pretty early, but it usually ends up being on the couch, and then when I wake up to go to bed bed, I can't freaking fall back to sleep. I got like 2hrs of sleep last night. Also heartburn is lovely.

Rants/Raves: Rave-mom doesn't have shingles. It's just a skin yeast infection. So that should clear right up.

Questions: how often do you change your mind about registry/baby stuff. I feel like i'll add something to the registry and then a week later change my mind and switch it up LOL. I feel like there are so many conflicting info about baby stuff.

GTKY:  If you could speak an additional language, which would it be and why? German. DH has family still in germany and he can speak a little.

Wow, our situations are similar, right down to the extra room that's really to small to be a bedroom, but could function as one in a pinch (although ours has no radiators, outlets, or door so it would require some pretty extensive renovations to really work as a bedroom).  My DS will also be 8, almost 9 when #3 arrives and DD will be 5.  DD and LO#3 will likely share once baby is out of our room for at least a few years (or possibly permanently if LO#3 is a girl).  It gets more tricky if LO#3 is a boy since that leaves an almost 9 year gap between the new baby and DS.

I have a friend in a similar situation as you with an oldest DD and 3 similarly aged boys after her.  She has all 3 boys in a room together and the girl in her own room.
  • @schreibaby my baby measured 15 oz and no one said a word about it being too big.
  • @schreibaby if it makes you feel any better.... I'm having twins and during my anatomy scan last week Baby A was 15oz at 20w5d and Baby B was 17oz- I cant believe I already have two pounds of baby in me! lol  After all measurements, both were measuring at the average of a gestational aged baby that would be 21w6d, and my doctor seemed unconcerned. I guess we just keep getting monitored for appropriate growth every 4 weeks.

@stashattack OMG SAME WITH ME. I cannot make up my mind. Every time I read a new blog, or a new twin registry checklist or ask a mom friend I change my Amazon registry. LOL good thing my baby shower invites aren't even close to going out yet!

    EDD/Weeks + Days: 01/23 and I'm 21W4D

Baby is the size of a(n): Starbucks trenta cup

    Team Finding Out/Blue/Pink/Green: DOUBLE PINK!!

Upcoming Appointments: October 8th for 24 week scan, October 9th for Glucose test (NOOOOOOOO)

How are you feeling? (Cravings/Symptoms): I think I just pushed it to the limit last week and this weekend with work + baby things and I'm exhausted today

Rants/Raves: Had a huge fight with my mom this weekend. Will spare the details, but essentially, she had a falling out with a friend who I call "Aunt XXX" and now she refuses to let me invite her to my babyshower. It turned into full on crying/ranting on my mom's end that I don't care about her feelings and blah blah. Was just unnecessary. In the end, I'm not inviting her, but it puts everyone in an awkward position

    Questions: Nothing at the moment

GTKY:  If you could speak an additional language, which would it be and why? I can speak a bit of it, but my whole family is Italian and I just feel like it's part of me.
  • @FyreFlyeRush and here I was hoping to grow out of the clingy needy kid phase. Looks like that might not be a thing @marebear15 that sounds like a rough morning. I don't really get cravings either. And I just haven't had much appetite at all lately @MollySm three girls on your own is a lot! @peppyj9 yay for anatomy scan tomorrow!!! @kbrown2385 Russian would be so cool to learn @cats_in_a_window we are having the same question about room sharing. I will probably be moving back to TX when baby is about 6 months and depending on what type of house the army can give us she and DS may end up sharing a room for a while. But he will only be 3ish @schreibaby yay for putting an offer in on a house! FX for you!! @stashattack right there with you on the heartburn and insomnia @amb0924 I am trying to pretend the glucose test isn't real and that I won't have to do it hahaha EDD/Weeks + Days: 1/23 21+4 Baby is the size of a(n): baby bok choy Team Finding Out/Blue/Pink/Green: pink Upcoming Appointments: today How are you feeling? (Cravings/Symptoms): tired, overwhelmed with moving, ready for a really long nap Rants/Raves: I had my appointment this morning and we were supposed to go over the anatomy scan results, but she didn't even mention them. I had to go check them online (and for anyone familiar with Tricare it shouldn't be surprising that it took over an hour to get logged in and see the results.) She did note on my paperwork that I had an anterior placenta...which makes a lot of sense now because I have been feeling all the movement really low. The provider actually had to do a quick ultrasound to pick up baby's heartbeat because she wasn't getting it on the doppler. It didn't help that I had to take DS with me and he was screaming. I was definitely trying to not panic while she was searching for the heartbeat. Rave: this was my last appointment with military healthcare and it has really made me appreciate civilian providers! Questions: anything I should know about an anterior placenta? I think it just means feeling less kicking right? And I don't have any previa according to the US so that part is ok. GTKY: If you could speak an additional language, which would it be and why? Oooo, I would love to speak German fluently. That is where my family is from so it would be cool to know
  • @schreibaby with dd, her measuring larger was an indicator for gd with me. But like everyone else said, could be just a big baby too.
  • @cats_in_a_window - I am thinking we'll do all 3 girls in a room in a few years when they get a little older, but first have them do 2&2(the boy needs to learn to share too, right?  He's already in danger of being so spoiled!).  But I feel a little bad for my oldest, who is an introvert.  Using the small bedroom would be nice for her, but for me having the big closet (which would be attached to the future laundry room) would be ideal.

  • @biolprof wishing you a scan tomorrow that will give you some comfort and answers and a plan for a path forward! FX
  • @biolprof exactly!! ugh. And fingers crossed on your scan tomorrow. I hope all goes well. Never be sorry about ranting here. That's what we are here for <3

  • @biolprof lots of luck on your scan today! I hope you get that consult with mfm and can get some clarity on the situation. Sending hugs your way.
  • @kbrown2385 - Did you want a diaper backpack? I've seen a couple of options for backpack organizers too.

@cats_in_a_window - I would say it's okay for girl/boy to share a room until one starts to hit pre-puberty. That could be 8 for some girls or closer to 10 or 11. It's when they start getting breast buds and mood swings about 2 years before their period starts.

@schreibaby - My DD1 measured 89 percentile at her anatomy scan but then she kept dropping percentiles each additional growth scan and came out at 41 weeks as a 8lb 4oz baby.

@stashattack - I keep changing my mind about baby stuff and I'm a STM 😂 You'll figure out what works for you, end up selling the stuff that doesn't and there's always Amazon Prime for those last minute things you thought you could deal without.

@MrsJessS - I had an anterior placenta with DD1 and there really wasn't anything different. I think I stuck out a little more because of that. Once she started kicking harder and stronger, I could definitely feel it everywhere.

@biolprof - Ugh, I'm sorry you're still dealing with throwing up. At least I haven't thrown up in several weeks.
I hope your scan goes well and you get some answers.
  • @marebear15 @amb0924 I'm glad I'm not the only one. I think I'm driving DH a bit batty with the changes, which in turn is driving me a bit batty too. LOL. I think I need to stop reading mommy blogs too. They just aren't helping LOL

  • @biolprof best of luck with your scan today.  I hope it brings answers, reassurance, and a plan moving forward.

I've been getting my thyroid levels checked every 6 weeks throughout this pregnancy, but that's only because I have hypothyroidism and my TSH has been running high, so they've been adjusting my levothyroxine levels after each blood draw.  Hopefully they'll be better after this draw since they were just a smidge high last time and I'm already at almost double the dose of levothyroxine than I was taking pre-pregnancy!  Once they get my levels within range, I will only need them checked again in 3rd trimester, so every 8 weeks doesn't sound unreasonable to me if you've been testing within range the whole time.
  • @catsinawindow thanks! I have hypothyroid and increased my dosage right when I found out I was pregnant by 25% but I guess I wondered if it was enough. Guess we will find out at my next draw! Hope yours stabilizes!
  • @marebear15 yeah I’m looking for a backpack. I don’t know why I didn’t think to look for an organizer too 🤦🏻‍♀️
  • @marebear15 if you could share the backpack organizer, that would be awesome!

@biolprof thinking about today. Never feel bad for ranting! We all need to get things off our chests, that's what we're here for.

Work got insane with a new hire this week. I'll come back and catch up with comments when I get a free minute.
  • @marebear15 I really like that! How have I never know about these before!
  • @marebear15 - those are adorable! I have always used a backpack for a diaper bag, but might get one of these to help sort things.

Upcoming Appointments: I saw the OB today and am super frustrated.  When I asked him if he saw the report about me having a VCI (velamentous cord insertion) he shrugged it off as no big deal.  But then he drew a picture of what it is and it doesn't match what we were told (or the picture drawn that I recreated) by MFM.  He got frustrated as well and claims what they told us is a different condition than VCI and he is going to speak them for clarification.  Everything I have read is that VCI is what was described to us by MFM....so makes me think he is the one who is mistaken.  Which is a bit concerning.  He is a well respected and very busy OB but is nearing retirement - maybe terminology has changed?  To be continued.

How are you feeling? (Cravings/Symptoms): Headaches have really kicked in this week, and I've gained 7 lbs in a week and my ankles are swelling a bit.  I am way too early for this!  Going to watch my sodium, chug water and see if I can reverse this for now.  I had terrible ankle swelling with my daughter at the end and am afraid for the same thing happening again.

Rants/Raves: Not pregnancy related, but I started a new job yesterday that is only 2 miles from my house!  Considering I have been commuting 1.5 hours RT for the past 2 years, I am soooo happy to be so close to home.

Questions:  Anyone else getting swelling already?  I feel like it's too early!

GTKY:  If you could speak an additional language, which would it be and why?  Sign Language!  I've always been fascinated and have a goal to learn one day.

  • @dalexrn sorry your appt didn’t provide more clarity. Are you seeing mfm again? As far as swelling goes, I’ve definitely been having some in my ankles. I’ve been trying to increase my water intake but haven’t seen much change with it.
  • @DalexRN sorry that your appointments today were frustrating!  Was your blood pressure ok at your appointment today?  It might make sense to keep an eye on it in between now and your next appointment as quick weight gain and swelling can be (but aren't always) an early indicator of BP issues.

When I swelled at the end of my other pregnancies, I found Epson salt baths helped.
  • @DalexRN how frustrating. Now I'm curious what he thought VCI was.... It is a big deal but can be delivered safely for sure. But of course you want someone familiar with it to take care of it so it's a bit conerning. Let's hope he just had an off day!

For the record I definitely don't have a VCI. There was beautiful cord insertion in the center of the placenta with no unprotected vessels so that's good for me I guess. But I empathize with you and what you are going through. I feel like I have such bad whiplash! Thinking of you!
  • @biolprof that’s great news! Does that mean no VP either? Everything checked out well?
  • @kbrown2385 I see MFM again at 28 weeks. My OB is supposed to call me back this week with clarification after he speaks with them

@catsinawindow my BP is actually low LOL. Yesterday it was 101/56 so no worries there. I probably just ate a lot of sodium.
