I just got my results back, negative for chromosomal abnormalities and we are having a girl!!! I literally teared up and called DH because I was so excited.
Haven't gotten my results back, should be getting them back next week but I'm so anxious. I have a cousin with downs and I'm scared of the possibility of having a special needs child. But also, they'll be testing for the gender too and my mom will be the one to be told and she will refuse to tell me even if i change my mind about not wanting to know the gender.
@mecoats yes, I have been thinking of you as well. Hope you are doing well.
I still haven’t gotten a call from my genetic specialist (13w2d), and at this point I think we are just going to pass. I’m feeling comfortable without completing the tests after being able to think on it for a few weeks. My doc also acted as if we did not need to do them unless we absolutely wanted to.
@anniemarie887@ktmaesim no call yet, it’s been a week. I meet with genetic counselor next week. I assume no call between now and then would mean ok results this round. Then we move to the next testing, which i have no idea what it would be - maybe an amniocentesis?
But I don’t know what we will end up doing.
Thanks for checking in! It’s been a loooonnnngggg week.
Just had my labs drawn for MaterniT 21 PLUS. How long did it take for you to get those results back? We are visiting my family next week and would love to announce to them the sex!
Just got our (hopefully) FINAL carrier screenings done through Myriad...and my partner and I don't have any overlapping carrier statuses! Phew.
Question for the group: My hospital *also* has you do a second trimester screening (aka the "quad"), and I'm wondering why we need to do this...we've already had the cell-free test and the NT test. What will they be looking for at this point?
@midgerose86 the only thing my hospital has me screen in 2nd tri is for Spina bifida, it's a blood test done after 16 weeks. Maybe that is what they are referring to?
@midgerose86 from what I understand that does screen for your HCG levels like the NT lab work. But gets serum levels that screen for spina bifida like @Spartanrd4 said
@rlbost25 My doc technically received the results 8 days after testing, but I didn't find out until 10 days after because she was on call at the hospital and hadn't seen/signed off on them yet. It was TORTURE. But also worth the wait when we found out we were having a healthy baby boy. :-)
My partner and I were waiting for all screenings before announcing our pregnancy. We got good results with NIPT and went for the nuchal translucency yesterday. The visual results were good but then we found out there's another blood test to wait for. I'm 12w5d along and we're eager to tell people, but I was wondering if folks have any opinions on waiting for the results of the blood test. I'm 35-years-old... In case that influences opinions. Thanks!
@maple15 double check with your OB, but if you’re low risk on NIPT you’re fine. Most people start with NT and if there is a concern then do NIPT. So you shouldn’t need to wait for the labs on NT.
Thanks, @anniemarie887! I called the OB like you suggested, but they didn't call me back... So we'll either have to wait for her opinion on Monday or decide to just tell. The waiting is so hard!
@blueskychicago12 the lab called me yesterday for billing info -- and then quoted me double what I was initially quoted for no insurance/self payment option. So that was fun. She's going to run the lab anyways and push for an appeal on the cost because I was quoted much lower, and said they should be ready no later than a week.

Hey Everyone. I’m jumping back in to the board after being MIA for several weeks. The fear of another m/c was really getting to me.
Had my NT scan this morning (results were in normal range) and am waiting for my cfDNA blood draw. They said 1-2 weeks for results. Has anyone gotten results in less than a week? We’re not announcing until we get the results and it’s getting harder and harder to be fake drinking.
@McKBaby my OB said it would take 2 weeks. The next day the lab called and said it would be ready no later than a week. I'm right there with you, waiting to announce until we know the results. Hopefully you'll get yours within a week!

Finally got my blood work back!! Negative for 21, 18, 13. Praise the lord!! Now we have an appt with genetic counselor tomorrow and will go over the other options.
@anniemarie887 So we had the appt already and they are likely gonna go over these results, but they also suggested the CVS and amnio (which I’ll opt out of both) and maybe an echocardiogram which i will do because of our GD history and likelihood that i have it again. But I’m not making any decision until after our growth scan in 2 weeks. Then we can figure it all out.
@Spartanrd4 that’s correct. I don’t see why they would push for that either so we will see. I won’t do either. Whatever happens, happens.
@anniemarie887 I did a blood draw for the quad screen at my 16 week appointment on Wednesday. No news yet. My doctor said it was optional for me, but I figured, might as well.
@anniemarie887 I did the quad screen with my DD 6 years ago (right around this time actually, as she's also a December baby), but our genetic counselor told us at my appointment on Monday that the quad screen is outdated at this point, and OBs/MFM are replacing with the NIPT because of better accuracy. Not exactly helpful info, sorry!
@blueskychicago12 I did mine Weds, got it back today. Dr only went over neural tubes (which yay, low risk of >1/5000) but I was curious because a friend who also did it got screen on trisomies too.
@McKBaby interesting that your practice stopped doing it - I did NIPT back at 10 weeks, but that doesn't screen for anything w/neural tubes which I believe is why my practice still does it. I was reading MSAFP carries a decent % of false positive, which thankfully I'm not dealing with.
@anniemarie887 I think the NIPT is more accurate for trisomies, so if you've already had that maybe that's why they didnt report on it. My doctor said the main reason they use the quad screen is because a positive screen for neural tube defects at this point leads them to do the anatomy screen sooner. I also heard about the risk of false positives, so I'm trying to keep that in mind in case I get bad news.
@anniemarie887 update - I got my quad screen results today, and like you, I received a report regarding the risk of neural tube defects only, no mention of trisomies. Must be typical for those of us who have already done the cfDNA test.
Got my results back today. Everything looks good. We’re not finding out the sex, but she confirmed they only found 2 sex chromosomes. Now I have to just resist temptation to stay out of my online chart and peek at the sex.
After playing phone tag with the nurse, I finally got my results back this evening!! Everything looks great and this baby has two XX chromosomes. Our little tiebreaker is a Girl, y'all!

@anniemarie887@blueskychicago12 I actually saw that my OB checked a box labeled “has had NIPT, screen only for NT”...the other option (which she didn’t check) was to screen for the Trisomies and Downs. So apparently they don’t duplicate that screening.
While I have you two here, how long did it take you both to get results? I had the blood draw last Wednesday and am assuming the usual 2 weeks....
