@Malidocious I was SO happy to read your US update! Yay, yay, yay! I can't give advice re: antidepressants, but I would just encourage you to talk to BOTH doctors about it and your loved ones (and on here!). I think once depression creeps into our pre and perinatal minds it can spiral out of control. Hormones and stress are NO JOKE. Do you listen to The Birth Hour? There are some great episodes on there where women discuss their experiences with depression prior to, during, and after pregnancy. Many made the decision that the "risk" (minimal to nothing) of taking antidepressants outweighed the risk of not taking it! Oh and ***TW*** I am dealind with some patches of having to say, "Oh no, we lost that baby, this is a new one." UGHHHHH.
@Malidocious girl, take that Zoloft! I've been on it for most of my adult life, and continued a lower dose (50mg) through my last pregnancy (wonderful, healthy baby boy), and am doing the same with this pregnancy. Both my OB and my maternal fetal specialist support me being on zoloft as we all feel that the benefits far outweigh any supposed risks. I tried going off of it entirely for my last pregnancy - BAD idea. My anxiety, depression, and overall well-being is SO much better when I'm taking it - which can only be better for the baby. My thoughts are that any extreme negative emotions/stress are far more detrimental to our babies than a scientifically-safe medication.
Thanks for all the love ladies. It turned into a kidney infection really quickly but I’ve been on antibiotics for two days now so hopefully it’ll go away soon. I’ll probably ask my OB for blood work and maybe a scan just to check on the babe when we are home. I still don’t feel great but I’m making the most of the trip anyways.
@stassischroeder I kind of love that you were stalking me, awaiting my response, but yes, I usually post in the freakishly early hours of the morning... then I'm sparse on the weekends.
@Malidocious Tough question about the zoloft... my husband is on it, and I was on anti-depressants years ago. If you're more comfortable with going without, then I think you should just be hyper aware and focused on how you're feeling, in case you need to pick it up. Pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum brings so many hormone crashes and emotional swings, so I would just be ready to ask for help/meds if you're having a hard time. I second @EmilyLove25 's Birth Hour podcast rec. I'm obsessed and have learned so much through other women's experiences.
Appointment went well yesterday! I was pleasantly surprised that my OB did a quick ultrasound - I think because I’m right on the cusp of being able to get a good Doppler reading on the heartbeat and she didn’t want to freak me out. Heartbeat in the 160s, and everything looking great!
little gummybear was wiggling around and showing us his/her face (according to my OB, I couldn’t see it lol), arms, and legs 💜
