@hanshotfirst77 thanks. Nurse said it was fine. And I got extra good news this morning. They saw 12 follicles on the ultrasound!!! There were happy tears this time. That's a long way from the 1 they said I had a few weeks ago, and that it was unlikely there were more than 1-2 more hiding. So I'm over the moon right now. Now just hoping for good eggs and embryos!
@31magnolia Thanks yes it was fast. Took about a week. My doctor has the sex info but I’ve decided to just have them put the best graded one first and not know the sex ahead of time. One embryo is graded much higher than the other. But I will try them both one at a time and hopefully get a healthy PG out of it. *TW* I’ve had 2 miscarriages so far this year from IUIs. And so far there has been no reason for the losses. The last was actually genetically normal. So IVF with PGS was what my RE recommended as my best chance. So here’s hoping it works!
@hanshotfirst77 that’s a great idea to not know the sex. As you said the most important thing is to have a healthy pregnancy. Also, with IVF they can get your body in it’s most optimal state before the transfer. In hoping that’s the case for me as well. I’m sending lots of good thoughts and prayers!
AFM, I’m on my 3rd day of stims. I have my first monitor appointment tomorrow morning.
What kind of restrictions and antibiotics were you given? No swimming/bathing, sex, etc for how long? and what point did you start taking the antibiotics and for how long? I’m realizing that each clinic is so different.
I was out on doxycycline starting the night of the egg retrieval and for 5 more days after. None during actual stims though. The only restriction I was told about was no exercising. I tried to stay pretty low key through out stims too, so I didn't over exert myself or anything. I was worried about OHSS but turns out I didn't respond the way we thought I would to the meds so it wasn't really an issue anyway.
@hanshotfirst77 Thanks! I was worried after my appointment. My SO said he saw the tech type in 19. I thought I had a follicle growing way too fast! But turns out he either has bad eyesight or she was typing something else! Anyway, nothing over 10mm just yet. I did gain a follicle, so now I have a total of 13, 12 on the right and 1 on the left. The range is 7-8mm, so at least they are all pretty even. They are keeping my protocol the same for now. And my next appointment is Saturday at 7:30. Bummed I'll have to go to that by myself. It's an hour away, but my SO has commitment. The nurse said at the second appointment they like to see follicles reaching 10mm.
As for restrictions, I'm starting to realize my clinic is very strict. No bending or twisting (normal), don't get heart rate of 140 bpm during stims, no bathing/swimming/spa from stims to pregnancy test, no sex until after transfer. And 7 days of antibiotics but no clear instructions as to when to take them. I'm just going to do it starting the night before the egg retrieval as that makes the most sense to me and is consistent to what I've seen on boards. My SO also had antibiotics but she was clear that they wanted his to start right away (before collection).
@hanshotfirst77 How did your appointment go? what's the next step?
AFM: I had my 2nd monitoring appointment. Finally got some follies over 10mm, so the nurse was happy about that. They are keeping the follistim and menopur dosage the same but want me to start ganirelex/cetrocide tomorrow evening. Next appt isn't until Tuesday. So far the three that are over 10 are all around the same size, so no lead follicle, which is good.
@31magnolia My protocol is to start with Estrace 3x a day and low dose aspirin and then I'll have bloodwork and lining checks and eventually add in PIO shots and Progesterone supplements. It's much less involved then stims. So far my tentative transfer date is 10/4 but my nurse said it can change depending on how long it takes my lining to thicken.
I didn't have an enema for my retrieval, is that part of your protocol?
@hanshotfirst77 So your doctor is doing estrace instead of BCP? Did she say why? What does the aspirin do? I'm really reluctant to get on BCP. Yes. The enema is apart of my protocol. But I've never seen anyone else mention it, so wasn't sure if it was just my clinic. Sounds like it is! I had my followup appointment today. So there are a lot of follicles NOT progressing. Right now, I only have 6 over 10mm (17.3, 17.2, 16, 12.10, 11.8, 11.5). The clinic is going to push me out to Thursday to see if the ones less than 16 will catch up, but I just don't see how that's possible. These are also all on my right ovary. The left one isn't really doing anything. Trying to remain hopeful but kind of disappointed. Doctor increased my menopur for tonight and tomorrow for a final push and then I go back on Thursday. The nurse is thinking I will trigger Thursday night.
@31magnolia I was on bcp ever since I got AF after the retrieval so we could pause my cycle so I could do my saline sonogram and jump right into the transfer cycle. My RE does it this way for me since I have PCOS and super irregular cycles. If we had to wait for AF every time it would be forever. After the saline sono I stopped the bcp and started the estrace. I think it is to prepare my lining for transfer. I’m not sure what the aspirin does. This is the first time I’m taking it. But it was on my protocol and if it will help this one stick I am all for it.
Im sorry your follies aren’t what you thought. It’s hard not to get discouraged when the numbers drop. I remember being so crushed every time the number went down. But try to be positive. It really only takes 1 good one. Fx your follies keep growing!
-delurking- @31magnolia I was also disappointed/upset over how many follicles were growing/size during my cycle. We got 9 mature eggs in the end, which surprised my RE who was expecting 5 or 6 based on the follicles. Of those, however, only 5 fertilized and only 2 of those made it to blast on day 6. We didn't do PGS testing and just transferred both and I was pretty sure we were out of the game based on how everything had been going. I am the poster child for 'it just takes 1' because our cycle was completely disappointing and our embies weren't even day 5's -- slow growing day 6's.
But both -did- implant and we had two heartbeats at the first scan. One of the twins stopped developing by week 8 (showed signs of abnormality so likely not healthy or normal) but the other is now a bouncing 17 month old girl. We were incredibly lucky, yes, but it IS possible!
So don't get down on yourself, just keep pushing through

@mbradfo2 interestingly I am now in your position. ER only retrieved one mature egg. I was told today that the egg did fertilize. I am now thinking of skipping PGS testing and going with a fresh transfer. In your post above did you do a fresh transfer on day 6? My doctor said she is ok with doing a fresh transfer but then called me back and said that for blast that happen on day 6 the recommend freezing the embryo and transferring it the next cycle, when my body is back at day five. I still have 4 more days to see if this one makes it but I’m trying to get my ducks in a row ahead of time.
No, it was a frozen transfer. We just went right to freeze with the embryos on day 6 and then transferred them a month later. If they had been day 5, they would have been frozen on day 5. My RE said he has been finding more success with frozen transfers rather than fresh. This may be because only hardy embryos survive freeze/thaw or some other associated factor. Frozen v fresh is still being disputed in the literature so it's not clear which is better based on research, but my RE's anecdotal experience is that frozen transfers are more successful.
