My kidney issues have contributed but I also pee a little trickle sometimes even though I feel like it should be coming full force.
Here’s my pee question, Has anyone else leaked pee after being on the toilet? Regardless of strength I feel like I’m leaking after I get up and walk away. It’s gross and annoying.
@McKBaby This terrifies me. I didn’t have this issue with my last pregnancy and I’m not one of the moms who pees when she sneezes or jumps on a trampoline. I truly hope I don’t become that after delivery.
@k_mama91 even if that happens it can be reversed through physical therapy. I've continued to do lots and lots of squats and lunges, but NO jumping and limited running and I believe that's helped me significantly.
I have my follow-up appointment Thursday, but there has definitely been improvement because I don't leak when coughing anymore and even with dry-heaving this morning it was very minimal. There's lots of little things even beyond Kegels that can help, and also be preventative before birth.
For example both my physiotherapist and my midwife also strongly suggested being more careful about how I get out of bed. Apparently sitting up (like a sit-up movement) can be problematic for pelvic floor muscles, and that it's far better to roll to the side and get up from there. Not holding your breath while straining if you're constipated is another one.
@Mckbaby my issues were much worse with my csection than my vbac. I had scar tissue around my bladder and had little to no sensation to urinate for months. I think pregnancy in general is a bigger culprit though.
add that I have literally no core strength from the csection, multiple pregnancies and ehlers danlos.
Now I have anxiety over my weak pelvic floor. I want the leaking to be temporary and not a permanent after birth thing. I’ll be bringing it up at my appointment Thursday.
@mrszoobear My hips are killing me and tonight dh asked why I was walking funny. Apparently I’m waddling too.
@mrszoobear I waddle a little, but I especially do if I am trying to walk fast.
@k_mama91 when you pee, and you are done peeing, sit for a second then shift forward and see if you can pee a bit more. That may help with the leaking.
@mrszoobear my growing pains are typically front of my belly and sometimes are horrible. But they go away after like an hour. All i know is I must have an NFL kicker on my hands because Jesus this kid likes to nail me.
@mrszoobear my pains are mostly when I lay on my side and don’t support my stomach. My skin feels like it’s ripping. I have a wedge pillow to put under my belly from my last pregnancy and it helps a lot.
Does anyone else drive/ride in the car a lot? I work weekends 3 hours away, which results in 12 hours of riding/driving in two days. We were staying there (so was only 6 hours of driving in two days), but our pet sitter had to quit so we are having to travel more now. I am going to talk to my doctor about it at my next appointment, but didn't know if anyone knows of any concerns dealing with this much car time. I feel so sore/stiff after a weekend of riding and work, that part is tough!
@kbee08 I don't think it's a concern right now, but I remember from last time that around maybe 34 weeks my midwife didn't like me driving 1h each way to work, or really sitting in any position where I was at all leaning back for more than about 20-30 minutes at a time (so even on the couch, I was supposed to sit on kitchen chairs or an exercise ball). It had something to do with the sitting position encouraging baby to move to the proper birthing orientation if I recall correctly. Like, sitting upright encourages them to move head down but sitting too long in the position that you're in on the couch or driving encourages them to move into other positions to make themselves more comfortable.
@k_mama91 my hips have been really hurting and I have been doing this exercise for a few days and I think it's helping. It makes sense to that muscles that are usually tight and keeping things in place have relaxed and are now causing pain - I've had similar problems with my hips/back/shoulders before.
(I am not a doctor/physiotherapist and you should talk to your care provider before starting any new exercise.)
Not a question but a few learnings from my recent trip/relevant to some convos we’ve been having about air travel:
1) you (and your SO) can board early during the “passengers requiring extra time/assistance” portion of boarding if you are visibly pregnant, no questions asked 👍
2) they will NOT let you sit in an exit row if you are visibly pregnant (makes sense, but honestly I never even thought about it) 👎. However if you’re lucky a sympathetic flight attendant will find you a new seat in an equally spacious row (thanks Alaska!).
@midgerose86 southwest is great, I’m current midflight. If you go ask for preboard technically they’re not allowed to ask why (HIPAA) and I must say the flight attendants have totally let me break the no standing rule and encouraged me to take a few laps up and down the aisle. But yes, same to the no exit row rule.
I am wondering if we should take an in person baby care class or just use YouTube/ online resources. The baby care 101 class at the hospital is 1 evening after work for $50.
@bookworm492 I'm not sure if any of the locations are convenient for you (South Loop, Mag Mile, Bucktown) but the pediatrician I'm planning on using offers free prenatal classes. You don't even have to be a prospective patient; they are free to the public. I have taken Newborn Care, Infant Safety/CPR, and Breastfeeding, and I'm also planning to take their Sleep class. I have found all to be worthwhile. Weissbluth Pediatrics is the name of the practice.
Has anyone here ever done tandem breastfeeding with a toddler and a newborn? My son is still nursing once a day at bedtime and I'm not exactly planning to tandem nurse, but I'm also not planning on weaning. I'm just going to see how it goes, whether he weans himself sometime in the next few months or if I really start feeling like I can't handle it.
My understanding is that my body will switch to making colostrum sometime in the 3rd trimester (which might cause him to want to wean anyway) and then a few days after baby is born my milk will "come in" again. Just wondering if anyone has any experience or wisdom to share about it.
Trying to prepare a list of things for hospital and one thing I'm having trouble with is finding clear electrolyte drinks to pack. With my son it was a long (24+ hours) labor and I was puking most of it and the only thing they let me have was ice chips which make me puke even not in labor/pregnant. Plus I was so weak by the end they had to use a vacuum to help me get him out. I want clear drinks so if I am puking they don't know I've snuck them in but I know I need more than ice chips.
@Peachie89 Pedialyte makes a clear unflavoured option and I believe a clear/white coconut flavour. I'm not sure exactly where you might be able to find them, but I know they definitely exist!
@peachie89 try cvs. I’ve gotten either the pedialite or cvs band in clear for my son. Also smart water has electrolytes, it’s my favorite water and I swear it keeps me better hydrated then normal bottled water.
@peachie89 try the baby section at the pharmacy, Target, or Walmart. Pedialyte or most store brands have a clear version. We've used it a lot (DS doesn't like juice and DH works construction and hates the flavor of Pedialyte).
@Peachie89 Either Gatorade or Powerade makes a white/clear flavor. I was in the same boat last with the puking and only being allowed ice chips. I hadn’t even thought of packing something like this.
@cnd29 I think it was you who posted a question about driving after your 3 hour glucose test. I took mine today and to be honest I felt pretty sick by the end. However, I started fasting after my dinner last night (6:30) and didn't finish the test until noon, so I'm sure that was the main reason. I got pretty nauseated after drinking the sweet drink on a completely empty stomach and I felt shaky, flushed, and slightly disoriented by the end. That said, after I ate a meal I felt fine. So to answer your question, you might not be feeling well enough to drive until you get a good meal or at least a large snack.
To add to that, I got really sick with my 1 hour test with my first pregnancy. I have all pregnancy morning sickness though. I made sure and ask, and my obgyn said I could take a zofran before.
Ok. I haven't told my book club friends I'm pregnant yet (I know, I know.....I never did a social media announcement either and a lot of people I know don't know still) a big part of this is I like having spaces where I'm not "the pregnant person " and none of my book club friends have kids and I am afraid I'll be ostracized going forward.
Anyways. One of the friends is having a big 40th birthday blow out in just under 2 weeks. Do I tell them via group chat beforehand? Or do I dress to hide it (which I can do pretty easily with swing dresses and flowy cardigans). I an afraid it'll look like I'm trying to steal the spotlight from her leading up to her birthday. This party is a huge deal for her.
I know I probably should have told people beforehand but honestly I hate telling people about it. Anything that involves me as center of attention makes me very uncomfortable.
@bookworm492 if you honestly don’t think anyone will notice you’re pregnant, and you don’t feel like sharing yet, I think you’re smart to hold off on the info. Once they know, the first time everyone sees you IRL they WILL give you attention and want to congratulate you, so if the birthday girl is sensitive she might be bummed. But maybe plan to announce it at your next in-person club session? It sucks if you don’t like attention, but once the initial waves on attention are over, I guarantee they’ll move on quickly...and you won’t have to deal with it anymore!
I have a question! So I failed my 1 hour glucose test by 6 points. I didn’t fast and I took the test late in the afternoon at 3pm. Should I ask if I can retake the 1 hour test early in the morning and just fast after midnight until then (which they told me to do for the 3 hour) and try again or just do the three hour? The only thing is I wouldn’t want to pay for an extra test if I fail it I’ll still have to take the three hour, but I really want to avoid the three hour because the one hour made me feel bad and messed with my digestion for like 32 hours after!
@lemonpopppy see if your doctor will allow you to do two weeks of blood sugar checks in place of the glucose test. Some docs will. It involves sticking yourself (probably 4 times a day) to do the test but you should be eating and drinking normally. Kinda annoying but might be an alternative worth trying.
@Stac928 oh that’s interesting! Would they provide a device or do you buy one yourself? And I would just record the number and time each day? Thank you!
@lemonpoppy usually they want a fasting blood sugar every morning and a blood sugar reading after each meal (some docs do one hour some do two hours after the meal). My doc prescribed the device and insurance mostly covered it, though for just two weeks you may just have to purchase it yourself. It is available OTC, at least at my Walgreen's it is. Sometimes I run out of supplies (testing strips and lancets) and just buy OTC rather than wait for a script to be called in. I don't know the exact cost but if you call the pharmacy I'm sure they could tell you the cost for a glucometer, testing strips, and testing lancets.
Not all doctors will allow this to substitute the glucose test, but some will.

I feel like I'm constantly in some sort of pain or soar in or around my giant tummy. Also, is anyone else already starting to waddle a little?
