    Hello ladies,

Happy Monday! I had my IUI yesterday and check this morning to confirm ovulation. Confirmed 4 follicles ruptured. 1.9,1.7, 1.6 and 1.6. Anyone know how these numbers convert to millimeters? I find it confusing that most studies reference millimeters and not these units of measure. I think roughly 2.0 must correlated to 10mm since most studies say that 10mm is a mature size for ovulation? And my clinic said 2.0 is a good size.

Anyway, I'm a little freaked since 4 are actually a decent size and my estrogen levels pre-ovulation were high which I believe indicates that at least 1+ follicles  were a good quality. DH's numbers were really good again too.... thankfully we have a doctor's follow-up appointment scheduled for tomorrow morning so we can talk about the risks of multiples and possibly higher order multiples with her directly rather than making myself crazy wondering and researching myself.

Twins I can get myself on board with, anything more and I would truly be freaking out Haha.

QOTW: In Canada we don't drink Bloody Mary's (which are gross) we drink Caesars! And I live for them in summer time. I make mine with Clamato Juice (doctored up tomato juice), lots of lemon juice, extra spice (tobasco sauce), a splash of Worchestershire sauce, and pickle juice. Yum!! Obviously these days without the vodka, still just as tasty!

@nancinator hope you had lots ready to freeze today!

@2dogsmom hope your appointment Friday went well and you're closer to IUI day!

@hithertorue my hubby and I were just talking about multiples last night ... definitely a bit scary to think about. I hope your Dr has some good answers for your to help alleviate that stress. It sounds like your IUI went well! FX that the TWW goes quickly and results in a positive.

I’ve been a little confused by the follicle number myself so if you figure it out please share! I have a second follicle check today so I’ll try to remember to ask!

@nancinator thinking about you today and hoping it goes well!! You had a lot that fertilized so hopefully lots can be frozen!

AFM: Follicle check Friday was mixed, but we decided to do another check today and if they have grown appropriately we will trigger tonight (freaking out about the idea of having to do a shot at home still.... hardest part of all of this for sure, I hate needles) and then do IUI at 6:45am on Wednesday. Actually @sincethelastday could you update my Rx for check in?

Question for people who have done IUI — I had plans for Wednesday (shopping, lunch with a friend), should I cancel them or will I be fine to go about my day as normal? I was thinking I would be fine but now starting to second guess.

@sincethelastday been thinking about you a lot the last few days and praying everything is going smoothly!!

QOTW: I don’t really have one specific, but I love strawberries and watermelon which are only good this time of year so I generally make lots of recipes with them such as strawberry, spinach, quinoa salad or watermelon, mint, macadamia nut, feta salad.

Just a quick little reply for you @2dogsmom, hopefully this helps..

I was terrified of the self-injections but I find them easier than blood draws. The needle is thinner and I barely feel a thing. I think many people line it up then look away. Just make sure your thumb is on the button to press before you do the hard part, jiggling around to reposition your hand after you've stuck it in sucks. I've done it twice now.

And day of the IUI I didn't notice anything at all last cycle when I only had 1 follicle. My first cycle with 3 and this cycle with 4 I did notice cramping in the afternoon when I assume I was actually ovulating. It wouldn't have kept me from most things even yesterday when I had pretty heavy cramping. But DH and I did cancel golf last night as i deemed that a bit too much. You should be totally fine shopping and regular stuff!

@2dogsmom - just wanted to chime in and agree with @hithertorue. You should be able to go out and do regular activities. I was lucky and didn’t have any cramping after my IUIs. Hoping it all goes smoothly for you and that your plans after with a friend is a nice distraction and start to the TWW! Thank you also for the prayers and well wishes - they are much appreciated!  Will be thinking of you and really hoping you get a positive!

(oh, and your RX should say IUI now) :)

@hithertorue - glad to hear your IUI went well and that you got so many nice follicles!! I’m with you on worrying about multiples though. I’d be okay with twins, but more than that!  :# That’s nice that your clinic was able to squeeze you in for an appointment to discuss it more in-depth. Also really hoping and praying for you that IUI#3 is the lucky one!!

@sincethelastday congratulations! So excited and happy for you. I hope things are going well so far and can't wait to hear updates.

@cigaline so nice to hear from you! Hopefully you'll get some answers about your two embryos soon and find out if there will be one or two going forward....I'm sure that is hard, so I'm praying for you.

@optimism3 hope all is well with you!!

@2dogsmom good luck with your IUI! FX for you. I haven't done IUI yet so I'm not much help but I hope it go smoothly and your stress is low!

@hithertorue I don't quite understand the folli size measurements either....my doctor just always tells me the size of them in millimeters, and said that 18 to 24 mm is ideal. 🤷 And I can understand your worry about multiples! Here's to hoping that just one or two stick ;)

AFM: I've been in California for a work trip so I've been a little away from IF things. DH couldn't get the time off of work to come with me, so one of my girl friends came with me for the first few days and we had a great time at Disneyland. We walked about 13 miles over the two days we were there, which is a ton for me since I have a desk job and don't regularly walk/run as exercise. Of course it's Disney and there are so many kids and babies and families and cute baby gifts and clothes, so while I tried to avoid IF it was pretty hard. It didn't help that my clinic thinks this cycle isn't going to work....they think I'll ovulate while I'm here without DH. Cycle day one was June 27 and started letrozole/Clomid on June 29....they wanted to do a follicle ultrasound today but I won't be back til Thursday, so they think I'll ovulate before then, but the last few times we've done TI it's taken two rounds of femara/Clomid and a trigger shot to ovulate so idk, I'm hoping there is still a chance it'll work this cycle.

QOTW: fruit! Just lots of fruit. My favorite is probably fresh peaches....I grew up in the south and we always had a great selection of peaches when they were in season, but now I live in the west and peaches bought at the stores here are terrible, so I have to find them at farmers markets if I want a good one.

@sincethelastday and @hithertorue thanks!! I’m going to keep my plans, sounds like I should be fine.  My check went well today - one follicle at 20mm so everything is set for trigger tonight and IUI Wednesday. I really appreciate you being here and answering my questions!! Sorry to hear about timing issue @knockupthestock but FX that you get home in time to make this month work. I’ve had a few months where we couldn’t get the timing to work so I know the feeling, but hope you are enjoying SoCal! Tons of great stuff to do in that area! Enjoy your trip!

@cigaline great to hear from you! time flies and once you are out of the first trimester and can comfortably tell people you're pregnant, you'll be in better spirits.

@hithertorue i know several people with twins and it's a LOT to begin with as infants/babies/toddlers but once they're older, they say it's easier since they always have someone to play (or fight) with haha!

@2dogsmom just pinch that skin firmly and stick it in! the needle is so thin, you probably won't even feel much xo and definitely keep your plans. an IUI shouldn't affect any normal life activities.

@knockupthestock hope there is a chance this cycle works out for you timing wise. it sucks when you miss a month due to scheduling...

my update - the nurse called me today. my heart was pounding and she told me I have 15 embryos that made it to freeze :open_mouth: hoping for a FET end of this month. so excited and nervous at the same time!
  • Options
@2dogsmom hope the trigger went ok and best of luck tomorrow morning!! Thinking of you!!

@knockupthestock Also crossing fingers your timing works out. I think we all have felt that frustration and anxiety when we think of potentially having a missed opportunity when it comes to IF. It's like "as if things aren't bad enough at times, now this!" Hope you can still enjoy your time away though.

@nancinator so great!! Excited for you big  time. Hope you don't mind my asking, and feel free to not answer.... Did you elect to do the embryo testing for chromosomal defects?

We were at a follow up visit with the doctor today to go over our test results and cycles from the last couple IUI's and this past one and to talk next steps if this one is negative. So we decided we will try at least one more IUI as she wants to cut the letrozole in half to see if we can improve my estrogen levels. Apparently they have been low through each of the cycles, even this past one when the nurse and I thought it seemed quite high. Apparently estrogen is a good thing pre-ovulation! Who knew! So many things to learn during all this!

DH counts and motility were much improved since starting IUI and the only thing she would like to see him do is a DNA fragmentation analysis. Which is a new practice for their clinic since we started with them. He will do that if we confirm we have a negative this cycle as it's about $180 out of pocket.

I asked about supplementing DHEA for egg quality and will start that if we head into a 4th cycle. She said she has had some success with it and would help for IVF if we have to go that route.

She joked, that is if you don't end up with quads this cycle!   :# I said, but what are the chances really... her response was totally non-committal... I've seen crazier things!

Omg reaffirmed my higher order multiples fear!!

So the new prayer this cycle is: please more than zero, but please please please less than 3! (Or 4!!)  :po:)

Hello ladies! I'm sorry I disappeared for a couple of weeks. I was out of town for awhile and for some reason, couldn't see the forum on my phone (anyone else experience this?).

@hithertorue I'm glad the most recent IUI went well. I worry about multiples too, and quadruplets would really be a handful! I hope just one of the follicles released a lucky egg. My understanding of the units of measurement are either mm or cm. So 18 mm = 1.8 cm. There are 10 mm in 1 cm, or 20 in 2 cm. It would be a lot easier if they just stuck to one or the other though! It sounds good that you and your doctor have a plan going forward; I always find that reassuring.

@2dogsmom I hope the IUI went smoothly yesterday and the trigger shot beforehand wasn't too painful. I usually have a lot of cramping after the IUI, but I have constant pelvic pain so I'm probably not the best example. Hope you have fun shopping with friends afterwards! Fx for you :)

@nancinator wow, 15! That's fantastic news. I'm really happy to hear that. When will the transfer happen? Fx it only takes one!

@knockupthestock I'm sorry the work trip messed up the timing for this cycle, although I hope you do just ovulate late and maybe won't have to cancel after all. I've had a few days where doing something fun turned out to have a lot of little kid triggers - like a walk on the boardwalk by the beach. It's still a nice day, but tinged with that bit of sadness.

    @savethelastday
congratulations! such wonderful news and gives me an extra injection of optimism for all of us. Looking forward to updates on how you're feeling :)

AFM I've increased my letrozole to 7.5 mg this cycle. I had to start on day 4 but the nurse said it's fine to do any day between 3-5. My test to check the follicles is next Tuesday. This is our last IUI cycle.

So far I'm glad my side-effects have been minimal, just a few hot flashes. The only exception is that my period went away and then came back with a vengence last night (day 7) which seemed a bit odd. Not sure if it's the letrozole? Cleaning stains in the middle of the night was delightful ;)

I love strawberry shortcake with fresh berries, or a berry/peach crumble in the summer. For drinks, just a chilled glass of nice white wine goes down pretty well on a hot day.

@2dogsmom how did the IUI go? I hope things went smoothly and you are feeling okay with everything!

@nancinator yay 15!!! that is so amazing. excited for what this month holds for you!

@hithertorue sounds like things are moving right along for y'all! I agree with you, there is so much to learn! I feel like each cycle there is something new I learn. And I'm just always blown away by how much has to happen for a baby to be born! It truly is a miracle, haha. You mentioned earlier this week that they did a check to see if you ovulated around the time of your IUI....was this just an US? How did they know that you ovulated and how big they were? My RE hasn't done any to confirm ovulation....they've just done one to know when to trigger, then I trigger and have a TWW before they do anything else. Just curious!

@sara_tory I haven't had that problem with the forum on my phone, though it does take a long time to download sometimes. Hopefully the side effects stay minimal for you! I do the 7.5mg of letrozole as well along with Clomid and those side effects can suck, so hang in there! Hopefully AF didn't stay for a long visit, that just sounds awful.

AFM: I got back into town from my trip last night so we had a follicle US first thing this morning. There were a bunch of little follicles on the right side but one folli that's around 15mm on the left, so we are hoping that one keeps growing! The left side has been the one that has typically produced the bigger follicles, so we joke that the left side is the strong side, haha. We go back on Sunday for a folli check to see if its time to trigger. I'm SO glad that even though its cycle day 15 and they thought I missed it that we didn't....she just said to be sure to BD every day in case I do ovulate earlier, which DH and I are okay with since I was gone for a week, haha.

It makes me wonder though....the first two cycles of TI, we did five days of letrozole/clomid (cycle days 4-8) then an US and then another five days of letrozole/clomid (cycle days 12-16), then US and trigger (around cycle day 18-20). This time, we just did five days of letrozole/clomid (cycle days 4-8) and an US on cycle day 15, and the follicle growth was about the same as the other times....so maybe the second five days of meds isn't necessarily what is helping, maybe its just the time/cycle day?

Hi everyone! I introed a few days ago, hopefully it’s ok for me to jump in here. To answer the questions- we’ve been TTC since November 2017, dx unexplained. We’re going back to the RE next week so I’ll update my treatment plan, but I think it’s going to be letrozole + trigger + TI.

@hithertorue I’m glad to hear the IUI went well! I’d definitely be nervous about multiples too- twins are awesome, anything higher than that sounds scary!

@2dogsmom I hope your IUI went well!

@knockupthestock 13 miles! Wow! I understand the issues with Disney- I was just in Disney world a couple weeks ago, and all I could think about was how I wanted to bring my non existent kids. It seemed like there were adorable families everywhere I looked. So glad to hear you didn’t O while in California!

    @nancinator so many! Congrats!

@sara_tory I hope the increased meds do the trick! I’m new here so I’m sorry for asking, but what’s next if this IUI cycle doesn’t work? Hopefully it does and you continue to have minimal side effects with the letrozole!

AFM- I don’t have much to report. I’m 6 days into the TWW and have an appointment next Wednesday with the RE. I met with her for an initial consult a few months ago but she benched us because DH went to Cuba and there’s apparently Zika risk. I’m not really sure what to expect this appointment, but I assume we’ll discuss the actual treatment plan (she gave 2 options last time, letrozole + TI + trigger, or all of that + IUI). I’m excited- first of all, because I finally feel like we’re making forward movement, but also because DH (who doesn’t always seem very interested) is coming to the appt as well.

I love the fruit pizza type desserts in the summer, and while I was just in Florida with my MIL and SIL, we discovered fresh pineapple juice and vodka! So delicious!

    Hi all!
Thanks for the positive thoughts about my IUI... unfortunately for me it didn’t go too smoothly and I ended up with a good bit of bleeding (this is a potential side effect but not super common I guess) and was in a decent amount of pain all day. Luckily RE says that shouldn’t impact my chances of conception. So FX... we have a three week wait because as timing has it we will be on vacation at the two week mark when we would normally beta test and we can’t do it early apparently so have to wait till we get home. Trigger will cause a false positive so just have to wait and wonder.

@nancinator 15 sounds fantastic!! Do you have a FET scheduled? Such great news!

@hithertorue OMG multiples! Even twins is probably more than I want. I want one healthy baby (at a time). But still good that you have a good chance this cycle and sounds like a good plan for next cycle too. I will add “but not multiple” to my prayer for you LOL!  I will be adding estrogen next cycle as well.

@sara_tory hope the time you were out of town was pleasant!! FX that the last IUI cycle is exactly what you need for the bfp!

@knockupthestock yay so glad you were able to enjoy your trip and still make it back in time! Do you do OPK testing?

@b_1029 welcome! I hope your appointment goes well!! I totally get the delay with Zika — my hubby and I have been planning vacations that purposely avoids Zika and had to pass up on a family trip to Belize. It sucks, it’s one more thing that IF messes with! But definitely better to be careful, it would be devastating to get the bfp only to have major issues due to Zika. I hope you can get on a good treatment plan!

@2dogsmom oh man, i am so sorry about your negative IUI experience! i hope you're feeling better now. lucky you with the 3 week wait, haha. but a vacation will be fun! i hope you're going somewhere nice :) i traditionally havent done OPK testing because i dont ovulate on my own - i've had to use a trigger shot to make me ovulate. i guess i could start OPK testing this time. does the trigger or meds affect the OPK results?

@b_1029 welcome!! i'm excited to hear how your appt goes next week. im glad youre feeling good about things, and i know that feeling of finally making forward movement is so nice! im glad YH is going to the appointment with you. it'll definitely help him be more invested in the process! my DH has come to all of my appointments so far and it really helps me a lot.

@knockupthestock that makes sense re not bothering with the OPK. I still do them (at the advice of my dr) every cycle to make sure I don’t randomly O before we trigger. Since you mentioned doing the BD just in case I was thinking it might help alleviate that stress. I know I like having as much info as possible and knowing I’m not ovulating can sometime help relieve stress when we have a plan. Your meds won’t impact the result but trigger will so you would only want to test until your trigger day. It’s funny, when we first really stared trying with meds we were still just trying for TI (no trigger) so I would wait and wait and hope for that positive OPK, now with trigger and IUIs I pray I don’t get a positive LOL.

Hey ladies! Just checking in after vacay.

@2dogsmom sorry to hear about the bleeding! Did they have issues with inserting the catheter?

    @b_1029 hey TTGP friend 🙂

AFM, just chugging along this week during vacation. I'll have an update on Monday after my saline sono. The 1st one was abnormal so hopefully everything looks good this time so I don't need to have surgery before my FET! 😬 Not looking forward to having to do it if it comes to that.

QOTW: Any favorite summer time recipe/drink/dessert?
I do love me some ice pops or an ice cream cookie sandwich!

inthewoods23 Good to hear from you, sorry your 1st sono was abnormal but FX you get good news on Tomorrow!
Yes, they had an extremely hard time getting the catheter in for me, past the second part of the cervix, to the point they almost gave up and Just left “the deposit” as they kept calling it in my cervix.

@2dogsmom with my first IUI they had to use a tool to straighten my cervix. They got it in easy after that. My 2nd IUI they then decided to also use US to see how my cervix goes to help guide it in. My 3rd one, the RE did it instead of the RNs and I didn't even know she had completed it 😆 she's very good at remembering how my cervix is.

If you happen to need to do more IUIs I would recommend asking if they have anything that can help get the catheter through the cervix or use US for guidance.
